  1. Spent some time on the weekend with the help of @kempy with good results. Some of the stuff I remember: Changed one-way valves on injector pump, cleaned points, bled injectors, replaced injector, adjusted fuel regulator to 110psi pressure, cleared return line, adjusted overfuel lever, replaced 6 (yes 6) totally dead spark plugs, re-timed and marked ignition, swapped distributors, lost all the hair on my arms and temporary hearing whilst fireball from backfire on intake gave @Geophy and @Threeonthetree a good laugh (possibly due to me holding a can of engine start that was also on fire) and then started car. Next steps - sounds like slight miss on one cylinder but no cooling system plumbed in, so, reinstall radiator, tweak, and do skids / road test / fix all the other stuff I find broke. Finally making progress = win.

  2. Well sorry guys. I never did update this thread, Needless to say it all went swimmingly And I managed to get it all wired back up. I never got to see it start up, as I had to go on my bike trip, and they had to do a service on the motor, Bike trip was epic, way more epic than fixing a train. But fucked train paid for the trip so yey for fucked trains Apparently it started first try with no wiring faults. So pretty happy about that. Especially since I was a month under best estimate and 4 months ahead of what they expected. It's back in for a service (I got a permanent job out of the cab replacement, and doing a bit of servicing and fault finding to the coaches) So work for them full time now. Any way. Here's some pics Yeah so that's it, It's also taken out some other retard who jumped in front of it, but they went under the murder train so no real damage.

  3. There were a couple of mx5s at zebra so I grabbed the cv bolts and the diff input bolts so hopefully they are similar enough to work on the fc so its less sketchy. I also have sorted a load of wheel nuts so there will be more than three holding the wheels on. Its a bit early but does anyone have a set of r32 gtst wheels for cheap? I've seen a couple on those wheels and like the look if them. This one on tardme looks pretty sweet imo

  7. I wondered who these hipsters blocking up my hood with cameras were. Can lend the 91 Volvo 240 for the cause. Edit- working on photos, computer is doing a dumb - Blue Renault here currently, Morris is street furniture even now in NZ, Volvo very 90's (having grown up in that area in 92, all the cars in the background should be from the seventies. The newest car in the neighbourhood was an 89 Falcon. Just my 2c)

  9. So this is what happens when I’m on Trademe at midnight…. I accidentally the whole motorcycle. Yup, once again trademe is to blame for this. This had been on my watchlist since it was listed, with a low start reserve. When it came to the day it was closing, and the bidding was still really low, I couldn’t help but watch and see what happened. Sure enough, being midnight, no one was around to bid. One person had set an autobid, so once I exceeded that, it was mine. The photos showed a complete bike, and one that didn’t actually look bad. The seller had this to say I had a skid on this and got spooked, so it ended up sitting in the yard until the registration lapsed. It’s was running when I parked it up, but has been sitting so long now it’s probably only good for parts. So, so sad So yes, the rego is lapsed, and it hasn’t been on the road for 4 years. Apparently it last ran 2 years ago, but not since. It’s also been sitting outside this whole time, and it’s taken its toll. This is the photo that caught my eye It’s a pretty cool looking bike. So, what is it? It’s a 1993 Yamaha FZX250 Zeal. It’s a JDM only (except for a few late-model ones released new into the Aus market) high revving four-cylinder, four-stroke bike. It has about 40hp, 6 gears, and a slightly more upright, relaxed riding position. Despite what my better half says, it’s a fairly small bike but should suit me well. I finally had the bike transported from another suburb, to my house today. I couldn’t do it myself as my only car with a towbar was the S401 and that’s now gone. The transporter was very good, and kept me updated on when it was picked up And when it was delivered (since I was at work) I came home after work and after getting it into the garage, had a good poke around it. The first issue was immediately obvious; either the front, rear, or even both, brakes are seized and binding. This makes it a real dog to push around. I got there though Cosmetically, it’s not bad. Some paint fade, some scuffs and scratches, and a badly torn rear seat are the bulk of it. Theres also some surface corrosion, and general grot (and lots of spider webs and spiders) A quick check of the basics was in order. Oil? Check. Black and thick, but it has some. Front brake fluid? Check, it has some, but it’s gross. Rear brake fluid? Check. Also has some, but a spider tried to come at me bro when I went to take the cap off. I presume it’s also gross. Coolant? I saw something sloshing around in the bottle, so I guess so. Fuel? Once I freed up the lock on the cap, and pried that open, yes, its half full of the most rancid smelling petrol ever. Will turn it into a 50:50 new:old mix for the mower. Free fuel, and better than disposing of it. The Mustang will love it. The tank opening had some rust (and grot), as did the cap. It’ll clean up OK though. I can’t see much inside the tank, but the fuel wasnt obviously full of flakes of rust, and what I could see in there appeared to be nice clean metal. Hopefully it’s not all rusty. Unfortunately the front forks will need rebuilding too. One seal is completely buggered, the other is leaking, and the forks are really soft. Once I worked out how to get the seat off (key on the side. Turn it one way and the helmet holder slides open and closed, turn it the other and the rear seat pops up. One 8mm bolt to release the front seat) I opened it up and checked the wiring and battery. Battery is flatter than a flat thing. Will try reviving it with my charger, but it’s likely toast now. The clutch lever has a lot of play, and doesn’t seem to be disengaging the clutch. The lever looks like its been rotated forward too. The plan? Drain and replace ALL fluids. Recondition/replace front and rear braking system (hoses appear OK, no swelling or cracking) Free up clutch and gearing Rebuild forks Remove, strip and rebuild carbs Drain and inspect fuel tank Replace fuel filter Replace spark plugs I want to try to fire it up sooner rather than later, so I can check that the engine isn’t complete junk, so I wont be doing it in any real order. Brakes, fluids and fuel will be the priority. It should be a nice rewarding project. Eventually I’ll get it back on the road, legally, and enjoy winding that engine up to the 15,000rpm redline. First things first though, I need to tidy up Scooty and get that sold.

