  3. Attempted to make the engine look a bit tidier. Sent a few bits out to be re-plated, still waiting a some stuff to come back. Painted block and a few other bits Removed sump, stripped and painted then threw back on With motor looking a bit better time for it to get back in the car Replaced some small stuff like leaky oil pressure sender and exhaust studs as old ones were shot. Still waiting on a few parts to reassemble the carbs. Mounted fan on radiator. Still need to get piping to plumb it in. Trial fit the rangi strut brace I hacked together and it looks to clear everything ok Start on wiring this week.

  4. amidoingitright? After a fair bit of fucking around, looks like I need to shorten the shocks which is a pain. Got to pay the cost to be the boss though. Managed to fuck one of my sleeves so waiting for another to arrive then I can mock up both sides and check the height again. And I think my springs are waaaaaaaaaay to stiff, there is pratically no droop (they are 5.5 kg/mm). Might grab some closer to 3 kg/mm //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33955-beavers-wuntwennywhy-coupe/page-23

  5. Have been doing alot of rust repairing and prepping for the flare. Tidied up the ends of the sill, the under skin, cut to suit, gave as much clearance underneath as possible An age was spent cutting and welding, and re cutting and re welding. Turning this shit... into this.. Makes it worthwhile but still not 100% happy with it

  6. Bit more progress from the last couple of weeks I have put the Holley fuel pump and regulator that I got for the rotary in, I also made up some new 3/8" lines which were a complete nightmare. I had some braided hose to finish off to the regulator but with the crossflow exhaust on it got a bit close so I made up a new hard line to run down the firewall. A while back I also bought one of those 'one size fits all' driveshaft loops off trade-me only it didn't fit, so after chopping and changing almost every piece I ended up with this the plate that extends along the side is to protect the brake and fuel lines that run through the tunnel, anyway to get it to fit meant unbolting the exhaust from the head and I managed to snap off one of the bolts in the process. So that was a pretty good end to the day! on the bright side it isn't a blind hole so drilling it out shouldn't be too difficult. I think I will pull the motor out to do it though. I have finished up the mount for my pedal box now, I added some steel to it to tie in with the mount holes at the top of the firewall to give it a bit more strength and got some banjo fittings to get the hoses out, it all fits pretty good in the end. And the last job was fitting a new accelerator pedal which is done but I didn't get any pictures of it, I used a pedal assembly that I had lying around, I have no idea what it came off, a Toyota or something I think, I got it off trade-me thinking that it might be useful and with a bit of time spent bending it to get it sitting about right it looks like it will do the trick. The only real problem with getting it in was what I found when taking out the old one, I guess when the crossflow went in someone decided that smashing a hole in the firewall was the best way to get the cable through and this had let the water in and rusted out. initially I had hoped to get away with a small patch but the more I cut out the more rust I found so I have ended up replacing a bit of the drip rail as well. All the new steel is welded in now so a bit of grinding and it should be good as new. I will try and get some more pics after work today.

  7. Steering box fits! The mounting kit didn't locate the steering box in the correct place for my setup. Angle grinder fixed the problem. Tig'd the plates to the chassis. Got it back on the ground, on the new wheels. starting to look a little less farmer spec \ Had to remove the wheel spacers on the rear! They went all out and used spring washers. These are all off one side Need to remove the radiator, to finish some welding and make a bracket for the ps pump. then should be able to take it for a test run

  8. The weather first thing in the morning was yuck so I got my Swandri out of the fridge and went to Tomisa's to eat his sausage. Brad's tail lights didn't work so failed scrutineering. I was given a warning about my fire extinguisher not having enough straps. Dave needed to get some tyres with grooves swapped onto his rims. Qualifying seemed to go on for hours so there was only time for two races before lunch but by then it'd stopped raining. Dave's car ran like a sack of dicks so he tinkered with it. I ate more sausages. Dave and I finally got our first race in at about 2 pm. The Peugeot ran lushly. It was the first time I took it on a track since 2009 and since putting in the new engine and coilovers so was pretty pleased for its first outing. Did 1:31s - two seconds slower than the Clio. Dave did 1:34s I think with the Lotus running like shit. Would trade again. We're going to have Ferrari dual sprints next year.

  10. Tis some bloody good ideas above - cheers all. I will certainly go about asking for steel wire when time comes. Must line up and keep two appropriate trees intact! KK- here is a picture I drew a few months ago for Hannah's nana in the UK. Doesn't show the whole lot but gives you an idea of what we want to do. Shed to be ordered is now going to be 7.7 wide by 15 long and 4.5 high with a mezzanine down one side. I cant wait!

