  2. The weekend has been dedicated to bringing it back to life from its 15 year hibernation It has 20l of stink old green as fuck petrol so drained that out and the clutch had run dry so put some fluid through that and it bled up fine. Took the plugs out and got it turning over to build up oil pressure which all went to plan after finding out its push button start due to the ignition barrel being chooched because Lucas blue smoke technology. Seems like the clutch disk is fused to the flywheel because it will still wind forward on the starter motor in gear with the clutch pedal in. Put in some fresh gas and got it to the point of the engine trying to fire only to discover the Strombergs are all leaky and gunked up with old petrol so will get those off this week to clean out. Plan is to get it running happy then take for a wof and see what it fails on, once legal I need to find some sweet wheel and give the spring a makita haircut then enjoy a class executive motoring that only British Leyland could offer

  4. Fashionably late, this is what I was doing when it was slightly warmer than it is now. The Vintage Hot Rod Association holds an annual speed trial for pre-1949 vehicles at Pendine Sands, a 7 mile stretch of low tide smoothness in South wales. Top speed this year was 116 mph over the measured mile, pretty scary on wet sand and cross plies. I went up on the Sunday, a couple of mates were running cars that I had helped build. Poured with rain on the 3 hour drive down but the sun shone soon after. Bonnets were a new thing for 2015, a riveted fan blade let go last year and gave some folks a bit of a fright ! Hope you enjoy. Two new cars on the way for next year, it's already fully booked but I've got a ticket so all's well Cheers, Dan.

  5. Been keen to own another one of these after having the roadrunner dirt track trump at Nats this year so when this popped up on trademe was local and looking pretty good I grabbed it sight unseen. My old mans first job was a cabinet makers apprenticeship in Nelson making the wood trim bits for the doors/plus other delightful cars like Austin Princesses so there is a family connection to BL junk Im the 4th owner its been a Tauranga car all its life but been shed stored for the last 15 years with reg on hold which is a bonus. The paint has the perfect amount of patina on and the rust it has seems surface only so keen to seal it some how to preserve the condition of it. Interior is tidy as bar the usual dash crack and the glove box lid panel delaminating, its got a sweet old panasonic head unit and speakers in the doors Iv got these reco'd PYE speakers to sit on the parcel tray and a nice tacho to mount in the dash where the clock is

  6. More progress from the last couple of weeks, I got the rollcage all welded up It went together pretty well, I haven't made one before so lots of measuring and re-measuring but I got there in the end. So all this effort was pretty much for these little bits which are the bosses that make the upper seatbelt mounts that go into the main hoop here So all done and in place it looks like this I have a couple of things to finish on the mounting plates inside the car and then it is on to the exhaust.

  8. Tried a few things with the aluminum trumpets. couldn't stop them ringing and went back to the short plastic ones. until some how mate agreed to machine some more, this time from acetal. same stuff as the original white ones. problem solved! seems mr toyota new what was up using plastic trumpets machine ate the side off no3. but it works for now till sort a replacement Added another 10mm length over the ali ones to attempt to fill some holes. but was a bit of a step backwards tbh, as had to trim a bit more fuel out up top and didn't really gain much anywhere else. over all they are still a bit better than the short runners. so will stick with them. Poor attempt at a roman graph, mostly to show how much just changing runner lengths effects the tune & power delivery. Its the 100% row of the short runner fuel map overlayed with long runners . to give an idea of scale, the gap between the lines at 7500rpm is about 6% fuel. im also running the whole map a bit leaner on the long trumpets. so the long runners are a bit better than it looks

Give our wahines a rest, let the kids play and we can chillax I do something similar with some other mates 2-3 times a year and it works well I was thinking mid to late jan. We could meet up after work and convoy there

  11. Hello People! Myself and a lad from teh french forum are pretty keen to get out and about with our lovely french machines over the summer for a few relaxed cruises. The greater Manawatu has hundreds of kilometres of beautiful roads and even more beautiful scenery and what better time to enjoy that than summer time with a saucy french minx. We're thinking for the first cruise to kick off in Feilding, take in a quick lap of two of the river valleys and back. It's around 115km of pretty quiet roads and we're thinking we can either stop for a quick bite/beer midway or carry on back to Feilding for the same. There wont be any gravel roads or anything that'll harm even the slickest of cars. Looking at Sunday 6th of December. register your interest! This definitely wont be the last of these so get on board and enjoy some car lad banter, bring your partner and mates and lets have a bit of fun! This is definitely open to out of towners too. Cheers Cam

  13. so after two days of busting my arse and having a particularly bad time i now have one seat mounted and all finished. had a bastard of a job trying to get the seat as low as possible. the seat rail channel is 4mm away from the exhaust now. it just can't go any lower. my head is 10mm higher than it was so all good. ill mount the other one through the week. 2015-11-22_07-13-52 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-11-22_07-10-09 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-11-22_07-09-56 by sheepers, on Flickr

  18. Getting better at this rust stuff. Tried to listen to everyone's advice here so have cut/sanded off any rust and then painted on rustkill (just incase) and now its all sitting in the shed with a heater to dry out... Tomorrow I will sand it all down thoroughly and slosh a coat of durepox primer alllllll over the front and get it all up in there.. THEN I CAN WELD THE TOP BACK ON..THEN ITS RUST FREE kinda. Yessssssss. Got these cool headlight guard things. And swept up this pule of rust And dnt let anyone ever tell you that Geminis aren't extremely useful As scrap steel

