87creepin Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 Where do you guys get gun wash from, and is it cheaper/better than thinners for cleaning out your guns? also I don’t have a gun wash machine soo would an old steel pot suffice? I currently just clean parts off in a mixing cup but reckon the paint pots need a good soak. About paint pots, do any of you use the disposable type? I’m thinking about getting these https://www.spraygunsdirect.co.uk/product/sagola-dpc400-paint-cup-kit-400ml-different-grades-available-ptdpc-400-125-ptdpc-400-190/ as they’re name brand and cheapest on that website. Aliex do them too but it’s always a risk with them. Quote
tortron Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 I get 20L at a time from PBS, last a long time as you don't need all that much. About 80bucks I have an old stainless steel sink. That drains into the previous 20L container Quote
dmulally Posted February 11, 2024 Posted February 11, 2024 I didn't know gun wash was a thing so I'll have to check it out. I just buy my thinners in bulk and use that. 1 Quote
Positive Ape Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 In semi-related paint-barry chat i have an expensive Legend house paint brush that got gummed up with water based paint+insufficient cleaning+years of storage I bought some resene brush cleaner which is toluene i think. Maybe the same as gun wash? i soaked the brush in that for a while and it’s brought it back to life 1 Quote
zep Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 Hey all, does anyone have any tips for prepping and spraying textured interior plastic? I've been looking on YouTube and most of the videos seem to talk about smoothing it out first and are aimed at exterior parts like bumpers and door handles. This is what I'm working with: Quote

87creepin Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 A light scuff with a fine/superfine scuff pad might work. Quote
dmulally Posted March 6, 2024 Posted March 6, 2024 I'd scrub it with a nail brush first and paint it with a couple of light dustings with no primer. Quote
dmulally Posted April 5, 2024 Posted April 5, 2024 I'm about to get the landy vapour blasted as it has too much bog and house paint on it. It has been an eternity since I have painted a car in bare metal and I'm not sure I have ever done alloy panels. Is Epotec primer still a thing? 1 Quote

I used epotec 408 on some panel repairs to the Defender cos its all I had a the time and its still sticking. Think @nzstato had some fancy aluminium primer for his? 1 Quote
MACKAZ Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 I’ve scored a conventional spray gun that’s been sitting for years. It’s been left unwashed for quite a while. Anyway I managed to get the pot off the bottom, it tore the seal unsurprisingly. I managed to get the needle out and strip it down to the best of my abilities. I’m assuming it is enamel as person I got it off would only work with enamel. Anyone know what I can soak this turd in to get rid of the build up? Also is the saying “you can put enamel over lacquer but not lacquer over enamel” correct? I want to use a high build primer underneath that I think will be lacquer I don’t trust paint shops after the Vulcan paint debacle…. 1 Quote
tortron Posted May 8, 2024 Posted May 8, 2024 I soaked one I forgot about for years with durapox and enamel stuck in it in plain old gunwash, in a hot bath a couple times. Then Let it soak, scrubbed daily, and r4placed th3 gunwash in it every few days Some pipe cleaners delt to the rest. Wasn't that bad tbh 2 Quote
87creepin Posted May 20, 2024 Posted May 20, 2024 Are there any local suppliers that do inline filters/regulators that aren’t crap but not too expensive? I have a black ridge SCA one and it’s not doing its job May just have to order an inline single stage and one that goes just before your gun/tool at the other end of the air line from Spray Guns Direct. $100 shipped from the UK Quote
Bling Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Could come down to setup. For a water trap to work the air needs to cool a bit so having at it compressor is a waste of time. If the compressor is working it's arse off too, that will be creating more heat which won't help. If you can have the trap a decent distance from the compressor it will give the air a chance to cool a little and could help it work better. Depends how you have it setup really. I'm sure local compressor suppliers will have traps available. When I got mine from Marquip they had all the bits available. Probably just reselling aliexpress bits, but still available. 2 Quote
87creepin Posted May 21, 2024 Posted May 21, 2024 Hmm mine is about 3m away from the compressor and about 1.8m high. It’s probably compressor working it’s arse off as i don’t get water when spraying at lower pressures. Quote
dmulally Posted May 23, 2024 Posted May 23, 2024 I just run my air hose over a rafter from the compressor and the water separator near the gun end. Not sure if the rafter thing does anything but makes it easy to get the hose out of the way when I'm done to hang on the wall. 2 Quote
87creepin Posted June 10, 2024 Posted June 10, 2024 Do you guys recommend removing the small filter that sits beneath the paint cup? I saw This paint society video on YouTube and tldr he recommends a) straining the paint and b) using the fancy disposable liner systems that have a filter built in, which negates the use of the small filter. I'm using paper cone filters but have traditional reusable cups. Quote
