  1. Maybe it's so slow because the back wheels are on backwards. They've still got 40,000 km of inertia in the other direction stored in them.

  2. Should delete that exhaust and get a wideband on it, check timing, new plugs, check air filter, then get a supra.

  3. I'm still loving the general shape of this car and the nice attention to the build. But those wheels...arrgghhhhh. Damn they are so fucking ugly! All I see happening is...

  4. We finally got a nice, dry day in Auckland so I booked it back in for its retest. Couldn't be bothered waiting for the 334488 plate - they said I might get it Tuesday if I'm lucky - so just got a standard issue one for now. There seem to be heaps of second hand Japanese flat decks coming in from Australia. And this thing. A bunch of brown Clios For Spenno It seems really down on power so will have a closer look tomorrow. Runs smoothly so hopefully it's something simple like a sensor playing up or blocked cats.

  7. but anyway... you have now got me thinking more about those LS converted FD's. they have lower axle ratio but with the slippary FD shape one could have a when needed neatly economical cruiser and wickedly powerful rx7 that also sounds good! oh...and reliable...

  9. this thread is so racist, what about the jews? anyway, inspired by this thread, i did some experimentation. BF falcon with 285km on it. my usual figures according to the trip meter are 13l/100km if i dont touch it for a while, my average speed is 33kph. i did a run down the motorway from new lynn to papakura, 80-90kph driving with feather boots and putting it in neutral when coasting or going downhill. hit the reset button getting on and off the motorway, 7.3l/100km drove from papakura to pukekohe, normal motorway driving not paying any attention to economy, 105-110kph, 8.6l/100km drove from pukekohe- highbrook. tried pulse-glide thing, going between 95-110, got annoyed at that and followed a truck as close as safe, neutral down hill or when slowing, 90-95 behind the truck. that got down to 6.3l/100km.

  10. I have my hilux diff getting the rx2 brackets welded on at the moment and then I will have the axles re splined and cut. I'm having to re drill the hub 4x110 as well as the new s5 rx7 brakes and have the hub centre turned down on a lathe so I can fit and locate my Simmons. Bosch 044 fuel pump purchased the other day too. Arches done inner and outer - just needs to be tidied up and painted in the similar colour to the body. Plates are all skimmed and now I have to have the rotating assembly balanced AGAIN due to the new rotors.... Struts ready in a couple of weeks and I hope to have it rolling as soon as I get the shell back.

  11. Hey guys ! Again another slow update lol . Gee Wizz this year has gone quickly !! Unfortunately this year my partner n I are saving for a house so any progress on car has become rather slow Cars been running like a dream had an awesome time at the kemeu hotrod show last year even tho it was a hotrod show old school still got a lot of love ! Only photo I took Car didnt get used alot of new year period I spent it over in the gold Coast n bloody loved it all going well will be moving over next year to have a Crack anyway .. I decided I wanted some more power out of the car so started hunting down someone with an 18rgeu to take the efi bits off . After searching on a lot of forums I finally reached a guy in Aussie and came to an agreement so off they were sent Couple weeks later it turns up !! So I begin to label so I'd remember how to put it back together n had it taken to get acid dipped. All clean ! Brought some 460cc rx7 single feed injectors After some research I found the sr20det echaust manifold was literally 2-3mm out from the 18rg exhaust flange so brought a sr20det turbo manifold n t28 turbo... Will cut the sr20det flange off and weld a 18rg flange onto it . Auto bend sell the flanges in steel for $88 bucks. Turbo has no play but will get it looked at by a professional n rebuild it If needed. Still a few more bits needed . Link g4 atom ecu . Fuel lines suitable for e95 all the turbo plumbing etc will be slow but there's no rush ... cars off the road n rego is back on hold I had an awesome time down at old school nationals and was so fun meeting you all !! Car ran beautifully expect for battery moving and positive shorting out on radiator Lucky next to no damage just a burnt earth wire phew How engine bay currently sitting OS Nats photos ANAND +! Was fully not expecting this but the old girl won best sedan so thanks everyone Lil things like this make it all worth it Was an awesome weekend . Bit of a struggle to move around due to a work accident a couple weeks prior Haha nothing a few beers couldn't fix chur Thanks for looking

