  1. Two weeks of MK2's Part 1: To start the wild ride, I accidentally won an auction for SSR Mk2s. I was sure that I would be outbid, and placed the bid as a reminder to myself about the auction, but sure enough after 10,000,000,000 refreshes nobody outbid me and suddenly I owned these awesome wheels... in Japan. With a huge thanks to Jesse Streeter we discussed the cheapest option of around an 8 week delivery so while I was thinking of clever ways to hide their arrival through employing Karl, these sneaky sneakers were on their way for an earlier 6 week delivery. Down low, too slow Found some neat centre caps, and spent a few hours cleaning them up and snapping the rusty bolts out of the wheels. Part two: After 3.5 years (and many assignments relating to marketing motorsport events in NZ) I got to take place in Davidson Graduation Mk2. The super special thank you must go to Rodney for flying down to see me walk briskly across Aotea stage. RX3, Mk2 graduation, Mk2 wheels, Ari Catenen Part three: Really was no better way to celebrate leaving education then to go to Japan, for my Mk2 visit. rot808 and I are off on our Asian Adventure, hopefully finding our way to all the RX3 brothers and cousins. To be continued... Pics will be on my flickr (8:08 Photography) https://www.flickr.com/photos/motoreligion or instagram (theamyable)

  2. So today I bought this: It's an MGB Roadster. It's also very rusty and features some of the most extensive bodged repairs I have ever seen. Bear in mind that this car passed a WoF in 2007: It was very cheap though. I'll brace the body and pull some of the sections back into line and then start replacing/repairing the sills, floorpans, guards, bonnet, boot floor, rear valence panel, front valence panel, bulkhead, doors etc etc etc etc. Pros: Wire wheels, Should run with a few basic repairs and some fettling Cons: EVERYTHING else.

  4. Hey Guys I've been meaning to post this project up for years but never find the time and I'm hopeless with taking photos. This project has been going on for about 8-9 years. Basically a good friend of mine has had this Chaser for years he used to sell it to people and when it rusted out he'd get it back weld some patches in it and then sell it again. I managed to convince him to give it to me back then. He had already fitted a 5mge. I bought a soarer and pulled the 1jzgte from it with plans to install it. Then after being told by a Toyota guru that there was such a thing as a Toyota V12 I managed to track one down in Japan and imported that in 2009. The thing that has made this project drag on for so long it that it's so rusty!!!. I've had to buy so many other rusty cars to get better parts from to help with the build, I've been so busy for the last 6 yeasr building my business I haven't had time to get to work on to it and trying to find a good panel beater who wants to do this kind of work has been near on impossible. It's an idiotic build but the car's rare and will be cool once done- if it is ever. I've built a chassis jig to it sits all square while we do some sill mods to help handle the torque. Thanks to Phil Bradshaw we were able to get an auto bellhousing and develop a R154 to 1GZFE bell housing so thats what we will be using to back the V12. Down the back will be a G Series unit from either a Granvia or MA70 Plans were to go 5 stud but I've decided to keep it oldschool and stay 4 stud wit SSR 15" Mesh wheels I've got some many different offsets that I'm able to play around with different options. I'm hoping this year we can get into the rust and get some progress. Sorry for the lame pics, had never planned on doing a build thread.

  6. One rotary compression tester adapter: I cut away the crimp just above the sparkplug hex, and then tapped the porcelain out with a drift. Came out really easily. Spun up a bit of bar to sit in where the porcelain has been, tapped it for 1/8NPT, and welded it in place. Screwed the sensor in with some thread tape, and it's a good-un. The supporting gear needed to actually get anything useful out of the sensor: If I find time I'll make up a simple little box with a display to give the readings, but this lets me get on with fixing this car for the moment . Front rotor: Rear rotor: They look all good. The sensor measures 0-150PSI (not sure if gauge pressure, or absolute), outputting 0.5-4.5V. Working this back, the front rotor is showing ~130psi, and the rear rotor is showing ~140psi (subtract 15psi from each of these if it turns out the pressure sensor measures absolute pressure). The peak figures don'y really matter though, outside of the fact that they're all pretty even. I forgot to open the throttle when testing anyway, so they're not really accurate. What is good though, is that all the peaks are pretty even, meaning the motor seems to be sealing well. Fuel pressure testing next! [EDIT] - I didn't work out those compression number correctly. I have confirmed that the sensor measures gauge pressure, but didn't take the 0.5V offset they have into account (they output between 0.5 and 4.5V, not 0-4V. This gives peak compression values of 112psi for the front housing, and 123psi for the rear housing. Sounds much more reasonable .

  17. Small update. Lowered the back of the car a while back by a notch. Sits much better now, much more even. Today, after many, many hours of sanding and spending a few hours polishing today, I finished my intake manifold: Will try put it on within the next week. More to come. Also, my front tyres are almost bald.

