  2. All four wheel lips done, ready for painting now which will hopefully happen next week. Should have them on by next weekend. Also installed some more shiny bits in the engine bay. Raised the boost a bit too, goes noticeably harder now. See you all at the drags tomorrow.

  3. i had a bagged truck for a few years converted a stock ac pump, that turned into a electric engine brake pretty quick- not enough lube ran a scuba tank for a while- that was a pain in the ass. ran out of air a couple of times converted a york ac pump- that was good, fast, plenty of air then i had to go to 2 viair 380s because no room with 1uz from memory it had a 5 gal tank, from laid out to all up was enough for the pumps to start

  4. Time for a bit of a update; Welded the head plate, fish plates for chassis rails. Got green sheeted, had to tweak & alter a few things, lengthened the driveshaft. Took it out to a local black track for a run in, stopped, turned and seemed to go well, so rather than pull in and check I just went for it, went really rather well indeed. Made a few alterations after the test day.. Changed the diff head, radiator hose setup & fuel hoses. Near complete chassis Carby, Breather Setup Roof plate welded, hot work welding 10mm plate! Went to Woodford Glen for my first meeting in the car, had a fantastic bunch of people helping with the car which made for a stress free night, didnt have to worry about a thing. Proud to display RO Jones on the car, fantastic Job Scott & the team did painting the body, bonnet & dash! Stands out supremely well!! 33 cars fronted for the the night, I started all of them off the rear of the grid as I wanted to stay out of the way, whilst I get to grips with the car without pin balling around. First race went well in the fact I finished the race, 21st (22 finished), but the gearing was all wrong. Race 2 we put the RR onto the LR and the largest tyre I had onto the RR (225/75r15), instantly shaving 1.5 second off my best lap time from the race prior. Finishing 13th Race 3 we made no changes however the track was very slick and lots of people were spinning up. No faster this race, but managed 10th from the rear. Have a few changes to make again, and will try something with the rear end, but overall it handled well. Driver just needs to get up to scratch a little - more consistent. Big thank you to all involved who have helped along the way, advice, parts, time or materials. Thanks to the crew that came and gave a helping hand; Tim, Caitlyn, Crystal & Matt. - All made for a stress free first night. A few tweaks to be done, but overall very happy with the car finishing 3 from 3 races. Started them all off the back and went forward so that's a bonus! Especially big thanks to the Read & Blyth family's for their generous support throughout building the car. RO Jones for the painting of the Body, bonnet, Dash. Fast Blast - sandblasting wheels, components, advice, help in time & materials also Mag & Turbo of course for being on board right from the start, wheels, tyres

  6. had a fettle with series one tonight.. filled it with water. jumper leads on 20+ year old battery. picked up the piece of firewall that's fallen down that contains ignition switch and gauges (wasn't expecting much) turned key on and push starter button. turr rurrr rurrrr. let it wind over a bit to splash oil round. no spark. points grubby and dead coil. sorted that. big hole in fuel tank (rust) so just squirted a whole lot of crc down the carb, then brake cleaner in the float chamber breather tube thing. turr rurr rurrr vrrommm!!! runs pretty good. started on 5cyl then promptly picked up number six. only a small puff of smoke from the crc i reckon. mean. seems to run a lot quieter than the engine in my good one. whipped three plugs out once it'd run a few minutes and did a compression check. 165-170 on all three. I'm happy with that. while it's out of this thing coz it's easy: - whip the head off and get ol' mate jim to give it a lick with the die grinder. -smash a bit nicer cam at it to give a little more pep and new lifters -play with the dizzy -metal timing gears if not already fitted (this engine was rebuilt and only had a few thousand miles on it apparently so maybe it already has them. was quite whiney up front compared to others) -check bigends and oil pump. -chuck a new water pump etc on and give it a pretty basic tidy up. pretty hilarious. the gearbox crossmember pretty much broke away completely from the chassis while all this was going on. i'm pretty much not gonna try cut a lap round the block in this one haha.

