  1. both.. dirt, rock, and small rock floating in dirt. any digging back would be undermining the neighbours. methinks any further developments would be in/on/around the existing garage. vague pines for sticking two 20'ers on top or two 40s and hang em off the back or never be involved in building a house ever again

  2. new page time. been driving it and its still fucking awesome to cruse in. thats about it really, acquired a few bits for it that i was missing so ill make them fit and do a few more things i want to do as well. its hard work having 3 cars. I've been working flat out on the blue car which is fucking choice now but I've not done anything on this in a while. good problem to have i suppose. anywho, here are the boys together. 3. So I did a shitty job of painting the roll bar, I will probably re do it at some point. And my shiz showed up this morning so it looks like racing this weekend is on. This is what the engine bay looks like now. I think I will chuck my locked diff in for the weekend too.

  6. Daybreaker just around the corner. So it turns out we did an ok job of building the engine drunk as anything. Ended up essentially completely rebuilding the carbs. Got it running to run engine in and the fuel pump gave up. Also replaced the reg with a holley one, now we have mint fuel pressure all the time. Big thanks to Roskilda autos for the time spent on the Dyno and rebuilding the carbs and did a good job. Made some (not much) horses approx 87hp which wasn't altogether bad. Has heaps of torque for a 1300 and pulls through the gears well with the TRD ratios Apparently plenty more in it with more timing but goal is to keep it reliable and not have to rebuild the engine every year.. Found one of the wedges which hold the rear calipers in place was missing also so desperately in need of some ae86 rear calipers even if it's only to borrow for the daybreaker. Having a look at down at oldschool today hopefully. Just tidying up the final bits and pieces of wiring and having the alternator re kitted to make sure it can handle running the 4x hella spotlights we'll need for the first two stages (4am start Woohoo)

  7. Hey guys, I've had this golf for around a year now and have done a lot to it. When I picked it up it wouldn't idle what so ever and just didn't run well generally, timing was so out. Kept cutting out (electrical problems as well) had AA get it going 3 times before I got it home (9 hour drive). That's basically as it's had a 1.6 KJET swapped in over the original 1.1 carby and had a lot of missing parts. Good increase in power but want to do something bigger down the road. Finally lowered it on $300 coilovers from china haha Really like how it sits but is quite bouncy, can't complain for $300 I've had the 4x114 volks for ages but could never run them all around as adapters made them stick out too much, finally found a set of 4x100 on Trademe for $80 (selling as trailer wheels) which are perfect for the front then 15mm adapters on the back. I highly recommend deathmat with ccf as I had to but earmuffs for the drive home, it use to be so fuckin loud with all original insulation stuff removed by the last owner.

  8. So I've got a bit of a project to keep me busy. Essentially I got a free stuffed mobility scooter from a mate who didn't want it anymore. The whole electrical system on it was stuffed, beyond easy/economical repair. So after that had sat in my back yard for a while I was offered a stupid pit bike chopper thing which hadn't run in years for a box of woodstocks. I obviously was happy to acquire it. The plan now is to merge the two together, ending up something like this: After a fair bit of stuffing around with the pit bike engine, including replacing coil, cdi, sparkplug and re-wiring the whole thing I finally got it going. Carb is pretty stuffed, choke seems to be permanently on but it seems to go ok at least, shouldn't be too difficult to fix. Have got some steel to make up some mounts with the plan of mounting the engine under the seat area. Will need to sort out some sort of brake system and way to attach a sprocket to an axle. Will probably get a mate to mill something up for the sprocket. Any suggestions for a decent/cheap braking system?

  9. So i have sorted out the driveshaft problem i was having. I guess the difference came from the fact that i went from auto to manual gearbox. The engine is definitely where it should be. Found a two piece driveshaft from an early L200 and fitted the front half of that to the back of the existing one and it fits perfectly! yuss! just need a new universal for the middle and to swap the hanger bearings bracket over and that's sorted. Now i just need to modify the x member so it will bolt on where the old one did and all will be swell. But that makes for some pretty boring pictures. I also took the springs out of the front and tried some wheels on for size......