  21. Kia ora! Meet Helga, the newest edition to the line up. Just got it off TradeMe for a massive $500. Its an insurance write-off as you might be able to tell from the picture. The damage isnt that bad really, the radiator is poked (if anyone has a spare hit me up) and and the top rad support is pretty bent. It still runs just fine though and it sounds awesome! Straight six for the win! The plan for Helga is to be a paddock basher at my folks place and to also enter the Dirt Drags in October down Cambridge ways. If you own a 280SE like this one and you need some parts then let me know and I might be able to take it off as long as I can still drive it haha I've got a little to do list.... -Fix radiator/retro fit another one off something at pick a part -Weld the diff. Need all the tractions for on the dirt -Straighten up the bonnet -Strip the interior to make it light weight (hahahahahaha....... its a bloody tank!) -Mad max exhaust through the bonnet -Pod filter -Maybe give it an oil change -Any other suggestions? like I said before, if you need parts hit me up, I'd rather see them go to use then just get completely smashed up. If you have any ideas on what we can do to it then also comment. Cheers

  25. Ha yeah This guy reckons one rear wheel bearing is so bad I probably shouldn't drive it home! And rear brake imbalance. First guy this morning had no mention whatsoever of imbalance or bearing Go figure I have been going to the first place on and off for the last 7 years (not now they pulled this shit) but the new place spotted the missing reflectors first go Cletus another question, are self made shackles ok? As the front ones are broken

  27. Ok so been to another place, probably not such a good idea using a testing station but at this time of day... I got a bigger list, but at least it's sensible stuff that I can fix. He also pulled it up on body lift and I thought WHAT! seems he oversighted it on the plate. Side note- only one fail point was the same between the two sheets!

Installed some mud guards, cause I'm a practical kind of guy Rewired my headlights through relays and installed new bulbs, 100x brighter! installed a bonnet strut so i can chop the front plate out of the chevette so i can gain some much needed engine bay room This is my steering rack CUL8R, have never seen the casing with the ribs before? maybe its gemini?

  38. Well she is still cruising around in this most weekends at netball, at heaps of car shows and the odd trip to the shops. I still havent gotten around to sorting out a nicer push pole or a gear lever and the lake pipes are still sitting in the garage somewhere too! She loves cruising around in it and her typical driving style is one foot on the wheel, kicking back and people watching. Few things to note if you are going to make one. Be prepared to be stopped constantly to be asked "where did you buy that from?" or "so cute, can I take a photo?" Because it is so low to the ground my daughter sometimes gets bored and decides she wants to pick up random crap of the ground or drag her hands through the dirt. Watch out in crowds, retards wont notice it despite being bright pink and could end up tripping over it and sitting on your child. Castor wheels are not that flash on rough ground. She rattles like a bitch sometimes. Might try to rubber mount the front castor but most places we take it are nice and smooth. Women think it is the cutest thing ever and flock to it, Dad's usually look very jealous and grandparents ask if she is wearing her seat belt or has she got a drivers licence. Few shots out and about Greeting Dodgy Uncle Hayhole and Auntie Laura on his trip to Australia Spotted at car shows:

  40. When we last saw our intrepid hero he had welded up the rear strengthening panel and had cut the other end of the channel and the A pillar open. Well I don't have a photo but the rear panel is welded back in place and looks just like the other side now, I then chopped even more of the rot out and last week sandblasted the lot. front side inside the bottom lip on the front of the channel there was not as shot as the passenger side, so I decided to keep it and try to weld up the small pinholes caused but rust pits and some idiot with a spot weld drill(me). I also sandblasted the top of the sill, where the carpet holder strip was welded on. The metal had very bad surface rust and really needed sorting, I'm still in two minds about replacing this rust trap of a thing, do you guys think it would look super weird without? my other idea was to get some stainless sill steps made up to fit, any thoughts? carrying on, out with the old shit, in with the new. goes here. including my world famous pat. pending dents. just finished welding up the heat pipe last night, while I had the blaster out I cleaned up the air scoop that goes inside the channel, and bent up the inside panel that it mounts to. Just need to smooth the welds on the heat pipe out and weld into the channel, was hoping to have it done this week but i kinda forgot about the heater pipe things. Chur

  46. POST FROM NZDATSUN 04 September 2011 So the Y spat the dummy at the supermarket - died just going into a park - had to get towed by "Broke" home with the 620 using a small tie down which snapped once (terribly embarrassing in traffic) Blew a 2nd VL commy (2nd hand) fuel pump so had to fit up the surge tank iv had for ages. Got a new External Pump and Lift pump from work - all Airtek items - The Vl one is the one listed for Vectras and some Alfa's too. Decided to filter the fuel from the tank, then into the lift pump, up to fill the Surge tank. I have then mounted a Subaru filter (that i had the bracket for of the WRX STI i wrecked out) to filter the fuel from the surge before the External pump. This will hopefully help keep the pumps in good shape for alot longer. (still running a filter before the engine so TRIPLE FILTERS - what does it mean!!) Wired it all up and took it for a strop - has never run better. And also both pumps are very quiet - normally the lift/facet pumps are noisy but these are not - cant here running when car is idling even without back seat. heres the pics
