lowlancer Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 What's everyone's go-to for non 2k black? Keen on satin finish, reasonably durable (accepting I'll not get to the 2k levels of toughness). Would the below suffice? CONCEPT 402 QD SATIN BLACK ENAMEL 1L Quote

CONCEPT 402 QD SATIN BLACK ENAMEL 1L Remember with Saturn finish you can't buff or hardly even wash anything cos it'll make its gloss Quote
tortron Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 I used John Deere satin black in my morrie, like 15 years ago. It's still on, still satin, still black. I haven't noticed any particularly gloss parts, but I probably only wash the dust off once a year Quote
lowlancer Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Interesting. Painted lots of parts on my newer Pajero satin black and none of it has gone glossy. I just used spray cans, but the results aren't very resistant to scratches. Quote
lowlancer Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Got some hearty as pitted rust going on with this chassis leg. Have tried grinding/sanding/evaporust/phosphoric soaking and this is as good as I seem to be able to get it. Short of cutting this portion out, is it even possible to neutralize this before painting? Spent a long time on this, keen to get some paint down. Quote

Nominal Posted January 7 Posted January 7 OK, so sandblasting would probably work. I've tried picking at the rust with a scriber or something else sharp and hard. Or get the grinder out and cut/replace that piece. It looks the pitting is quite deep and might be weakening the rail. Another hack would be to zap up the pits with a mig then grind flat. 2 Quote

lowlancer Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Can confirm cup attachment goes hard^ What filter is everyone using on 3m masks for painting with 2k? Keen to not root my lungs tbh Quote
Spencer Posted January 11 Posted January 11 The ones they come with at Bunnings are what you want. If it’s just epoxy primer it’s not going to murder you, just use the 3m mask and supplied filters and you are good. 2k urethane you want to go to the next level and cover your skin and eyes best you can. 1 Quote

tortron Posted January 11 Posted January 11 Gloves, hooded overalls, and glasses cover pretty much everything else You should really have a positive air mask for 2k, but as you are painting 1 car it's OK imo to just do what you can iykwim Quote
