  4. Being very Kevin in life. Has his summer coat on and hence doesnt look so fluffy. Suffers with the heat here so often found hidden away under a fern in the bush somewhere. He has grand plans to take out a pigeon or a tui but they just laugh at him. We once watched him as he carefully and slowly climbed up a tree and along a branch towards a pigeon. The pigeon just watched him and then when Kevin was almost there it hopped onto another branch. Kevin had the best 'WTF! you cant just do that!!! That's not sport mr Pigeon' look on his face. Since you ask you can have some photos of his latest exploits.. doing what he does best.. sleeping or chilling.. In the Viva on way over to Blenheim for Xmas... (white fluffy cats and red carpet do not mix)

It's got a busted bottom end apparently, but block should still be OK. The boys also tell me it has a big cam but not sure spec on anything.

  10. the other day i painted the C pillar trims and the panel that goes between the tail lights. I'm sold on this colour so tomorrow ill get a liter of it mixed and that should be more than enough to paint the few remaining bits. didn't get much done today. i did a few little things yesterday like paint all the headlight buckets and the grill support brackets for the front. i put it together today and stuck the grill and bumper fill panels on to trial fit them and see how they look. its pretty good, ill chuck the bumper on tomorrow and just check how well it all fits together but so far so good. 2016-01-17_04-21-47 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-01-17_04-21-59 by sheepers, on Flickr

  11. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/51568-leedles-1980-sapporo/ Nice 'Sapporo' you have there - but it's actually a Galant-Lambda (what that /\ symbol is, it is greek for Lambda and denotes two-door coupe while Sigma E means sedan). Yours is the A163A model which means 2.0L and solid rear axle. If it were the European or New Zealand model it would be badged as a Sapporo, a Scorpion if sold in Australia or even a Dodge/Plymouth Challenger II if sold in the US. I currently have a 1980 Eterna GSR coupe (Eterna being an upper spec version of the Galant) - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/21377-fuels-1980-mitsubishi-eterna-gsr and I used to have a 1982 Galant GT coupe which I sold a few years back - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/26926-fuels-1982-galant-gt Both of mine were the same pre-facelift versions as yours is.

I sent my Simmons FR17 x7 rears to Heads Racing and they re lipped them to 8.5" using 3.5" outlets. Let's just say that I am more than happy with the outcome Test fit...no diff of tyres I'm loving it New computer and loom for the injection And here is a sample of my buffing exploits You like that??? I have done the sill, front windscreen and rear windscreen chrome now. This should pop against the patina. I cleaned up and rust killed the s3 rx2 cross member. Sold my rx3 cross member set up for the original unit so I can have the motor set back a bit. I also took a punt on some Honda adjusties and it appears that the rears will slot in once I get new bushes. So that's about it for now. Ordering my last few seals and the engine is getting built the weekend of RE Union in Taupo mid Feb. To say that I'm pumped is an understatement.

  13. Well i have finally found myself another "oldschool" car. A 1983 VH commodore sl/x. Only 2 owners since new even still has the factory radio! Current reg and wof but unfortunately it broke the timing gear on the drive home Plans for it are, well obviously the mandatory v8 conversion, most likely a tickled 308 once i can find one. But in the short term i would like to get the old 202 going again just to keep the car on the road while i build up a 308 and source all the parts i need. Started striping the engine down today to get the old cam out and turns out it probably needs a lot more work than i thought, water pump needs doing, radiator is buggered, all hoses are starting to get perished, gaskets are looking tired as well. So now i am in two minds weather i spend more money on the 202 or just park it up and use the money to go towards the v8??

