  1. have fitted the fitech and holley sniper on v8 cars at work with great success. make good power and run much better.

but you have to ask yourself weather its worth the cost to you or not.

as you need fuel pump/lines and fittings/oxygen sensor fitted/wiring.

so ends up being more than you think.

if the car isnt used much a well tuned carb on a NA v8 is fine.

  2. machining the end down on the valves is normal when getting even valve heights.

but i would suspect 5mm longer would be too much. but depends on where the keepers sit.

i take it you also have adjustment on each rocker?

if you cant find something close you could put bigger guides and run a thicker stem valve but with the same 45mm valve.

also running different valves can lead into other issues like correct degree keepers and stuff or needing different retainers.

do you require stock valves for your engine? also what engine may help.

also kelfords in chch may have what you need also

  3. just something you might want to fix with your new sump.

the new sump doesn't have a notch for your dipstick so the stick wont go in.

a easy fix is some heat and bend a area in the sump for it to clear past

your old sump does if you check the photo.

    otherwise good progress

  4. Having owned a vehicle with the same issue.

the way i got rid of the smell was

used a wet vac and cleaned the carpets which was satisfying watching the crap get sucked in.

wiped all surfaces with wipes seats did same as leather seats

replaced the cabin filter and sprayed some odor stuff on the new filter.

and added a nice air freshener but nothing too strong as tends to give me headaches also

this worked but the smell would come back on a warm day with windows up.

so used a ali ozone machine which actually works well if you give it time.

and a year later the smell doesn't come back.

perhaps getting the current owner to send it to valet place to get done?

as when i did mine and a few other cars ive done you end up spending much more time than you think you would.

    Wednesday 19th August

    Save the date

    third Wednesday of every month

the, "i just happen to be driving an older but legal* motor vehicle and like burgers once a month or so, we happened to find a park up here, and it seems other  people with cars that just also happen to be older instead of newer coincidentally did too" meet?

Someone might feel like a burger at around 7:00pm

A chance to catch up with fellow people who happen to be driving a older car, talk with people you may or may not have met before and get your mouth filled with meat.

Or not meat if you're that way inclined.

Burgerfuel, Mexicali Fresh, Ajadz, Subway, D

theres a few car parks in the area and plenty of side roads,

See map for the location of burgerfuel. And there might be a convenient car park in the picture

First time you happened to be driving a old car and happened to park up here to get a burger?

people driving old cars might show up between 7:00pm and 8pm-ish.

  7. I would be very careful with where you get them from and the quality that they are. seen repro panels from the states that are rubbish. had same deal with my galaxie boot floor. also some of the repro stuff the body lines are not in the right place.

also not all of the classic industries stuff is good quality

can R3 fix or make you new quarters?

otherwise earls body shop in wellington makes panels.

Beforward generally has some quite rough cars, notice they hardly ever show the auction sheet? What condition is the car actually in? What grade is it? You dont know.

Try Autosupply.co.jp, kiwi guy in Japan. Ship with autohub and hassle free. You wont be able to scoure the auctions through them but tell him what you are after and he will email you what he finds meeting that criteria. Miss out the broker pay direcr, autohub is based in NZ and delivers to your door for about $1500+gst.

But unless you want something specific or unavailable in NZ it will work out about the same price to get something of a known quantity here. I.e. we looked at importing a CRV daily 3 years ago, got one $3000 cheaper via trademe

yeah i did notice some of the beforward cars were quite rough plus not much information on the listed cars either.

thanks man autohub seems to be the right shipper to use as ive heard around.

the specific vehicle i want there is plently to pick from local but not in the colour and spec i want.

Talk to the guys at stacked, they helped me get my z31. Found their side of service to be great, same for the shipping company auto hub. I came a bit unstuck with the compliance place I used but I eventually got it through

Also pretty sure theres an existing thread around that has some great content

    thanks

also thought the same thing but spent 10 mins looking and found nothing

  10. so in the last year or so ive been looking around to find somewhere to buy a car out of japan. As is on my car to do list.

had been keeping an eye on Ovalconnect.com for the particular car i want but now the website is down and has been for some time.

looking for a reputable site that others on here have used where i can view cars for sale in japan as looking to source the vehicle myself and have a broker do the payment and shipping side of things.

have been looking on these sites but not sure how trustworthy they are

     https://www.beforward.jp/

    https://www.tc-v.com/

    please and thanks guys

  12. My work uses HPC for bits they we get done

their coatings seem to last if looked after

also doesn't matter as such with headers but when they do the vibro polish thing the plastic ball things can get stuck in manifolds and other parts so best to have a good check or clean prior to fitting

also for motors require breaking in it is not recommended on freshly coated headers due to heat. but have run compressed air and fans on headers for break in purposes with good results

  13. i would check it has 12v while it is running.

also what is the condition of the plugs and leads.

some aftermarket hei dizzy's are too good rotor phasing isn't right and not reliable.

i personally would be fitting a pertronix kit if your old points distributor is in good condition

otherwise MSD or ICE ignition systems are good but spendy

  14. All v8s or modern turbo stuff in nz should be running 95 to 98 octane.

it is likely it will run shit with 91 octane in it. or ping or detonate which can cause damage to the engine and end up having to get it rebuilt.

also the american scale is not the same as nz's ron scale they use the mon scale

so their 93 is close to our 98 octane

also a fuel stabilizer additive isn't a bad idea if the vehicle does not get used or started very often as fuel can go off as little as 6 months.

have heard good results from the lucas stuff. not used myself though

Awesome man, I see VHT do an “early Chrysler” engine enamel, but I’ve only found it on trademe so far (and $25 a can) so will look into it

Motor looks good man, you Can’t complain when you get to work on stuff like that aye!

I think from memory the vht stuff isn't a exact match which is why we import and use the genuine stuff.

oh yeah for sure man keeps the excitement in the job
