  1. and hows its going to be rolling into vinz looking like. Shit I'm pretty not sure on this, its either going to be an epic win or epic fail. or a whale. biggest issue really is time, I'm now over a week behind my planned schedual due to issue with mount, and I need to get ripping into Nikis Austin as soon as I can, which is this weekend haha We will see. Also I silicone the tires because Bizzo told me to.

  3. my brake bits have been dribbling in from around the world, and i can now assemble the front brake calipers. Calipers are cast with FIAT/Girling and are also used on Dinos and Panteras and some other super expensive and rare cars, but also including (thankfully) old volvos (amazons and P1800s), which have a large aftermarket suppy, so are also avalaible new, all from Skandix.de (reccomended) Gulp. pads are fairly easy to come by, as used on only the finest british tat, these were only $9 on rock auto New cylinders in - fitting the rubbers is a bit of a trick! Read to bolt back on with new soft lines Just waiting on an ebay purchase for the rear cylinders, and some handbrake hardware and the rears will get the same treatment (will see about the rear pads being reshoed at a later date) and once installed i can drive it out and turn it around to get at the drivers side rust - untill then ive kinda run out of things to do.

  5. I was building a Ford Escort Mk1 gasser and documenting the build on here and on facebook, but a few things made me totally change direction. After spending a huge amount of time on the Escort chassis, I still wasn't happy with the compromise of it. That coupled with the amount of new (read bloody expensive) panels needed to make it as good as I wanted it made me lose a bit of interest. Total interest was lost when I started to build the engine and found a crack through one of the bores. So the shell/chassis and all of the engine parts were sold off (at quite a handsome profit I'd like to add), and I concentrated on my bike for a while. Then this popped up for sale. It's a 1938 Ford model 7Y (which is dimensionally and physically similar to a Ford Pop). It's very straight and solid and was bought complete. The nice stuff from the Escort build will find it's way to the 7Y, so it will still be 'Cheatin' The Reaper' - just a genetically modified version. It didn't take long to strip it down to just the body, leaving the chassis to be sold off along with the engine, gearbox, interior etc I designed a new chassis, made out of 75x40x3 steel box, which is at this stage at the moment: Front suspension is parallel leaf springs. I made the shackles & mounts: Then narrowed the drop-tube axle to suit: I found a nice and perfectly sized fuel tank on TradeMe and made the crossmember to suit. This is 75x40x3 box again, with 3mm gussets: I've bent up the hoops for the rollcage (no pics yet) and am just waiting for a nice full day to get the whole lot jigged up and welded together. Rear axle will hopefully be a Jag IRS. Engine will be Ford V8. Body will be chopped about 2.5" and front end will be fibreglass flip front. Keep checking either here or on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mk1gasser/

  6. Well its a new year and I thought I should do some work on the old girl. 1st time I've tryed the new cross member since making it and its a nice fit. Then mounted the escort steering rack and the to is a good fit with full movement and nothing hitting...so far Then I put spear motor and box in and that was not straight forward at all....thanks to the shut loads of rafters in the garage roof ....so close together and low. Ended up leaving the motor hanging while I lifted the front of the car so the wife could take the axle stands out so the car was low enough. Once all in its good to see plenty of room around the master pipes at the rear of the motor and also around the steering joint. Now I can continue making shit.

  7. pulled the lid off to have a closer look. Here you can see the Eaton M90 supercharger, with throttle intake at the rear. These engines did not run an intercooler, although aftermarket ones are available. Looks like clearance to the throttle body will be tight, otherwise everywhere else looks easy

  8. Over the holidays I didn't get as much work done as I had hoped. A big Christmas and boxing day left my enthusiasm very low, as well as a decent new years for the first time in years, didn't help progress at all! (Dating game thread for info lol) Rafters up over Xmas/NY period. A few girts attached on the side and rear wall (can't do others until slab is poured) Purlins started on my last week of holidays. Not a bad view of the Tararua ranges. My mate the skylark? came to sing for me everyday (more likely attracting new lady friends). He thinks this new place is made just for him! I have now returned to work, so progress will be a lot slower!