  12. Rocker cover all todied up and back on, timing chain cover back on, 4age flywheel bolts shortened and flywheel fitted. Also replaced all visible bolts with stainless cap screws for prettyness Just waiting for gearbox to come back with new diff and bearings then I'll start looking at engine mounts Had an issue with the throttle linkage hitting the rocker cover on full throttle so modified the mounting for the throttle cam and shortened the linkage to suit. Looks like it's factory now.. And also.. Hello valves..

  16. Haven't done anything to this other than drive it, managed to get it legal again awhile back. Drove 2 1/2 hours each way to a drift day on Sunday. No drama's! Exhaust wore out, but thats normal. I was a bit rusty to start with since haven't done any drifting for close to a year. but kept it off the walls this time! Managed to win the mini comp, (track was kinda bias towards my car!) taking home a radiator, which was pretty choice end to the day. brother got a couple or short vids. will put them up later

  17. As some of you know Snoozin parted ways with El Cedrico on the weekend just gone. Full credit goes to him as this car wouldn't be the stunning car it is today without all his hard work and perfect eye for detail. The car Drove flawlessly down to Christchurch, fully loaded up with treasure there was some rear wheel arch vs tyre action as to be expected with a low car Gas stop in Sanson Waiting in line for the ferry (note the rear tyre that has jizzed on the wheel) And lastly I decided I should install the rev counter from the wrecked out hardtop today (excuse the crappy phone pic) Cheers Karl Discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?showtopic=31520

  19. right sorry about the delay. standing in the fireplace in the middle of the lounge, looking south at the kitchen sink. the oven/cooktop will be at your feet here, in a bench dead ahead, ie a chicane coming out of the hallway straight standing in the 'hallway' looking south, can see the toilet in the bathroom. 'washhouse' on the left, just before bedroom door. plumber has put washer connections in the wrong wall likely due to communication issues, i cant afford to change it yet , so washer will be sideways for now. sideways sickness standing in the toilet looking north into the shower. note builder's artwork gift haha. on the right of the shower is a hallway cupboard standing in shower looking south at toilet and hand basin standing in the bed looking north. left to right: door onto deck, wardrobe, washhouse, cavity slider to hallway. it's blossom festival, love it

  20. So thought I'd put something up here. Bought this car about 8months ago with a friend with the intention to get into rallying a oldschool RWD car for cheap and having some fun (the way they used to with mo's a beer for lunch) as we both have circuit cars as well and came to the conclusion neither of us could handle ever selling our POS circuit cars to fund a rally car. We are planning to do the Daybreaker Rally in 2014, there is a clause in the rules that still state that the co-driver can drive some of the stages if they want. So we are doing stage-for-stage driving the car. Neither of us have any rally driving experience, only rally experience is servicing stupidly custom hayabusa starlets so doubt that'll be much use to us... so will be an interesting learning curve considering neither of us can read notes so will just do the rally blind at this stage. Got the car cheap from down south where it had been running for a number of years. Mechanically pretty sound few bits and pieces we have had to sort but all in all its pretty good. Car just needed a birthday really. A lot of things were done really hory and the interior was a sight to behold.. A bit of TLC is what it needed. It has a COD (certificate of description) which means we can run legitimately in the classic class and also gives the car a bit more value. As we got the car got rid of the racetech 100's that neither of us could fit our fat arses into and mounted the seats from my circuit car. only just fits in there theres a 10mm gap between the seats and each seat just clears the door on the outside of the car. This is what we are aiming for the car to look like by daybreaker; took it for a skid at the farm to test it all out. Goes bloody well! the 4K in it is grumpy as hell got a massive cam, dellortos and revs out over 8K so were pretty happy with that. Has a AE86 diff (TRD plate diff), gearbox and front struts with Bilstein shocks all round so handled it all really well. Was super tail happy so after this we put it on the alignment machine; turns out it was toeing out by 8mm.. nothing a angle grinder and welder can't solve! So the strip down begun, just to tidy up everything as there were bits of rust, birdshit welding and general horiness in quite a few places. our aim was to tidy up the inside and do everything right. As well as sort out the crunchy synchro's in the gearbox which hindered us while testing Some of the good bits.. grp 4 inserts in the front Some of the shit, starting to strip the whole interior of paint ready for a full respray (check out how dented the floor is - this has been a rally car for quite a while!) Tidying up the struts Jase (ekezetec) made me some new footplates New parcel tray to tidy it up So we had a bit of drama with this. We intended to use my paint I used ont he 101 and it just turned to shit. Apprentice painter painted it for us and did a shit job turned out rough and not glossy at all and was never going to cut it. So got some white CV and did it again with a mate Rob at the gun. Damn he's good at pretty much everything and only wanted a 24 box of export for it which we pretty much drank while he painted... what a GC! Had to spend a lot of extra time re-prepping it again which sucked but at least its done properly. All masked up and ready to go for round 2. Rob at work So much glossier than 1st time round. Main thing was it had to be glossy so dust can be cleaned out properly after every rally. Finished result - really happy with how it turned out! New battery mount welded in and nice straps made. Also ran new cables and put a nice sheath over the outer to keep it all looking tidy Toolbox has been restored taking it right back to bare metal and repainted/remounted using some tidy go-kart washers. Also painted the fuel tank while it was out to tidy it up Nick spent heaps of time cleaning up the rear trims. We used expanding foam up the pillars to try and seal the dust out of the cabin. hopefully this will work well along with our new door seals - got a full set of brand rubbers from thailand so that will make everything seal really well hopefully. Dash has been fully re-coed. Looks 10000x better than it did before. Just looking for a small black retro looking tacho to run now so we can get rid of the monster tacho it currently has.. Dash mostly back together now just need to replace the indicator-lamp-oil-light with a nice little LED unit and mount in the new carbon panel. Also had the top panels of the dash repainted and flocked, looks super tidy and definately worth the money to do it properly! Waiting for the foot plates, seat mounts and isolator switch bracket to return from anodising this week to finish off our nice shiny bits and pieces.. Will post more pics when they arrive. Got new Flywheel bolts for it and machined the flywheel properly so the new TRD close ratio box can go in this weekend hopefully. Also have decided to make a new driveshaft. The output of the TRD box has a ae86 spline which we had to change, Nick had a ae86 driveshaft sitting there so thought we may as well use that! just need to shorten by a few mm and weld back together.