  7. Also purchased this a while ago, an original rubber sport spoiler. Was trying to find where to put the number plate holes so it was time to get the spoiler out and try it. Thoughts? Obviously would be colour matched to the body. Also have the other type of grill, and chrome and sport bumpers to play with as well. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/43995-bmxnz11s-mk2-escort-van/

  8. So as I've always been keen to jump on any old bandwagon, I too have decided to get myself a little scoot for some summer cruising. Picked myself a bargain from Kicker and it was kindly dropped off to my lockup a month or so back by the lovely Joe and Jeremy. I was busy with other things up until now but found myself with a spare hour or two on Wednesday and ripped into getting it running which was extremely easy. Having not ridden a motorbike for several (read 20) years I went for a quick jaunt up and down the road reminding myself about clutchless 3 speeds and how smooth they are not to ride. That will come with time though. Plans are Change the handlebars to a bicycle type. Run a digital bike speedo. Mount a headlight nice and low on the forks. Tidy up the leg guard cracks with a few coloured cable ties and a JDM shopping list Build up a thicker seat for me bum. Tidy up the rust with a bit of a combination of rust killer, paint or part replacement. Some new rear shocks with a higher spring rating for my fat ass. Change the gear shifter into an up-down toe shifter rather than heel and toe cos my big feet seem to make it difficult. Also want to change the rear brakes to a left hand control. I'm used to it on pushbikes and also will satisfy my symmetrical OCD requirements. Not sure if parts are available to do all of these things or if I need to fabricate but will start scouring round the internet now - unless someone else has seen these parts and can put me in the right direction. Pic for thread... and another This is the kinda look I want to go for - but narrower bars. (I know its a Yamaha)

  9. Few more pics, Had to redesign the remote after the first run, Originally it was designed to be in the off position at 6oclock ,standby at 9, throttle from 9 to 4, but I kept accidentally shutting the engine off when throttling down. So I added a 2nd switch, the top switch is power and bottom one is standby/ run so the throttle is now adjustable on for the entire range of the rotary knob, all I need to to to shut down normally is turn the throttle to minimum and throw the4 bottom switch to standby which lets it stay powered for the cooling cycle. Here's a couple of pics of the unit on it's own, it's designed to be added to any healing cruiser and just uses the seat bolt to attach. and the final touch, the tank stickers ,thanks to Bangbug for printing these off last minute.

  10. Dive tank just has a regulator on the top of it that knocks it back to 150psi or whatever, that goes into the main tank so you don't need 3000psi safe valves etc

  15. Good evening and welcome. I sold up my "modern" car and bought a Hillman Hunter. The initial plan was to buy and maybe slam on wide steel, but after an eventful evening, i think i'll just keep it nice and factory and do a little bit of resto work on it. here's some pics from the day i bought it very potato spec pics Here's some pics from it's first proper drive with me behind the wheel and here's a pic from an hour into its first drive. and that's my story. 18. It's too late and hot for this but I'll give this a jam. Min to max lift of biggest bag of mine to 100 psi (lots psi, max lift) 1.6L per airbag x 4 = 6.4L Lets say 100 psi all round @20 degrees (9.37g/l) Tank pressure 200 psi @20C (17.54g/l) 17.54g - 9.37g = 8.17g / 9.37g/l = 0.87L (per 100 psi drop per litre tank volume) 6.4/.87 = ~7.36 L (1.94 us gallon tank would balance out bags and tank at 100 psi) Or am I waaaaaaaaay off
    1 point
  19. fuck, none of those stats are the same for my car. i got a 5 gal tank and it runs at 150 psi max. ride height is 70psi front and 30 psi rear. it'll go up and down like 7 or 8 times before the tank runs out. the compressor is pretty quiet and when your driving you can't hear it. it takes about 4 minutes to fill from dead empty but its never at that level. up and down a few times and it might run for a minute or so? i just looked at the ride tech website and the compressor they list now is different to my one. I'm not sure what my one is but it looks OEM for something euro. i reckon it would push higher than 150 with no issue, it doesn't slow down much in rate of climb as it gets to 150. car weighs 1300ish.

