  1. While I was in hospital some awesome mates decided to rebuild my bike for me. I had no idea at all that this was happening. This weekend at the Hanmer meet Jonny rode over on a sweet looking bike, I was very impressed. Before long I started to realise that the number plate and engine looked kind of familiar, sure enough it was my bike rebuilt. Looks and rides amazing, incredibly impressed. Thanks so much again to everyone that has helped out and contributed to the build, I really appreciate it and am stoked.

  2. For those of you that Know I have been on the look for a new work vehicle for a while now. The poor old Alfa must be getting near the end of its life with 255,000 kms on it . So the challenge was on to find a Vehicle that was up to the job hopefully Oldschool was first on the list. Next it needed be able to move stuff (cakes) with care and carry half a ton if needed . So I found this has a warrent , rego , rust and a rattly motor but it goes and road legal starts like dream from cold and the 1.3 power plant what more could you want . Had to have at least one photo of this great car has changed the way I look at an Alfa's with this many Km how can you fault them??????????????? More on the new Work Van I have these wheels sitting around and think they will suit this well While I had the wheel off I noticed 9 inch drums which is great but the plan is to keep it very standard with a little low and some wheels. Inside the back is in such good condition looks like it's hardly carried anything and rides that high as well. The guy I bought it off swore black and blue that it had 87,000 km. I'm not sold but there are some very good condition parts inside it. The urgent list has a new window rubber new floor pan fix the messy back door repair. And for looks wheels lowered Discussion Thread //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44953-shaneos-79-escort-work-van/

  4. The rear kitchen area is going to be for food prep and storage of plates, vegemite, gingernuts, English Breakfast tea etc. Beer storage will be in a trusty chillybin. Cooking will be on the WeberQ. I will check that height for you soon. A little bit more done. Glued the outer skin in place. Man that was fun. Got glue everywhere on my clothes. Let the glue set for 7 days before removing straps. Stole a doorlock off an old screen door I had laying around. Nice narrow mortice with small 30mm backset. Fitted the edges with ali right angle extrusion. Just a few jobs left, then will strip the bits off it to clear coat it.

  12. If you're driving down Bealey Ave / Papanui Road in Christchurch today my apologies for the huge trail of oil... The diff decided some parts were better off outside of it's casing. Not really sure what/why happened yet. It's strange though because it made a loud clunk (I assumed it was just Chch's roads) and continued driving fine but then I noticed the oil pressure light come on so stopped. Will have to take the motor out and split the block and gearbox. Luckily I have a spare gearbox but it's a pain

  15. New (second hand) starter plus adjustments to the supporting ring and it now engages perfectly. Car starts and runs on the base tune sweet as with some re scaling to suit the larger injectors. Here is a picture of how Friday morning looked, Its pretty good feeling to have this thing turn fuel into energy and noise considering the number of second hand, fabricated, and experimental parts which have been mashed together, Even simple stuff like the galant CAS into the Evo 4 head was an unknown, let alone the pistons which have the valve cut-outs opposite to the head, or the squillions of other random things which have found their way onto this machine .

  19. My Birthday present from myself to myself showed up today.. IMG_1237 by postlematt, on Flickr Got a bunch of stuff off ebay, did a bulk buy and the seller was good enough to combine shipping rather than charging me crazy shipping costs. he sent them as a "gift" and although the combined cost including shipping was probably slightly ove the threshold he put the value on the box at $97 and also put a birthday card in the box incase customs got nosy.. but like i said its a birthday present from myself to myself.. IMG_1238 by postlematt, on Flickr The card cracked me up, the guy seems like a genuine GC haha IMG_1239 by postlematt, on Flickr its mainly small mechanical parts, bushes and a few other bits and pieces IMG_1246 by postlematt, on Flickr ill do another big buy an a month or two and get all my rubber seals, weather strips, badges and other stuff that will go on after panel and paint.. he sells a lot of old toyota reproduction parts so if anyone wants to check out his ebay store and make purchase when i do to save on shipping then give me a PM and can sus something out. Cheers

