  3. Some photos from Sunday. Didnt end up taking many as just plain forgot. Two engines, an old army Dodge, some old British bike.. image sharing Me not very happy with the engine not sliding inplace onto the input shaft. I threatened it with a hammer (or a Hannah..) and it finally fitted in place.. photo sharing websites Next thing that has happened since I parked it up and has kept me entertained off and on for the last two days. Some of you will know about my woes from the tech thread I started. So I went to start it on Monday morning and adjust the warmup settings. But when I connected to the ecu and opened up the starting/warmup part of tunerstudio something threw its toys from the cot. Turns out that because I had updated my TS program a while back it didnt want to play ball with my older firmware on the ecu. So yesterday and today I have been sorting it all out. Luckily I am between jobs right now so have a few days off. I just managed to load the new latest code on this morning and the latest TS as well then spent the morning leearning my way around the new setup. The car started straight away but needs a bit of time to sort out the VE table. While it was running I noticed that the cam covers were leaking past the new seals (because British..) so I went back to my old work and grabbed the old mazda seals which I think work better. Maybe softer. I dont know. Time will tell. uploading pictures Very much looking forward to driving it tomorrow and seeing what the extra 50~60 ponies will be like in the hills!

  4. Not much of an update Pulled frame apart, the tail end unbolts which is convenient. Check out the coils, Lucas wat More interestingly, I found some photos of when I went to the '99 Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island. I managed to go as part of a 125 team so spent 5 days in the pits breathing two stroke exhaust, meeting heroes, yarning with racers and mechanics and generally having my mind blown. Tady Okada came in first followed by Max Biaggi and Regis Laconi, Kenny Roberts Jnr was in contention but retired after his tyre disintegrated. Valentino took out the 250 race and the championship. Was awesome watching the races from the pit wall Because I was just a young fella everyone assumed I was a rider, jeah I have a heap more pictures, will scan the good ones and chuck em in here

  5. OK, so this is my first ever project. Fair one, its not a massive job but I dont know much past general maintainance. So its gunna be a steep learning curve for me. I have a pretty mint stock SL/X with a mighty starfire in her. Exhibit A: I have also just purchased an SL/E that has a carbureted black 202 in it. Exhibit B: My plan is to remove the starfire from my SL/X and install the 202, power steering, brakes, suspension, trans, driveshaft, diff and tacho from the SL/E into my SL/X. The only thing more limited than my car knowledge is my budget, hence me not slapping a V8 or RB30 in it. Have started a project discussion for when my mates cant help and I need advice........might be quite often. Dont get me wrong, i am mechanicly minded and have worked on motorcycles for the past 16 years so im not a complete tard.... but have done bugger all to cars. Disccsion thread is started and the link is below //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44627-terminal220s-1982-vh-sle-sedan/#entry1368578 Boom, let the show begin.

