  2. That is called a vac-u-pan system, been around since KY wore nappies. Relies on venturi effect in the exhaust to suck fumes into the exhaust, usually a drag car thing. Not sure how well it would work in a road car

  5. Thanks man. Have now finished the manifold after hole sawing both sides/scrolls for the two wastegates and figuring out a position that would clear everything and still be able to access them to change the springs.

  7. Good opportunity to get some airbrushing done maybe of a tiger or a scary skeleton playing poker with scantily clad ladys or some dollar signs or a muscley viking riding a dragon. You know what i mean, something classy.

  12. If i was checking that it would be ok, not all modern engines have a vacuum operated pcv system, so a breather pipe into the air filter would be acceptable. Diesels are a good example, no vacuum means they dont have a PCV valve someone with a sense of humor has written in the definition section.... http://lvvta.org.nz/documents/standards/LVVTA_STD_Exhaust_Gas_Emissions.pdf

  13. Done some things to the engine bay. Polished up a rocker cover, painted a couple things, changed the air filter to a K&N one and made a strut brace out of stainless steel and aluminium round bar. I think next up is to make some heater lines out of stainless steel tube, as having a working heater is kind of nice.

  15. 2016-08-22_03-55-20 by Richard Opie, on Flickr Chucked the wheels on, and adjusted the aprings to ensure a lower ride height with an increased spring rate. Also replaced stuff on Saturday, including: - rear main seal - rear main seal housing gasket - sump gasket - input shaft seal - full clutch kit No bolts left over.

  16. Couldn't find any front brake rotors the correct size, the smallest I could find was 226mm diameter ones whereas I needed 205mm ones. So we made a pattern and got some cast and then machined. Installed them today along with new pads and wheels bearings

  18. I have seen a few threads about people getting wheels sand blasted, or paint strippered, or oven cleanered, or whatever. I have had some MA61 celica/supra wheels which looked like absolute trash, they look like they had been under the ocean for the last 30 years. I took them to powerstrip in Penrose, $230 for 4 wheels to be stripped completely clean and I'm fairly impressed. It took about a week because they need to soak in a tank for ages for the process to work. The surface finish is now something like 800 or 1000 grit sandpaper, they certainly dont come out shiny. Considering that these were caked with dirt, and painted, and stained, and whatever else. I think it has been a worthwhile process. As it would take many hours of sand blasting/degreasing/etc to acheive the same thing. Will report back to this thread when I get them polished etc. Previously: Now:

  21. Calling all regular attendees and new! Time to start thinking about this year's Highlands 101... Fri 11th thru Sun 13th November 2016 in Cromwell, Central Otago. This year Jonny/Kiwi808 has kindly volunteered his house, situated halfway between Cromwell and Wanaka, as a possible base of operations. Stay posted for more details to come. Last year we ended up doing a heap of exploring/sightseeing in addition to spending time at the track, which worked out pretty lush. Perhaps for 2016 we should check out Wanaka instead of Queenstown? In the meantime, post general event discussion and itinerary ideas here! Choice. ...where did you find that random Asian tourist?

  33. Still have silver coupe, getting stripped it out track car spec. Motor is half out waiting on light flywheel and clutch to fit up the ZF 5 speed. Still have another coupe that I need to wof and sell. Bought this on Sat. M3 Evo 6 speed. Love it, so fun to drive.

  34. Since it seems like every other KP owner makes another improved set of adjustable coilovers, I thought I'd follow that tradition. Used some ae82 Corolla shock inserts this time, way shorter than the previous ones. Drilled off the brake hose mounts and dropped them 30mm lower as well, so the threaded sleeve could go lower. Picked up a pair of Recaro seats as well. So much nicer than the faded pink factory ones. Also so much better sitting lower. Need to do something to those belt buckles though! Coilovers can still be wound down 25mm (captive) or 35mm (non-captive) but was rubbing way too much. Back needs to come down an inch or so now.

  35. yea, so it goes really well now. 14 pounds equates to about fuck all rpm so its interesting to drive. its got a LOT of pull from basically idle and it makes boost almost instantly. the joys of a small turbo i suppose. now to do some more Ks in it and see if anything wants to have a melt down. it would be nice if this is the end of things shitting themselves.

  37. I didn't really need another car. I was pretty set to pass on owning it due to already having a moderate to large fleet of broken down shitters, impending surgery and another child being due in the coming months. With sitting for so long. it needed a bit of recommissioning work. due to not having alot of time at the moment due to some of the above things I was going to throw it under a tarp and forget about it for a few months. Dan (DPNS) - a mega GC was not overly keen on this happening. Since his project is currently on hold decided that he would take the lancer and get it running. this was relatively uneventful. the hardest part of it being that the fuel tank was blocked. I took it to the radiator shop to have it steam cleaned. Turned out it had rusted out inside and blocked the outlet from sitting with fuel in it for so long. It took a wee bit of messaging and calling people to find a tank. i eventually found one through a friend of a friend of a friend Dan installed it then drove it around to mine. next up I need to do a full oil/coolant etc service, replace the super crunchy rad hoses and attempt a wof.

  44. Made some coilovers. Ended up getting MR2 inserts I think, they weren't really short enough and 5kg springs. I shortened the struts and TIG welded them up. Applied paint Test fitted and the springs were too hard, didn't go anywhere low enough unless I pulled out the keeper springs and wound the collars right down. De-sprung the rear to see how low it could go. Removed the bump stops as well Did some calculating and figured some 3kg springs would be better and shortened the insert shaft a bit. Bought some cheap evo camber plates and drew up some new top hats to get laser cut. Cut another coil off the rear springs and installed some shorted shocks, so this is how it sits now. Hopefully settles a bit lower. Bought another K50 shifter housing thanks to enzee. Shifts much smoother without the one that's been brazed and welded!

  45. Now has a K50 in it, so no longer sits at ~3600rpm at 100kmh Also bought some struts to start cutting up for more low!
