Two uni students came to a Taupo trackday, back when it was the old small track. One was in a 3 cyl NA diahatsu Mira, and the other was in a 1500cc Ford Fiesta canvas top. These cars were super closely matched in speed etc, and they were out there all day just absoluting wailing on their cars chasing each other around. They came back into the pits with hugest grins, and everyone spectating was just loving watching these cars go 20 out of 10. So good. While other people grumbling that their semi slicks were getting hot or something. Zero fucks given and max enjoyment. It was like a mini Best Motoring video or something. haha. Similar story, I'd done a few uni track days at Ruapuna with my VR6 golf and my mustang, they were fast and that was plenty of fun. Then went one time when it was drizzling and greasy, in my 1300cc grandad spec mk1 escort along with my flatmate in his 1000cc mini. We had THE BEST time. Absolutely beating the snot out of these poor old cars, sliding around, chasing each other, not actually going super fast but it was so much fun because it didn't feel like we would die if we left the track. 12 Quote

If I was doing a K swap or 2ZZ swap, this car probably wouldnt even be going yet. But I learned so much from it during that short time span, it was awesome. 4K would have dropped straight in, a 7/8 race cam and you'd be laughing / I'm pretty sure this thing of yours was only like a second slower on the quarter mile at drag day than my brother's Capri, but his thing is more traction limited Quote

So maybe what closer to 200whp? 1 Quote

Roman Posted November 22, 2024 Author Posted November 22, 2024 Hahaha its all good fun aye! I think part of the issue was just the way the article presented it. By which I mean, when I posted the trackday video first somewhere, it gets a really positive reception. Then people ask what's in it, and cant believe it. But then if you tell it by the numbers first, no one wants to watch a trackday video that validates the fact that it did indeed go quite good. Then another issue was that the article sort of made it sound like it was making 150hp at the engine. Which on an American or UK dyno means about 30whp. 4 Quote

Muncie Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Can we crowd fund again it was awesome diverting some of my project money and seeing it get results? I'd love to see a 1nz mini @Roman Quote
lowlancer Posted March 27 Posted March 27 Crowdfund @Roman to 1NZ swap someone's neglected project IMO 1 Quote
Popular Post Roman Posted March 27 Author Popular Post Posted March 27 Well, someone else is carrying on and waving the 1NZ flag which is great. Marino from Whangarei took his vitz to the Garage1NZ workshop for some dyno tuning today. It's an iterative improvement on some things that I did. So its an earlier 1NZFXE, with the mechanical waterpump. The innermotive 264 deg cams and valve springs from Thailand. (about half the price of JUN/BC stuff) 20v throttles, 4-1 manifold and a 3" exhaust I think. Sneak peak at @kpr's new youtube channel logo: Made a delicious ~160whp at 8500rpm And deserves honorary oldschool.co.nz membership for adding some 13" wheels and slam. Good shit Marino! Love it. 21 2 Quote

I'd love to see a 1nz mini @Roman I am more than happy for people to pay me to build 1NZ motors haha. Next project is repowering my partner's mini. They actually do make some kits to bolt a 1NZ and C56 box in. Might be a nice option but see how I go. Engine bay is insanely tiny. 5 Quote
igor Posted March 27 Posted March 27 A proper OS mini? Clubman front might be worth considering for the extra couple of inches length. 1 Quote
