  1. Well, it's the end of an era. she drove out of my life in a haze of smoke and a howl like a semi truck. Cant keep them all, would gladly do so but im sick of being poor. Dane has wanted it for ever so when I decided to cut it loose he was top of the list. Look forward to seeing what you do with it (wide steels?!) and how much of your sedan you borrow to flash it up!

  2. In, and John VB + our friend BJ will be tagging along on mc21/nc23 Hondas if the weather is fine. We'll be going up in the morning via Middlemarch so I guess just meet in Ranfurly. Dane if you wanted to catch a ride with me in the Crown you are welcome to, I was planning on spending more time in the Ida Valley think I'll just make this one a day trip

  3. Got some gib this morning, thought I might get a bit on.. the ceiling had other ideas. Spent the whole day and most of the evening trying to straighten it, fuck me it's bad. Had to do a fair few cut and wedge to get the bows out, and a shit ton of planning. Some of it was about 20mm out over 2m.. kinda got there in the end, got sick of looking up and planning.. luckily it's only a 2.4 stud so I could do it without a ladder This was one of the worst areas, should have taken a before shot.. First sheet on about 7pm .. bro in law was like 'get a lifter, resisted for a bit before I caved.. fuck they make it easy. Finished about 930.. would have been faster, but the ceiling says no.. Now this really is a milestone, first time since about June '11.. bit of a christening.. Hopefully by this time tomorrow we'll have all the gib up.. then onto the cladding, super fun times..

  4. Got just a few flanges laser cut. Got most of the exhaust tacked together. Couldn't pull out the part with the resonators so they're going to need a couple more flanges welded on either side. Looks so good though! Will it need any flexi's up the front? I'm thinking it will be mounted at the front of the resonators and at the back where the shock mounting bar is with some quite stiff rubber mounts. A package finally arrived from America. New floor panels!

  5. So the por 15 stuff works damn good(even if I spilt some) - I think I left it in for nearly 2 hours total and it looks pretty good now. I have to say I was a bit skeptical at the start with the electrolysis, and had mixed feelings about the por 15 too. I never expected the tank to come up this clean after seeing the shit that came out of it. Dont use the emergency gas caps kids, and if your one leaks chances are water can get in and cause sadness

  7. Heard back from machine shop this arvo, ring gap was way too big, and block is worn around 4 thou (I could feel a slight lip and expected as much) so they recommend reboring to 40 thou over, new pistons and bearings. I thought 0.030” over was about max for a thin-walled sbf, but apparently going + 0.040” is ok for a street motor. Plus it is only 0.005” (0.127m) larger each side than what it is now which puts it in perspective. Gave them the go-ahead to proceed, and I’ll drop off the gasket kit I already have to lower cost a smidgeon. If it wasn’t the original block I may have looked at other options, but the matching numbers thing makes decision easier, plus it’ll be nice to bolt everything up knowing it should be sweet underneath. Just more $$$ I’ll have to explain to wifey, who is losing her tolerance… Did some maths, and this will take it out to a 308 Ford, which will be a talking point I s'pose...

  11. Lol, so oil pump has turned up, bought via rock autos. look at box, oh yeah, some sort of brand. Open box, well well, what have we got here, genuine Aisin oil pump with the Toyota symbol ground off haha. Score in my books. Now I just hope it fits, as its for a cressida and all Anyway, not sure when thats going to make it into the car. busy this weekend, possibly busy the weekend after. and somewhere is nats and then I'm away the weekend after nats also. Such a busy time. Plus I need to get other crown on a hoist to do exhaust, So, kinda stuck in between both, as they both need to get on a hoist really. Not keen for removing sumps on the ground haha. Anyway heres some pictures of the turd. Seedy Al

  12. So gearbag got back into the car today, still a few things to sort out under there, but atleast the cunty part of trying to install a heavy gearbox under a car on axle stands by your self is done and dusted. So tomorrow it might be driveable again, however, there are some other jobs that really need to be done also. One is to swap out the very noisy fuel pump. Not sure its because its a cheap item, or because I possibly didnt prime it correctly when I first started it, but either way, it sounds like there is a coffee grinder going constantly under the car. kinda gay! and want to change the spark plugs, because I didnt ages ago, and it seemed a bit missy. once those are done, its dash and exhaust time. Pics of some crap. Front Bearing all swapped over. Helicoiled selector thread. And two very different clutch forks. The more I look at the difference in these, the more I can only feel this is why I have had so much issue with clutches in this thing so far. Correct fork is longer at both ends, which probably means my release bearing has been acting a bit funny on the pressure plate. Hopefully no more! Rad and stuff

  13. Project discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/55789-corona_man-1979-toyota-ke30/ I thought I'd start a build thread on the recently purchased Ke30 Corolla I have just purchased. I'm off work at the moment so am going to try and restore it back to original condition within a month. The car is in pretty.good condition, has minimal rust in it , but the 4k motor is stuffed. I will just be putting back in a 3k or 4k motor. Interior is a bit old, no carpet and seats are ripped up. I will be doing all the work myself, panel and paint, engine work, re upolstry, the lot. I will keep up regular updates if anyone is even interested in it. Here's a picture of it as is

  14. WHEELS ON WINDSOR MARCH 12TH 2017 Wheels on Windsor was a huge success in 2016 now let's see what we can do in 2017. Sunday 12th March 2017 Book your accommodation NOW. In 2017, WOW is on the last day of the Horse of the Year Show in Hastings. Come to sunny Hastings, make a weekend of it. Windsor Park is the perfect place to hold a car show. Plenty of trees for shade, plenty of sunshine to show off your car, good coffee and food available for purchase and a huge amount of prizes to be won throughout the day. Last year attracted somewhere around 400 cars of all various makes and models. New and old (mostly old). Hosted by Hawke's Bay British and European Car Club - previous year's photos on their website. Only a $5 entry fee which goes to a good cause.