  9. Plan so far: Denham is busy welding up a new frame for the oldschool banner. I'll grab some rope for it too and then that's done. Poo has loaned us a huge marquee for the weekend. Matteybean is kindly providing us with a heap of fencing pigtails to borrow for the weekend so we can mark out a campsite on Thursday night; (Denham, Dylan (Piazzanoob), Zebra Dude and I will be there after work on Thursday). I'm filling up a gas bottle and have to collect some batteries from Kempy so we'll have some radio/aux input tunes all weekend. Zebra Dude's Cadillac has had the starter motor replaced and we're working on the fuel leaks. Fingers crossed it should be ready today! It's a big team effort but so far it's going well. Everyone is helping out like the champs they are. Should be a sweet weekend.

  11. As per dream shed thread. This isn't really my "dream" shed but it's close enough for a rough cunt. So like, way back when I was 21 I bought 6.5 acres with the intention of building a house one day. I was a builder at the time which was perfect as there was no way I'd be able to afford to pay someone to do it. Fast forward 6 years, now single again with plenty of time on my hands and living with the olds while I sort my shit out. I decided it was time to do something with the section, but building a house was too difficult on a single wage, so I decided to do a workshop and live in it. Months and months went by. I drew plans, got quotes, talked to the bank, got a 2nd mortgage etc. Seemed like an eternity to get everything sorted. Mid December, just before I went on holiday before Christmas. I mowed the lawns and sprayed the drive.

  12. At work . That's not even the track, that's the testing ring. Down the hill, there is 2.3km of paved private glory. I'm not going to lie, I've managed to score about the best job, in the world, ever. Yesterday I fixed a Ferrari 458 Challenge racecar (minor electrical fault). Today I spent the day fitting aftermarket race suspension to a Lotus 340R. It's the bizzaro world, and I'm going to ride it out for all I can.

  20. Hey guys, Thought we could change the meet up over the summer months. Had a talk to a few of the members, and have come up with something similar but a bit different for this month. As we're summer now, not a huge need for an undercover carpark (hopefully!). Meet at the Campbell Street carpark next to heatrite at 6:30. From there we'll walk down to Pacha's Cafe (Kebabs, Iskendas, and the most pine enducing Baklava). He has some outdoor dining out the back. Hoping to get a hold of him to see if we can book it out. https://www.google.c...!7i13312!8i6656 We'll seeya then! Sparkle

  29. i have no idea. given up trying to predict what this thing does haha. Thats why im trying not to change too much at once. will do some before and after logs to see whats going on, then go from there.. should have around 100mm of straight before the collector, so if i get keen enough to tune the length better, can chop the pipes back and slide collector back on.

  31. With the help of my old man in his John Deere 6010, we erected some poles and braced them up ready for concrete. Starting to take shape, looking something like an American style barn.

  32. The next job was to set up some profiles. I think the permit finally came in just after this. Whew! Just in time to start work over the Christmas break. Holes! These were dug by a bobcat with an auger attachment. The center rows are 1200mm deep and 600mm wide, outside rows 1000x600 and intermediate poles 600x600. The day after permit arrived, I booked the inspection for the footings/pole holes.

  35. Put the rear window in, went a bit cray cray with the sealant tho, as discussed it's bostick 5615 mastic.. Whoops.. Front window ready to go, just need to get another tube of mastic.. Had a small fail with the rear window, as the rubbers are original and 50 years old they're kind of weak and when I tried to do the cord method when installing, the first hard bit it came to split and the cord pulled right through.. doh!, can't really tell anyway and when I finally paint the whole car I'll put new seals in.

  36. Finished rear fitment with wheels mounted to axle, I have to raise the front slightly beacuse the tyre rubs on the top in the inner guard with people in it Mounted one broken headlight and put the switch on the bonnet coz I can do what ever I want and with no window and a tiny car its easily within reach when seated. this photo makes the rear look like it has lame camber but its actully stright up and down Only 11 days and heaps of work until i need this driveable, so there probley wont be any posting till after its done.

  38. Thanks to the person who got me those Mirage hubcaps at the last meet. I have gone to fucking hating the look of them. For ages as I always saw an old guy with them on his 85 Mirage. To absolutely loving the look of them. As a result of that they have now been takn off as I am afraid of them getting wrecked.