  12. The "black glue gunk" you're looking for is urethane sealer, you'll need to clean all of any sealer that isn't urethane off of both the screen and the aperture, trim the urethane that is left down to about 1 or 2mm thick on both the screen and glass, if you've got no urethane left on either peice then you'll need to prime them with a pinchweld primer. if the aperture doesnt have blocks for the screen to sit on (so that it doesn't compress the sealer and sit right down to the aperture) you'll need to apply a foam tape around the aperture, you only want it to around 3mm wide and high or so. apply the tape around the inside edge of the aperture, you should be able to see where it has been before. clean the urethane with water only, solvents will absorb in. you then want to cut your a v into your sealer nozzle about 1/2" high so that its easy to make the bead a uniform height apply a bead of urethane right around the aperture, about as wide as the existing urethane, making sure there's no gaps etc carefully put the glass into place, try to get it centred first time as you don't want to take it out again, dont slap on it or anything just give it a light press into the sealer untill it sits level reinstall the moulding around the edge assuming its a rubber t shape? leave a window open until the urethane is set so that you dont create pressure inside the car and push it out hope that helps

  13. Did a bit more on this.. Used a shit load of stripper on one door, shit just doesn't wanna come off.. Turns to sludge.. Got there in the end, sort of.. This hole randomly appeared in both sides, it's crazy, can look right through.. Did a bit more digging around ga smiths work.. It's ugly but it does the job and there's no rust, if the window was out I'd lead it, just have to settle for bog.. I remember this punch hole from when they fixed it, so much for welding a patch in, cunts.. When they put the window back in they just over filled everything with urethane, Which resulted in this, Just surface shit, but again, professionals. Anyway, I've dug out all the excess sealant from around the windows so I can clean it all up.. stripped the sills and took a peek inside and they're clean as a whistle which is good..

  15. long time no thread.. had the inspector around today and he said this shit's legit, compliance cert on the way! so first things first, thanks to all you GCs who pitched in on this, some from OS and some not. you all flat out refused payment, so i owe ya bigtime. I was packing my undies this morning, being a house rookie. then the inspector walked up the driveway with his father christmas beard, introduced himself as Barry, and i thought sheeeeit haha and he was all good - comments included 'put the bloody smoke alarm up', 'its different', 'i did the one down the road', and 'waste of a good drill press for the letterbox' so here are some pics of how it stands today, complete with unfinished stuff, dirty dishes and whatever.

  17. Ever since I was a pimply faced, 18 year old, screech, I've had a dream of getting a bmw into what is the worlds biggest bmw mag, Performance BMW UK. Fast forward through about 5 or 6 bmws later, and I flicked my build thread through to the mag, not expecting much. I almost shat myself with excitement when I got quite an enthused reply from the editor. The main problem she was worried with, was, who would do the photos? I excitingly replied, as I had just the guy. In steps our favourite krump dancing, banana spinning, camera snapping gentleman, Richy. On the day of the shoot, Richy boots me out of bed to get that golden shower of light out in Pohangina, and after some hatchback carting for the rolling shots by Waggy tail times, and some skids from Cam, we were complete. Thanks Richy, me ol' pal. Boy oh boy it took some time for the magazines to finally get here, but I tied my hands behind my back and resisted from downloading a copy, so that for the first time, I could turn the pages just like I imagined as a little shitbag. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/29495-sparkles-bmw-of-supermega-happy-hell-yes/

  18. Here is a before and after shot of the "banana" rx2 s3 cross member. These are desirable due to the fact they are for front mounted 12a engines. I'm running an old school 13b with a 12a front cover. After a wire wheel and rust etch. I will be painting it black along with the steering components soon. And a good mate gave me this K&N Carbon fibre intake to whack onto the quad throttle body intake we are working on. Think these are used on sprint cars.

  20. I bought a new toy. I've been looking for an RN30/40 for ages but I've been pretty fussy, with one of the harder conditions being that it needs a wellside. There are fuck all. Then this came up, I was like meh, extra cab, but bonus 4x4 tub and guards Plus it's got this!!! Plus it's engineered, and only cost me 3.5K. So fucking cheap. So I went to look, drove it, sounds amazing, bargained the price down a bit, then went home and organised the $ and picked it up last night. It's got a few things to sort, typical hilux rust, high beams are out, shit wiring job on the stereo etc, but it'll make a way better daily than the boring corona I'm retiring. Cheers Matt Discussion Thread

  21. Double sided tape (the black kind) will help you remove it in the future and cushion it from frame flex (not a problem in your car) but i only use that in the inner area, around that i use that window adhesive. That's how i do it. Other people might do differently.

