  1. Oops…….. Rigamortice and I had a few medicinal bourbons in the man cave last night and accidently bought these. Some say… the sound of 3 dual choke DCOE Weber’s is better than sex……….. (Gawd, the Trademe addiction strike again; here’s hoping Mrs sr2 isn’t following this thread or looking too closely at the bank statements!).

  3. passengers side is getting pretty close now. there was a bit of mismatch between the panels so i had to put a bit of filler in to get the panels flush. wasn't much but it will make it look millions better. got a few things to do this week so it'll probably be the weekend before i can paint it all. then its onto the front and rear scuttle and starting to think about putting some colour into the shuts and engine bay. peter is going to do the roof week after next so its getting pretty close now. 2015-09-29_08-06-30 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-09-29_08-05-42 by sheepers, on Flickr

Paint turned out really good in the end Subframes back in - still need to tidy up the arms and steering rack with a fresh lick of paint. Forklifts come in handy.. 8. Read the link? "Refer the vehicle to a VIN issuing agent (VTNZ, VINZ, NZAA). They will inspect the vehicle and seek approval from NZTA to issue or re-issue a VIN plate." Basically as above, take it all to a repair certifier, both vehicle identities, all the paperwork to prove you own both and go from there. Good luck. As for R100's phone calls, the repair certifier probably figured you were being a dick.

  9. It's not rocket science man and it's not at all conflicting But just to answer your questions - even though I'm not sure if you are trolling or genuinely a bit confused. Yes swapping vehicle identities is 100% illegal. Why? It's illegal because you don't want the bro down the road to pinch your Subaru with a good motor and take it home, then switch the identity of his Subaru with a fucked motor onto your old Subaru. Because then he could legally own your car by the fact it has a VIN number that matches his ownership papers. I was on a jury for a court case where a guy bought bank cheques worth $5 and managed to erase the pen on the cheques and write his own amount in there to buy the cars. He then transferred the cars into his name and the cheques bounced some time later. The insurance company would not pay out because he had legally bought the car - even though he had bought it with illegal cheques. It's not the same situation but it proves that a technicality like that is a fuck up. Not allowing jokers to switch identity plates willy nilly is a loophole closer. For the hard proof... https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt.nz/virms/in-service-wof-and-cof/general/vehicle-identification/vin-and-chassis-number edit - beaten by Clint while I fucked around writing my post and eating dinner.

  15. Hi All, Have been a member of the forums for a while but haven't contributed a lot. Went along to the monthly meet in Ellerslie last week for the first time and met the Escort brigade in the pub. Someone suggested I should post to introduce myself and my car so here goes. I bought a 1064 Mk1 Cortina GT in 2011 which looked like this at the time. Turned out the engine needed a bit of work so I decided to go for a YB engine. It has taken a lot longer than I had hoped but the car is now not far from being complete. Fingers crossed it may be on the road by the October monthly meet. Will post some more pics when I work out how to resize them... Cheers Nick Discussion- //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/50272-sods-64-cortina-cosworth/

  16. Righyo long time no post. Ended up swapping the vk wagon for this 1988 vl. Had it for about 3 weeks now and loving it even more than the last commy. It's the RB30e manual but it's running a little ruff as it's coughing at low revs then picks up and runs normal after around 1.5k revs. Its had a respray at some point but it's pretty ruff in places. Plans just to clean it up abit and make it run mint before slapping a turbo on it. I've brought some 15" steerlies that I gotta get tyres for and then obviously sack it lower

  19. Oh dear. It was going to be such an awesome car and then some Aussie fella sneaked in and put big rims on it while you were sleeping ? But its all OK because Im sure us Kiwis will be able to group together and locate you some proper sized rims (13~14"), possibly chrome with 10 holes around the outside. Then everything will be back in order and heading in the RIGHT DIRECTION.

