  1. Well, Oldschool Nationals 2015 weekend was a hoot. Those that were there will know. Those that weren't there missed a long weekend of good mates, sweet roads (including gravel), hooning, boozing, yahooing. Holy hell was I surprised when prize-giving rolled around on Saturday night and the Eterna picked up Best Sedan. Shit the bed! There was a heap of other sweet Sedans there and it is honor to get the award. After driving the hell out of the car here is how it sits in the garage.

  10. Finally a trial fit for the left hand side, every single panel has been replaced and it feels like I've spent many nights cutting profiles. I pre-drilled every single hole on the new panels to match the existing chassis holes so I wanted to see it it all came together, couple of slight adjustments (0.5-1mm) here and there but in all it seemed to come out OK. A bit more shininess with a splash of etch primer.

  11. It's where people (mostly wealthy men) gather in either Camaros or various old car with V8 engines, most of them not a 253 and they do things i have not figured out yet, it sometimes takes them 3 days. Some of it involves driving the very crowded streets in cars with loud engines. Can make for some good spectating, but i get bored after an hour or so. Anyone going? (don't know if i should go)

  12. So i got the ute from the tow company today and as soon as i got it home i tore it apart to see the real damage, and luckily enough for me there is no chassis damage!! and the engine itself seem fine too all suspension and steering components are all still in tacked and working fine managed to straighten abit of the wheel-well out with a fence strainer and a tree... worked quite well both radiators are fucked so they camp out too SO, all in all it not as bad as first thought before during after and almost all the shit i need to replace and the best part is the doctor said i can have tomorrow off, and with friday saturday being my usual weekend, i have three more days to get stuck in!! discuss here

  15. yea ill have a go at it. do it on saturday if your free. cost you the princely sum of 20$ or 1 six pack of little creatures pale ale. (or whatever the one in the yellow packet is) between now and then if you could soak it in simple green that would make welding easier. cheers. 021429522.

  20. Nah the guy just took one look at the wheels and said they're a bit too wide, so we didn't technically 'fail' i guess, more just 'DNF'. Yea might definitely take you up on one of those offers! Will let you know what we decide

  21. Bad luck about the flares! Does sound like BS considering so many cars like Mins run them as you said.. Anything else it fail on? More than welcome to come use my pump again to put both sides up to sky scraper height. Also seeing as my car isn't going anywhere soon you can put my steelies for a wof if you want, nearly new tires on them.

  22. Wah wah, we hadn't even finished filling in the wof form and Maggie had already failed. Apparently the tread has to be completely under the bodywork, making our flares completely redundant. If she'd come with bolt on flares from the factory they would have passed no worries, even if we'd swapped them to aftermarket ones ourselves - seems a bit backwards to me. Our options at this point are... - Cross our fingers and take her somewhere else. - Pump the suspension up so much that you can hardly see the poke and take her somewhere else. - Get some fresh tires for the old steelies and put those on every time we go for a wof. $$ - Get the new wheels/flares certed. $$$ Does anyone have any experience with bolt on flares? Lots of minis seem to have them? In other news, GuyWithAviators kindly helped us pump up the left side suspension with his nifty pump so we now can get in and out of the garage! Cheers Andrew. We drove it home like this - at least Sammy1222 had a floaty ride. Temp sat at the high end of normal all the way (as usual). We evened up the suspension when we got her home, sitting perfectly now. So yea next step is to sort this wof situation out, then swap out the clutch and beach hop here we come.

  29. Just been to Nats - 1900Km, 270 litres of gas and 2.5 litres of oil after leaving home I'm back and the beast performed like an absolute world class champ. A picture from Markku - Cheers Absolutely wasted the Wagoneers plaque on a speed hump in Remuera and it's now pretty bent up but still holding together so on it shall stay. (felt like the whole weight of the rear slammed down on it HARD as it was momentarily standing vertical on the top of the speedbump)

  33. Thanks to everyone that helped here, it actually turned out straight forward to to hook it up but only if you work out the wiring from the various diagrams. My mate who wired it said he couldn't have done it without having the interior loom as a couple of wires were not as they appeared and the o2 sensor is a bit of a pot luck as it could be 1 of 3 brands, I have a Nippon Denso model which until we hook up the OBD2 aren't sure if it's working correct. I have isolated the OBD2 wires and they run to one of the fuse boxes and interesting which I hope may not be needed is that from the connector 1 wire runs back to the Body Module which I am not running. i am hoping it reports on cabin type info and not anything important. OLDSCHOOL FORUM yet again gets 2 thumbs up - great forum and even better people.