  10. Want your car to be famous on the big screen? I've been asked if we can provide half a dozen cars for a movie being filmed next Wednesday 3rd May in Petone for a movie called Blind Panic https://www.facebook.com/blindpanicthemovie/ The cars will only be stationary props and there are no other cars being driven on the day so there is little risk of them being hit by other cars. What they need is late 80's - early 90's cars (movie is set in 1992) preferably stock as possible or with somewhat period correct modifications. Even something like your daily '91 Subaru Legacy will be fine. (or similar Honda, Toyota etc etc) Preferably NOT red though because it messes with the camera??? Your car will be needed from 7.30am till 12.00pm in Petone but you do not need to be with the car if you don't want to stick around. They can even pick up and drop off your car from you if you are busy at work on the day. They are offering $20-$50 worth of petrol vouchers if your car is not just coming from around the corner. (low budget movie etc...) There is a potential if they identify bad weather that they will be filming on Tuesday instead but that will be decided by Monday If you are interested can you post up a pic of your car in this thread and if you will need for the car to be picked up and where from. I'll send through the pictures to the director tomorrow and hopefully she'll get back to me pretty pronto with what she wants. Cheers

  12. Post Nats update: Tightened front left wheel bearing, rolled guards a bit more, installed oil, de-greased some bits, changed polarity of windscreen washer so that it squirts instead of sucks. Will remember to take pics next time. Things to do: Fix brake shudder. Still driving it lots. Weekend jaunt on some closed roads (it said ROAD CLOSED AHEAD, not road closed....) around the Clevedon coast with some OSGCs.

  14. The 130 alloys are 14"x6" and with 205/60 tyres the rears rub on the inside of the outer guard, and are quite low geared compared to the factory 175/80 or 85 series tyres. I do like the look of them tho! So had a set of 14"x4.5" factory steelies blasted by @Mr Vapour and they turned out pretty good. as collected from Burger Fule meet, good ol Mr V rattle can primed to stop flashing i ran a strip disc over the tyre sealing area and then primered them And then top coated. I used the light grey that i did the floor and engine bay with with a bit more roof white in it (not quite enough grey left!) I didnt sand them at all, but it turned out ok and they have had way more attention than they deserve already. I have some 185R14C tyres that ive been saving for this since getting them from @kiwi808 when he moved down sarf that have a thin whitewall on them to install when the paint is dry, as well as trim rings and dog dishes. Presidentiale! Should mean i can drop the front a bit to even out the nose high stance and still steer, as presently the front is wound up as high as it goes.

  15. ok, been a few days, disconected all the wiring and what not then removed the desk from the cab and of all its wiring, today all the pipe work was removed, she is now an empty shell, ready for some one to win the tender to repair the fibreglass front, (best tender so far is £25k ) have prepped most of the new cab ready for the desk, most of the airlines are in, but need to lift the cab in the air to cut out 2 x 200mm holes on the underside for the air con stuff (as if they need air-con in scotland) had to mod the floor and shit, but she is coming along, still hoping to get the desk back in by friday, but we'll see, kind of waiting on other shit to happen first, no one seems to be in a hurry, i need some earth points welded to the new floor, but the fuckers don't even have some one who can weld ali on site, so it has to be sent out to an engineering firm !!! ffs, useless no floor=no desk= no work to do but i drew a picture of a penis behind the light switch for future generations to find so yeah, might grafitti a random kiwi somewhere as well

