Had been looking for a kit that someone had not started for years. Found this on Trademe late one night and rung and done the deal next morning. My little girl Shelby and I picked it up the following night. It came as body/chassis/front A arms and the Le Mans fuel cap. Unloading early in 2008.A trip to Wilfs junkyard got me some headlights, Mirage steering column and Torana rack. fannied the lights up a tad.Won a dual quad manifold on ebay so the engine was decide on at that point, a 428 FE Ford.More ebay goodies.Header tank.Trademe came up with a pair of seats.428 Fe turned up from the States. Cobra Jet heads.Hardened seats fitted and skimmed.N.O.S isky cam kit from ebay.More ebay, big bellhousing for 12" clutch, Mcleod Flywheel, starter and clutch fork. The rest of the Mcleod clutch setup from ebay. And last of the bunch, an Edelbrock alloy water pump. I have other projects, mortgage, kids etc so things will happen eventually.24 points

Trying to get this junk ready for next weekend. Put new springs in, 200-100-20lbs. sits a bit high still, but seems to work good otherwise. maybe shocks are a little hard. built new exhaust. put on trail gear transfer case e brake, which was a big heap of shit tbh. still need to get cable shortened or get later model cable. mounted recovery point. then got bored and drove over shit7 points

Chipping away, nearly finished. Lots of little bits done. Mud flaps, half done tail lights, safety chain, decent pins for each end of the ram, most of the table top welded on, and a hydraulic tank that was a LPG cylinder. The tank was quite a bit of work, It has a removable top so I could get inside it and clean and paint it inside so no grit or welding splatter goes through the pump. It also mounts the return filter. If I did it again I'd do it a bit differently. So it goes. Everything's plumbed up, pump is mounted and it works! Well even. There's a couple of things to do yet, the Chinese ram has a pin hole in a weld and leaks oil, there's a couple of braces and guards to make, and wire up some tail lights. Then it's all go.4 points

Struts back from silver paz and have been de-embrittled Cant buy off the shelf du-bushes so had to machine the O.D of these very tricky as it kept catching the split on the bush then self destroying. Made a mandrel and had a hose clamp around the bush and took small cuts until I finally had 4 bushes. Bushes in bilstein shocks in , 300lb 2.25" 9" long springs Next to make are top hats and get some hubs. Also might need keeper springs to get nice and low2 points

Roughly threw on fuel tank (Stu my good friend says hes gonna make me a sweet ali one... ) and some other bits together, so could test a few things. Seems to be working well apart from a few drama's. Brakes don't work, need bigger master cylinder im thinking. and the spring situation. some soft 10" springs should fix that. Droped the clutch with a few rev's, and the ass didn't jump up in the air or squat from what i could see. so the 4 link angles must be pretty close! Extra light weight version. / Show us your 4age2 points

Righto, thought I should spin some yarns about my Commodore on here because after reading a fair bit of threads, you guys don't seem half bad... So, I acquired the car after my late Grandfather passed away (RIP) and my Grandma had no use for it, after a chat with other family members, it was mine (I did have to pay the sum in which the local car yard offered her to my dad's request). My Grandad was the 2nd owner of the car after it was purchased as a company car from a yard brand new (I have an impressive amount of handwritten information about the car, repair, service history etc.). He used it for a daily driver for a bit before it moved to the designated caravan hauler due to the mighty and grunty 202 and 3 speed auto. Once I got the car (Start of 2012) She flew through the wof (Have over 20 + wof sheets for the car) and dad and I proceeded to drive it home to Auckland from Palmerston north, in which we discovered how uneconomical it was, especially considering dad drives a manual LS1 daily, and usually drives it like he stole it. So once I got my restricted, I barely drove it due to not being able to put gas in the bloody thing (often have run out of gas). So it sat for well over a year after failing a wof on rear window rust and after having multiple brake booster and master cylinder issues..... BUT NOW IT'S BACK IN ACTION. Anyways, onto the junk inside her trunk engine bay... - Black 202 engine (Reconditioned short block, converted cylinder head to lead free spec) - 3 speed auto - VT Brake booster and Master cylinder Also It's on VY SS Mags which I am no longer fond of and also has a SAAS steering wheel (HAHAHAHA I KNOW. But legit feels better than the normal bus steering wheel it came with). Short term goals: - Manual conversion to M76 5 speed factory spec (Have manual pedal box and clutch cable so far) - Lower with some half decent shocks (My girlfriends swifts handles so much better than this hunk of shit) - Black steel wheels, like NASCAR kind of look - Enough said - New radiator as current one leaks so bad omfg (Convert to fans??????) - Put some goodies I've accumulated over the last month - I have mismatching tail lights after some iufweieu hit me in a car park a year or so back, so would like matching ones Long term goals: -MOAR POWER Hopefully some of that list WILL HAPPEN (maybe, maybe not), but lets be honest, I'm a poor ass uni student with a girlfriend so probably not quickly. anyways, discuss my build-ups ! //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/48943-vkzacs-1985-vk-commodore/1 point

