  1. Sun block and cold drinks are compulsory. Shit was so damn hot there! Stuck around for a few hours but when you can hear people's skin audibly crackling in the sun you know it's time to get out of there, haha.

  2. So the other night Gal and I built this. We both found it to be hilarious. But I needed one of my own... Luckily this cropped up on TM with giant 32" wheels. So I brought it, and made this! What a blast! @scooters

  4. Been a long time coming but Mags is finally back on the road! Took her for a quick spin round the block. Running with a bit more grunt than before and the new clutch was definitely a good call. The overheating issue is probably the next focus - the gauge shows H pretty early on, although we don't really know how accurate this is. We recently chucked in a new temperature sender - does anyone know the normal resistance range on the temperature sender for these cars (i.e. normal running temp resistance)? Will probably look at getting a new radiator at some stage too as has a bit of wear and there's room for a larger one which will definitely help things. Probably should grab a wof + reg too lel.

  5. I've been doing a few things to get the car running again. the wiring loom is hilarious in its fuckedness. Nick came over the other night and went through it and fixed a whole bunch of shit. there is still a bit to do to get the wiring sorted but its getting there, and its become apparent why it was difficult to get the starter to engage among other things. I'm going to hide most of the loom except for a small bit that goes under the radiator so its needs work anyway. so it now has brakes and a clutch again. I've attached a few bits and I've been cleaning and prepping other bits to go back on. oh, and Greg came over earlier tonight and fixed a couple of runs and polished them out. 2016-01-14_08-38-00 by sheepers, on Flickr

  6. Firstly I'll begin by saying I don't actually really play guitar. I've always had a great love for music and wanted to learn an instrument, and I did start playing guitar for a short while and also did piano for a brief period but never carried it on for some reason. One of the reasons may be that I never really had my own instrument to play. So recently I decided it was time I learn so I spoke to my friend who has been playing for years and he kindly donated this to me. I'm not sure on what the model is but I remember him saying it was a Yamaha and actually quite a decent one. Please excuse the rubbish photos. When he told me it was in pieces and needed to be put back together, being as I am I was quite happy about that and knew exactly what I was going to do. So the plan is now to repaint the body of it. I already have the color scheme in mind but I will keep that a secret for now. Someone has already started sanding the finish as can be seen here: I'm planning today to finish the sanding and spray the primer on so should have an update this evening. Hopefully this is of interest to some of you.

  8. I've said this before, but keep doing exactly what you're doing! Watching low HP cars battle against the big boys is awesome. One day you'll have 200hp and be able to stick it with the 1000hp boys in D1. You shall be known as Keiranhiro Ueo.

  9. Got the FJ20 mounted on the stand to clean it up and paint a few things. Tracked down a set of FJ into S12 mounts to borrow and copy, extremely rare it seems but should be easy enough to make. Also found a guy who has some powersteer and aircon brackets, hopefully get them soon!

  11. I was building a Ford Escort Mk1 gasser and documenting the build on here and on facebook, but a few things made me totally change direction. After spending a huge amount of time on the Escort chassis, I still wasn't happy with the compromise of it. That coupled with the amount of new (read bloody expensive) panels needed to make it as good as I wanted it made me lose a bit of interest. Total interest was lost when I started to build the engine and found a crack through one of the bores. So the shell/chassis and all of the engine parts were sold off (at quite a handsome profit I'd like to add), and I concentrated on my bike for a while. Then this popped up for sale. It's a 1938 Ford model 7Y (which is dimensionally and physically similar to a Ford Pop). It's very straight and solid and was bought complete. The nice stuff from the Escort build will find it's way to the 7Y, so it will still be 'Cheatin' The Reaper' - just a genetically modified version. It didn't take long to strip it down to just the body, leaving the chassis to be sold off along with the engine, gearbox, interior etc I designed a new chassis, made out of 75x40x3 steel box, which is at this stage at the moment: Front suspension is parallel leaf springs. I made the shackles & mounts: Then narrowed the drop-tube axle to suit: I found a nice and perfectly sized fuel tank on TradeMe and made the crossmember to suit. This is 75x40x3 box again, with 3mm gussets: I've bent up the hoops for the rollcage (no pics yet) and am just waiting for a nice full day to get the whole lot jigged up and welded together. Rear axle will hopefully be a Jag IRS. Engine will be Ford V8. Body will be chopped about 2.5" and front end will be fibreglass flip front. Keep checking either here or on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/mk1gasser/