  21. Auto locker installed These bearing shells came out of the swivel hubs, pretty tired! Got a high steer kit to replace the horrible factory setup. Stock stuff was pretty worn out, so its getting ditched while i'm under there. Front axle back in, everything has been replaced. just need to rebuild brake calipers and its good to go. High steer kit doesn't agree with factory suspension and sump. the black arm is just sitting there. will be hard up against sump when bolted on. Picked up some parts off a mate, ifs steering setup for the high steer, and turbo stuff off a surf, just for lol's Moved diff forward 30mm for more clearance. Mockery thread seems to be here : //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44791-kprs-84-chromelux-discussion/

  23. Was an awesome weekend as usual. cheers to all those involved with sorting it out and putting on such a good show. All that meat! wild bloody pork on a spit with apple sauce. Food rules my world and i was not let down Filled Viva up after weekend and given all the caning it got by many it was still stupidly cheap to run which means more money for food... First time Ive ever driven a Anglia and sitting in the century getting my back massaged while going for a spin was cool too. Hot pools always good and getting to watch a real life dinosaur leaving the pools was awesome.

  24. pressed in the lower control arm bushes and assembled top arms, dummied up the ball joints, bump stop and spindle to work out how much of the the spring i need to stay captive. have trimmed up a pair of springs to suit (have a couple of spare pairs if its too much off). next on the list is some new bolts for ball joints and clean up the bump stops, strip and paint the backing plates/drums and get the wheel bearings sorted then may be able to get it back on some wheels next weekend, have got some wheel dollies to put it on and then will cover it up and push it to one side things are going to get messy stripping back this cab and well side! Few boxes of all the new bits, starting to add up but it will be worth it

  25. Karl and organisers and Gophers all, THANK YOU. I had a great time, you guys and gals all rock. It's such a thing to have so many folk chillin', hangin' out in such a sweet location. Great to meet even more of the OS family. I haven't had such a great weekend for I can't remember how long (though my calorie counting leathers might). The bike ran like a charm, nice to see the team on the roads on the way through.

  28. Been a while haven't driven the car much with shifting and work . Went on a run up to the Pioneer and Packard museum with the chrome bumper guys . Seen this up north pretty cool Thought I would take the car for an early morning delivery to Matakana . Half way though clearing some space I found a flat Tyre and I was 6 beers in so no drive yet again. Flat tyre has been fixed just waiting for some nicer weather now . Been working though the space trying to everything to fit but a little tight compared to my last garage Have to get moving again on this soon as Gumboot Rally is looming and there is a list of jobs to be completed before then.

  31. Hi all. Seems that there is little interest in this due to most of the normal wgtn crew being in hamner this weekend. Grinter and I are gona go have a look at the hot rod show in Porirua, so both of us being from the J'vill region we're guna meet at the Johnsonville fire station at 11 (next to kfc) and head out from there. So if anybodys keen thats where we'll be. Prob just guna head to hot dog show, have a look about, maybe head out to Whitireia Park in Titahi bay for a cold one after..

  32. Guys I know we're not supposed to post here, but I've just taken this car into Zebra for wrecking, and basicly I don't want to wreck it. Anyone keen to come in and save it see me at Zebra, or PM me. Seems a real shame under 100k from new, very light frontal

  35. So at Nats this year I crashed it. And it looked like this, it was my fault, needed to cross 2 lanes of traffic to get into a petrol station making a right hand turn, lane closest to me the traffic was slow and someone let me pass, stuck my nose out to see if anyone was coming and boom, yes they were. Its amazing how little damage the Mark II wore compared to the other car, these things must be built pretty well. Bonnet was already rusty and bogged from previous owner, needed replacing anyway and so needed to get a new bonnet, bumper mounts, 2 headlights and a corner light. The rest was panel magic. Managed to find an old bonnet and got it rust repaired by mate, found a bumper with mounts and some trims. The lights and corner light I got in from Yahoo Japan. Car has been in the garage with the front pulled off since nats and finally went in to panelbeaters last week. The amazing Englishman (Bubblegoose) and his crew did the work and now it looks like this:

  36. So latest on the Viva.. Its been repaired under insurance. Was really weird not doing the job myself but I did 'check in' a couple of times to inspect. Repair is good. Then Shane primed it last week and on Monday it got its top coat. Here is shane giving its bum a coat of high build (or something painty ish) picture upload The bumper is away getting straightened and rechromed. Ooooooh that will be flashy. I do hope they can straighten it out as it was quite bent. On Sunday we took it out and did some more tuning. Its running really well now. Just need to fine tune a few little areas to get the idle even smoother and remove the mild hunting at light throttle openings when on cruise. I have not been able to get the fan to switch on however. I have checked all the wiring and removed the main chip/daughter board to check the circuit there and all good. So maybe a software issue otherwise I have somehow blown a transistor? Luckily its really easy to get to the ecu and work on it!!! I really do like my roll out ecu drawer... WE decided to take it out to our land and get some photos of it while sunny. The parking area seems huge when its just a little Viva parked up... We went to the first OS Nelson area meet last Thursday night. The car was dwarfed by this big old girl... After getting some snaps I gave it a good hard caning and boy its quick on the hills! Sadly the extra power is showing up all the other 'old car' design faults. I think under really hard acceleration the back squats down and the 1800 magnum axle is possibly hitting the tunnel. The trailing arm bolts move/bang back and forth in the holes too. I really would like to fit an IRS setup into this car. I measured the track- from across the outer faces of the tyres and it came up at 1545mm so I need to look at something off a smaller rwd car. I think the mx5 setups I was thinking of using are 80mm wider and I want to avoid using front wheel drive offset rims. I need dish... I will continue to do some research on what might fit. Otherwise I keen to cut/chop/adapt/build my own setup. But If I can find a setup that is close to working it will save a big ball ache when it comes to re-cert time. I've lots of other things I want to make/modify as well but cant really start until we have our shed all built. Currently waiting on plans and then the whole consent application so it will be a while yet. I might pop the car up on the hoist and remove the springs. Then I can jack up the axle up until it hits and squeezes the bump stops. I can then spot what might be hitting. Anyway- I am very much looking forward to the drive to Hanmer tomorrow. Always a fantastic drive with great scenery. Gonna be good!

  38. So its been awhile but I went up to dads yesterday and took her for a drive. Hadn't been started since last time I was there (ages ago) but she ran well once we found a battery that had enough juice. Dad tried to take her for a VIN but the fuel pump shat itself on the way in, now she has a new fuel pump and handbrake cable. Dad said he will take her into town for a VIN and drive her to work to get some k's under her belt. Hopefully she doesnt break down on the way like last time and passes and is all legal for Hawke's Boes.

  40. I never thought I'd be posting this update, but we got the car back in one piece! Spamming social media really does help sometimes. The awesome Niki/Mourning Cupcake spotted it parked in town, called me up and now we've got the car back. I've just got home from recovering the car and a trip to the police station. There doesn't appear to be any major damage and there's still plenty of fuel in it. Woo woo! It's been an exciting couple of hours and Grandad is suitably stoked. Thanks to everyone who shared the news around so lots of people could keep their eyes open for it. Thanks to Niki especially!

  41. Finally picked up my BC Gold rear springs on Friday. 4.5Kg to go with the adjusters, fitted up pretty good and nice and captive with the Bilsteins. Looks like ill be able to wind up and down about 20mm or so if required which is pretty much perfect.

  44. RCAs finally arrived. So spent Friday night putting all the front suspension back in and finally got the car back down onto the ground. Finally rolled the car out for the afternoon and cleaned out the shed to prepare for the next stage. Just have to sell off a few spare bits now so I can afford to buy my rear bearing kit. So next on the list: - Buy Rear Bearings - Re-assemble Diff, Axles etc. - Make Hub spacers for MA45 Rotors - Get all Callipers Re-built - Fit Brakes - Fit Diff to Car After that I can start focussing on Driveline. Happy days.

  46. Got the engine back on tuesday. Then me and my dad spent most of boxing day putting it in. hooked everything up and after fixing a few wires and a new starter motor it started up. Went for a drive and it runs so much better, more power and sounds a lot sharper. Here's the discussion link. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/41580-jaden61s-scorpion-colt/