  17. SO picked up a spare pair of axles, chucked them in this evening and re measured. Drivers side has gone from 0.50mm to 0.10mm and the passengers from 0.40mm to 0.10mm hopefully that's going to help. I was 5 beers deep at the time i finished so decided to test drive tomorrow. I will report back!

  18. have updated the above post and the event page, after realising it wasn't really much of a place 10 or so cars could congregate. meet down John Street outside the local Bowls Club. bring $10 for green fees and we could add another activity to the day's events. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/55612-old-school-deep-south-meat-ranfurly-st-bathans-march-19/

  20. I can confirm the line of sight thing is true, I had the tank "tide mark" side lowest and the anode was above the baffles I'm a bit over it today and have started the por15 kit hence the bubbles. Fingers crossed it'll work like it should but knowing my luck it probably wont. I'm leaving the everything in for more than the recommended time. I guess I'll find out later

  26. Been a while... The car has been sitting in the garage for the last 2 years or something not doing much. I have been slowly hoarding away parts and with our first baby on the way decided it's time to get motivated and do some stuff with it.. I got these wheels from another member up North ages ago, they're supposed to be from a formula ford or something. I've had them stripped, powder coated and fitted up with 175/60 A539. I had bought a set of MK1 struts converted to coilover ages ago but as my car already had a MK2 front end and I had a spare set of MK2 struts I sold the MK1 struts and Chris from suspension tech in Pukekohe built up my MK2 struts. This is the finished result of new wheels plus struts.. (this was taken a couple years ago pre coilover) and now.. I'm super stoked on how the car is coming along.. I've been planning this in my head for the last 10 years almost! The next step is go for a WOF, hopefully it will pass at the local shop out here in Waipara but I'm not overly optimistic with the lack of cert for coilovers.

  29. Small update. Massive thanks to old man KY for sending up a camshaft (thats not in two bits). Whacked that in and chucked the belt back on, engine turns over by hand with no odd noises or oddities (such as sudden loss in compression) which is a good start. I was hoping to compression test it but turns out its not really practical to do out of the car (cant bolt up starter etc without bell housing). Although might see if I can find a rb bellhousing for a loan as it will likely bolt up. Recent trip to Japan sourced a few goodies (crystal shifter, lace seat covers, stickers etc), and got my pine back on for some nice wheels so spent last night browsing yahoo japan. Also found a mooneyes visor haha https://wing-auctions.c.yimg.jp/sim?furl=auctions.c.yimg.jp/images.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/image/dr000/auc0212/users/7/0/8/5/mackys_1-img383x263-14818565326td6al22809.jpg&dc=1&sr.fs=20000 Need wof for nats so thats the primary goal (booked in for next weekend). Have done some work already that needed sorting so shoudl be straight forward.

  30. And once again, I've started a small job that has grown. Pulled the passenger side out, bit more difficult as it's against the wall in the shed and I've got to wriggle into position (usually forgetting the important tool). More shock bolts sheared off, plus much hammering to get ball joints/tie rods out, more piles of muck to scrape off and tricky rivets to drill out, but got to a stage where I've got two piles of parts roughly cleaned... and a whole lot of bits to toss... Have ordered new brake pads & wheel bearings as well, plus brake shield gaskets and new grease caps (a surprising $5 delivery from a Mercury speciallist in th' States). I probably should remove the calipers and clean them up/replace seals etc while I'm at it but I may replace all brake lines later on so will do it then. Thought I'd try my blast cabinet with the new compressor (last one was painfully asthmatic/slow) so wrapped all engine parts in gladwrap and sealed in box before making things dusty... And it worked ok, still slowish but much better air delivery. I can't see myself hunched over for hours doing the control arms etc tho, so will prob get these professionally blasted... So aiming to press old bushings out and get parts blasted this week, ready for painting over the weekend. Then it's the fun stage, assembly. Will finish with pic of my apprentice - he's bloody useless. Gets covered in oil, chews stuff, widdles in the shop, scatters tools and generally gets in the way. Still good company tho...

  32. Right so first stop at birkenhead head at 11.00. I'm going to get my bbq to Neals shed this week. Expect pm in your box. Going to ask for 10 bucks from all to pay for meat and brews at the bbq. Hosts. Can we please have addresses. One rule suggested is take a crap befor you leave home. Don't bomb hosts facilities and Neal has No facilities to use.

