  3. cleaned all the valves up. Replaced 3 inlet valves that were too rusty. Spent way more hours then i should have tryna lap them in with grinding paste. Some of the seats were too pitted so made up this fly cutter looking thing by welding a piece of tool sleel onto the head of the valve and grinding it up to the correct angle. Not as successful as id wished bit did the job. Needs at least 2 cutting faces idealy to stop it following the contour in the seat face. Lapped it in and should do the trick. Has had 3 new stainless exhaust valves at some stage and hardened exhaust seats.Hoping all the water in the inlet was from sitting outside or a leak in the roof and not some shoddy machine job back in the day thats gone thru one of the water jackets

  4. So this happened. Was cashed up and gave up on getting a wagon so made an offer on this bad boy and next minute shes in my shed. 1977(regod as an 81 which it isnt) MX31 Corona Mark 11 Grande In 1992 she was converted to a Mustang 289 V8 manual with a borg warner 9 inch. Apparently it has a Clevor engine which Im yet to confirm. Fitted with a nice demon carb. Awesome throttle response! Shes all certed with a ridgy didgy 1992 cert plate. On hold. Trailered her home from Auckland.A few days later she had factory mirrors back in place. Started to remove the pin stripping only to find the main red bit is painted on. Gutted. Factory colour is a beautiful champagne so I might spray her back to that seeing there are a few rust bubbles on her I want to sort out. But this all depends what I do with it. Got her running but the clutch has welded itself to the flywheel from sitting for 2 years. Goes on par with my old 1uz one, but with longer ratios so pulls hard. Got all the fruit my Grande sedan does, air con, power steering, electric windows, IRS, overriders etc. Very excited and will update as progress takes place. Will be getting new plus soon and a battery. Will get a video up and the whip the box out and sort this clutch. Discussion Thread

  7. Is that the small clear plastic tubes with the loose coppery stuff in it? I put one of those in the Samurai coz it had a crack in the block (still does) A week later I had to get the radiator rodded, it had blocked up all but 6 tubes. It did stop the leak tho...

  8. This week is one year being on the road, so tidy up was required after making the milestone of its first ever Leadfoot Festival. Started off parked alone, but then I found some friends. Semi related, this was Dad's other white sedan RX3 project- Rod Millen's tribute RX3. So yeah last week we had to say goodbye to our Mk5 Cortina Ghia, which allowed for extra garage space... so why not park diagonally and become garage king? Also that wall features many hundreds of layered posters of 70's rally cars- all have been subject to stray darts. Firstly: my windscreen cracked in two places- one reaching 29cm and one 17cm. Many thanks to Jeremy at Bespoke Auto Glass- not only does he do a great job, he also has incredible life stories and history of rallying, and travels to you to work out of his Imp! Secondly: the door handle decided it wanted to not work as a door handle anymore, thanks bud. This was all sorted by bribing Stephen with beers. Shout out to Mexico for Corona payments. Finally here is RX wedged between its two Ford brothers

  9. Discussion - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/47057-anglia4s-1968-ford-mustang/ The story of this car starts a very long time ago. When I was about 18 I brought this 68 notch off Ebay and went about importing and getting it on the road. A couple pics from the Ebay ad: Its a mostly original 289 with C4 auto. When I bought it, it was meant to have had new shocks, brakes and tires. It had new tires, but was undriveable with the shocks it had, had nearly worn right through a front rotor and also had a broken windscreen. The very first time I drove it, a power steering line burst onto the exhaust and the bloody thing caught fire! Like big fire, out the hood up the windscreen! Luckily it didn't really do any damage. After replacing the windscreen, shocks and brakes it finally got complied. But the engine had a rattle which we suspect is a broken piston and to this day (~7 years later) still haven't got around to investigating. In the mean time the car has been running a 302w that we had spare. We ran it with an AOD 4 speed for a while too as the C4 needed a rebuild. I did some other tinkering with it during these times: Tried some 17" Mach 1 wheels that I had on, young me thought they were great, older me is less keen. I made a start on a silly big sound system. Again young me... But then I had to go off to uni where I couldn't afford to run or maintain the beast. So my dad agreed to buy it off me on the proviso that one day I could have it back. So I went ahead and brought a more modern, low maintenance alternative: My 2004 Mach 1 Along the way I've still had a bit of fun borrowing the 68 off the old man now and again: I drove it to Christchurch in the snow once: It made friends; It featured in our wedding: Basically its been used lots across the family I've been wanting to buy it back for quite a while so I spent a bit of time lately cleaning and polishing my Mach 1, took all my pictures and wrote a nice long Trademe ad, then speaking with dad just before I listed it he mentioned that he really likes the Mach and perhaps we could do a deal. Sure thing! So a deal was struck, keys swapped, and tonight I got my beast back! Future plans involve lots of polishing. Dad already has a new front bumper on the way to replace the rusty one. I put some long tube headers on it a few years back but I'd like to rebuild the rest of the exhaust as its a bit choked and cackly. Ultimately one day I'll rebuild the 289. I'd also like to swap the 14's for 15's and drop the front an inch or so. Polishing and driving in the mean time though. She is a power steered, boosted disc brake cruiser and I'm glad to have her back!