More work tonight, used the front of the APC sills and the rest of the zinc coated ones i had folded up. The fit a the rear isnt perfect, but i think it will pull into shape ok. Ordered a spot weld kit from Eastwood for my Tig welder, and some rustproofing paint and such so i can paint the insides before welding the sills on. I have to make the bottom of the A pillars still as well, not to scarey, then ive got the whole process to do on the other side. Vents under dash will be a big job, not a massive amount of rust, but some funny shapes to deal with under there.1 point

Black Zinc'd, Primed and Seam sealed, undersealed. Colour matched the fuel flap however the under bonnet is somewhat filthier than the fuel flap so it still stands out. New Battery, Dizzy Cap, Rotor, TCI-H Unit. Second hand main fuel pump - Lift pump isn't working either now (only discovered just now they have a lift pump after I worked out there wasn't any fuel getting to the high pressure pump) Painted brakes, replaced pads, bled the system. Seat back in. Assembled the front end back on too. Replacement Lift pump on its way. Might get this thing going sometime yet lol! Discuss; http://oldschool.co....ith-added-moss/1 point

You can remove the rear section of the MX5 box and bolt on a rear from a rotary/626 box. Bolts straight on however you have to change a few other bits a bobs. easy to do. I did this when I fitted a mx5 engine and box to a rwd 3231 point

Some goodies arrived yesterday thanks to a OSGC for bringing them down from whangaraei for me ! Mint condition passenger seat . Had just gave it a good wash so fabric in middle is wet which is why it's darker. Have read good results using vht vinyl spray so may re paint it beige along with drivers seat Drivers seat in better condition than mine just dirty as shit . Nothing some paint won't hide tho haha Thats passenger seat Thats the better condition drivers seat than mine .. more filthy than a hooker ! Will give it a clean n use some vht paint over it which will tidy it all up .. will prob still run a seat cover until I get it upholstered propley ! Some mint chrome to replace the bits of mine that are stuffed ! Also got some 50mm lowering blocks which I will get machined down to about 30 mm which will bring it down to the same height at the front . These coronas seem to have their leaf mounting bracket close to the ground . Mine are already currently sitting at 100 mm .. blocks will end up going in After a WOF Had another panel beater that threeonatree and zebra dude put me on too. He came look at it on Saturday who will give me a price n a date when I csn get it dropped off today fingers crossed it's not too much different from my first quote ! That's all for now Thanks for having a gease1 point

Washing the accumulated storage grim off Felicity revealed her lovely condition. Oh she looks good and I must admit a few caresses were shared as she was tucked back into the garage... With inspiration flowing the W50 gearbox and Pinto bellhousing was trial fitted. Success! As it came together nicely. Then I left my rubber arm a bit too close to the guys and ended up accidentally buying something... Why chose this jellybean shape of '90's excess...? Because YB Turbo. Hmmmm a little distraction, again. Thank goodness I have an understanding wife as I dragged this home.1 point

So finished off spring some areas today, hit any sign of rust with the wire wheel and gave everything a good metal prep. Here it is all masked up in the booth ready to go and here it is in a couple coats of primer After I got that done spend the last part of the afternoon striping the two doors, they are almost ready for a metal prep so hopefully might get them done on monday. Didn't get anywhere near as far as I hoped but glad to have a good chunk in primer before the weekend.1 point

Thank you for the encouragement everyone. Here's tonight's glueing and screwing efforts. There's lots of sanding still to come as I've made a few mistakes, but it's still better than watching TV1 point

