  1. MY GUARDS ARE FIXED!!!! Suffice to say I'm pretty happy about it. Guards where repaired with just 1 day to spare before a group of us riverside gang members were due to leave for Toyota fest down in Cromwell. So in one day and two late nights i managed to get the car legal enough to get a warrant and then low enough again to be cool. I would have liked to get the front down a bit more but virgin guards and stupid tyre profile would not allow it. Also ran out of time and patience. P.S rear guards arent finished yet either, still need a bit of careful shaping to get perfect and a proper paint as they are currently just in a white primer. After about a 800km round trip the car was still in one piece, despite all the tyre rubbing and chassis encounters with the road surface. Here is a bunch of pictures.

  2. so last nights mission was to get the rear facing seats in. I was very impressed that my wagon (which had never had the rear seat before) had all the seat mounting points and seatbelt mounting points. they all had rubber bungs to protect the tread aswell! also very impressed that the seat was out of a 940. yes the similarities are next to identical between the 940 and 740 but it was still really impressive. bring on the booze trips!!

  3. hi guys thought i would get back on this stuff and show u a little of my project im planing on finishing up this year.... i have a 1982 datsun 1200 ute running standard motor with a few small tweaks to get her motoring abit more all adjustable suspension front and back with also rear independent suspension i have modified to sit nicely under the ute. i used a 510 sedan rear set up which made it easier all the diff bolts straight up to the drive shaft which is pretty cool makes things easier... alot of tweaking and slight mods to make it work in it..... i chose the 510 simply because i wanted the ute to still be era correct (ish) and the single arm can get my truck lower to the ground haha.... with a s14 set up theres alot more shorting of the subframe more weight as well... and the top wishbone arm will hit the chassis so yea... if the 510 xmember etc can work well in the race cars and dominate on the race track in its day y shouldnt it be able to do the same in my ute. couple of pics of her Discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/52317-anton-fs-datsun-1200-with-irs/

  5. so after the weekends event and deciding i def need some decent front suspension so got started on my coilovers. The bilsteins are too long for the starlet tubes which is ideal cos i want a taller strut to do the opposite of everyone else on this forum so im going to use the mitsi tube over the starlet tube. I got some standard starlet struts to cut up thanks to the guys and olds-cool autos. Cutty cutty and very conveniently the OD of the starlet tube fits perfectly inside the mitsi tube. so I have the mitsi tube slotted over 80mm of the starlet tube to give it enough strength. It will be welded around the bottom and plug welded in 4-6 spots by someone that can actually weld as these will need to be road legal. all mocks up alright, just need to get it welded. Pretty keen to do a brake upgrade while im at it as the starlet ones are not the best.

  6. i maded suspension ended up with 6kg springs 150mm, ae80 shocks, strut housing shortened by 45mm i think, and ae86 camber plates. on my first test drive i realised my driveshaft loves my floor so need to cut and rasie that up. annnd picked some equips up and a bunch of other wheels slapped some tires on and this is the result. the back is still miles high because the ae86 diff hasn't been shortened so i can bearly fit a 13x6 +10, will get that sorted asap then the back can come down to match the front. after this drift day it will get a paint and a good needed tidy up

  7. My old man has an addiction to buying old stationary engines and tractors. One he has restored is 1914 (or so) Anderson hit and miss. He did a ground up rebuild then made a cart for it so that he can take it to vintage shows etc for other engineaholics to jiz over. He was using wooden wheels which look naff so I found some steel at work and made him some wheels. He's got a couple of old Listers he rebuilding at the moment and some weird of single cylinder engine that starts on petrol then swaps over to diesel? Keen to restore a couple myself, try to set one up to pump water up out of the lake below my house.

  8. More pleasant & positive progress with this good thing. Got these made up cos lug centric mags & washers suck.. Tidied up the area where they'll be seated.. Then gently belted them in place with a rubber mallet. Needed a little tap with a drift right at the end just to get them sitting a fraction below the mag surface.. But by god did these make a hell of a difference. From lining them up on the hub easier to how the car now drives, I wouldn't recommend anything else to anyone who have these kinda mags. The car behaves awesomely up to 100-110 and beyond to a number I better not mention. Needless to say I'm a happy man again

  9. Man, I really need to do something more exciting for these updates. Took to Nats, ran too hot for my liking but made the trip none the less. Whipped the radiator out and handed it to the seediest of Al's. Came back rodded and painted (as that makes all the difference). Dropped back in and seems to have done the trick. Heading up to National Park for easter so that will be the real test. In slightly more interesting news, I have some woodgrain vinyl/sticky film on the way to wrap the panel on the boot (to match the fake woodgrain dash), and a wood steering wheel as well. I love me some wood. Next on the list is to measure up the u-bolts and get some to suit blocks I have in stock, and then install some makita one ways in the front. Then find some more exciting wheels, so if anyone has some lush 14s or 15s in 5x114, let me know.

