  1. The wheels I have on at the moemnt arent actually mine (thanks Joe) so have been keeping an eye of sorts out for some. Picked these up yesterday. Nothing outrageous, but a bit wider and can still use the same tyres. Trying to find someone in Wellinton who will polish them...... Two are gold as above, two are silver, so will need to do some painting. I quite like the gold, to me they are quintesential for techno phantoms. But ill see what they are liek on the car once polished up. Discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33955-beavers-wuntwennywhy-coupe/page-34

  2. Hi everybody, So as per the link below, 73crownwagon (Denham) and I (Neal) are the new Auckland Area representatives, joining BDA780 (Karl) who is remaining. Click me That means that we'll be aiming to do the following: - Spin yarns with members at meets and events - Dish out Oldschool stickers - Organise Auckland meets. Come up with new ones too. - Do some moderating on the forum - Continue the great work put in by our outgoing area rep Chris (EURON8) So if you have OS specific questions then we're here to help. We're also looking forward to suggestions from you guys regarding sweet cruise/meet ideas, events you would like to see us take part in and any other suggestions you may have. Anyway, have a lovely day and we're looking forward to some sweet OS happenings in the near future! Meow

  3. Ahh shucks. Thanks man. I still love seeing how big the monthly meets are now and that I can look around and name almost everyone there Yeah living the dream pretty much, and I just couldn't put the time into OS I wanted to, so felt it best to just step aside. I'll still be at every monthly meet and be involved with OS and its events. Xox

  5. Shelves & benches were finished off a few weeks ago, just finally got around to running that cable so I could set everything up. I'm really happy how it's all turned out. The idea was to put something together with what I already had, & getting the Metrapanel boards was the final piece to the puzzle. Already had the steel, & this way I could build what I wanted the way I wanted it Had to lift the shelf up with the engine crane it was that fucken heavy! 2.4 x 2.4 & could do with more intermediate shelves but for now it works for me.. Pic's of shelves & benches all finished.. I did have a couple of steel shelves that you can see in the background of one of the previous pic's, but they looked like shit. What I've made is so much more purdy. All I gotta do now is fix down the vice & make some stands out of some wheel rims & steel pipe for the drill press & bench grinder so they're off the work bench

  6. id just like to thank Chris for his work and his enthusiasm that has got us to this point. he's always been there and always on board when someone else organises a cruse or event up these ways. its thanks to his work that the auckland burgerfuel meet is such a success. Chris is fulfilling the dream of getting paid to work on cars so he's stepped back from the heady heights of organising OS meets. the OS admin team wish you great success and also the odd leamington or two. you got some big shoes to fill newbies, big shoes, and i wish you all the luck in the world.

  9. Ahhhh OK, that makes sense. Also, this piece of shit just passed its fucking cert, zeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Towed it alllllllllll the way to Tauranga, drove it into his shed, he looked at it for around 1.47 minutes, and said it was good to go. He was more worried about arguing the origins of the wild bunch with some old dude, than having a good look at my work. Didn't even give me a high five for my sweet engine check light. Glad its all done thought, neat. All was not without incident though. When I went to load the ute onto the trailer last night, the fucking thing unhitched somehow (brother in law attached it, so I blame him, lols) and made a mess of the boot of his car, so that's going to be at least $500 to fix, bugger. Next on the list is to fit the alarm, and banging high fatality sound system, then get the cert plate stuck on, and DO SUM SKUDS. Regards, V "fuli hektik" G.

  10. Hi this is one of my projects its a 1949 chev sedan. The photos aren't the best but both front floors need replacing as there are drain holes and were the old brake master cylinder is there is now an access hole. Have got a second hand new chassis that has been sand blasted and fitted with an hq holden LSD diff so the next fun part is finding a jag front end for it. Motor is not decided at this point as it is to be a family car so my options are the 396 big block that needs rebuilding or pull apart my LS400 Lexus for an injected late model V8. Plans are for keep the body standard run the factory steel wheels with white wall flappers that are in the shed and build a 50's style hot rod. But first strip it down and repair all the rust in both front floors both sills and tail pan area under boot lid. When I first got the car it had the 216 straight 6 in it in pieces it had engine builder tags dating from the 70's so it has been a while since its been on the road. Cheers.