  38. A bit quiet here Scored some Nissan stainless monsoon shields off yahoo which I am stoked with. Had the diff out to narrow a wee bit to fit the 9's better, props to Halcrow engineering, excellent work and a 2 day turn around. Had 15mm cut off each axle, enough spline so no need for cutting and welding it. Also replaced the wheel bearings and all the leaf spring bushes while there. Old New

  39. I bet you could use electrolysis! Fill it will water and tip it around so that there's no air and water fills it entirely, chuck in some washing soda, make the tank your cathode (negative) and suspend a steel anode (positive) carefully down the filler (it can't touch the tank) Double check the anode cathode thing so you don't make problems worse...But this should strip it to bare steel while you do NOTHING OH and use a laptop PSU or battery charger for juice. It's silent, easy, cheap and most importantly.. requires SFA actual manual labour

  40. So, around a year after I started, I've pulled the guts out of her again. It was going ok, been using it a bit, but the puffs of smoke and red puddles were embarrassing, so I'm gonna hopefully fix those properly. Since I've got most of the gear and done all the painting etc it shouldn't be too much of a mission. (I was sooo close to putting a 5-speed box in though, just can't justify the hassle/expense). Plan is to strip engine and get block checked, and put her back together all tight and perky... Also gonna fit lowered springs and have ordered a set of rubber suspension bushes and larger sway bar to tidy up the wallowy front end. Bit of a bugger redoing a lot of this work, but I took the gamble last time, and at least I've got a garage buddy to keep me company... meet Jagger, the 9 wk old Border Collie, great wee bloke - already knows to sit there out of the way while I cock things up, bleed and swear...

  42. So, I sold this about a year ago, i was getting sick of fixing rust every six months and diesel rego was nearly $600 a year. I thought a cool camper trailer would be a suitable substitute. Ahh, nope. After a 4000km roady, the family consensus was - we miss the van I also missed the van and have a watchlist full of stuff, but then this popped up about $3k under the usual asking price and close to work so went and had a look and now its mine ours 2003 Nissan E25 Caravan, LWB. High Roof, KA24DE (petrol 2.4l 16v DOHC) + 4AT , 220km ex-rental goods van (no seats no sliding windows) Its got a few dents and scratches, but engine runs like a top and ITS NOT RUSTY much

  43. Well after a super fun day at the OS Christmas Drags It has become apparent unless I get some more Traction and Sort my tune out I ain't going to get down that Quarter any Faster than 13.7 So I am now looking for a slightly wider Pair of 15 inch front wheels to put on for Drag days (maybe track days too) And have a little more smoothing out to do on my "Race tune" as Launch Control was not allowing any boost to build so car had no power untill late in Second Gear / Third. and the Tune without launch control left me wheel spinning the whole way thru third with Tyres deflated to 20psi warm To Contrast 13.756 @ 108mph with Crappy Launch Control Tune and tyres at 28psi cold vs 13.743 @ 107mph with No LC on the Tune and Wheel spinning thru third with tyres at 20psi Warm ^^ Annoying huh! The fact Its running 195/50R15 Road tyres probably doesn't help. the 60ft Time leaves alot to be desired for too. never managing to get it any quicker than 2.45... Other than that fricken love dailying the Car. I tend to down tune it to the less aggressive map other wise she becomes a hand full in the wet -------------------------------------------------------------- On the plus side I have my cert plate fitted to the car now (Thanks Cletus) now I can get my Car insured

  44. Decided to refit / reinstate the Rear Bias Valve back in to the mix, I didn't like the Fixed "Screw down" version I had before hand and I had to sort out my lines on the rear axle.. they were pretty huckery and didn't like staying in their retaining clips. Also got the rear wheel bearings a little tighter while I was attacking the rear. Will have to yank engine back out this week to fit the Lock washers to the engine mounts. and sort out any other niggles while I'm there... It hasn't been great not having a Hoist any more so I have had to revert to using some more Archaic Methods to lift the car off the ground so here hoping to be all right and ready for the OS Drag day this year.. Missed last year

  45. Well its been running, exceptionally well. Datalogging has proven difficult. its proving a little difficult to find quiet places left in Auckland you can really bury your foot. Started the ball rolling with the Cert Process too Cheers Clint!. Few nigglys holding the car back but I smashed thru most the check list last night! Its a pretty fun car to drive in the Dry. in the wet it is nightmarish with the Race / Drag Tune flashed on. The "Low" Map is far more suitable for the daily drive around the place! Heat Sheilding & Latermodel Topmounts and Top hats that look better and aren't so "Gappy" haha

  46. Kids birthday over the weekend so after putting up with half a dozen yelling 7yr old girls on a sleepover (why are they always shouting?) I sought refuge in the shed. Goodbye blue rocker covers... The cork gaskets had stuck fairly well in the short time they'd been on, but popped off ok, and it looked clean enough inside... Apart from a few little bits of black goo. Whatever it was was soft - hoping this is assembly lube remnants...? And side 1 done/new PCV valve installed... Doesn't look too bad I suppose, the big blue frying pan dominates things... And a bit of tidying up to do yet. waiting on black lead clamps and new breather cap in the mail...