  16. Late last year I saw a certain rx7 advertised, wanted it, talked to friends and they said get it. I made a decision, slept on it, slept on it again. Had a week away to see reason and paid for it. It is joe/goats fc3s rx7. Here is his excellently written ad & some pictures I think I'm a sucker for punishment and I'm blaming the brain injury for making another project when everything else I own needs something doing on it a good idea. And I think I like cars that people hate? No space, no money (now) a trademe rtv rebuild rotary that hasn't run properly in years. What could possibly go wrong? After a few delays I made it down to Wellington, because brain injury I can't organise a piss up on a brewery. I arrived at Wellington airport and forgot my aunty & uncles address and while working out where to go and how to get there almost forgot about my bags. Caught a train and I'll be meeting Joe soon and we'll get some more parts and see what we can do. I have ordered new plugs and leads, made a diagnostic connector and got a new coolant temp sensor in the (misguided overly optimistic) hope it may help the flooding issues. No new pictures yet but I'll try remember to take some.

  18. Most likely seized slide pins. See if you can undo them. It's the two 12 or 14mm bolts top and bottom of the caliper. Be carefull, if they are completely seized you might snap them. Then it's time to find a second hand caliper.

  21. Made a bunch of progress the last two days. I'm using cam buckles and ratchet straps that I've shortened to hold things in. I'm using a cheap grommet kit so I can bolt the straps in. The kit actually works quite well, it's a little punch and a driver/anvil to set the grommet. Here is one holding my table. Got the interior in. This is the last panel to go up behind the driver's seat, these are the wires for the solar and lights. Roof to the factory head liner. Bed platform in. AC and DC plugs on the back of the bed. View under the bed, the box on the left is where the 26 gallons of water sits. Above that is the electronics. Side door View of the water pump up against the wall next to the tank. Held down with some shortened ratchet and cam buckle straps. Wish I had taken more pictures of this area but we were making progress. Switch and plug panel from the front I've got almost all of my wiring done and the inverter and solar charger mounted but I'll wait till I've tidied all the wires up to take pictures of that.

  24. Because Anton failed my last submission i've tinkered with the code: Labels, scale and grid, well kinda Bench test only, cos its dark out. Speaking last night with a knowledgeable carb tuner, my initial analysis is off, word is idles sound fine, but mains are lean and the air correctors could be opened up to prevent flooding at high revs, I have a lead for some jets to try and failing that there may be a set of jet drills near by too. I also brought a LM2917 IC, this has a fancy trick of turning frequency to a linear voltage, ie give it a signal from the points and it will output 0-5V for the arduino, i've put together a small circuit on veroboard, but just need to bench test it along with an isolation circuit (optocouplers) so i don't risk getting the points running via my laptop!

  25. I dont have anything in particular to say right now, except for that I've started working at HP Academy in Queenstown. I have learned a mind blowing amount of stuff from Andre and co already. Motec M150 is just some next level shit. Sheezus. With the M150 you can write your own code for the firmware, today we were trying idea of IMAP / EMAP as a load axis. (intake manifold pressure divided by exhaust manifold pressure pre turbo) Which is a bit of a mind bender to me but apparently this compensates for VE changes etc relating to altitude and turbine efficiency way better than just MAP or MGP. Next step is to take the GT86 for a hoon up a mountain and see how well the AFR stays on target. I'm not sure if it's obvious from this post yet but holy crapping Christ. What a company to work for. The other day Tony Quinn's Pikes peak car was in for a tune before heading off again. It runs a VR38DETT mid mounted, runs two turbos > two intercoolers > two plenums (connected with a balance pipe) Looking at the intercoolers with the thermal camera we found a 20 degree temp difference left to right. Some more poking around from there and we found that one of the intercooler hose clamps was loose, so intercooler on that side had lower mass flow so lower temp. TL;DR: This thing is a fucking weapon, Andre got another 100hp out of it just with tuning. Same boost. ~950kg and now ~605hp atw with plenty of head room. Just stopped there because he wasnt sure if it will still be drivable, going to Highlands for testing on Saturday.