  13. This is my thread for my factory 16r Toyota and to show progress of its life. Discussion thread I bought this Corona November 2013, It already had a been painted and 5-speed and cream interior transplant. Kept it as a daily and weekend cruiser til Febuary 2014 when I got all the rust in doors, wind screen, etc cut out and repainted in Volcano Red. Not long after I bought 'her' I was striaght away researching into a simple and easy motor swap. I really fancied the 22r and was deadset on one but the pricing and even getting my hands on one near-by just didn't seem realistic so I kept an eye on TradeMe for a few months til July 2014 I spotted a 18rgeu pop back up, I had seen it months earlier but the seller was very vague about details. I took a risk and bought it, I got it for $380 , including Long Block, Fuel injection setup (AFM, Intake, Loom, etc), piping, the whole works, even a complete RA63 Body loom and a few christmas lights in the bottom of one box lol. I looked into what I would need to alter first. *Return line to fuel tank *Cert for EFI Conversion *Wiring I stalled the conversion for a month. I then got a hold of the guy who sold me the motor, He had some Sidedrafts that were pretuned for a 18rg, I took the risk and bought them for $260 I then got cracking in. With help from a mate, we had the 40 year old 16r out.. With work and my simple knowledge of mechanical shit, I got a mate to put the shortblock in for me while I was at work. Wacking the side drafts on, giving it fuel, air and spark the motor ran, and ran beautiful. Not long after I ended up getting a txt while at work and my mate thought it had blown headgasket... It wasn't, he had just jumped ten steps forward. Anyways I ended up doing the head gasket, New filters, timing done, side drafts tuned, throttle made up etc The project got put on hold for few months and I missed out on 4s & Rotarys that year. Early this year, with it in and side drafts on again, exhaust made up the conversion was done Took it for wof, all she passed flying colours, no cert needed. Photoshopped: Cheers for reading.

  16. I've never used the POR fuel tank sealer kit but will have to on several of my cars. Great progress shot of it too, that stuff looks legit. As for the carpets, I know it's too late but Knox Auto Carpets in Australia are excellent. They manufacture carpets for Australian cars using the exact fibre blends and often original mouldings. They have a huge range of colour and plushness options too. I've used them before and can't rate them highly enough.

  17. Oh and here are a few ideas that I have for future OS related Auckland events: - Car movie nights, thanks to the infinite film knowledge of Zebra Dude - Summer shed tour (the last one in winter went okay so let's try to top that) - Bicycle rides. Basically driving oldschool cars to a destination and then hooning around on sweet old bikes. - OS presence at Kumeu annual car show (yet to clear this with OS management wizards, just a thought at this stage) - Summertime beach cruise(s) with swimming and BBQing involved There are bound to be other ideas that you guys will come up with so just suggest them to me and I'll see what I can do. Cheers.

  27. Thought I better do a write up on this. I am madly trying to get it ready for DGR in Welly on the 27th. I bought it from Hastings a couple of months ago. It was on the Tard but it had sold cheaper than I expected and I missed the boat. A couple of weeks later the bike was up again with a lower buy now. I hit buy now within minutes. I travelled to Hastings and picked it up from the nicest couple ever. The old owner had done a crap load of work to get it where it was but it just needed finishing and recomplying for registration / wof. The dude that hit buy now the first time used the 'My Mother is terminally ill and needs money' trick after wasting their time for two weeks. They were so nice and so hospitable they made me crackers with pickle for lunch and we spun a few yarns. Basically he was selling it because of a back injury and had turned his mind to restoring a car instead. This is how he got the bike ; And after an incredible amount of work, I got it like this; Take my hat off to him, a huge amount of polishing and work was done. The plastic part behind the seat is off a later version of the same model just moved forward about 6 inches. The seat was custom made and works perfectly. SOOOO, super stoked with it, I got it reregistered / WOFed and rode it for a bit. I decided to give it a birthday as the jets were standard and therefore too small since the pod filters were added. Dumb idea. This thing has cursed me ever since. Once back together it had the symptoms of an air leak and I have taken the carbs off and on at least 10 times since then. Cue new plug caps, plugs, intake rubbers, points.... argh! I busily tried very very hard to have it running right before the QCR welly meet not that long ago. I thought I better test ride it the night before and glad I did as it ran like an absolute dogggg. Boy was I pissed off that weekend, was keen as to roll in Welly and I missed an epic ride. SO, then I have been going hard for the DGR ride.

  30. I'll vouch for the POR tank sealer kit. Used it on one of my Harley tanks when the previous stuff I used (can't remember the name - was white rubberised stuff) wasn't applied properly & started rusting underneath the coating. Cleaned off the old stuff best I could, did the prep & applied the POR product & it was good as gold.