  19. I meant to log this build while it was happening, but life sort of got in the way. Still, it’s a work in progress, so all is not lost… I bought an old ironhead sporty a couple of years ago, just because it was local, the numbers matched and it had live plates. No real attraction for the things, more a case of buy it, patch it up and see how it goes. If it was as horrible as they say, I’d just flick it on… Then I thought of Café’ing it, for a laugh, as it seemed the most unsuitable bike as a base, so I chiselled off all the eagles, dropped the front end 8” and fabricated a few bits and pieces while sorting out decades of neglect. A year or two later and I’ve fallen for the oily old thing, and now she’s 40 and rego is a realistic cost I’m using her more often, so some more work is on the cards… As I got her, mercifully there were no tassels… Front end drop… Tank mock-up… Seat and tail piece trial… Mechanical/wiring work… Getting there… And pretty much in current form…

  20. I collected the v50 today. First 2 stroke project for me and I plan to keep this one a bit more standard than the c50 build (see here: http://bit.ly/1OkbVkS). Here she is loaded into the back of the wagon, on the way to the big scary WOF building: Well, that wasn't so scary at all. Sorted. After a wet drive home and barely a drop of oil as she lay on the side, it was time to get a couple of pics before the light disappeared. Wheel-less so it fit in the car: The bits and pieces: I've got a new legshield and few repro items coming for it shortly. It's fairly solid so it'll make for an easy tear down. Not sure what will happen next, but updates will come soon.

  22. I thought I would make a build thread on this since I never did when I built it, maybe it will give someone that last little kick of motivation to get their velobike up and running for Dromageddon. Heres prettymuch what I started off with: after a bit of cutty weldy etc came up with this: front end not attached it that photo just there for mock up. the rear wheel mounts: one side of the frame flips open so you can remove the engine, I used some valves and valve guides from a mini 998 head that I rebuilt once upon a time for the hinges its held closed by this bolt more to come...

  23. I don't know whether to congratulate or commiserate you on your latest ride. I'm firmly of the opinion that to own an older English car you have to be at least a little mad. Ether way we seem to in a growing community of old school car enthusiasts that own both Japanese and English and in the case of some early Nissans both in the one vehicle. In the build thread you ask how to rebuild Strombergs. You will only need one tool, the biggest hammer you can find and use to dismantle said CD's, please keep in mind this is just IMO. Then find and fit a set of 2500S 1 3/4 SU's not only will you get more power but all the issues the CD's have will be gone to. Or better yet find some 2600 Rover HIF44's for the extra power and far better fuel economy, think these where fitted to the Triumph TR6 along with increased comp and some other Trumpy trickiness for near 150hp. Both will fit straight onto the manifold and retain the same throttle linkages and are no where near as tricky to rebuild or tune, In the SU's case there is only one gasket and if your float level is right you only need that for vapor control, the car will run fine without it. Good luck, the Triumph 2000 and 2500 are great cars.

  24. Righteo! We'll kick of on Sunday the 6th of December at the grubby gravel pit located at 44 Cambridge Ave, Ashhurst Plan to set off around 11.30am, so aim to be there around 11am. Come mingle at the start. We're all shy. We're all not hugely outgoing I'm sure, but we all don't bite and we all love cars so there's something in common for everyone. https://www.google.co.nz/maps/place/44+Cambridge+Ave,+Ashhurst+4810/@-40.2946584,175.7515998,17z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x6d41b74255e5e4f1:0xdb1ecc05871d86d9 We'll stop for lunch at a country pub/cafe type place along the way. bring ya o/s car. bring ya daily. bring ya work ute. whatever. everyone welcome. Bring your camera! This part of the North Island is pretty awesome. great driving roads and great scenery. LOW CAR FRIENDLY: Don't be a sook and stay home coz your whip is slammed. come spin some yarns and do some hooning.

  33. I was thinking spencer because it is close, I would hope it is a first for a couple of folks so if the wheels fall off it is close to home for 'emergency missions' It is only the start of summer, I try and take my kids away once a month without mummy coming and happy to make adventures bigger as the group experience grows. Ross OBD has been on one my other mates do with their kids and has seen how cool this can be

  34. Cheers guys, excited to join the v50 club. Going to finish an order with the Thai Yamaha dude next week so I can get this old girl running like new again. I've noticed this is part of the y80/y100 Yamaha mate family. In Thailand they actually produced a Yamaha Mate 111 model for a few years there and they still exist. Had me thinking.....

  41. So went to the track again, Gave the mighty 1G hell, Did a quick wheel alignment at the track infinitely improving the car no more sledge monster, Bent a MK 1 being overly aggressive, only a 8 so not tooooo cut up, Adjustable HSD rear shocks and a chopped up front Cusco strut bar helped, Bucket seat stopped me flailing around the car. Have decided I like drifting and from now on will forever be broke. Next up: N/A 2jz, some proper suspension with down travel, a proper wheel alignment and ditching the fender mirrors in favor of something else. And a pic of it in full 1G screaming mode:
