  1. right sorry about the delay. standing in the fireplace in the middle of the lounge, looking south at the kitchen sink. the oven/cooktop will be at your feet here, in a bench dead ahead, ie a chicane coming out of the hallway straight standing in the 'hallway' looking south, can see the toilet in the bathroom. 'washhouse' on the left, just before bedroom door. plumber has put washer connections in the wrong wall likely due to communication issues, i cant afford to change it yet , so washer will be sideways for now. sideways sickness standing in the toilet looking north into the shower. note builder's artwork gift haha. on the right of the shower is a hallway cupboard standing in shower looking south at toilet and hand basin standing in the bed looking north. left to right: door onto deck, wardrobe, washhouse, cavity slider to hallway. it's blossom festival, love it

  2. and we're back. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr everything seems to be working properly, the steering is like heaven compared to how it was and the clutch is magic. Brendan tuned it on the road and its running about 12psi at the mo. its very different in the power delivery to how it was with the factory computer. after the wedding ill dyno tune it with a bit more pressure and see what happens.

  3. So the bumpers on the car have always been tatty, with the chrome strip broken in places and painted over with matty B. The rest of the paint on the bumpers was cracked and there was a few dents. The lower sections of the front quarters has also taken a hit, so off they came. Upper and lower valances were peppered with stone chips....... ^^ Surprisingly there was no rust hiding under here ^^ The bumpers have had work done on them before. Nothing major, just some glue and a slim of filler hiding under there. Now, theres a metal strip that runs over the top of both front a rear bumpers. I was as careful as I could be to get the clips to disengage, but the plastic was far to brittle and most crumbled and cracked between my finger tips. Karl BDA780 to the rescue again. He printed off some clips from a sample old clip I gave him. Perfect fit first time. I've still got to put the grill and park lights back in. I will have to give the rest of the car a decent cut and polish now. That can be next weekends job.

  8. This idea has been around since internal combustion engines have been around, it was the only alternative fuel to ever completely replace petrol during WW2, I am having a crack at making a system, I need to find an oldish car to fit it to, something with a 4 or 6 cylinder with a distributor and carb and a manual transition, the older the better. I have mostly finished the generator and cyclone filter, water trap/cooler, I have another big cylinder I am going to make a filter witch uses dry grass/ wood shavings for a partial filter This is how it would look fitted to a car I have to make a lot of air tight hatches for cleaning etc. the fitting on the right is the shaker, I can put a spanner on that and rock the ash grate.

  9. As some of you know Snoozin parted ways with El Cedrico on the weekend just gone. Full credit goes to him as this car wouldn't be the stunning car it is today without all his hard work and perfect eye for detail. The car Drove flawlessly down to Christchurch, fully loaded up with treasure there was some rear wheel arch vs tyre action as to be expected with a low car Gas stop in Sanson Waiting in line for the ferry (note the rear tyre that has jizzed on the wheel) And lastly I decided I should install the rev counter from the wrecked out hardtop today (excuse the crappy phone pic) Cheers Karl Discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?showtopic=31520

  11. Got the rear springs in quicker than expected so now she's closer to the ground and doesn't have the ass in the air anymore. Needs wheels now. Will start looking for some 14's. Originals are 13's.

  12. So basically my brother is going to help me maintain it and teach me a bit about these things. After getting the car home we discovered it actually had a fuel leak from the hose between the fuel pump and the carb hardline, so i replaced it with a new bit of hose. the starlet came on the original 12inch steel wheels but the tyres are no good, Shakotom had a set of 13x6 alloys that he had squirreled away for a future project; so he decided to give them to me. they need abit of a clean up but should be good. does anyone know what they are? they're stamped ryobi on the face and my grandad had them on his AE86 back in the early nineties. I just need to get some starlet sized tyres for them. maybe 155/70r13s?