  22. allowing budget of 5k. depends on how much the engine refresh is going to cost first. hopefully hone, rings, bearings, frost plugs, valve grind, head skim, gaskets/seals, carb kit etc I would expect the dizzy should be ok considering its ticked over 65k, will have it checked during refresh.

  23. You really want to make sure your original distributor isn't a worn out piece of shit before you kit it with some electronic gear. Best to go after market and get something you can adjust the advance "curve" with.

  24. Dizzy also got some attention in the form of a strip and clean, lube, and new points/condenser/rotor arm/cap etc. With the new leads and plugs the only excuses will be my careless reassembly....

  25. I actually thought I had Pete on my fuelly friends list bu the most recent top up was yours and I found it quite entertaining to throw up the comparison of the Colorado v. exotic, mostly because it makes no sense. I will admit that I did think that was a pretty legit figure for a utility. I did enjoy my bosses old Colorado (and his newer ones) more than the Ranger & BT-50's that work gets.

  29. aaaand this thing now has a tail light. i made a guard up from the remains of a front one i had trimmed down a while ago and mounted to the seat base. slapped a nice small tail light on it and we're away. i put some standard spec bars on it, really dig the tracker look. much more comfortable to ride than the clubmans. might get a pair of lower rise bars for it. also finally got round to buying some main jets! will have a fiddle with the tuning once they get here for maximum gains

  35. Haven't had much luck with this car! I was on the way home from a Funeral in Putaruru yesterday and the wastegate pipe of my exhaust manifold cracked through and blew off on the Turangi side of the desert road. Somehow I managed to make it 180km without being pulled up by a cop, despite the car being horrendously loud as the exhaust manifold had a hole in it before the turbo! This also meant that I had next to no power, too. Foot to the floor in third going up hills and losing speed is amusing.

  36. Finally done something on the sedan after it just sitting there for awhile. managed to get the rear sitting about right. Ute diff is off getting mounts made up then can put that in. Once diff is in, then I can sort d/shaft. Should slowly have more progress on this.

  37. I now have the rhd windscreen wiper motor and arms from an rx2 to complete the conversion. I also picked up a new BNT clutch master $59 and a few more nolathane bushes for the front end. Now I have a full set of rx2 steelies that are going to get the sand blast treatment and a cheeky gunmetal powder coating. And because I need some serious help....I saw some cheap hotwires for sale so suffice to say I brought them. These are currently getting the wet and dry sanding treatment when I have a spare hour so should come up nice with a bit of time and effort. 13x7 4 x110 offset 0 You know I said I need help right....I saw a set of 14x7 in mazda 4 x 110 with lots of dish...they are now mine. I need a new set of 195/45/14 tyres but Toyo proxes are $170 ish. These are not to be mixed up with Chinese copies or cheap 13" ones. I've waited patiently for a set to come up of a long time. Still not 100% I will run them as I'm loving the hotwires.... Here is some inspiration Pulled the hubcaps out the other day...

  41. Here is one of my nos mazda 13b polished housings with some exhaust work done - I have a set. I bought these yesterday $60 and my mate has another 2 currently on his mazda 1000 so now I have a set. I was going to roll the 323 steelies but the rx2 steelies are just that much nicer. I have a new set of rx2 inner wheel centres to go with them and a full set of chrome dress rings also. Here is the Italian 48 Ida I traded for a rx2 rear garnish and $100us to a mate in LA. Result!!

  42. One of my most favourite things.....the old dealership light Here is a cheeky pc of the nos series 2 rx2 616 grille still in its.original sealed bag. It is a thing of beauty. I have these for the rear rust repairs....the sedan quarters share the same shape mostly as the coupe. This is the same for all the 2s 3s and 4s from what I can see. I pulled the back bumper out of the loft today and gave it a fool old rub down with some de greaser and autosol. Needs more of a buff so will attack it later.