  14. i dunno if I've mentioned it before but all the brightwork on this car has been pre-fucked by whoever painted it red last time around. parts that are usually chrome, like the C pillar trim, the taillight/headlight surrounds and bumpers had been sanded and fucked in the past in order to paint them red. so I've had to bead blast them and paint them again. hence the gunmetal grey colour. so with that in mind here are the bumpers with their first coat of primer on them. tonight i also prepped and primed the front infill panels and the rear number plate mount. i ordered another liter of the grey today and i should get that tomorrow then i can finish paint a few more parts. 2016-01-18_08-26-10 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-01-18_08-26-23 by sheepers, on Flickr

Body was pulled apart for rust work and respray that never got done. Would be a heck of a lot of work and the owner said its to far gone so might split as a parts car

  16. Front window is in, although I had the opposite with the mastic this time and wondering if I put enough in.. was a good 8-10mm bead but hardly any spilled out the sides, either that or my skill level went up a notch. Time will tell I guess.. Also while in the back I discovered some of this.. Which is gonna need some attention, bit of a strange one tho.. it must get fairly humid behind the back seat as that's the only place I found it..

  18. Sounds like a good example to have bought. The trimatic is definitely the easier option for several reasons: - Trimatic pattern Holden V8 engine blocks are far more common than the Turbo/Chev pattern blocks. They are also cheaper. I assume you know the diference between the two? - Trimatic associated parts for the conversion are very easy to come by, the shifter mechanism etc in your car will simply fit the V8 Trimatic with no modifications - Depending on how much power you're putting through it, a Trimatic will be up to the task. They are also a much cheaper transmission than a TH350/400. The engines are in varying states. I have one 308 that needs the oil pump bolted on and it will run. It has no carb though but I assume you'll put an aftermarket one on instead of fiddling around with the Rochester Quadrajet that they came with as standard. Quadrajets are fine, they flow well and are economical when on part throttle (primaries only) but are an absolute bitch to set up correctly. I have a few spare four barrel manifolds too, but they are standard and hence designed to fit a spreadbore carb, not a squarebore. You can simply fit an adaptor plate to sort this out.

  19. Got this running and drove around a bit yesterday. Needs attention obviously so hopefully there hasn't been too much deterioration on the mechanical side of things. This mess Turned into this No matter how thorough clean up you think you're doing, goddamn chunks of glass everywhere/my feet. For the matters of public interest I have received a quote to make and fit a custom rear window by an Auckland company $850NZD + GST and I understand the car is needed for 2 weeks in Auckland. I don't think I'll go down this path, because well, $50 car, and I'm one broke mofoker.

