  2. Driving home from work, passing a car, 8500rpm's, and then all the loud's in the world. Exhaust snapped off at the collector, lols. Luckily the O2 sensor held the end of the exhaust up, so I drove it home. So loud. So lols. http://vid723.photobucket.com/albums/ww239/NZDMAE86/VID_20150310_171324534_zpszbuy55jq.mp4 I'll add that to the list of things to do. Regards, VG.

  4. Finally a trial fit for the left hand side, every single panel has been replaced and it feels like I've spent many nights cutting profiles. I pre-drilled every single hole on the new panels to match the existing chassis holes so I wanted to see it it all came together, couple of slight adjustments (0.5-1mm) here and there but in all it seemed to come out OK. A bit more shininess with a splash of etch primer.

  5. Pulled off all the junk off the back and put the front back on, so we can start to C-notch the rear end. Took out the diff to see how low it can go and to get some measurements. Can still go a little lower in the rear. Needs about a 7 inch C-notch. 5 inch will be sticking through the deck, which is a bit annoying. Time to make up some cad drawings so it can get laser cut at work.

  8. Just been to Nats - 1900Km, 270 litres of gas and 2.5 litres of oil after leaving home I'm back and the beast performed like an absolute world class champ. A picture from Markku - Cheers Absolutely wasted the Wagoneers plaque on a speed hump in Remuera and it's now pretty bent up but still holding together so on it shall stay. (felt like the whole weight of the rear slammed down on it HARD as it was momentarily standing vertical on the top of the speedbump)

  9. Went to nat's track day, my first time on Hampton downs, and it was friggen sweet, had so much fun. Will need more hard cone brake pads if I ever go back there, the EBC greens were shitting their pants big time, but apart from that, things went well. Had a shit ton of fun hooning round in it at nat's, its not much of a tourer, but it sure made up for being hard/loud/smelly and generally uncomfortable in the winding Coro roads. I'm daily-in it until I get a WOF on turdsmell, and while driving to work this morning, I got a puncture, IN MY OIL FILTER!? I started it up after work to go home, luckily I was looking at the oil pressure gauge, noticed it basically had no pressure at all, and shut it down. Opened the bonnet to find oil E V E R Y W H E R E ! ! ! I quickly found a small hole in the filter, which pointed forward spraying oil out the front bumper, which was then blown back into the engine bay/under the car/alllllll over the show. So lucky I noticed the no PSI's, or I could have had an unhappy engine on my hands. It had lost 3 of its 4 liters, but the engine still sounds OK at least, hopefully no real damage has been done. Such a little hole, made such a huge mess, lewls. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/25550-vintage-grumbles-ae86/page-21

  11. It's where people (mostly wealthy men) gather in either Camaros or various old car with V8 engines, most of them not a 253 and they do things i have not figured out yet, it sometimes takes them 3 days. Some of it involves driving the very crowded streets in cars with loud engines. Can make for some good spectating, but i get bored after an hour or so. Anyone going? (don't know if i should go)

  12. My biggest concern with that picture is that you're missing the tapered inserts for the holes so chances are that your lug nuts will not seat properly.

  28. Work has continued. Rear filler panel is all made and mounted now just need to figure out a way to move the fuel flap latch. also the main part of the bumper has been mounted to car. We need to mount this so we can start sculpting the sides of the bumper. Also have made the decision to move the number plate to the back bumper. Any ways a few pics.

  31. Cert guy says my frame wont need crack tested. Just mocked it up. Needs some work. The rear engine mount seems to be about 3 inches further back than I'd like so will chop that centre post out and move it forward Dunno if rake is a little too much?

  32. Fresh cut top panel for the right hand side, I deliberately put a 50mm overlap on the new panels in case the seams ever leaked. ( bottom panel, bottom edge) Front panel back on now, this was a bit of a challenge as the caravan had to be exactly square for it to fit, it came right with the aid of a jack, some timber and adjusting the temporary bracing inside Apart from some tidy up work and the door area the right hand side is finished ready for painting prep.

  33. Wee bit more progress this week. Moved the caravan to under the shade of a tree as the heat was getting a bit much. Bottom panels for the right hand side ready to go They're a bit of a nightmare putting them on by yourself as they want to curl over and spring out, I also wanted to avoid buckles and ripples , so a couple of wood offcuts and some clamps came to the rescue

  34. The chassis mounts for the upper bars are made from some square tubing I had that happened to be the correct size. I've seen this done on the net, and it makes it easy to fabricate and plenty strong. Somewhere about here should work... After the slight setback noted above, where I realised that the housing on the 9" is not centered between the wheels, I got it all together on both sides. Plenty of jacking up and down followed to check clearances, and it all looked good to me. After getting back from camping in late Jan I finally got the 1" all thread and half nuts (those nuts are expensive - $15 each. If I'd known that I would have bought regular nuts and cut them down in the lathe) so it was time to make the bars adjustable. This involved grinding off the tacks and welding the end to a short length of all-thread. Then the link is shorted up and an inspection hole drilled 1.5 diameters down the tubing. I did have to do one of these a couple of times after failed the 'measure twice cut once' test, mainly because the pinion angle was way out on my fixed length bars. One hunky adjustable triangulated 4-bar top link. Since it is for the rear suspension it can be mig welded (by me) and doesn't require crack testing. Hopefully the certifier is happy. With all the links in place I adjusted them to centre the housing in the car and square it up - just done with a tape measure to reference points on the chassis. I had the wheel alignment done yesterday, and the computer said the rear thrust angle was 0.00 degrees - i.e. the housing is exactly square in the car, so I was pretty happy with that. Hopefully the cert man (Andy Smith) is happy with the design and execution.

