  1. I had been holding off on an update until after the shed raid, I didn't want to give away too much before the team came round and had a look. The engine is in and mounts welded up, still some finishing to do on the drivers side once the engine comes out again. The gearbox cross member is in place. HQ holden narrowed by 300mm. Again some final welding to finish off when the engine is out. Brake booster brackets made, final hole in the firewall to finish off. We didn't do it the other night because my kids had gone to bed and the die grinder was going to make too much noise. I have been stuffing around with the diff angle and finding how much change there is in angle in normal suspension movement. I have decided to have the diff 2 degrees nose down, same as the Firebird. I have traction bars that mount under the spring pad at one end and below and forward of the front spring eye on the chassis. At expected ride height they are almost parallel with ground and the diff angle stays constant. The main thing I want is no axle tramp and I think these will do the trick.Traction is always going to be an issue with 215 tires. Still plenty to do but getting rapidly closer to all cuts cut, shuts shut and then off for final rust work and paint. Photos to come.

  6. Multi pass? Edit yay a new page So work was quite today, and had arranged to have this car at work for the weekend so i could do oil pump swap and try figure out what the fuck was going on. Anyway as said, work was quite, so got it on the hoist, dropped steering bits and got the sump off and oil pump out. After alot of diagnosing between us, we compared the old pressure relief valve spring to the new one. new one was deff longer and had more tension. Concluded that this was most likely the issue and that the relief spring had lost tension over time. Magic So the sump is back on now with a new gasket, just letting that seal up over the evening and will be back here tomorrow morning with new oil and see what the deal is. tho, was thinking while its on the hoist, it might be a bit rude NOT to remove a quarter of a coil off the front springs. So that might happen haha. I'm a little bit gutted my sedan isn't ready to drive yet, as Tomorrow would have been the perfect day for building the exhaust. oh Well

  8. Took advantage of good weather to get couple of coats on after work. Think I'm learning. A thin first coat to get good coverage, then a thicker mix (less reducer) laid on a couple of hrs later for a smooth coat. Noticed surface was a bit rough from blasting medium so a very light sand before second spray and it looks pretty good... Going to whiskey festival tomorrow so weekend probably rooted regards assembly... And just received bill for engine work. Inspected, disassembled, block chemically cleaned & bored, conrods honed, journals ground/polished, and assembled with new pistons, rings, main and big end bearings. $1600 all up. Not too bad I reckon...

  13. Shes an absolute hunny that truck, actually one of the most reliabe cars i have owned, although i mostly own British cars. Hope its what you wanted/expected/as described, shes been looking a bit sad without any use If you are wondering why theres so many rivets in the roof, theres a photo in with the manuals of how Mark used to have it, in its two tone, chromed up, roof boxed glory

  14. Top link mounts made and tacked in place. Next on the list is a brace/mount off the link mount, back to the chassis rail. will bolt it through the chassis with a few decent bolts. maybe something similar on the other side also, as the factory x member bolt locations are kinda limited, since the lower links take up the space needed to build something solid off them

  17. Oh - and nearly forgot to mention - we got building consent for the new shed, so I'll have a bit of extra space for the projects without cluttering the garage and tracking dirt through the house. I'll be done piece-meal as we can afford it, but I just want to the get the concrete pad down before winter...progress so far: Sand pad getting cut out...basically a double garage plus a single garage going the other way (kinda an "L" shape) and then Lisa's art room and a bathroom behind. Sandpad cut and roughly levelled...profiles put up and strings run...just waiting on some sunny weekend weather to box it up for the slab. It will be a ribraft slab - hence the pad is level and string heights quite high. In the meantime I bought a new tool for the shed - and had to store it over at Dad's place for now. 20T press. Its pretty good and has the added bonus of being local so pick-up was easy, and also having the connection for the air hose so I don't have to manually operate the jack. It works really well, and I used it put the front wheel bearings in....more about that later.

  18. Overall they look pretty good - but the tube pliers I bought leave a few marks in the pipe which is annoying. But the lines fit ok. The real test will come when I put it back together I suppose. New versus old (new pipe on the left before I bent it up). And new line shown on top versus old underneath. Brake MC back together and looks like it will bolt up fine.

  20. How the hell did I miss this being fully painted!? You work quick and it looks great! Are those lenses Mexicali repro spec or legit USDM? I have been considering some Mexicali ones myself.

  21. Sorry @tortron completely missed this! I'm rather enamoured with the old girl, was just having a durry/lurking in it earlier. I have so missed having a british car! Looked pretty ott with its pinstripey mini-mack stz, quite like its battle-worn, sun-matted appearance and am trying to keep the repainting to a minimum, just the cab scuttle/screen surround/roof and the underside. It's quite funny reading the notes about painting the underside back in the 90s etc "Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" The karrier also came with stacks of spares so now have a reasonably ridiculous stash, good window rubbers & interior trim etc too which will be handy. Have been talking to a dude down in new plymouth who has a 202/trimatic one, he has a rebuilt crashbox & a couple of dizzys, regulators etc going spare (and handily available at the gentleman's price of a box) so i'll get myself down there at some juncture. Pretty keen on wof-ing the commer and hacking about in it, been a bit busy/lazy to take it down but i'll get there. Karrier is sweet but can wait for a rainy year haha. If you're ever down this way feel free to drop by for some quality commersation

  23. Yeah it and the speedo have been sorted and work as they should (apart from being 25% out) I have a digital multimeter and an old bulb test lamp Ign power is getting to the unit, and there's power going to ground There's power from the speedo, but approx 0.2v coming out at the speed sensor side of the corrector. The voltage does not change with wheel speed