  13. finally a new page!! so now that the suspension as settled itself the car sits a little lower on the drivers side, but cant really tell tbh, and lately the tires have been rubbing quite a bit so yesterday i took the inner plastic guard out but it was still happening today, in fact i think it was worse because it was against the metal, so in any case i decided i needed to fold the lip and pull the guard out just a bit... results are as follows tools of the trade cheers guys, catch you up! discuss here

  22. Todays my birthday so taken a day off to dick around in garage. For a trial fit I reckon its going well will need a HQ sump which I've sorted and maybe a few pipes shuffled on headers it actually has a heap of room around it and yes the the trans is still on the engine too and bloody fits the tunnel ! I've rolled it around the garage to check the height it'll sit at and it appears 5 or so mm higher than when I had the triumph motor in.

  24. Drove down to Christchurch from Auckland yesterday. Car went well, stopped off and visited the GCs at Olds Cool Autos in Palmy North. Used ~6.1 L/100 km of fuel and absolutely no oil on the trip. I call that a win Always fun when you are driving along at 2 AM and a cop car comes up behind you with lights flashing and all and then just over takes you. And the boat guys were playing with the lifeboats

  27. Finaly got the wheels mounted, exhaust done and a tune! The vacuum advance has a hole in it so am trying to source a new one, then the tune can be finished. I have only been able to find one supplier and they want $158 for it! So may end up buying a whole dissy new or second hand and using it for parts and spares. She was running like POS last night and I found out today that the brand new thermostat has locked shut (I even boiled it and it wouldn't open). Whiped it out and drove her around without one in and a huge difference off the bat. Will slap one in tomorrow night. I aim to get some cool pics up but here is one i got tonight before it got too dark. Front /rear ride height needs a tweak......not sure if I should raise the back an inch or drop the front. Will let the suspension settle and put pics up for your guys 5c on the matter. lovin the mags!

  29. so you are going 2 stage .ok 1st you might have to check your fuel pressure and lift it up to 75lbs and make sure it doesnt drop off .so good quality fuel reg. next set the inboards for idle and power and tune these for up to 50% throttle then from 3500 rpm after 50% start blending in the outboards all the way through using your 2 fuel tables at 100% throttle have the inboards 5% and out boards 95% and last im hoping your ecu has 8 injector drivers also dave whats your ign test advance as mine is 15 and we are using 26 ign timming for a std motor

Got it legal and tidied up to use for one of my wedding cars so was stoked about that.Got turbo off fletchs skyline (thanks) and modified manifold and exhaust to fit. New oil and water lines to suite. Fitted carpet as I'd never gotten round to doing it. Test drive lasted about 15kms before the gearbox let go. Third gear stripped. In went new box and all is well. Has just been sitting in the shed since our honeymoon. Really need to get it out and legal again

  32. We are heading to Wanaka next month for a mates wedding. Been planning to take the Mustang but also want to take my mountain bike. So the other day I widened the roof rack I made for the Cortina to see how it would fit/look and made a bike mount. Looks a bit silly but gets the job done I took it to a car show yesterday and the rack got plenty of comments. The guys in the Mustang club weren't fans haha. I was walking behind a couple of guys who were going on about how it was "Ruined" haha I told them not to laugh too hard as it served a practical purpose and then jumped in and drove off. They looked a bit embarassed at being busted bagging my car.

  33. Righto- so this thursday coming we are planning a cruise ending up in the maitai for BBQ. Most likely bbq area will be near the start of the valley as all the other spots further up have been chained off. Bring sandfly repellent.. Anyway- thinking of meeting at usual spot- The WOW carpark at 6pm. Then cruise through to richmond via bypass, up queenstreet, back to nelson via stroke and cruise through centre of town beeping horns fully naked. This will hopefully attract some publicity for the oldschool cause. You dont have to beep your horn..its optional. Any ideas, suggestions etc fire away. Hopefully we may well just have a few extra cars along after handing out flyers at the show. Paul did a stirling job today- he went back to the show and another 30 flyers left his hands. Cheers Paul!