  38. Nothing major to report lately. Got a spot on Caffiene and classics cruise to filming of HotRodTV and ended up getting drawn to be in front of shed/in opening sequence Also got this sweet rolling shot taken on the way out there which is probably my favorite photo of the Bug so far . Also, I borrowed 10Speed Dave's wheels off his bug while I was trying to figure out widths for the rear and sort of really liked the look/width of his rears. A deal was struck and BUGD had some new slightly wider rear wheels than the factory 4s. Im still not 100% sure on width, But they're probably 7 inches wide. Also tweaked the ride height a bit more because I cant have Greg having all the slammed Volkswagen fame on here. [Although, I think hes trying to sabotage me because he took my spare springplates to notch for me and I haven't seen them since ] Almost at the stage where I really need to throw some money at a narrowed beam and notch/raise fuel tank DISCUSS

  40. WELL THEN, this piece is all ready to go for its recheck in two days. The following has been done to achieve a high standard of certification: Fan shroud, there's not a lot of room in there, so ended up going for the minimalist look, good enough hopefully. Cable spec seat belt stalks, found a set in a Navara which were exactly what I wanted. Engine check light, found the dash had a few unused spots (4WD and seat belt light) so scraped the picture of the seat belt off the little plastic doofer, until it was clear. Printed the words "CHECK ENGINE" with a label maker on clear tape, applied to clear section of plastic, filled in around the edges with a sharpie (the choice of street magicians everywhere) and then glued a bit of red plastic from a civic dash in under it, to give it that warning light glow. Even wired it into the ECU, full legit spec. (Looks really good IRL spec, not so much in the below pic) I also re-did the seat belt doubler plates with metric fine nuts, and modified the front drive shaft loop to make it churerer. While I was tinkering, I decided to fix a few other problems. Home made catch can, husky drink bottle, gear box breather, old motorbike rego holder bracket, and a few pipe fittings. Changed the clutch slave cylinder as it was poked. New item is aluminum rather than cast, light weight race spec, OMG. I decided to work out where the gearbox was leaking from, turns out it had a bung gasket. This was letting oil out, but more pain in the assedly, let water in when I water blasted under the ute, so have to change the oil now. While I had the shifter out, I decided to lengthen it, as it was lol'able short (though factory, so S14's must have deep tunnels?) so I found a bolt, cut the end off it, drilled a hole up it, and welded it to the OG shifter. Much more farm/Hilux spec now, and way betterer to drive with. And that's it. Hopefully it has a cert by Friday. Regards, VG.

  41. Despite his obvious lack of subtlety it's obvious to most of us R100 is anything but trolling. It's obvious the point he's trying to make (one that the majority of the end users of our existing "cert" system would agree to) is that trying to build a car that conforms to the "opinion" of the designated certifier can sometimes reach the point of being nothing short of ludicrous. By all means disagree with him, (I for one love a robust debate) but dismissing him as being a "Troll" possibly says more about you than it does about R100's opinions.

  44. OK so just to confirm- after I do this work I would have to send vehicle to tsda to have tags reattached?I do know when I had my safari I went to vtnz and the guy removed the body tag and refixed a new one to the chassis for me (I was doing a body swap) Could I rock up with car on trailer and have them do this in my case to avoid any issues? Sorry if it's not your area..just don't want to fuck things by being sloppy Edit. Just phoned nzta (spoke to lots of peoplr and got put on hold lots) and they said that legally I'm not allowed to remove those tags at all SO the most fool proof way I can do this is to trailer the vehicle to a vtnz or other agent and they will remove the tags and HOLD ONTO THEM for me until I can take car back to have them refixed in position. What a load of shit.

  45. Today we received some really good news and bits! Firstly I got the bonnet chrome installed! Although small really complements the car and makes it complete. I also recieved the WarP 9 motors, Tyco EVC500 contactors and maintenance switch which will be off to the engineer next week to get installed! We also meet with our biggest sponsor Peter, the CEO of ETCO who has opened big oppurtunities for the KEV70!

  46. Back due to popular demand! I've been slowly spending time and money. New radiator purchased. Car ones just aren't the right shape and the little Honda ones are just too little. I measured up a friends Massey Ferguson TE20, it was spot on. I brought a new replacement one from the radiator shop. It will need it's inlet and outlets changed but that won't be a problem. Next up is a way to drive the hydraulic pump. I have a pump with a pulley, the pulley is a giant ugly thing as seen here. So I turned it down into a hub and redrilled a RB20 waterpump pulley to fit it. I don't know what the original pulley was mare out of, it was as hard as hell and took hours to turn down! To drive the pump it needs a pulley on the crank too, another RB20 gave up it's water pump pulley as did a Mazda b5. I turned up a hub to hold it all in the right place and a friend cut a key way in it for me. It's gone a bit rusty from sitting, nothing some scotchbright won't fix. Last of all. I had planned to drive this directly off the engine as the tractor has it's own gearbox. But. The more I have learned about them the more people I have come across saying they are too high geared standard with a motor that revs to 1800 ish rpm maximum. The common solution seems to be adapting a Ford Model T gearbox to them. I think that Datsun will rev to easily twice that of the original, I'm going to need an auxiliary gearbox. Luckily I have the Vanette box that came with the motor. It looks like it will be just about back to the start which is a bummer but hopefuly the result will be worth it.