  22. Wow. Crikey. Its been a while aint it. July was the last post. A few things have been done since then so I better get typing. First off. Come February we will have owned the land for two years and it will be 14 months since we moved out to it. Its settled in nicely and we are getting a good feel for the seasons and all the little things that happen out here when they change. Starting to get to know the locals quite well and have had lots of work coming into the workshop from just word of mouth which is awesome. Hannah is working a summer season job down at the beach front and when thats over we will be doing a flyer drop around the valley and surrounding areas to put out to people that they can get many sorts of engineering/repairs/bike repairs/advice on cats/great coffee from us* *my coffee aint that great.. In the start of spring I spent a morning going about the land taking photos. I tried to compose them as close as I could to the original photos we took as we cleared the land. Some are ever so slightly off. This was because things have changed so much that even I struggled to work out where the original photos were taken! I'm pretty happy with the resulting before and after collection so I'll put them right here. I have tried to list them from the drive way entrance and then heading down the drive to the north end of the property. The driveway entrance.. heading up the drive.. The highest point of the driveway.. I like this one.. looking down the driveway. Such a difference. Next up- one of the 5 old caravans that got taken away. This one was surrounded by lots of junk/scrap steel etc. Now just trees and some sweet old gates we saved. The mountain bike track I started heads in just around there. These next ones are looking out from about where the cabin veranda is.. Looking back towards where the cabin is now. Thats my brother duncan trying to locate where the Gravely mowers might be. We found them a few months later. and now.. Hannah wondering WTF... This next one is from the first night we stayed over to check the land out. We had pushed the driveway gorse down by throwing the van into 4wd and just driving over the top. Here down at the north end I was just laying back in the grass chilling and imagining what the area could be like. There is now a bit more parking area.. The following morning of the first night Hannah chilling in the morning sun with a coffee. We didnt really know what this area was going to be like in two years time.. This is it. you can see we kept the little Kanuka to the left. Its thriving now! The main yard was not much of a yard back then.. This is better !... Our first morning.. two years later.. I'm really glad I took so many photos before we cleared it all. Its great to look back at. Moving on to recent times. Not long before xmas this happened.. https://youtu.be/uaAHS96LGP4 We had been wanting rid of that 70 plus year old bugger for ages and its so good to see it gone. Shane (sideways sickness) and Greg (64Valiant) came round and got to see some of it heading to earth. Then we had a nice BBQ. Big thanks goes out to Shep for chopping it down. No way would I be doing that job. For starters I dont have chainsaw with a metre long bar! Nor the skill or experience. It was great fun just helping out and watching. We have many more big pine trees to come down over the next couple of years but this one was the one I wanted gone now. The view afterwards is heaps better!!!. Plus we now have a sweet as 8 metre high trunk to build a cool viewing platform on one day Before.. After.. Then for the end of the year we thought we had better crack on and finish the bathroom before my brother came over to stay. We needed the shower going for him so we got stuck in and finished it just before xmas eve. It still has some little finshing touches like light switches, extra lights, better prettier shower head, hand rail up the steps etc but its pretty much done. It works really well however I reckon we'll get a new califont for winter as the old Palomar is a bit small on heating capacity. We'll see. The compost toilet is working really well and still doesn't smell. Ive not yet even wired in the fan. Happy with that. Its taking about 3-4 months to fill a bin. Will put in a third bin soon and then start a secondary outside composting area away up under the eucalyptes just to be safe. The bathroom lights and shower pump are running off the cabin solar panel setup too and we have run wires to add a couple of outside lights to light up the pathway from the cabin to the bathroom. I just have to make some lights yet. Anyway.. some photos of the new bathroom ... We moved all the various piles of gorse and Kanuka into one place to chop too. Here you can get an idea of the amount of Gorse we cleared.. We have also started a vege garden and although a bit late its going well. Its certainly not a massive affair like our neighbours but we'll learn and it'll get bigger/better. The strawberries all going mental and its great to have 4 or 5 fresh strawberries on the cereal in the morning. Our fruit orchard trees are growing well and seem pretty happy. We'll plant heaps more this winter. The olive tree seems happy as so we'll plant more of them along the driveway. Finally Hannah spotted an old picnic table offered for free down at someones holiday home so we grabbed that. I told the owner we had been after one for ages so he was stoked it was going to be used. It looks the part and is an ideal little spot to chill. Thats it for now. I hope you enjoyed it. Im pretty damn happy with it all and now the rush is sort of over (for a bit) we have both finally been enjoying more of a summer recently of just swimming and cycling. Next big plan is the mezzanine floor in the workshop but that will be a winter thing. Then more cabins! Oh and bike tracks. Oh and spa pool. Damn...

  23. As with any project that involves old cars you spend a disproportionate amount of your time dealing with rust! I’d try been meaning to give electrolysis a go for quite a while and thought now would be as good a time as any. All you need is some sort of tank, an old school battery charger, some washing soda and water…… Connect the -ve to the rusty car part and the +ve to a few bits of scrap steel and throw the lot into water with a little washing soda added, turn on the power and watch the fascinating yet friendly little bubbles forming ……… And more friendly bubbles…………… After a period of time you’ll discover that despite your initial burst of enthusiasm watching friendly bubbles forming becomes very, very, very boring and you’ll feel a strong urge to drink heavily! The following morning you end up with a fuzzy head and rust soup………. An interesting by-product of the exercise is that you will also end up with the rust gone from your car part. Before and after shot….. A bit of paint and the results speak for themselves… Can’t help but wonder if you could de-rust a whole car body in the neighbour’s swimming pool with an arc welder, (while he was away on holiday of course!).

  26. Over the holidays I didn't get as much work done as I had hoped. A big Christmas and boxing day left my enthusiasm very low, as well as a decent new years for the first time in years, didn't help progress at all! (Dating game thread for info lol) Rafters up over Xmas/NY period. A few girts attached on the side and rear wall (can't do others until slab is poured) Purlins started on my last week of holidays. Not a bad view of the Tararua ranges. My mate the skylark? came to sing for me everyday (more likely attracting new lady friends). He thinks this new place is made just for him! I have now returned to work, so progress will be a lot slower!