  36. I'm home sick, so another lack luster update. I got a shorter alt belt, so that now has clearance from the steering doofer. Because I lifted the motor up and forward ever so slightly, i've had to redo the front and rear sections of the exhaust to stop it touching shit, but its all fitted now. I double heat wrapped the first section of down pipe, so it looks like its touching the chassis, unsure if cert man will like that or not. I also had to weld in another bung for the wide band sensor, as its 18mm, and Nissan uses girly little 12mm sensors. All snugly wrapped: The turbo is all on and hooked up, had to buy some of them fancy little fittings to make the water and oil lines work, OMG they are pricey little bastards, 3 tiny fittings came to $100, screw using big ones all over the show like people do. Black gold: I decided to replace all the silicon joiners, as most of them were poked/hacked up. I wanted black, as I don't like the blue ones, but ended up with pink, shit looks hawt. Also had to make an alloy filter holder, to gain some length. The other job I ticked off was the speed-o drive bush, knocked this up at work, and then bunged it in, LIKE A GLOVE. ^ I have six cans of de-greaser ready to go to town on the underside of this thing, so ewwey. Currently working on shorter sway bar links, seat mounts, and wiring. Hope to have it running in a week or so. Regards, VG.

  39. Got itchy arms trimming this heaps. Thanks Neal for sorting this out for me! Completely unsure which direction to head now. It fits far better than expected but still needs a ton of work (as well as a donor front steel bit to cut up) It does have some starved horse syndrome happening but pretty minimal considering how many thousands must have been pulled from this mold (rapidly, to keep up with demand) It won't ever look good in glass paint because its glass... But I'm not sure how much I want glossy paint on the whole car?

  42. Hell yeah- definitely a really cool thing! I had not heard of him prior to the PM I had got. After looking the show up I realised it was the guy who did the episode on the zero fucks given rx7 which I had really enjoyed watching so then I was very excited. I had kept it pretty quiet until after the filming was underway because I never knew if the shoot would ever go ahead or if they would actually make it to NZ. Made some good friends - all the crew were top. Hannah got on really well with Sarah who is apparently a very good stunt driver in LA. So we now have several places to stay when next over there It was really intersting watching how the days filming went about, what gear they had and how it was used etc. Matt was amazed at how well the Viva handled for something from the 60's still on pretty stock suspension with nothing but stiffer springs and better dampers. Good modern tyres help though! They loved the mini coke bottle shape and the overall style. Im hoping this vid will raise the awareness of Vauxhalls finest and one day Vivas might be worth hundreds of dollars......

  44. So.... the starfire is out and the 202 is in, running and holding fluid. Waiting on a longer throttle cable (should be here monday/tuesday). Suspension is in, front and rear discs mounted. All that remains is to change the rear bumper, bleed the brakes, fit handbrake cabe, exhaust from extractors, wire the tacho, fit the new (longer) cable and get thoses hotwires mounted. Will look at a leky fan but that can wait. Runs mint, cant wait for brakes so we can take her out for skids. Once i can take it out of the garage and get the wheels on ill post better pics.

  45. So, everything is out of my donor car except the diff, rear discs, rear hubs etc. Will have that squared away sometime next week. Motor and trans have been steam cleaned and wire wheeled and is now ready for a re gasket and paint. Will take the rear diff assembly and the K frame complete with power steering rack, front discs etc to work to get them steam cleaned. Will drop a few bits and bobs inc front and rear disc callipers into the Paragon bath.......then boom POR15 time. Have brought new low King springs, water pump and thermostat housing, Holley 350cfm carb, free flow manifold, trans service kit and engine mounts, so once all my shit is clean.......it will be swap time, cant wait!! Oh and I just picked these up today. Brought them from a funeral home. They had been on one of their hearses but they decided to "upgrade". It's pretty cool to know that people are dying to go for a ride on these rims.......Ba dom chhh! Once all this is on, it will be time to tweak the cosmetics. Will fit the rear fender and tail light extensions as well as the tacho from my donor car. Then i think i will stop there and see if I want to proceede any further. Will most likely leave it there....

And I absolutely love the almost shabbiness of his fabrication like a rebuttal of all the keen edged 3D blitzed designer Slack that so is the tedious pursuit of the fat wallets... the marks of files and hammers and the sand cast blemishes... so beautiful!