  12. Jealous, bird life is so cool. Even if you dislike the wood chickens, their massive swooping and flight noise in and around the bush is awesome, you can always tell when one is near. Keen to see some NZ Falcons up close, I've witnessed from afar. Most birds of prey are just amazeballs. Someone needs to bring back a Haast eagle using DNA science magic wizardry. Bush robins although perhaps tedious are also a favourite of mine, as are the all too familiar fantails, though apparently bad luck I've had a completely black one follow me around the bush once, it was awesomesauce. The bush is cool. I think I'll recluse once I've had it up to there with society.

  14. Long time coming, but, more updates! Wheels are now fitted, I have extractors and a 12G940 cylinder head on the way, some new problems have been identified and some more little issues have been fixed. In the last month I have bought: Lumenition HT leads Battery Cooper S studs K&N filter New Lucas alternator Extractors 12G head (negotiating) Chrome trim strips Been plodding away slowly, current alternator is on its last legs so that'll be replaced tomorrow morning (y) Here's what I've been up to the last few weekends: Battery was stuffed due to a failing alternator, so out it came, and in went the new: Minispares order First up, filter, new vs. old Leads were next, discovered my dizzy cap had been loose and my no.2 plug had also loosened about 3 turns too :/ Old earth cable was removed, and replaced: Removed all my old electric fan loom: Also got the carb apart, gave it a clean and look over, replaced the oil in the dashpot with lighter genuine SU oil and drove it around for a week, until today, where the drums and wheels were finally fitted Big thanks to Glenn Lawrence for his time and the use of his workshop space. Few issues have been found, pretty much all the wheel bearings need to be done at some stage and the left rear arm has play, so will need to be kitted. CV's are also completely knackered. Anyway, pressing on with far more fun stuff New drums: One on All on! It was then off home for a good clean before a thrash over Three Mile Hill, what a difference they've made to the handling never mind the looks! Needing flares unfortunately So stoked with it

  17. The plan right now is to avoid my usual getting carried away and just get it legal... Which means cert. Its so close I can taste it. Paint wise I'll be sticking with the yellow OR going satin black. Provably a really bad yellow job tho. I'd like to get some paint colour matched and just spray over the shit bits as they are "fixed"... She will be a 50m job. Be cool to retain the pinstripe down the side and maybe later get some louvres punched in two rows down the middle of the bonnet. If I ever finish my ls that will go into this.

  18. WB utes look boss I reckon - HQ's look tough too but WB's just seem to have a bit of an air of late 80's, early 90's Aussie Street Machine yuck that is sort of disgustingly awesome You need to put Convo Pros or colour coded Simmons on it and give it a lush paint job with some epic graphics!

  22. Spent a few hours on the van yesterday. Decided I did not want the LPG fitted, so proceeded to remove it all. Only took a couple of hours to get everything out. Discovered the tank was full,(it was damn heavy!) and as I dropped it out on the ground the back of the van jumped up, must be a good 30mm higher in the rear now, sits level instead of bum down

  27. Lots of birds on and around our area and Im becoming quite a twitcher. Ive always liked birds and even had a pet hawk I looked after for a while when young. Pretty much all birds are cool in my book (except Ducks! = rats with wings- death to all of them!) Anyway - we have spotted a Kea flying over a few times and heard it heaps. Our neighbour has seen it plenty on his land. Then on Saturday another fella from next valley over and he knows this Kea well. He calls it John Kea... This guy has been a victim of all Johns peskyness. John was booted out along with several other adolescents from a colony near Canaan downs. Its apparently what happens when they become teenagers. They then started became a nuisance over at Kaiteriteri campsite a few years back and Doc caught them all except John. He was too smart. He was also the ring leader so when the next bunch get kicked out of home he will no doubt lead them astray. In the meantime for a past year or two he has been wreaking many things at various properties including outdoor furniture, car rubbers, tractor seats etc etc. Has been spotted hopping his way happily into our neighbours living room. I like Keas but Im not looking forward to when he or his motley crew discovers our place. Our immediate neighbour said that there has been a pair of Falcons up the back of our block for quite some time. Ive not spotted them or heard them yet. Again I like them and a few years back went with mum up the Waihopi valley in Marlborough to see some get released. Beautiful birds! It'll be awesome if they are on or near our land. Last weekend we had 8 big fat juicy woodpigeons parked up in a Lucerne (sp?) tree above the dunny. Never really been much of a fan but now after watching them from the veranda as they interact with each other and do really fast swooping turns as they taunt Kevin I reckon they are cool. Yesterday morning one came straight at us then quickly landed on the veranda roof right above us with its tail and fluffy bum overhanging. I think Kevin almost had a heart attack! I think he couldn't believe how close it was! Funny watching him watch the pigeon..he was quivering like a dog waiting for its food with excitement. He tries to sneak up on them as they feed in the tree. Silly boy. One very white fluffy cat that has had all the wild hunting instincts breed out....."not a chance" the pigeons laugh. Heaps of Tuis and Bellbirds which is always awesome. Will get more in when I make some feeders but not until we are out there. Also quite a lot of Grey Warblers which to me have a sweet summery song. A lovely Kingfisher keeps landing on the powerline which is cool thing to see. Had not seen one in years. Best thing though which we are both stoked about (as is Kevin no doubt)- we have Quails!!! Hannah spotted two last weekend and then some more this afternoon. So cool- Im really hoping we will get some small ones as baby Quails are quite possibly the cutest baby birds ever. So other than clearing more old gorse and also finishing the stormwater drainage to the culvert for the shed we spent much of the, thank fully sunny, weekend chilling out watching birds.