  21. Have watched this from trademe sale to where your at now, and I have to say, bloody well done. You've not wasted any time on this, and done an awesome job. Love the bobtail and colour, being a south islander I'm not so down with the modgies, but the look of this is so 90's it really deserves to be on 13's of some type. Can't wait to see this roaming the streets of christchurch. I don't know if your brave or lucky, buying an unfinished project, sight unseen, that wasn't running, takes a bloody brave ( or crazy ) man. Either way, I love it.

  32. So I fitted the new clutch master and slave, gave it a good bleed, now I have a mint clutch, one of the threads in the gearbox mount for the clutch needed a helicoil, and now that's fixed and secure as hell. So then we had electrical issues to sort, the lights come on when the battery is connected and one side of headlights was full no indicators, he found within 3 mins, 2 problems and had them all fixed again, just a earth we thought was for the horn was off. Made me look like a right tard, but hay I do engines not electrics. My m8 whom painted the car has stored it at his place for now, he's buffing the paint so it has some insane shine going on, must say thought it was a different car when I saw all the dust wiped off it! I actually joked and asked him if he had repainted it again. So this sat morning we are going for a warrant, and I'll throw some pics up of the finished process for those who want to see it. Bear in mind I havn't put in the new interior yet only the front seats are in, so over next month or so I'll add complete pics inside and out.

Anyway, best old car I ever owner, worst decision I ever made selling it but I'm stoked it will be looked after, had a million of fun in this old thing, put over 20,000km on it and it never once put a foot wrong.

  37. So, I got it running. Finally! Its been a hard slog, had a few headaches along the way (usual engine conversion stuff though really.) The exhaust headers have been a complete nightmare, mainly trying to make them fit with the column shifter linkages and I also struggled to find a starter that would clear everything but it least its all sorted now. Things are tight in places, that is for sure! Off to the exhaust shop tomorrow to get the open headers welded up to the existing twin exhaust mufflers. I also took the time to get heaps of stuff working properly that was not working at all before, like the horn, speedo, handbrake, lack of stereo etc. You know, the basic stuff haha Looking forward to a test drive to make sure everything is all ok! Will post a vid when that happens.

  38. and we're back. Untitled by sheepers-ra28, on Flickr everything seems to be working properly, the steering is like heaven compared to how it was and the clutch is magic. Brendan tuned it on the road and its running about 12psi at the mo. its very different in the power delivery to how it was with the factory computer. after the wedding ill dyno tune it with a bit more pressure and see what happens.