  24. I assume your sensor is good? Checked it for power etc? Have you got a led test light to play with

  28. Funnily enough I have been wasting a lot of time around diff angles, drive shafts and the like.A couple of thoughts, your old lowered springs will probably insert the drive shaft further into your gearbox as long as the input of the diff is below the output of the gearbox. Severely lowered vehicles, think 30s chassis car with a Z in the chassis go the other way. The other thing is the diff angle will change as the suspension goes through its travel. My suggestion would be to refit the old springs, go for a drive and confirm that the vibration is still gone, check the distance the drive shaft is in the gear box and the diff angle. Put your new springs in with the lowering blocks, if you are going to use them, then make the diff angle the same. Because you have used the lowering blocks the drive shaft should be OK but check that it is in far enough. Most decent 4 wheel drive places should have the shims to change the diff angle. When I lowered my Silverado the kit came with 3 degree shims and putting them in made a world of difference to the vibration.

  31. Got a bit more done, not quite as much as I hoped as the weekend was a total fail but I am getting there All the fab is done Front welded back together So the motor can go back in now, however there is one small snag, because I can't leave things along there was something else that has been bothering me, basically the muffler hangs too low and it would be good to quieten it down a bit so a few months ago I bought these Now the exhaust is a bit of a basted to get in as it is all one piece so I chopped it and added some v-bands, this way the headers won't have to come out again Not sure if I will get the whole exhaust made this week as there are a few bits to figure out so it may end up with the old one back in for a bit longer yet, will just have to see how the week goes....

  33. Cleaned up a better heater bubble I had cut off a wreck a few years ago. Plug welded this in, rattle canned it, seam sealed it and canned everything one more time. 100x better. Every new panel was painted inside and out, sprayed with this 2k epoxy everywhere and seam sealed where nessecary. Its so much more solid and the cunty repairs are now finished. Long story short, it failed a warrant and I changed chicken mesh into metal to gain road legal status. Stoked. Most of the garbage I replaced.

  34. Front sill section. I also made another piece behind this one after it was welded in. Floor pieces all welded in. This was made up in 4 sections. It made sense to replace everything at the time. I also made up a new seat rail since the old one was a tad rusty and splitting around the nuts on the underside.

  36. Been a while since I've posted anything up on my Trumpy but have been having heaps of fun with it. The OD gearbox has made a world of difference to how it goes on the open road so that was definitely a worthwhile excercise. Since I got it back on the road last June it's done about 4500 miles with no real faults to speak of. Been mostly just around Nelson and Mot but have been up the lake half a dozen times and once down to Westport which was a blast... I am really stoked at how it handles now compared to before the big upgrade but have been pining for a bit more grunt. For a little while now I've been collecting bits for a new donk and am just about ready to pull the trigger and get it built. Plan is a 2.5 bored out a bit, up the compression, EFI, cam, headers etc... Ive got most of the stuff together for the EFI setup and have been modding a set of PI manifolds to suit. As soon as this is done I'll get the engine itself underway....

  37. I just had my 2 piece drive shaft rebuilt and balanced. The rear shaft had a little side to side slop on the yoke. At low speed it would stay centered but as the rim got up it would slip hard one way and get stuck there from the g force. Balancer man showed me on the balancer. Interesting to see. Shows why my vibration got worse with speed and was not there below about 60k.

  40. Lol, so oil pump has turned up, bought via rock autos. look at box, oh yeah, some sort of brand. Open box, well well, what have we got here, genuine Aisin oil pump with the Toyota symbol ground off haha. Score in my books. Now I just hope it fits, as its for a cressida and all Anyway, not sure when thats going to make it into the car. busy this weekend, possibly busy the weekend after. and somewhere is nats and then I'm away the weekend after nats also. Such a busy time. Plus I need to get other crown on a hoist to do exhaust, So, kinda stuck in between both, as they both need to get on a hoist really. Not keen for removing sumps on the ground haha. Anyway heres some pictures of the turd. Seedy Al

  45. Despite a self-imposed ban on tutu-ing due to hectic schedule: New battery, fuel filter & fresh gas (reading through the history, the truck seems to have about 5 fuel blockages to the points failure, really needs a screen or sediment bowl that isn't in the fuel pump, of course its all hardline) replaced carby inlet seal washer, painted scuttle and inside of cab. Have been using it a bit to blow the cobwebs out, not going to win any races but runs really well. Slowly getting the hang of crashbox, in fact only time i seem to miss gears is in traffic when it actually matters To do: continue paintin' cab, underside etc Grease everything (the lube chart is like a star map) Check steering box oil New tyres & exhaust Figure out why wipers & roof lights not working (suspect bad earth?) both rear axles leak a bit, doesnt seem too bad i.e not all over the tyres so down the list with it There is a massive stash of s15 commer (different sheetmetal on the front and ohv motor) parts near htown on t.m, i'm a bit torn as to whether to get it or not as the dude wants it all gone as one lot, realistically i'd have to "take the best and scrap the rest" in total there is "2 side valve motors 3 ohv motors ,5 gear boxs 3 chassis 3 front axles 3 diffs radiators 1 cab with 2 doors 10 rims 8 tyres and more". Probably enough parts to keep the thing going another couple of centuries, but i'll be sleeping in the spare cab if I drag 3 old chassis home! Also am fickle with vehicles so a lot of effort to shift everything if I sell/garden ornamentise the Q. Also used it as mobile connect 4/stereo transporter for my wedding on sunday, was a great hit. (and then used it to drag a portaloo back to hirepool and dispose of 1,000,000 bottles)