  14. So .. I've been mega slack at putting up anything to do with my own cars... The current project that is in most pieces and getting serious work done is my rare 1977 Toyota Celica GTV LB (liftback) The story so far....... This was as purchased by my father many years ago. It was used as a service vehicle for my other 1977 Celica GT rally car. Dad always had issues with the engine timing and it never ran right. It was put in dry storage for many years until i decided i needed yet another project and brought it off him. First thing I did was found the engine was rather rooted and untuneable so over christmas i pulled the old 18RG and dropped an unknown spare we had purchased into the hole. Tidied it up while i was in there With a bit of messing about with carbs and tuning, it was running sweeter than ever. I have never liked tridents as mag wheels so swapped them out for a set of Bridgestone Zona -Spoke10 wheels i had around. I thought was a nice improvement. Also lowered it a little onto king superlow springs .. All was good for a year and a half until disaster struck On my way to visit sheepers one night, a van backed into the front of it and bending it Thankfully not a write-off and the it got fixed up reasonably straight. . . Looking at the condition of the car after the crash, being daily driven had taken its toll and it really needed some serious body work soon. Initially i was going to fix it bit by bit and try to keep it on the road, so the rear hatch and roof area had the worst rust and this was cut out a repaired.

  16. So, I got it running. Finally! Its been a hard slog, had a few headaches along the way (usual engine conversion stuff though really.) The exhaust headers have been a complete nightmare, mainly trying to make them fit with the column shifter linkages and I also struggled to find a starter that would clear everything but it least its all sorted now. Things are tight in places, that is for sure! Off to the exhaust shop tomorrow to get the open headers welded up to the existing twin exhaust mufflers. I also took the time to get heaps of stuff working properly that was not working at all before, like the horn, speedo, handbrake, lack of stereo etc. You know, the basic stuff haha Looking forward to a test drive to make sure everything is all ok! Will post a vid when that happens.

  18. caliper brackets- you can weld them but has to be tig and crack tested. its better to make them from 1 piece if you can. especially if the tig is going to struggle to get enough penetration a different design may be a better idea most welding on a vehicle can be done by anybody who can weld competently, and can be mig welded Some things are considered "critical" components ie brake caliper brackets, suspension arms, etc and have to be TIG welded and crack tested. you can do a chassis notch. best to talk to the certifier you plan on using about what their requirements would be

  19. You can't have it! Hemi its a Bunch of things but basically the motors are all OK. I think they are poorly earthed because of the new paint and badly aligned with the shitty foam runners are old and shit and have maximum friction. Think the problem is the speedo itself, I have a spare though, dash will come out to fix up the AC vents (needed some odd sized flexy tubing to plumb them up) and ill sort that shit.

  22. When you are in the topic the search bar on top right will search only within that topic to save you manually searching every page. With advanced search you should be able to search by posts rather than topics which would also find it though I havnt tried that on this forum

  24. Before replacing starter (if that's the problem) check all wires going to it first. I had an annoying problem when my little solenoid wire was loose.

  25. If you jump it and it starts fine, then yes the starter motor is okay. If you jump it and it just clicks, or wont crank over at all, or cranks over very very slowly then I'd be looking at the starter motor.

  26. So after trying to bleed the clutch it's just fizzing like fanta, so it's a no brainer, new clutch master and slave complete for under a hundy bucks, can't go wrong, so will fit these in next day or two.

  28. It'd be great if you could store woodgas, that'd make life much easier! Perhaps I should put some chemistry wizardry to the cause and give it a crack, unstable gases are usually best burnt pretty quick smart though I suppose. Or since this was done many many moons ago and we now have catalytic converters perhaps physics is the better tool to have a crack at it with. That'd at least get rid of the carbon monoxide which is probably one of the main problems, use up a little HC to convert to H2O (which is already present) and CO2 which is also present.

  33. Be sure to unpick the spotwelds, and replace the whole panel. Boffins like Clint will poke their boreOscope into the heater ducts, and see if they can see welds where the number has been cut out and rewelded.

  34. Small update, have acquired a few more parts like some nice Dyna coils. Cylinders have been bored and are ready to go, will probably sort the engine in a couple weeks once work quietens down. Have been playing with the frame a bit, cutting some stuff off like the centrestand mounts and sidepanel lugs (haven't got any panels anyway haha) Spent ages thinking how I wanted to do the tail unit, fab one out of steel or fibreglass, buy an off the shelf unit blah blah. Eventually I found a GS550 tail unit which had the shape I wanted, height and length are good, just need to section the middle a bit to thin it down It's not sitting as far back as I want here, just mocking up the lines Bit too wide but pretty close

  35. And last but not least, a couple of pics at Pukekohe with the 1.6 carb engine (which i had ported and polished, tweaked the boost, modified the carb, and was running 140hp @ the front treads)

  37. You should weld your container doors together, and then hinge them from the top so they pop open like a van boot with big gas struts. Would get them out of the way of your deck.