  8. Now, this is a story all about how My car got fixed-to get out of town and I'd like to take a minute Just sit right there I'll tell you how I made it to palmy from all the way up here Right, now my attempt at being the 'Fresh Prince' is over lets get onto it. A week before Palmy Swapmeat, I decided that the Commodore was going to be my method of transport for the weekend. This story starts in saturday and goes like this. I bought a new exhaust ages ago that consisted of extractors to a large pipe to two mufflers off a guy on Instagram of all places. The previous exhaust which was a cut up mix of VL log manifold and down pipe to VK center section to VL rear section, Developed a bad rattle between 2000-3500rpm and leaked heaps. the new exhaust was all one piece so I had to lower the subframe and drop one side off the diff out as I refused to cut it. YAY EXTRACTORS! much power, many fast, very wow The next part of preparation was to get the heater system/blower fan working. So on Sunday I pulled the dash out and plumbed up all the vacuum lines for the actuators and built one good switch out if three broken ones. So I had speed 3 and 4 on the fans and vents all working! I went out to lunch amongst this with Kateums and stumbled across a mispriced head-unit ($50 cheaper than the marked price YAY!) so was convinced to buy that (after owning the car for three years and wanting a stereo the whole time) and four speakers. Turns out Id have to wire that in from scratch, and cut holes in doors for speakers and figure out how to mount the head-unit. Extended wires to wiper switch and temporarily (read permanently) mounted that. Then sorted a little center storage compartment to finish below the dash for now. you can see below: Wiper switch right hand air vent. Temp gauge in compartment under dash. All light up nice and bright so super easy to see at night too Got car back together by Thursday morning, spent thursday getting gas, checking fluids, sorting tools, packing bag ect and Friday morning met at the top of the Bombays with a bunch of members from Manukau Road & Custom to cruise down to Palmy. Was probably the best drive ive had in a while. Big convoy and a nice spirited back road drive down. Stopped in Waiouru for gas/food. One of the cars in the convoy developed a slight miss just after waiouru (plug lead popped off) and another had a tire delaminate just before bulls. Spare didn't match due to other Pontiac they owned being american built not Canadian. run around to a local tyre shop at 4pm on Friday for tires to be swapped between rims. back on and through to Palmy. Went to swapmeat, bought a few things. Went to Kruzin Kustoms for a look. Attended OldSchool Saturday night shenanigans. Crappy Iphone night photo with Ogres Coon Father made us leave at 9am on sunday to head home. Went home via the Desert road. went exploring on the Tuikino mountain road but had to turn around after crossing a few smaller puddles before coming to this creek that was too soft to drive through and knocking my bumper off once Got car home and tucked it up in the garage for a well deserved rest. 1300km over 3 days and she preformed flawlessy. and Its absolutley filthy. Suppose ill give her a wash on the weekend

  10. I've been looking for ages and many can confirm I'm a fussy bugger but finally found my original untouched 1600 sport. Car is in original condition so there are many little jobs to do to get it back to full glory, Ill endevour to keep you all updated, but for now check out the pics. I have also moved to Napier now so big shout to all the OS boys and girls down here give us a shout. Made the mistake of putting 91 in but quickly remedied the knocking

  12. While I was overseas last year I managed to find the time to do a quick bit of TradeMe browsing. Now I've always been a fan of American vehicles of the 40's, so when this Chevy popped up locally it caught my eye. I tried for a few days to contact the seller so I could send my brother to take a look but every day I received no reply and every day the trucks price dropped. Eventually I decided enough was enough and hit the buy now from my computer on the other side of the world. Almost immediately the owner emailed me and as luck would have it he owned a tow truck, so it delivered to my driveway, beating me home by three weeks. Here's a few pics of what greeted me when I arrived. Call me crazy over here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/41876-di0ns-thrifted-thriftmaster/

  13. Dunno if anyone is into technical books, but the Capital Books shop on Featherston St is closing down. They have 25% off everything. There are quite a few car books, IT stuff, military, modelling (railway airfix etc) in there. Have been in twice now looking, but the book I really wanted was still over $80. (I'm cheep).

  15. Anyway, the spring platforms ended up being a little bit off, and not allowing the spring to sit flat against each surface (top and bottom) with the spring fully uncompressed... as we overcompensated somewhat for the diff movement under compression. This resulted in not having enough droop travel when the spring seated flat when under some compression. So this evening sheepers popped around and modified the location of the platforms. Now it all sits as it should, with totally acceptable droop and compression travel. Also, other things: IMG_4533 by Richard Opie, on Flickr Bearings pressed onto axles, now! IMG_4559 by Richard Opie, on Flickr New Bilstein rear shocks, acquired! IMG_4569 by Richard Opie, on Flickr This is a TRD 2way LSD center. T code 4.3:1 ratio. Lush. IMG_4578 by Richard Opie, on Flickr Stack of goodies, new carrier bearings, new pinion bearings and a new crush tube. Diff carrier has been acid dipped and I'll paint it prior to assembly. IMG_4553 by Richard Opie, on Flickr On it's wheels for the time being... it's been a while!!! But happy with the height, and especially the room I now have to play with in the rear guards with the narrower diff.