  41. More gorse. More Hawthorns. More Sycamores. More bloody Blackberry. All chopped down and burned. That was last weekend- in between sitting in the sun and just chilling out. It was a really nice weekend and we really are on top of all the clearing. Plus when we turned up on Sat morning we discovered that our neighbour who has been doing all the digger work etc has started laying down fresh stone onto the driveway. It was so good being able to cruise up the steep entry bit of the drive with the van in 2wd and no wheelspin at all. It looks great too and once we have had some rain to wash the dirt off we'll have the Mediterranean looking driveway we want with the white stone gelaming in the hot sun. Just need palm trees... We have put a thermometer up and on the Veranda it has recorded 27.5 C last week sometime. Seriously gets bloody hot in this little valley as it misses the winds that the surrounding valleys get and heats up. so we arrived sat morning, unpacked the van then just sat in the sun and drank coffee while kevin sat in the bush under a fern watching the fat wood pigeons in a tree - too hot for a fluffy cat. Eventually we started chopping down shit. Then burning it. Then having a beer. Or two. We have pretty much cleared out all the gorse now except for what there is higher up the ridge which can wait. The bush is taking that over quite nicely anyway While I was down near the entrance to our drive chopping down some Hawthorns (horrible nasty trees '..spit..') an old couple came by on mountain bikes. I started chatting away and it turns out the are from around the road about 2kms away. They have been living in the valley for about 35 years. They too have a bush block and have been there, done that. Really cool people and lots of very useful advice for us. I will be grilling them for as much advice as I can get because there is so much to learn- especially as to what grows well, when to plant etc etc. They are really proactive with the local community group that looks after the estuary and beaches etc which is something I want to help out with. I will bide my time before I mention a skid pad and 1/4 mile strip.... Also turns out that their grandson in law (?) is building mtb tracks on their property and also builds alot of the tracks in Richmond for the mtb club. So thats handy- more info I can absorb! Anyway- photos. I was so engrossed in cutting down weeds and burning weeds.. that I didn't take that many photos. But here are some. Coffee on Veranda when we turned up... Kevin in the bush (Bushragdoll) The new driveway surface.. The area to the left of the driveway where we concentrated our clearing- right down to the road below. Before clearing... Then not far before finishing the clearing (always more then we think there will be!) Daddy, mummy and baby saw.... Sitting down for a late afternoon coffee on the driveway high point, Monday afternoon. So this weekend I think might be rainy. We will do what we can but just in case its really shitty I bought Hannah a massive Lego Unimog for her Birthday a while back. She has been waiting for a decent rainy weekend to start building it so that might this one coming. Otherwise its clearing out some scrub near the cabin on the boundry so we can get to siome massive pines that need felling. They block the sun in the summer afternoon and need to come down- that will be a big busy noisy weekend for sure! Oh- we also sent through our application for consent for the shed a couple of days ago. Hopefully it will get processed quickly (ha ha ha...no it wont..) so we can get on with ordering it and getting it up. I fear they might be asking for a geotech report because of our location but we will see.

  45. Took the car to a panel beater friend to get some work done. Very pleased with the results, Got the rear guards redone as I ruined the last ones trying to get the wheels to fit. More clearance under the rear doors and a slight flare. Gets pretty low now with only slight rub on one side. Got the front valance put in again, this was always missing to allow room for the fans, the fans are now on the engine side of the radiator. And a wee diff bump to stop my big dick diff hitting the floor.

  46. Small update, well a big one really. Pictures speak for themselves! Fits in there really nicely, did not even have too many problems. Just need to sort out all the little things but getting there! Big ups to Camel for coming over and giving me a hand to get the old engine out and the V8 installed in one day. Nice work! XY steering box fitted up. Needed bit of a trim to the box and slight tap to the body. It fits in quite well. Had dramas with the drill bit catching the crush tube on the only hole that needed to be drilled but got it sorted in the end thankfully! After the steering box was bolted up, the engine and gearbox went in nicely. Just need to sort a few things to finish it off. The starter motor I have doesn't fit and the engine cross member brace doesn't either, so have to get those this week. Lots of other small things to figure out but its all simple stuff.