  34. It runs as it should tonight thanks to Pe-arce as he came up trumps for the missing pieces. I will do some tests as not sure what piece was wrong but the new pipe and MAF works a treat and it revs out now. Next: Alternator wired in Wire in OBD2 - Stripped out of the internal loom Rewire everything into the car as currently running wires out the door to the ECU Diff replacement + Driveshaft Tidy up everything. Then build a trailer.

  37. So went to drive out of my awkward (steep+tight corner) garage entrance on the way to the panel beaters to get the right front guard pulled out and the bloody slope did half the job for us! A fair bit of burnt rubber later, and she was off to the panel beaters.. Pulled it out 15-20mm or so, which would be enough to get the tyre snug under the flares (which went on a treat). A bit of a mission getting the car out of the garage again (front flare is a bit too low causing some rubbing only when turning sharp up a hill haha), but no problems on the road as yet. Think we will look into pumping up suspension a bit as the front now looks a little too low. Otherwise we were thinking of sanding a bit off the bottom of the flare? not too sure yet. By no means perfect but a nice temp, woffable (hopefully) look at the moment. Next job, wof. Discuss

  38. i lowered it some too. I got the suspension setup changed a fair bit. shorter and stiffer springs, revalved and shortened. figured it wasnt low enough, so Kelvin cut my front strut towers to let the top arms pass through. changed the front wheels to Impul pro mesh. 15x8.5 -8. And bought a set of ssr formula mesh. 15x7.5 and 15x8, unsure of offsets sadly. Uhh, found some OG Recaro SPG. What else? uhh, bought a big Whiteline rear swaybar just to find out that the car is too low to run it.

  39. So trying to keep up the momentum! Remove the drivers side door skin. This is the puke that was inside the doors. This one isnt as bad as the passenger one but still pretty shit! And get this bit of new steel tacked in before I have to go make dinner. So lets see if I can keep this up for the rest of the week...actually I wont cos I have to go to dinner tomorrow night. BUGGER!!!!!

  40. Lifted the front up a smidge so it doesn't rub so bad. Put some new shocks in front and rear. Took some photos. Happy with how it's looking! Love the interior in this thing!

  41. Shit I'm slack... since last post have only had a few sessions trying to buff up the shitty spray bomb paintjob (looks half decent though) reckon one more buff over the drivers side and it will look as good as it will ever look without repainting properly. Located heater hoses that fit so water is all plumbed up now. Painted stock steels orange. Look OK with the chrome beauty rings and pie dish caps. Finally managed to remove bonnet badge from rusty old bonnet. Cleaned it up today, apart from where someone hit it with a sander looks nice. Hard to find item... Still need to do: (list is boring and more for me than any of you) Mod front bumper brackets, put bumpers on (Chevette items front and rear) Accelerator cable and bracket fabricated. Bit of engine wiring, hopefully have someone lined up for this when he has spare time. Add clamps to fuel hose on underbody... anyone know how far apart these need to be? Remove fuel tank so external seal can be fitted... doh Put carpet back in, refix door cards properly, sill guards, trims etc etc blah Clean up seats and re install. Hopefully getting a Manta steering wheel for Brads car, bosskit and wheel from that will go here.. Need chop rear springs, obtain shocks to suit. Clean paint overspray and 30yrs of yuck from glass. Fit CD head deck... cassette deck face plate is AWOL. Purchase/find/steal a new battery. Tune the Webers. WoF - Reg - Skids on!

  42. Been thinking of changing the front of the car quite dramatically, mainly because I will most likely end up with a couple of variations (hatch/wag/coupe...) so it means that the car is different, more than the shape of head lites. This is what I'm conceptualising, levelling off cut out for headlites on bonnet and guards and running twin projector lamps, most likely from a motorbike. Feedback or opinions on this welcomed... the other reason is I wanna steal bonnet off the hatch for wagon convo I'm doing on a vette wagon, I have another bonnet with a rotten front edge that could be easily modded like the concept picture... just thought it'd look phat and different...