  18. Done a few small bits and pieces lately. Nothing that exciting as a) it's fucking cold and have zero motivation/heaps of other stz going on lately rally car, rallying, having a girlfriend 4 hrs away and a drinking problem is succeeding excellently at emptying my bank account a couple days after each paycheck.. Oh yeah and new reyums for new daily/towcar (just thought I'd share) just need to get it tinted now.. New shed is super lush as well Bought a new racetech seat for this thing as my other seats are currently living in the rally car. Hopefully won't be forever but with the goal of going fast on backroads/doing targa eventually I thought it would be better to spend the money on safety.. Bit annoyed as it was advertised as good condition but I'd call it rough at best. Heaps of holes in fabric and is dirty as he'll. Think I'll be ringing up racetech and ordering a new cover to male this look brand new again. It's a 4000WHR (wide head restraint) and is slightly challenging to fit in the hole. Need to cut out tunnel and replace with panel for seat mounting. Just need to find some time and motivation. Mounted the heater some time ago with sweet little brackets and lots of cap screws/rivnuts Also properly mounted my gear shifter thingy with stainless cap screws and all the correct fasteners. Spent like $200 on fasteners so far so will see plenty more stainless cap screws and rivnuts as this car progresses Starting to design all the linkages and shifting mechanisms in my head but trying to hold off modeling them until I get some work done on the calf feeder as that will actually earn me money! Sorted rear brake mounting finally to the standard I wanted.. loved using my drill press.. Also bought some new trumpets. Took frigging ages to arrive from T3 and had to chase them for 2 months but got them eventually

  19. TBH, you aren't going to get a "quality" coil over for $1500, but you will get one that is more than capable of doing the job you require. I would get some Fortune Auto ones if I was you/ had your price range. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/performance/suspension-braces/auction-762736346.htm

  20. I'd be wary of those Trademe alloy radiators, a lot of them suffer from poor construction and flow. Are we talking the likes of the ones with TIG'd end tanks as opposed to plastic ones? By far the best alloy radiator I've seen and used was a 68mm thick $1000 PWR one... but I'm biased as this is what I ended up purchasing. I've had good results from having copper ones reconditioned with brand new cores, there is a place up here in Auckland that still does them.

  24. I have had Tein and now have Fortune Auto 500 series, difference is night and day. Fortune Auto are soooo much nicer to live with, actually absorb bumps rather than smash into them. Would recommend Fortune Auto to all, especially considering they are cheaper than buying new Tein and not much more than D2/Ksport/Other generic taiwenese stuff

  25. Going brand new? I had exceptional experience with Tein in my Torneo, I ran the Mono Flex which was (as the name suggests) a mono tube type shock, damper adjustable, body and platform adjustable. Ran 10 and 12kg springs on the road, and the car rode like a magic carpet. Tein has local service agents who carry stock of spare and can rebuild in the event of shock disaster. Before that it had D2's in it, which I initially thought were ok, then I switched and I decided they were actually rubbish. Barry at MRP may be able to sort you with a set of Fortune Auto units, which I have also heard good feedback on... plus they'll valve to suit your requested spring rates I believe.

  33. Popped out the passenger windows, expected some rust behind the rubber but not that much. Cut the surround out, tacked in the new panel then fully welded in. Alot of hours spent cutting the panel, sizing it up and re positioning the panel til i was happy with it Sand, prime and start work on the passenger flare

  36. I got it sitting pretty up front, but it wouldn't turn and the arms were touching the inner guard. Real lame. Missed out on a few events over the weekend. Got some v8 hq super lows and we're back in business but it's 30mm too low. I plan to run some steelies so that will lift it a bit and will look into those urethane coil spacers that go where a factory rubber would go in a more modern car if it's still a bit boned. Polished up the interior handles, mirror bracket, painted mirror because it was aced, door cars pulled off in preparation for my 6x9 turning up 2moro. The doors have a big chrome trim that will get in the way of the speakers so will have to trim the surrounds. If it looks like a failure I'll mount in the back doors or kick panels.

  39. Been plodding away at this after work and weekends when time allows.. Bent up the Shoulder plate bars, and plasma cut the 3mm plate out.. Did a small pick a part mission, got a wee suzuki alternator, swapped the pulleys over from the AU serpentine - all it needed was a small shim behind the pulley to get the right clearance, same OD/ID - and 1/4 of the size & weight! Also made this tensioner up from a EFI EB Falcon, had to make some bosses up to get the belts lining up. AU Serpentine pulley swapped over with a small shim behind as well! Sat the topolino Bonnet off the old car onto this, was a little wide, had some old holes and the scoop was on the turps, just wouldn't do.. So with some help from a school friend from years ago, I got to learn some fibreglassing - I also trimmed the body to tuck behind the rear overrider bar - rather not have the back end mangled up Eagle eyed among you may notice front bumper is on, along with "radiator hoop", supports, plate, and corner supports for the bumper. Got a fair bit more done today, but forgot to take pics/ran out of gas too.

  41. Afternoon guys been a while ..... been flat out working and spending money on this thing again haha so heres a run down so much is changing for the new season coming up in October... ooo and theres a few nice little trick parts underconstruction they will be a suprise .... currently waiting for new tarox front brake rotors to arrive from the uk so for now nots much is happing in the front suspenion area so have had the exhaust back from the coaters and have installed the system now so now for the start of the exciting part of the rear custom alloy hubs will update once fitted just got them back from the anodiser rear backing plates are painted and fitted ready to go this year we going to remove that massive hump that made our car differnet now we have a new bonnet while the other one has been signed by the guys and girls that have helped and is awaiting fittment on to the shed wall so heres the start of the new hood now also removed all the alloy from the pannels and have put carbon in its place the rear parcel tray now the doors were a pain to hold there shape so i improvised and persuaded them to shape final product of the doors so thats it for now more to come im sure

  42. Trying to keep motivation high for this. The great thing about these bikes is that they share a lot with other models like the R5's, RD250/350's, RZ250/350's and also the Banshee quads. Another good thing is that ever since they came out people have been tuning them for HP/top speed and flogging them mercilessly on the street, tracks and drag strips, as a result there is tons of info available. For example I now have a range of parts from different machines to stick in mine. -Clutch friction plates from an FZR1000 -Small end bearings from a Kawasaki H1 -Exhaust gaskets from a Suzuki GS1000 -Reeds from a YZ125 -Intakes and carbs from an RZ -TZR front caliper -FZR front disc -RZ350 rear master cylinder and caliper etc etc I also bit the bullet and have some spoked RD250 rims coming, the rear from the UK and the front from Japan haha Also have some new forks now, strangely just like my last bike the ones it came with were mismatched Cylinders are still away getting bored, just waiting on the last of the seals to arrive before splitting the cases. More cool pics

Couldn't resist sitting the body on even though its not cut properly - sitting up at the front Started chopping body to get it sitting right still got the rear to go.. Onto shoulder plates next. Under rider and over rider bars welded on - thanks Colin for Bending them up, I borrowed his bonnet for a sneaky pic too..

  46. Hello. I haven't been up to much lately on this thing. just enjoying driving it really. but in other news I got rid of my two leftover parts cars. As you know I had a VL wagon. I also purchased a bare VK sedan shell off tardme which i was going to use to replace some rusty parts in my VK. mainly passengers floor-pan and Left rear wheelarch. Pretty much once i had the motor/box/front suspension out of the wagon and it being immobile in the back yard, (along with the VK shell) my mother put up with it for a few months but then wanted her lawn back. SoI ended up stripping the wagon shell and cutting the nose off it aswell as using the floor and both quarters for repairs on my car. That shell ended up being taken to the scrapyard They pretty much grabbed it by the roof with there big claw crane and tossed it at the pile from a distance. It then proceeded to roll down to the bottom and land where it was in that photo. That pretty much has made me anti scrapping cars scrap yards have no respect for them in there final journeys. With that I decided to try and on sell the VK sedan shell that mother wanted gone as it was in to gooder nick to be cut up so I thought id try give it one more chance. Just as well I did, Sold it to a guy whose going to supposedly use it to reshell his VK race car that was involved in a big accident.