  28. Been meaning to make a thread on this for a while. Story goes like this.. I have been wanting a R32 GTR for as long as I can remember, was always the dream car to have since my younger days when everyone had gtsts and gt4 skylines. I had been saving furiously for a few years trying to have a crack at the property market so had some money sitting idle, the pine for a gtr started to get stronger and stronger then one day I just went for it. I had not long turned 30 so thought of it as a present to myself. After a bit of a hunt this is what I ended up with. Originally wanted a black one or that dark grey they come out in but after seeing white in the flesh I was sold. Also had to be a 1994 model as I wanted the latest one you can get. 1994 Nissan Skyline GTR 82,000ks Tomei type A cams 264 Adjustable cam gears (no name brand and not dialled in yet) Aftermarket fuel pump Mines ECU Straight through exhaust with 1 rear muffler Apexi induction kit Lowering springs on bilstein shocks Cusco 2way LSD Stock turbos at stock boost (10-11psi) N1 side skirts, rear end caps and headlights. Tomei gear knob my lovely lady got me for Christmas as previous one was the only thing I hated about the car So far have only changed the wheels, still working out which route to go with the turbo chargers. I sold my Evo 5 so freed up some extra coins for this. Here's some pictures 18x9.5 BBS rep wheels with toyo t1r 265/35/r18 rubber Old school drag day. This was my quickest run. 13.109 @ 108.88 Goes hard for wot it iz

  29. After a bit of a yarn at the Oldschool Monthly Meet last night, it seems like a great idea to run another one of these. To give those of you who didn't attend the last one an idea of what is involved, here is the previous thread: We travel from Auckland down to Hamilton on the 30th of April, attend Midnight Upholstery's Open Day, visit the Hamilton classic car 'Classics Museum' and the associated swap meet that will be occuring on its grounds. The classics Museum Swap Meet is a $5 entry per person but children under 15 or those who look younger than 15 like chees- are free. There is a wide range of food available including the Diner themed restaurant at the Classics Museum itself, a BBQ at Midnight upholstery which is less than five minutes away or a wide range of Waikato culinary delights including Waikato Draught, pies and McDonalds. And some decent food too puhuhu. Since the drive from Auckland to Hamilton is probably the shittiest drive in the country IMO, we could always meet at the Drury BP and take one of several alternative routes to Hamilton including: - Turning off SH1 at Pukekohe, cutting across through Tuakau and heading south through Pukekawa on SH22. Then heading East back to SH1 through Glen Murray along Glen Murray road. This road and the area south of Tuakau are good driving roads with a lovely bush scenery and plenty of hills, corners and straights. This route would see us rejoin SH1 at Rangiriri. - Turning off SH1 at Pokeno, heading South through Pukekawa on SH22 but continuing even further South through Naike, crossing the border into the Waikato shortly after and then turning East onto Hetherington road and joining SH1 back at Huntly - Turn off SH1 at Rangiriri, Head South through Rotongaro, Glen Afton and Glen Massey, thenheading into Hgaruawahia and on to Hamilton. Or feel free to suggest another route. There are roads to the East of SH1 but they aren't as entertaining or enjoyable to drive through as the ones on the West as suggested above. But I am open to feedback as it's all about what you guys and girls want. 30. It's brake calliper overhaul time. I had the same problem. Freed the up by working the piston and slider a bit. Month or so down the track they seized up again. Pull the caliper to bits. Sand blast the housing and put new seals and dust boots in. Replace the pistons too if they are pitted. 2 front calipers on my crown cost about $110 with new pistons.

  31. So this thing was de-reg. I was riding this dirty, no reg/wof. and speed through fixed speed camera. At a whopping 54kph or something. The old owner got the ticket. Followed by a ticket for no WOF. Lol. Me being a good chap, I paid the speeding ticket. And started the process of getting it legal to try and get off the 'no wof' fine (of which was in the previous owners name). The kids at Retroscooter helped out with recompliance, writing to the Vintage Car Club to get Lighting Exemption forms sorted. Brake deceleration, wiring, adding front shocks, etc. Anyway. I've being riding it quite a bit. It's slow as a wet week. But it rules. More power at some point. Pic of it it with the headlight on at idle. (Hence lighting exemption)

  33. Another testing station WOF today, didn't charge me for a reinspection despite being 5 weeks after the initial check- has had a 2" exhaust fitted. @chris r spotted some headers on TM, but I'm a little sketchy about changing much as it sounds pretty lovely right now. On the hunt for some +50mmish rally adjusties so I can get/justify cert. I've made a habit of unplugging the ABS when a solenoid intermittently sticks, which in hindsight is probably the equivalent of driving around without insurance. Chris has sorted me non-ABS brake lines from a pick-a-part mission so it shouldn't be too much of an issue to finish the conversion.