Het guys really struggling to find a panel beater in auckland to have my car ready by hanmer meet .. anyone no someone keen on cashie in PM me Ok so I put the eclectic dizzy n ignitor in and I couldn't get the car to start I had it sparking n wanting to start but when I turned key back off the start position it would like die / stop running.. unsure of why just yet. Also put some new shocks in the front and put some proper lowering springs in so now sits at 100 mm off cross member ! Also after geasing through the show us ya sheds thread I decided to build me a work bench . 3.6 m x 600 mm deep. Haven't finished shelving units etc ran out of timber ! Also took the car outside n gave a quick wash engine bay was getting dusty ! Arse still needs to come down by about 20 mm to match front but will do that last . Thanks for looking1 point

A few months go by and I finally get pissed off enough with my kitchen. Mainly the cupboards. Pictures describe my problems with them. So out they came. Before: My sweet oven After: My sweeter oven As we removed them, we were forced into either keeping the louvred window or blocking it. Now since I'm lazy as fleck but enjoy a challenge (conflicting, right?) i decided to have a go at framing a window. I hate working with wood. You can just 'build it up with the welder' if you cut it short or on the piss. But it came out mint. Straight enough for me. Replaced a few of the tongue and groove boards too since Mr Bora Beetle made refuge in them.1 point

Ever had that feeling where you know you shouldn't have started messing with something? I thought I'd give the cooling system a birthday as it looks all rusty and shitty inside and its running at just over half way on the temp gauge. climbing to 3/4 when under heavy load. Hotter than I would like. Then i pulled the fan assembly off the radiator. Lots of lovely black water came out. So I sent the radiator off to Motueka Radiators to have a good clean up. I thought I better locate the thermostat and see if that is part of the issue....couldn't find it.....Surely its not in that weird canister with hoses coming off it. Oh wait yes it is because Soviet Russia! I cleaned all the shit out, tested it, and it seems to open at about 88-90 degrees. So I'll roll with that for now. Bit hotter than I'd like though. And all the hose clamps are single use only! Similar design to CV boot clamps. Almost like you were never meant to take it apart. mmmm gunky Radiator came back all clean and like new...or so I thought So I cleaned up the engine bay, smashed it all back together and filled it with coolant as quickly as possible to attend this months Nelson meet in Takaka. Total disaster!!!! Jane and I made it 3/4 up the Takaka hill and noticed the temp gauge creeping up again. Then I noticed a green substance leaking onto my left foot from the heater core. Uh oh... So we pulled over, popped the bonnet and there was green water everywhere. Dobbie at the Radiator shop must have had one to many doobies that day and forgot to re solder the inlet pipe onto the radiator properly! So that was our trip over. We coasted back down the hill, topped up the water at the bottom and went home. Out with the radiator again. Ugh. Lada life.1 point

+1 for not dealing with the trademe guy. if its still the same guy from a year or so back anyway. he managed to solder the 12v+ and ground together on the loom that a mate got off him. can buy megasquirt prebuilt from diy autotune, if you wanted to go that way. the triggers on them aren't very flexible. one of their big downfalls imo, either have to go with a knowen setup, or be prepared for alot of messing around to get a clean rpm signal tuning software is ok. they have a crappy loom plug im talking ms1,ms2 and ms3 here. i would spend the extra and go with a link if you can. they just work, no hassles and software is better. maybe find a 2nd hand g3 if you want something cheaper. although they seem to hold there value1 point

Finally got it into the driveway, flatmates gunna hate me, its the 5th car know, not including my daily! We broke the windscreen on the way back, didn't realise it wasn't urethaned on, stopped after about 10kms to adjust the tie downs and it had smashed, only then realised it was a brand new windscreen still wrapped in Pilkington plastic. Something had to go wrong! Just about fully stripped interior. Steering wheel was locked, so I dropped the tie rod ends out and smashed the shitty wheels with a hammer to steer it into the driveway, In the process I split one of the tyres, d'oh! HX Premier style Badge Rear end ROH Wheels, 14x8jj, pro stars (?), wrapped in 235/60(65?)/14 BF Goodrich Radial T/A's Basically brand new as if they were bought a few months ago and left in the garage. Had to put one of them on to move the car as the rear right had already gone flat, and pushing it by myself was too fucken hard. Wanted to check them out anyway. Needs some slammage Gearbox found in the shed, not sure exactly what it is, 3 or 4 spd auto though. Mint rear louvres found in the shed, have two or three sets of these now Brand new radiator also found, unsure of brand, but looks mint Chrome, love it!1 point