  22. I like this story. Got a torana before the yellow ute. Before I collected the car I ran the plates through carjam Ran plates and got the chassis code. Ran chassis code through ausie converter and asked a few boffins. Listed chassis code was for a povo spec 4 door and not for a two door gtr "replica" Told seller and he basically said WHO CARES THE INNER GUARDS THAT CONTAINED THE CHASSIS NUMBER HAVE BEEN CUT OUT TO FIT EXTRACTORS. turns out it's agenuine gtr that had been tagged from something else. Was a stonking great deal as long as you can get your conscience round the fact it might have been stolen at some stage. I couldn't!

  24. The shell has had the underside blasted - only a couple of minor repairs!!! I bought a set of FR17 x 7 Simmons so all the other rims have been sold. I'm going 9" wide on the rears therefore I now am going Hilux LSD rear end and FC RX7 brakes all round. Spiraling out of control nicely

  27. Cheers everyone! Did a skid already, was a one wheel peel Spent a good few hours in the shed last night tidying up the interior, and fitting my usual customary bits and pieces. Realized as I was installing them that the Infinity front speakers have been in a total of four different MR2s now, hahaha. Chucked a tape into the factory headunit for a laugh and to my surprise it actually played instead of chewing it up... now I feel like I should keep it instead of fitting my nice modern Bluetooth stereo.

  32. Cheers for everyone's suggestions and advice ! I was in my engine bay of the van during a Photoshoot for some workshop apparel and I had a 1/2" socket just checking bolts while my mate snapped photos and I put the socket onto the positive cable that goes onto the starter solenoid and it was loose so tightened it up. The shoot went late and forgot to test the van to see if it fixed then RWB & Jamie rolled around to have a look at for me and I put key in and it started on first turn hahahaha . So will give everything a once over with the spanners and should be ok . Cheers guys

  35. So it seems kurts attempt at coupe lyfe has failed as this thing has fallen into my hands and I'm going attempt to finish Kurts attempt. He sold it to me with pretty much all the hard stuff done which is verrry nice! It arrived to my house on thursday night looking like this straight off the truck, highly recommend Brent at Classic towing, he is a dream to deal with and at a very good price too! much better than any other company i have had to deal with before. on friday evening i ripped into things, put the last coilovers in the car, and ofcousre slammed it. need shorter springs for the rear coils as it sits wayyy too high and i still have a bit of body adjustmet to play with. also had to put the skirts on to see what it would look like..... it looked good. pulled all the seats out as they were all dirty and grabbed some turtle wax upholstery cleaner. Worked way better than expected got all the greese and rust stains out of the seats, still need to finish cleaning up around the headrests. Before: After: Next on the list -put the side skirts on properly -check all the bolts underneath are tight -install driveshaft -instal/mod gearbox x member -mount enginebay stz -rebuild brakes -acquire and install raditior -wire up engine -exhaust -and a shitload of other small jobs.. should easily be done come summertime hopefully...

  37. Since the car's been apart for friggen ages, and had a few big expenses that delayed buying a clutch for quite a while. I decided that it would be an awesome idea to rip the wiring loom out and tidy it up, as well as add a few extra bits. So first things first, holy moley after seperating out all of the circuits and straightening all of the wires (instead of bunched up in the way that suits a FWD celica, which my loom is from) the diameter of my loom has reduced dramatically! Decided to split the loom coming into the engine bay into two, so it's a lot easier to take off. So one half for all of the stuff on top of the motor and everything else down the intake side. So the new loom includes provisions for some extra bits: Clutch switch (For launch control) Brake switch (For cruise control) Cruise control switch A panel of switches for the dash to turn things off and on A second map sensor for datalogging/nerdy purposes E-throttle (this is friggen greedy on inputs and outputs! Got it setup running awesomely though) Knock sensor setup properly (woohoo!) Having the Link output a PWM for the speedo (more accurate than current setup) And some other junk I might have forgotten about, but sweet jesus with all of the extra stuff it's a behemoth of a thing! Takes up my whole lounge floor haha. I finally got a clutch, ended up with a full faced disc Exedy Heavy Duty setup. Hopefully lives up to it's namesake. Been doing the hard yards yesterday and today to get the motor back in with the clutch and gearbox fitted, wiring loom back on... Fired up first pop which was awesome! Still lots to do, (like fit a radiator and the whole front half of the car) but its a great milestone to reach. Just about blasted my eardrums out starting this thing up while the oxy sensor was unplugged! Need to calibrate it before plugging it in, but after 2 days of hard slog to get this far I'm happy to have a break for the rest of the night and get stuck in again tomorrow. Can noooooootttttt wait to drive this thing again! OS drags and summer trackdays just cant get here quick enough