  28. Couple more pics New accelerator pedal And here is one of the other car when we left Chch loaded up on the transporter, it looked pretty sweet with the mismatched door and shitty body with the good wheels I thought. and how it is sitting now looking decidedly neglected.....

  30. So its been running a 2.8 diesel for years- the fuel tank is old and everything's yuck. It also was using a fuel cell at one stage meaning there are mounts under the tray at the rear. To make things nice and easy I got the alloy fuel cell from another guy here and just need to make some hoops to hang it. Im Praying it doesn't hang too low as the alloy won't handle much contact with the road. And Daniel at Bunce auto in auk is EXCRLLENT and has a new rotor on the way to me. Finding chev account delco shit here is bloody hard

  31. So I left home at 9am on sat and picked up vk327 and his flatmate and then threeonthetree, collected the ute then hauled it home. Lots of drinking and crawling around the thing happened but ultimately she wasn't fired up because of a missing rotor in the hei dizzy. Doh! She came with a terrible wildcat wheel but I happened to have another hanging in the shed that I purchased just because hoarder. Neal threw that on but in hindsight with no power steering its probably a bit small. (Man I want that nardi) The engines a pretty fresh smallblock 350 with refurbished 600 holley carb, nice flash intake manifold and unknown cam. The motors cleaner on the inside than the outside! There are old pacemaker headers that need plumbing to an exhaust And it came with the correct new & fancy looking throttle and kickdown cables. Threw the throttle cable on tonight. According to the block numbers its likely a four bolt mains and the heads are smoggy but have had the ports blocked. Google says these are pretty good as far as smog heads go and compression should be reasonable. There's a fancy Gilly drive with polished alt and weiand pump for additional wank. She came with two good radiators. There is a good big aluminium one with outlets to suit the chev PLUS a damn good condition 308 HQ radiator that I need to sell (pm me) I bought a set of AU fans off Trademe as I heard they fit the HQ radiators but they do need a bit of modifying. I'm getting there.

  33. Port work is doodiddlydone...I hope.. Sending engine bits to engineers tomorrow for acid dip, valve shim adjustment for new cams & head/block skim. Dont mind the old poos cams Left it with a rough but smooth finish to help with reducing pooling, increasing airflow. Not sure where I got my other idea from, perhaps some late night/half asleep researching.. Scored another pair of tyres and popped on another ada Yeah..thats about it, been slow going mostly tied up with rebuilding a friends w58/work etc.

  39. 2inch. If its in an escort your limited to size of muffler that can fit under body but 1x resonator mid by tunnel and 1x muffler at rear is what Ive usually run. I used a turboflow type muff in the rear of one setup and it was nice, not teenage loud but not quiet either. Gaz

  40. Shit this build is going slow! compaired to last time anyway. Ball is still rolling tho, I feel like im real dragging the chain and but Dannys dominating it ...............agian Got some prime-hole on my tank, Tanks to Chris other tank and bits are for chris's hog Put the new foot pegs on, had to modify the hangers, worked out all good, apart from one flaw that i fuct up on - keen motorcycles will spot Think they look oright, not sure if Im just steering at them and not totally all bout them or once its all done, mounts are black, and youll hardly notice them Lowered the rear and front abit more, the rear is at 60mm on the shock and front is 110 in this photo, Im think bang on 100mm will level out the tank and frame nicely and Im happy with that for swing arm levelness haha once i sit on it itll be sweet Head light brackets on, this headlight came with the bike, its not factory, i kinda like it but the bottom of the front surround is totally rusted out, so have to look out for a new one Top view of foot pegs, Dannys hog is looking pretty much finished....looking anyway. He peiced it together the other night and rode it After something like 3 weeks of wiring, cut extend remove and remount, the thing still fires up, with out catching on fire which is nice Ride that hog That is all