  36. i lowered it some too. I got the suspension setup changed a fair bit. shorter and stiffer springs, revalved and shortened. figured it wasnt low enough, so Kelvin cut my front strut towers to let the top arms pass through. changed the front wheels to Impul pro mesh. 15x8.5 -8. And bought a set of ssr formula mesh. 15x7.5 and 15x8, unsure of offsets sadly. Uhh, found some OG Recaro SPG. What else? uhh, bought a big Whiteline rear swaybar just to find out that the car is too low to run it.

  37. I have one word. Earths. Have the gauges been out? The copper strips oxidise and never go back in just the right place. Give them scuff with some 320 grip sand paper then wipe down with thiners or petrol and reconnect. A film of grease on the newly cleaned contacts will keep them from oxidising again.

  38. Bad ground connection to engine / senders if they are grounded sensors. If above ground check that where youve grounded them to is sufficient oe resistance from that ground to battery neg is below 1ohm

  40. Poo spot number three now reserved. Be quick - soon we shall embark on building hopefully the ultimate composting toilet and shower block. We have to do this because longdrops fill up eventually and I dont want to have to empty the hole of Daves pie ridden poo. Plus the longdrop currently keeps us on the right side of the law with them pesky meddling kids at the council however we want to have a setup that will suit more people. Need to allow for future OS meets ! So composting will be the way to go. Adding some photos for thread. I forgot a photo of the most awful bit of tat... And also we caught these little critters who were hiding under the wood pile. Four little baby mice. So cute. I kept them for one day and even though they are pests I couldnt kill them. I ended up releasing them over the other side of the creek. I did tell them not to come back, to behave and not cause any mischief. Hopefully they understood.

  41. Right. The chrome (top) ring failed, but the locating pin was still there. Builder said he'd done the usual exhaust port radius, about 0.2 - 0.3mm. At his workshop, I showed him an original bore jetski motor with ~0.7 - 0.8mm chamfer at 45 degrees. Then I sent him an excerpt from Gordon Jennings excellent "Two stroke tuners handbook" Yeah, 0.4mm minimum recommended, and 2mm high on the 10 degree chamfer, which is a large change in port timing. No wonder it was down on power. I happened to have a appropriate sized piston in my stash, which measured up OK (not barrel shaped), was crack tested and fitted. He's re-shaped the ports, rebuilt it, and apart from a minor issue of a top mount / water feed cracking (replaced), it's running again. It's much crisper, and pulls through 60mph much better. Best yet, he's standing by his work, and not charging for this work. Kudos. It's been a blast tootling around in it, and true to 2T form, my hands have been grimy 4 times in the first day having it back.

  42. So a few photo's... Disappeared to the south island for the championship rounds doing V8 things... Missed getting this ready for Leadfoot, which was a tad disappointing. But was pretty busy getting the race car ready for the journey south. Anyway Door's sitting in primer. Ready to be painted. Finished the sill, primed and flattened to merge where the silly trim strip sat down the passengers side.

  43. Wow only just noticed this thread was back from the dead. The only additions to my collection so far this year have been three pairs of box speakers - first off, a pair of cult classic TS-X11s in somewhat ratty condition. These are a full alloy chassis, and heavy to boot - each box weighs a good 5kg - and are renowned for their superior sound quality over most other plastic chassis box speakers of the same era. You only have to look on Yahoo to see the eye-watering prices these commandeer. I would like to refurbish the exterior at some point - the raised Pioneer logo is badly faded on one woofer. They're now fitted to the Skyline sedan as part of the period audio build that I'm three quarters of the way through completing. Not long after some TS-X7s in great exterior condition but with busted woofers popped up, which I bought and sent to Axent Audio for reconditioning. These have now found a home in the Skyline coupe, replacing the TS-X101s that were in there. And these gargantuan TS-X35 HFWs (Honeycomb Flat Woofers) that likewise have blown speaker cones, which I'll probably cannibalize for parts. Note to self - never trust anyone who advertises box speakers as "mint condition" because 99% of the time they won't be! Sorry, haven't been able to expand my collection of headunits for some time, so don't really have anything to sell right now. I keep getting outbid by the same people on trademe The TS-X66 IIs are from the same "HFW" series as my TS-X35s above, so around 1987-88. They would pair up well with a KEX or CDX "Centrate" unit such as this one: Send them to Axent Audio in New Lynn, the guys there work wonders with older stereo junk.