  39. Its pretty important to swage it correctly. We find so much stuff on the plant where I work that has been done by lazy cunts or dudes who have no clue. I was working on some shit and a tube let go next to me because someone hadn't swaged it right. Next thing there's 100 bar of steam venting to atmosphere, I'm lucky I didnt get my face burnt off lol But yea its good stuff

  40. Laced the new rims up, first ones I've done from scratch, just went methodically and it seemed to go ok once I worked out the pattern (seemed easiest to install all trailing spokes both sides then feed in leading spokes one at a time). I made some adapters for my motorbike stand and used a dial gauge, which made it real easy to true. The bog-roll stands and lump of wood with a hole in it are waiting a patent to be granted... Great practice for the motorbike wheels I have waiting to be done, I've always thought this was some dark art that only bearded pipe-smoking blokes in dim workshops could master, so a few projects have stalled until I had a crack. When I get some rim tape and have assembled the SA hub I'll fit these rims to the bike, and start looking at my antique shifter...

  41. I have started fiber glassing the body, it is a lot harder than I thought it would be to go around edges... The first batch had quite a few air bubbles near the 90 degree bends in the cloth, I cut them out once dry and tried again.... I think I have it sorted now though.

  43. So, to hell with the Mazda and Holden. It's all about the 4wd now. pulled the guards to check for mud and rust, oh and rat nests. Found mud and nests but no rust other than in the front of the guards, so bloody stoked, thought for sure it would be rusty as hell . Anyone know how rusty your guards can be for a WOF ? Hope to keep this as close to og as I can, that means no panel repairs or new paint. Inside was clean as, under all the shit. og vinyl floor mats came up mint with a scrub, underlay has to go, way too much rat piss in it. Gave the guards a quick cut, came up better than I thought. Look forward to doing the whole cab.

  44. I finally got the ride height of this badboy sorted last week! Rear leaves were reset 3" by Bellamy and East- Ive used these guys a number of times and always happy with their workmanship, turnaround and cost. Cant recommend them enough! The front springs got were modified for race application by the formidable Mr Milwaukee. I was told taking off a single coil would probably be enough, but after having to drop the lower control arms out to remove the springs, I decided that i didnt really want to do it twice. If it was too low, then I'd add blocks to even it out. A whopping coil AND A HALF! made their way to the scrap bin. I do like to live dangerously, but thankfully it was the perfect amount to match the rear. Big thanks to #AndyGal for pulling his hungover tired self out of bed on Sunday to help me roll the guards. They may look a little rough, but we weren't exactly working with straight guards. IMO they match the rest of the truck perfectly. Next up, sort the steering out. Vent your anger and frustrations here.. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48611-gomaxgos-b1600-yarn/

  45. towed it down to work to do the exhaust i had over adjusted the brakes, so adjusted them again today and backed them off a bit, sits at not a bad height id almost say it needs to go down slightly more in the rear just a touch? chucked the new dizzy bits together and checked the lead lengths, looks all good, need to suss the wiring for it next exhaust has been made and sitting in place, just needs the mounts welded on then pull it out to paint then back in and weld muffler in, stoked with the job they did need to get the carb back on, suss more wiring and grease every thing while its up on the hoist. also have the little brothers escort down the shed, t has a 12a and s1 box that needs the gearbox out, it crunches into 2nd and 3rd.

  47. Also, I got sick of the squashy steering wheel so upgraded to this: And this morning some total dickhead was too distracted admiring my car (he claims) that he drove right into the back of it. I was pretty unhappy to say the least. Luckily he was only going slowly, there doesn't appear to be any significant damage, the bumper is snugged up a few mm closer to the body. I'll take it off and make it's all nice and straight but I think it should be fine. Should be addressing the low properly in the next couple of months as it's still rolling at original nanna spec height. Will get new wheels at the same time. I put the weird Uni-Pex wheels on for now, they look okay, but not great, definitely need more width/less tyre wall. Lastly, I really need to get the carbs cleaned up and tuned, anyone know a good carb place? Around New Lynn, Avondale-ish way would be good, or anywhere between there and town where I could drop it off on the way in. Cheers. http://oldschool.co....mitsi-colt-gto/