  11. Funny you say this, last weekend he was at a 2 day vintage engine/tractor/cars jiz fest out at Karaka I think. Him and his mate loaded up the transporter with one of the Alice Chalmers tractors, the Anderson and took a campervan. They obviously failed to factor in the adequate amount of booze required as he text me at 2am wanting a delivery of Jack Daniels. The old man has an old rusty but awesome Massey tractor he's getting running (was seized) and probably 10-15 engines around the place. Will take some more photos when Im over there next.

  12. I love the stationary engine blokes. They stand around their old chuffers in funny hats, discussing ancient technology and admiring each other's contraptions - often wearing tweed and smoking a pipe. Something to aim for...

  13. More unicorn-spec optional OEM parts have appeared on Yahoo, but the price = moonbeams. Factory monsoons for when it's pissing down but you absolutely need to have the window cracked open. At a cool NZ$700 I think I will let these pass by... I'm not even sure if I can have them and the roof racks fitted at the same time! Also for anyone who missed the gigantic Nats 2016 photo thread, here's a couple of cool shots of the AW with a fellow pop-up enthusiast at the top of the Bruce Road, Whakapapa. Covered the 750km round trip with no dramas although I have since noticed the starter is now a bit sticky when engaging. It's the perils of having just ticked over 100,000km I suppose! Also thanks to everyone's favourite train enthusiast Jamie/HighLUX for supplying a pair of replacement interior C-pillar trims without speaker grilles. Purists might argue that facelift AWs should have the grilles, but I discovered that having rear speakers was actually a big waste of time and prefer the cleaner look of the pre-facelift trims - so it all works out nicely in the end. 14. Next on the agenda is the suspension. The only thing I did notice at slow speed was a kind of "thrumming" for lack of a better description. It only happens every now & then & I'm not sure if its the road or possibly the shocks being worn out. Here are some pics of the current state of the suspension bushes & steering. Looks alright aye??.. Shocks are these Spax things. Is that a good brand? I've heard of them before but can't remember if that's a good thing or not..

  15. Love a good morry, and yep keeping it sv is great idea as they've all had swaps... On my old sedan I installed a brake lamp behind the rear boot emblem. A sympathetic mod to stop numpties driving up my arse, though ironically enough I ended up using a bloke in front of me to stop after some serious brake fade down a long Dunedin hill...

  18. We do have places that can do this. I will get the offset changed on the 8 inch wide wheels if the 7 inch wheels don't fit. This is meant to be a budget build. I have a wife, kids, house, too many cars, not enough money...........

  19. I went down to the panel shop to try the new wheels. Too much back spacing. Bugger I like the overall look. And the rear view I did put on one of the 7 inch rims which looks like it will be OK. I'll one tire swapped over and bolt it up, fingers crossed. Anyone want to buy a pair of 8 inch wide HQ rims, they will fit under the back of a HQ-HZ.

  23. Sweet car man. I love this shape. I got kyb gas a just shocks for my Buick from rockauto for half the price of NZ including the shipping. They were about us$35 each and made a huge difference.

  24. The gear box is heaps better on the beams, it is also much bigger than a type 9 (which is what ill assume you would want to run behind a zetec?), the head is also better on the beams. Zetec Is much cheaper though. I'd have to say the sr route as well, for simple cost effectiveness, and a clear path for improvement.

  25. I've got some word documents with pictures of injected wiring looms if that's any help to you? They're relevant to this type of engine into a LH Torana but might be useful. PM me your email & I can fire them off to ya if you want them.

  26. Nice work on the spacers, big win there. Looking at the rubber on the control arm I'd say they are toast. Complete kits are pretty cheap from the US. If there is no play in the tie rod ends give it all a good clean and a grease and away you go. Wash world is the answer in the first place. Spax shocks have a good name, those look pretty old. Pedders have been my go to for a few years now. Both the Firebird and Silverado have them,

  32. The low ones are where the windows are going. I might offset the ones in the back wall though as per Adoom, easier to nail. This timber is old and hard, I have had to drill the boards to start the nails to avoid splitting.
