  1. This was one of the biggest highlights of the Hanmer weekend for me. Such an awesome thing to do, made me feel honoured to be in the presence of such good people. Sweet bike for a GC with a sweet attitude. You QCR boys don't do things by halves.

  3. While I was in hospital some awesome mates decided to rebuild my bike for me. I had no idea at all that this was happening. This weekend at the Hanmer meet Jonny rode over on a sweet looking bike, I was very impressed. Before long I started to realise that the number plate and engine looked kind of familiar, sure enough it was my bike rebuilt. Looks and rides amazing, incredibly impressed. Thanks so much again to everyone that has helped out and contributed to the build, I really appreciate it and am stoked.

  7. Hasn't been much going on here lately, but holidays are coming up and I'd like to get as much done as possible. So next week I'll be pulling this lovely thing out of this even lovelier thing It's an eta m20b27, but not for long. Plan is to strip it for the block, crank, and rods. Add early m20b25 pistons, e21 m20b20 cam, and a 731 (preferred) or 885 head. Should give a nice, free revving motor with a CR of about 10:2:1. Will rejet the stock carb in the short run, but eventually this car will see triple carbs after a bit of saving. Yes, I just waffled, there has been no actual progress.

  9. Bring yarns and ideas for cruises/weekend activities like we had last weekend. I had a pretty choice time. We need to make that kind of thing more frequent :, esp coming into summer

  11. Hello. Bit of background first i guess is the place to start... Me (mtbtimr) and my mate (Sammy1222) (both 20 and relatively inexperienced mechanical engineering students) recently bought a 1972 Austin 1300 in bold but original magenta. The aim is to restore this little beauty to its former glory (classic), and learn some about cars etc along the way. Since this is a first for both of us we chose to start with something which was already drivable (WOF and reg). So here she is! Her name is Maggie. Couldn't resist taking it to uni day 2

  12. First 'job' was swapping out the grille. Grille on the car was MkII when we got it and was showing signs of rust, so we swapped it out for a MkIII refurbed grille which came with the car.

Burger Fuel has recently opened a new store in Porirua so lets get together and sample the goods. 15. Burgerfuel Palmy Meet at; The lower undercover park at the plaza at 7:00pm We'll check out some cars, and walk straight over the road for some takeaways about 7:30-8 - Just a note, feel free to invite other cars/people along, but you will be responsible for them! Please leave no rubbish and no skids/rowdy driving in the carpark - We've been given permission from the Plaza to use this, and we don't want to loose it. We have a rain free car park, and the barrier arms go up shortly after we arrive, meaning no parking fees. Grab a camera and a jacket, and we'll seeya there

  19. So Maggie kept over heating and spraying coolant out of her radiator (from underneath the cap), even after just a small drive. We eventually discovered that the expansion tank was full of gunk. The 'straw' was completely blocked and had snapped off so no coolant was getting in or out. We cleaned the reservoir and fashioned a new straw out of brass pipe we bought at the model shop.

  20. Another week, another patch. or two. A couple 5cm sections all fixed up. made this to close the end of the channel slots in here. welded grinered this was a pig to smooth out, the grinder wouldn't fit, so was done with the dremmel, a less than perfect finish, but no rust any more is the main thing! I needed another panel hammed to do some of the above work, I had a pointy one, a domed one, but I needed a flat pointy one, like a pick shape(very technically I know) took a wee trip down to the second hand tools shops in beautiful Henderson, I love rummaging around these tiny old shops that are packed to the roof with shit, Dude wanted $39 for the old hammed with a lose head, then I spotted this panel slapper file thing, which should be useful in the near future, He wanted 30 something for that, ended up getting both for $45, I'm sure he still made on the deal, gotta love the barter system! I cut a wedge of steel and hammered it into the top of the handle so the head is nice and tight good as new. I like old tools.

  25. Pretty special weekend right there. So good to get slaughtered with my os boes and boe-ettes again. And thoroughly enjoyed a huge salad banquet so late at night. (People are coming around to my way of thinking at last) Thanks to Karl for making the weekend such a lush reality. And huge ups to all who came. Also fucking massive thanks to Karl for letting me use his truck for recovery purposes. Returned the Val to dads around 2ish on sunday. We had the motor and trans out, and separated that afternoon. Nothing too fucked really. His excess is only $100. So it's far from the end of the world. But that's the end of me and vals on unsealed roads. (I rolled my one of those on gravel some years ago) I really got max enjoyment from otp yarns on the friday night. Pity I don't really remember much of what was said. And shgwag, the things that came out of your mouth will haunt me for months.................

  27. He could have just measured the line. My old combustion potato cannon maxed out about 120m also. We used google maps to approximate distance.

  28. 120m is a great effort!!!! Back when I was exciting I used to make black powder by the kilo... pre-911 and use it to do similar things but with a rocket motor strapped to a 1.8m long dowel. The problem was keeping it going ballistic instead of straight up! It wasn't rocket science but... oh it sorta was. Sure would love to see a vid of it in action! Certainly looks beautiful!

  33. Cheers to Karl and minions for looking after us with another excellent weekend. What I love about OS meats is putting faces to names and how lovely you all are. I don't think Shane will take the LTD into the Molesworth again...

  36. Dave beat me to it. I was going to mention the fact that his tank will hold no oil because the Kent will have dumped it all onto the ground. Would truly be a dry sump setup then....

  37. On the topic of new hubs. I've been playing around with some ideas. Depending on what caliper you want to run (I'm running princess 4 pots) there some good ideas on the Viva owners club forum, using some Volvo rotor on the standard hub. I also thought about getting some new hubs machined up to take a really common rotor and probably convert to a stud pattern which you can actually buy wheels for. Collaborative OS Viva owners project sort design and make a batch? Yoeddynz needs some brakes in the front of his one too...