Thought I had fixed the electrical issue in the AP6 but it died again on me today hopefully something simple so its going for Sunday x Looking for some 1966 VC wagon live plates and tags if y'all can ask around for me - would save me some hassles with getting it back on the road got a dirty cam lined up for it now too! Best xmas present a girl can get!

  21. haha, yeah this is choice, and i do see where you're at spence. ever enjoyed doing burnouts? same type of knobbery as hitting switches. it's called 'fun' engine driven comp has got to be the best option, but again - cost and CBF i still dont know where this 200psi idea is coming from. however, 3000 psi can be reduced to 2679, 10, 56 or even 120 psi with a regulator.. theyre crazy like that. presumably you would need to build a small amount of HP gear for the system though, but its just not that tricky. not sure how a 5gal tank is wiser than a 3gal tank with regards to space? anyway, moral of the story is rookie should put 12 batts, 1 pump, and 1 switch in his car.
    1 point
  22. yeah, CBF levels change. i meant run the dive tank at lower pressures suited to the off the shelf compressors once it's down at that pressure, as if it was just your average 3gal airride tank.
    1 point
  23. manu has a point in that a "3 gal" dive tank or similar at 3000psi has the equivalent of "45 gal" of air in it your problem is getting a pump that will do those much higher pressures, plus a reliable pressure reducing valve and saftey valve such that you dont blow the downstream stuff to bits. also downside is that high pressure compressor will no doubt take some time to fill the tank unless it is half the size of the car. my guess is in most cases putting a second pump and a bigger tank at 200psi is simpler and easier because you can just buy the stuff and know it works and requires less one off engineering. plus finding a high pressure air compressor that is not a big one for filling dive bottles is going to be hard.
    1 point
  24. there will be times when you want to do that twice in a row, with 8 people in the car, in one carpark. nope, no one wants to hop, you aren't required to run 200psi to the bags if you have a dive tank. my guess is it'll appear to be a better idea to inch the dimensions of a conventional system up until it can supply just enough to do the job, but would you build a hot rod like that? and for the sake of argument on a friday avo cos we love this shit, designing a system to work with an internationally standardised, modular pressure vessel seems to me less stopgap than using one designed with appearance and boot space more in mind. i dont even know what car we're talking about.

  25. Rookie here's my experience with the crown, it had a 5 gal tank and I would run it up to like 160psi, that was just enough to go up from full drop once. It had one decent sized Viair compressor and it took forever to pump up, you need minimum of 2 electric compressors and a well thought out housing for them, rubber mounted in a enclosure that has ventilation to minimize the god awful noise. Crown weighed maybe 1600-1700kg and needed like 90-100psi in the front and 40-60 in the back at ride height. One compressor and a 1 gal tank sounds like the worst thing ever, you will need to go engine driven with a tank that small.

  26. the more i look at it the more i like the colour. i reckon its just dark enough without being to black and its just black enough to be not to bright. its Rosso red. which has a couple of different codes. ill get the code for this particular version. its red base with about a quarter magenta and a drop of black. that's it.
    1 point
  27. Keen to see what that red looks like outside on teh body, might have to steal the code off you for the 110 if it passes muster.

  28. I quite like that red also. I think it looks chipper.

  29. I'll put in a vote for that red. Have got a mate with a shelby that's a red with quite a bit of black in it, looks real deep and sharp. It has black stripes as well which goes together better than you would think

  30. Cletus, Can you give me a bit more info on the York set up? How did you go about lubricating the pump? Rookie- With the 3 Gal, I can get the car up off the ground with one lift but it will be pretty low, The 3 gal is pretty small, but perfect for what I wanted because it is tucked up above the fuel tank and it fits with mm to spare. I dont know what pressure my tank is at, I haven't had a gauge set up on the tank. I think the pressure sensor is 0-200 PSI so it wont be more than that. I run an accuair VU4, they are really good systems. They include almost everything you need to bag a car, except gauges for each corner, which you will require for a cert here in NZ. I bought two dual needle gauges which I am yet to set up properly. (Im trying to hide them in the old glove box with the new stereo, I dont want them on show)