  12. So now another crown has found its way into the shed. A 1969 Toyota Crown MS53 wags.last registered in 1996 and possibly the last time it ran. This came from the same place as HORNDOG's MS51 coupe. It has been sitting in a shed for quite awhile which has kept it in not to bad condition but the bottom of everything has rusted away, ie doors, sills, guards and tailgate.Tailgate has the worst of the rust but nothing that carnt be fixed. The car is 98% complete all chrome is there and is in relatively good nick .Just missing both front headlight bezels,'custom' badges and rear crown badges.Interior is all there ,factory black ,front seats are buckets with the usual wear and tear.Dash pad has a large bubble in it and the rear dickie seat works. So i trailered the old girl back home behind the 60series cruiser only for it to have a melt down on the way home. The alternator ratted loose and it spat some coolant out of somewere but no split hoses. After a helping hand from a local she was fixed and made it back with out any extra issues. Specs: reg on hold!!! factory 2M replaced with a 4M-U factory 4spd manual on the floor disc brake up front 5 seater with a 2 seater dickie seat in the rear electric tailgate window that still goes, and would go better than most 90s cars windows boot full of crown parts for ms60s 1973-1974 Got her home, chucked in a battery, checked the electric window to see if it still goes and score it works!!!!! Cleaned all the ignition system changed the seized carb over for another and put some gas in her and she fired up purring nicely, just some timing and tappets to adjust.Clutch needs bleeding to see if i can get it rolling under its own power, brakes also need some attention. So no real plans for this as of yet, just get it to drive and stop.Wouldnt mind taking it to the Rangiora car show at the start of the year. The ms65 will be finished first before the wags gets some love This is the parts container that is full of mostly crown 60series crown parts (theres a little left but i took most of it) a few rt80 corona bits,rx30 cressida parts, datsun 260c towbar, taillights and gasket set.these are all for sale and need to go Discuss here-----> //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/51148-toymotas-1969-ms53-crown-wags-discussion/

  16. I went to head up to my dads with this today to do some work on it. Got about 2km up the road and it just died. My roadside diagnosis was that the fuel pump wasn't working. Sure enough after getting it to dads and pulling it to bits the in-tank filter had a hole in it and the pump is seized So I'll have to track down another pump on monday, and I did none of the jobs that I had planned on doing at dads. Fucking Aussie Fords. I did know better than to buy it, but its too bloody cool.

  22. Left work early to cycle over to BNT to pick up the cylinders, no luck there, they were the wrong ones for manual adjusting brakes so I rushed home and worked some magic to just make it to VTNZ before 5... Pretty stoked to have the wof but still plenty of work to go, even though the brakes work i'll order in from Russia the correct cylinders just for piece of mind!

  27. I will see how its looking for space, worst case a grinder can make room. You could do similar to the RB but the machining would need to be done from scratch as the CA's require two off them in different configuration for some reason. Nick Murray in Australia has just turned up two -AN10 weld in fittings to be the same press fit as the original 25mm welch plug and offered me a pair (pic VvV) but I wasn't so keen as I think it needs a fixing plate like the RB one to hold it firm from rattling out. Would also only gain 5 odd mm in depth saving. Reducing swarf risk would be the main advantage. And another pic for no reason

  28. Good job guys, get yourself one of these http://www.jaycar.co.nz/Test-%26-Measurement/Thermometers/Non-Contact/Mini-Non-Contact-IR-IP67-Thermometer/p/QM7218 and check the temp at the thermostat housing and compare with the bottom of the Radiator to see what the actual temp is and how well the radiator is working.

