  1. Got a few things sorted. Gear lever lock-out was all spiffed to fuck so you could hit reverse instead of second, not much fun on the way down the gears. Adjusted with hammer/drift. Fine now. It's been a bit crashy over holes in the road, I thought it was just a Beetle thing.Turns out the rear body mount bolts were loose. One needed a bit of a nip, the other had backed off about 1/2 an inch. These 2 things sorted have made the car totally different to drive. Also tried the rims on for size, they're 8" and they are going to look mint. Going to have to do 2 & 1/2 inch flares which is fine. Anyway, pics. Loose bolts/chrome shocks aye Phone shot Nice.....

  2. My 2 cents worth would be to take the springs to a spring maker and get them de-arched. The trick is to measure the current amount of arch with the car sitting on the ground and then tell the spring maker how much you want it to come down. I would leave the extra leaf in place, most 60's cars were a bit soft from the factory which is why the extra leaf trick was so common.

  16. Jason managed to turn my "buck" (read: bucket and piece of wood) into a part that will hold the filter and funnel air towards the air box. the filter fits like a glove! Test fitted with some big hose: Gave it a wash and a paint. I didn't want to sand it too much because I hate fibreglass dust and don't have any masks at home, so it can stay rough . The setup has turned out good enough for now. I'll re-visit everything next time the engine comes out.

  20. It's a lash up, that's for sure. Blardy foamers coming on here and putting me right/making me feel stupid/knowing stuff. I knew it was a bit of a mongrel but I didn't pay pedigree money. But yes, it needs some better spacers spun up. The other side was just crushed tube. It's now thicker tube that will crush a little less.

  25. Continuing with the brakes I pulled the caliper and line off tonight, caliper was pretty well stuck, neither the slides nor the piston wanted to move.So yeah that required a bit more investigationDoesn't look too bad right? So how about after applying a bit of compressed air into the bleed nipple hole?Mmmmm tasty!Believe it or not I'd already given everything a good squirt of brake cleaner and a wipe down with a rag.Gave everything a damn good clean, used some 2000 paper to clean the bore and piston etc, seals were in remarkably decent condition so I lubed it up and reassembledAlso cleaned out the master cylinder and flushed the line, refitted it all and bled it up.Feels like it's working nicely now, decent pressure etc.The Dio line is way too short for the Gyro though, but I've got a brand new 1100mm braided SS line that was too long for the Let's, which should work out nicely!

  28. In August I went to a festival style event called "Chrome Expression Session". Basically it is a massive car meet, with all sorts of activities, and the opportunity for many who would normally avoid the track to drive their precious street and show cars. The event was held at Hampton Downs. For one low entry fee for the whole weekend, anyone could participate in their choice of these events Circuit cruising - drive your mates around the track without helmets, casually race other drivers, see some cool cars playing. Gymkhana - practice drifting and donuts on the skidpan Drifting - proper drifting on the Club circuit Burnouts Drag racing Roll racing - a drag race from a rolling start Circuit racing - for race cars only Show & Shine / Hardpark - youth version of car show To the average track day junkie it might sound a bit boring, but if you're into modified street cars its great fun. I joined in the track cruising sessions and the gymkhana. The track was great fun, I treated it more like a speed event than a cruise event where traffic was clear! Before I go on that circuit again I should disable my 180 kph speed limiter! I was surprisingly terrible on the skid pad. Driving like a tool and attempting to throw the car sideways, on stock LSD and stock suspension with balanced rear grip, it was more of an understeer-oversteer party. Plus I didn't want to be brutal and grab the handbrake, or kick the clutch. The cars with stiff suspension and lock diffs on the other hand did some spectacular sliding. Here is a playlist of videos from me and others, starting from the Rotary Only cruise session at sunset. The lighting for this was amazing, and driving amongst some of New Zealands wildest street rotaries was an amazing experience. Mods and maintenance this month have been focused on the cooling system, with a pile of OEM bits ready to bolt in. I also removed the stickers from the sills. Pro tip - removing old stickers from paint using a feeler gauge is really easy!

  33. I realise I am hijacking your thread but after our conversation in the pub I know that you too would get a boner seeing something like this jacked up on a more modern 4wd chassis (it doesn't have a double cab though.. but things can be stretched. Its probably one of nicest old trucks Ive ever seen. Its sort of the style of cab I like and available in a more attainable Bedford K series (might have the model code wrong there but some Bedford foamer will correct me ... @footey will know)

  35. Autoblast that puppy. Happy chassis, happy life, just waiting on the timber for the deck. Found some nice swiss cheese in the floor, so have some patch panels in the shed to throw in in the next couple of weeks. Truck is ridiculously solid barring the floor. Also have the C10 front end to pick up later this week and another rear end. But I found some 3.38 gears for the stock rear end (currently 4.57) which will put it at about 1600 rpm at 100 ks in 6th when the LS and auto go in. So in the name of getting it done I might go down this route.

  39. God Bless the Authorities. I was looking at a Fatman Fab IFS front end and emailed them. Here is the response.... Due to the excessive new testing requirements on welded and cast automobile parts by the Australian and New Zealand governments we have formally withdrawn from those markets and will not supply parts to those countries. They are now requiring aviation level fabrication techniques and non-destructive testing on all welded parts. Cast suspension parts regardless of quality or testing are no longer allowed on any basis, while forged parts are required to have documented individual testing done per each part. In addition, we are receiving requirements for detailed engineering analysis far in excess of normal practice and empirical testing as is currently done. These additional costs in addition to the additional shipping and Customs cost for you simply force us to this regrettable decision. We apologize for any inconvenience. Where are my cotton wool overalls. Im vewy vewy precious.