  38. So, this has been sitting in the shed since os trackday. Speaking of which, other than all the good cunts. wasn't up there with the best trackdays ive done, hampton seems to hate me. firstly with some irregular bodily functions that had me gapping to the nearest facilities more than once. Then the old 4age doing the same chucking the oil out the breather due to to many rpm's. tyre choice was some ok t1r's up front and old hard worn out t1r's on the rear, with the previously mentioned oil from the front making it all the way back there too! (sorry motorbike guys) which made for some hectic oversteer and accidental drift runs. i also did a hopeless job of bleeding the rear brakes so they didnt really do anything. fronts were fried. did mange to get some good hooning in there though. ah well maybe next time! Other than that i sold out and got a mate (thanks!) to cnc machine me some longer trumpets, which i've been testing today white ones are the ones i made ages ago. which have been chopped up a bit. as they were for silvertop throttles. about 70mm long new ones are about 110mm They shifted the power around a bit and filled in a few holes. have the before and after map if any techo people are interested. up to 10% difference in fueling in places. Sadly the 4 cylinder harmonics have spoiled the fun again. at high rpm the whole manifold vibrates enough to pop the throttle linkage off.. unsure if its fixable yet, may have to go back to the old setup. unsure if its the extra weight and/or the material thats causing it . plastic ones had no drama.

  39. whilst waiting for food to cook i thought id show you this. its pretty good for the first block. apart from the couple of bits sticking through its correct shape wise and you could, if you were a ruff cunt, spot prime this patches and put colour on it because its that close. very happy about that. it will get one more coat of primer and a final block before colour. 2015-09-23_06-41-42 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-09-23_06-41-32 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-09-23_06-42-38 by sheepers, on Flickr also i paint the wheel on purpose because. now imma stuff some foods down my pie tester then attack the other side.

  40. I always wondered if you could run an airbag system using an OEM control system from a car that has bags. The 88-92 shape Galant came with ECS in the top spec FWD cars, you could adjust the ride height and stiffness on the fly and it would automatically lower the car at speed along with sending more air to one axle or one side when the car brakes or corners heavily. It had its own electric pump and three valve/solenoids per axle. The bags ran in tandem with softer springs in the struts, but unfortunately they were prone to wearing out every 5-10 years. I wanted to transplant it into my VR-4 but the rear suspension is different between FWD and 4WD so stock shocks can't be mounted. Video of it doing its thing - quite cool for 25+ years old

  43. towed it down to work to do the exhaust i had over adjusted the brakes, so adjusted them again today and backed them off a bit, sits at not a bad height id almost say it needs to go down slightly more in the rear just a touch? chucked the new dizzy bits together and checked the lead lengths, looks all good, need to suss the wiring for it next exhaust has been made and sitting in place, just needs the mounts welded on then pull it out to paint then back in and weld muffler in, stoked with the job they did need to get the carb back on, suss more wiring and grease every thing while its up on the hoist. also have the little brothers escort down the shed, t has a 12a and s1 box that needs the gearbox out, it crunches into 2nd and 3rd.

  44. cheers, heres a couple of photos from after i removed the canopy tray and bull bars Yeah i had plans of doing a rotary one but the extra cost was going to make it a really long term build and a wee bit impractical, so decided to just redo everything and avoid cost of cert and sold 12a motor and box to fund new parts. Yeah meaning oil as in fish oil it to prevent any rust in the future I've heard its a good thing to do, planning on holding onto this for a long time will hopefully have a update of a painted chassis by the end of the week