  36. A little progress... Met with @dave a while back and bought 2 more 13x7 Cragar's from him. Thanks man. Gave them a good clean, the rims came up pretty good but the centres are pretty corroded. The centres were painted silver, who ever painted them sanded the chrome so they're pretty dull. Overall condition isn't to bad. Still on the lookout for a cleaner pair... Stoked I have a set now though! Did a quick test fit. I was a little worried they'd be too wide and poke out but turns out they're sweet. Still need to get the proper tyres I want to run but gives you an idea... Discuss here, Cheers!

  38. Its amazing how life gets in the way, last Saturday disappeared in being a taxi service for my eldest son for soccer out in Kelston, about 40 mins each way from home. I stopped into Pick a Part to see about another VX commodore master cylinder. Plenty of VT which were different and looked ugly as sin. I'll take a trip out out to Zebra tomorrow, their web site says they have 2. I did make some progress, new cans of paint and the rear axle is racing shiny black, no more 70's yellow. I forgot to take photos (as usual) while it was all on a couple of saw horses. New brake lines got made and a new HQ type flexible hose turned up from Australia. The mount on the body had the spot welds drilled out and will be moved. Car is back on the ground and suspension wound down (I love the threaded rod instead of springs at this stage). I'm pretty happy if I can get the final ride height here. A piece of 4x2 slides under everything with plenty of clearance. I also got a box from Summit racing today.

  39. Well, at last I have a large grey pontiac in my garage. Still a couple things to paint like the skirts and the detail on the 'waterfall' trim that goes over the hood and trunk. Grill has been rechromed and will do the front bumper too plus a few randoms like indicators and tail lights, rear bumper is still pretty good. Have a bit of a list of stuff to do, now at that stage where I have to decide if I just want to get back on the road asap or drag it out doing more stuff. I'd like to do as much Dynamat as I can afford, at the very least in the doors/rear quarters. I had a felt kit and new rubbers for the front quarter windows to go in but this didn't happen when it was apart as I 'd hoped it might. Might be the time to pull doors apart and do this, and rechrome the quarter window frames as they're a bit rusty. Hmmm. Anyway, here's a couple of random pics. Since I have such a list of things to do it seemed logical to put the venetians in for a test fit! Priorities... Not 100% sure on them, think they'll work when more chrome is back on car. Currently look like too much of a feature. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/53947-shifters-51-pontiac-chieftain-talky-stuff/

  40. We tidied the engine plumbing and it didn't start. Plugs were dry.... Turns I put the fuel lines on wrong. Fixed that and it ran again. We started to diagnose why it wouldn't turn off. In the process I swapped some plugs and we wasted two hours wondering why nothing worked. Checked the drive shaft and rear cvs 3 out of 4 bolts ain't bad. Drove it out and went to fill the gearbox and it was full I have to remember not to let off the starter too soon

  42. Long time no post. Popped a turbo at Toyota Fest earlier this year. No major damage to anything apart from one of the turbos. I always knew it would pop one sometime so no major stress, it was running about 10-11psi every time I drove it. I had a single turbo manifold lying around that I had purchased a few years back knowing I would need it one day. Max along with Simon and Robbie from SURFAB all took turns in doing the conversion for me. The manifold was a bit rugged so required a skim and some welding magic to make it acceptable. A gen 2 RB25 turbo was acquired and modified to fit the engine bay etc. A sweet downpipe was created. Plenty of little modifcations to the turbo, oil and water system etc were made and she was ready to go. Fired it up and had white smoke galore. Found out this turbo is ball bearing and needed an oil restrictor, installed that and it made things better. Have been boosting it around on 10psi and it feels like a completely different car. Feels more responsive, more torquey and pulls much nicer through all the gears. Very happy. Tested Air Fuel and it was running healthy with the factory fuel system, not leaning out. Only problem is the white smoke issue has not completely gone away, after lots of reading and discussions the consensus is the turbo is poked, most likely a rear oil seal. Oil is seeping into the exhaust and burning on the hot exhaust creating the white smoke. Next... Turbo is now on its way to Steve Murch for a Holset recore. He can use the modified housing etc I have, replace the core. Deletes the water system and sends it back. The factory turbo is ceramic wheel so I was always limited with boost and the very real possibility of it letting go and taking a quick trip through my engine. New turbo should be no smoke, more reliable, allow more boost and just generally be more awesome. Should get it back in about 2 weeks. Also had a noisy diff, ended up yoloing it and getting a new TRD 2 way centre put in. gomaxgo did a full rebuild on it for me and set it all up properly. Cant believe how awesome it bites compared to the rinsed out factory LSD. Thats about it for now, will put up some more pics etc when the turbo is back on again. Here are some photos of various changes: Completed Engine Bay Turbo before shipping to Steve Murch Down pipe etc. LSD love Recent Shot from OS Hamner Meet with a cheeky Bubblegoose in the window