  31. and hows its going to be rolling into vinz looking like. Shit I'm pretty not sure on this, its either going to be an epic win or epic fail. or a whale. biggest issue really is time, I'm now over a week behind my planned schedual due to issue with mount, and I need to get ripping into Nikis Austin as soon as I can, which is this weekend haha We will see. Also I silicone the tires because Bizzo told me to.

  32. Plan so far: Denham is busy welding up a new frame for the oldschool banner. I'll grab some rope for it too and then that's done. Poo has loaned us a huge marquee for the weekend. Matteybean is kindly providing us with a heap of fencing pigtails to borrow for the weekend so we can mark out a campsite on Thursday night; (Denham, Dylan (Piazzanoob), Zebra Dude and I will be there after work on Thursday). I'm filling up a gas bottle and have to collect some batteries from Kempy so we'll have some radio/aux input tunes all weekend. Zebra Dude's Cadillac has had the starter motor replaced and we're working on the fuel leaks. Fingers crossed it should be ready today! It's a big team effort but so far it's going well. Everyone is helping out like the champs they are. Should be a sweet weekend.

  34. Over the holidays I didn't get as much work done as I had hoped. A big Christmas and boxing day left my enthusiasm very low, as well as a decent new years for the first time in years, didn't help progress at all! (Dating game thread for info lol) Rafters up over Xmas/NY period. A few girts attached on the side and rear wall (can't do others until slab is poured) Purlins started on my last week of holidays. Not a bad view of the Tararua ranges. My mate the skylark? came to sing for me everyday (more likely attracting new lady friends). He thinks this new place is made just for him! I have now returned to work, so progress will be a lot slower!

  39. Disclaimer: this video may be faked. i took some time to polish my wiring loom. *Imagine a wiring loom made from copper tubing with wood insulators that was polished. This didn't last. Putting wire inside the tubing was ok for a while but when the wire gets damaged inside there's nothing i can do to fix it.*

  41. Shit long time no update. I still mess about with old bikes a quite a bit. here's a couple of photos of a bike that came to me under sad circumstances recently. It's a BSA Fittings, Speedy cycle. These were made in Christchurch by Speedy Cycles and are quite recognisable. I really like this bike, it's still in it's original finish even after 90 years. All Speedy cycles were Nickel plated and as far as I can tell heavily painted in red and green paint with what looks like white and black details. I have a feeling this style was sold like a GT bicycle rather than a racer. It's a bit battered, it has a bent frame, is very dirty, is missing it's correct rear wheel and hub, and the BSA chain adjusting cams are missing. I have everything to replace the missing parts and have started to strip the bike down to fix the frame and give it a good clean. Here's a couple of photos of a friends Track Speedy. BSA "Track" bridge. And the Speedy cycles chaps.

  42. Picked up the hammer and dolly set this week and have been slowly tapping away when I have time. Pulled the front bumper off to get at a small dent in the valance and noticed the damage is most likely from hitting a fence, there are gouges just the same size as fencing wire........ The front left guard has left me worried until I got the bumper off and realised this side has been punted in and with the help of a scissor jack i've pushed it out and the bulk of the bulge has gone, still a bit more fine tuning to get everything back where it should be but i'm now moderately hopeful I can save the guard, happy times! Actually quite like the front without the bumper, very boxy, stoked to be making progress, few more sessions and I'll have to decide what to do about replacing all the paint.... And hoping that I don't end up in the same place as Father Ted... Discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49397-nickjs-1989-lada-2105/

A chauffeur driving a pristine white wedding Rolls Royce even stopped to point Maggie out to the bride to be. Here's some eye candy to keep the thread alive. Chur