  31. I use a 3 Gal air tank. It will only lift the front, then it needs to refill to lift the back. My car is pretty heavy tho with a V8 up front. I have been looking at the idea of doing an engine driven compressor using an old ac pump but it is a little tricky as you need to set up an oiler. Refrigerant contains oil which lubricates the compressor. I use one 480cc compressor at the moment, I could go to two, but to be honest, I hate the noise and I am just going to throw a scuba tank in the boot, pull apart an old nitrogen regulator that I have and connect it into my existing tanks. This should give me about 50 full car lifts (apparently) before I need to refill the scuba tank. My boot can probably fit 8-10 more bodies in it than yours tho, so Im not fighting for real estate. Have you looked into Ridetech shockwave struts? Im not sure if they make anything similar to your struts.

  34. So I read on the internets there was such a thing called a colourtune, made by Gunson. Its a spark plug with a sight glass essentially which lets you see the colour of the flame. I was pretty interested so I had a play last night and made myself one. Smashed all the porcelain and other innards out of an old plug. Taped over the top and poked a bit of wire through the tape that will be the new electrode, then mixed up some epoxy and filled it up to what I thought looked right. I let it cure overnight then put some heatshrink over the electrode and soldered the old plug top to the end. Just put it in one of my cylinders before and what do you know I can see the combustion. Pretty far out concept and I'm surprised I haven't heard of it before now. Vid: http://tinypic.com/r/16i5q9/9 Only tested it for a tick, you can see the spark is arcing across the top a bit but I already have ideas on how I'd make version 2 better. Main problem now is I need to get a screw driver short enough to actually get under the carbs and adjust the pilot screws while it's running hah

  37. So apparently, two years ago, I was getting this ready for a revin and cert. Well, that moist certainly has not happened, as I do keep changing my mind a tad on how far I want to go with this car. So I have been looking at buying another wagon, as wag nats is coming up in just under two months, and I need something And then, Like a bat out of hell, old Nathan puts up an Meu engine with factory clutch stuff etc. boom, that's my ticket. So out the 2jz is coming, and in is going a factory engine, so I can atleast attempt the shit out of trying to get a revin, and worry about cert on an engine and slam etc at a later time. So the plan, get car to my lock up, remove front, bumper, rad support etc remove 2jz, carefully remove and label wiring, remove 2jz bell housing, fit m motor stealing a bunch of shit off my crown sedan (is going to be my saving grace) jack it back up to factory, and attempt a revin at the very start of next year. I have a fuck load to do in reality So I'm planning on getting wagon down to garage before Monday next week (going camping this weekend) start on above list, picking up engine on sunday the 20th, so should give me a bit of time to get it in there, get an exhaust sorted out etc. I would like to have the car ready for engine fit by the 20th if possible, including having the suspention jacked to shit again. Just reminded me, I need to find some factory wheels or tires....... Anyway, so that's whats happening heres some silly pics from last time I abused this thing

  39. They also have authority cards which allow for modifications outside of the cert system. You can make your own pedal box, but you have to jump through a lot of hoops if you want it legal. It's a lot easier to buy an aftermarket one and fit that.

  44. Discuss? - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/29495-sparkles-bmw-of-supermega-happy-hell-yes/ So recently gave this thing a bit of a tidy up, mainly in the interior, which was started by my a1 wife getting me a rad Momo Prototipo for my 30th. The ever amazing Greg for Midnight Upholstery whipped me up a couple of new door cards to replace the originals that were cut to bits for some ugly 6x9s by the previous owner, Simon came to town to make me a little panel to mount the VDO gauges, and Cam chucked a bit of vinyl at it, and totally rewired the engine bay, and got rid of a shit load of unnecessary wires. I also got a nice new gearknob turned up from a guy from the wood workers guild. The highly talented Richy "I'm not a fan of excess Coriander" Opie came down and took some amazing shots - some of you may have seen some sneak previews for a certain upcoming article! Oh, and I also got it retuned now that it's run in. Not much in the way of peak power, but a nice 8-10kw pick up in a lot of mid range bits. Goes quite well! First run in 3rd, then 4th.