  27. Picked up this Nardi woodgrain wheel for a price I couldn't resist as was looking for something larger than the Momo that was on there in order to see the gauges properly (couldn't see water temp, somewhat important). With a bit of fettling it's on, and looks perfect. Feels really nice to hold, I've never had a woodgrain wheel before. Also took this opportunity to straighten the boss as the previous owner for whatever reason had the wheel on a slight angle which bugged me to no end. Now I need to get some repair parts for the centre console to get it back to it's former glory. When I took that photo from the driver's seat it reminded me of this one I took a little over 3 years ago at Rocky Auto: It was never a matter of IF I would own one.. but a matter of when! 28. As per dream shed thread. This isn't really my "dream" shed but it's close enough for a rough cunt. So like, way back when I was 21 I bought 6.5 acres with the intention of building a house one day. I was a builder at the time which was perfect as there was no way I'd be able to afford to pay someone to do it. Fast forward 6 years, now single again with plenty of time on my hands and living with the olds while I sort my shit out. I decided it was time to do something with the section, but building a house was too difficult on a single wage, so I decided to do a workshop and live in it. Months and months went by. I drew plans, got quotes, talked to the bank, got a 2nd mortgage etc. Seemed like an eternity to get everything sorted. Mid December, just before I went on holiday before Christmas. I mowed the lawns and sprayed the drive.

  30. Would like to keep it auto, cant decide weather to go turbo or stick with the trimatic, advantage with the turbos seem to be more aftermarket support but that require more to fit into the commy? What state are the engines in? Cheers very happy with it, last owner for about 15 years old guy said he had never had it over 80kms, which is probably why it stripped the timing gear on the way home doing 100km Looks like all he has used it for is towing a garden trailer to the dump every now and than, with the usual dings and scratches that you can expect. But everything is very original nothing has been touched or tampered with

  31. Like the look of the zorst, and have build my turbo manifold from a 3D CAD model, was a guide more than anything, but certainly helped. Are you doing a 4-1 or a 4-2-1? Was hoping to see a graph comparing one to the other and whether one complements the VVTI tuning more than the other. Probably pay to focus attention on the collector(s), Burns do some real nice stuff (collectors / megaphones) you could use (or try to replicate).

  36. A bit of love has been given to the wagon lately.Ordered a carb kit and 1969 corona clutch cylinder and new brakes and hubs off OS member MATTTT, cheers mate.Ripped apart the carby and installed new pieces, now runs alot smoother but the tappets where noisy so off came the cover and went to check all the clearances, all were near fine except one being an easy 3mm out.re adjusted it and now she purrs.fitted the clutch cylinder from the states, fitted perfectly and engages the clutch which meant ROAD TEST!!! Started her up and eased down the drive, off down the street and around the corner ,got her into 3rd singing her tits off then having to down shift to slow as it doesn't have brakes as of yet, tried the handbrake and it works on one side just.Gearbox was fine for age and the car handled like a whale, shocks to add to the list of parts.Parked it back in the garage after 2mins of driving and easy 2 liters of gas used but worth it.10mins later cops roll past looking in,so some old lady must not of been impressed with the 4m barking loudly and a one wheeler donut. Unsure if this is the original box off the 2m but if it is a w40 it has a side shifter? can anyone confirm this Also would the mechanical fuel pump be a main cause in crap fuel economy as 1 litre of gas in 5mins worth of idling seems bad dicuss here....//oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/51148-toymotas-1969-ms53-crown-wags-discussion/

  45. Slowly been getting the interior back together — new carpet is all in, seats are back in, looking great. I have finished restoring the dash and centre console and started to put them back in. I managed to source some 3M Di-Noc from an Architectural finishes place to replace all the faded old 'woodgrain'. It came out pretty well, if I do say so myself. I prefer the straight grain texture to the swirly walnut style that was in there before and the colour match with the steering wheel is spot on, which is nice. Old: New:
