Tele29
You know, if you added a second turbo the heat soak from the cross-over pipe would be a distant memory. Also.... Methanol.

I know a fan can suck a lot of air but by blocking the sides off you force the air to be directed into the radiator. These parts circled below. If you have a shroud may pay to put some holes in it with rubber flaps that could open at max speed to allow more air flow throu it as well.
mjrstar
Have you actually taken a radiator temperature? If the radiator isn't scorching hot then airflow isn't the issue. Mates old lotus 7 replica thing had hot engine, but you could touch the radiator, so was clearly a coolant flow issue not an air flow issue.
cletus
Thats this weekends plan, I got a infrared thermometer so I can check temps of various things. Rad does get hot enough that you don't want to touch it though 2
Roman
Be sure to record all of the numbersand post them here... maybe some graphs?
Otodat
It looks like the top and bottom radiator hoses are on the same side of the radiator, is it possible the water flow is not spread over the full width?
cletus
Yeah I'd wondered about that, I checked temps at both sides and they were within a degree , although after a tech tip from sheepers on infrared thermometers I'm going to re check it
RUNAMUCK
Bit of a ling'er, but the rad I had made for my ute is a cross flow. I had the guy fit two baffles to the tanks to effectively make it a triple pass. I didnt like that the hot water could effectively go straight to the top of the inlet side tank, and then across the top part of the rad only. RUNAMUCK
Could you use header wrap on that pipe which is close to the Radiator?
cletus
Yes possibly. I hate touching that stuff though I've put some heat protective stuff on the bottom tank, I'll see if that makes any difference
RUNAMUCK
Submerge it in a bucket of water, and wear latex gloves. Takes all the unpleasantness out of it.

Bling
More of a just here to look at the pics project browser, but I have to ask so I can stop wondering. Timing is all smick yeah and not contributing to the heat issues? Someone may have already asked / I missed you say it is. Sweet build though, so clean! cletus
Thanks! Yeah timing is in the ballpark of where it should be, 14deg at idle I'll get it dyno tuned at some point but I'm pretty sure it's about right
xsspeed
have you got room to mount intercooler lower?
morkster
All that mucking around you should just get a big brass and copper radiator. They work so much better. 1

moparmuppet
Sweet job Clint. I couldn't keep my big block cool in summer, had electric fans, then OG 4 blade that was better. The fix in the end was a FlowKooler waterpump from Summit and a FlowKooler Robertshaw thermostat. Milodon do a cheaper copy of the heavy duty type thermostat ( like a sleeve valve, not poppet) but it lasted 2 drives before jamming shut. The FlowKooler stuff is legit and far cheaper than reworking radiators etc if the airflow side is OK. Good luck. 3
MRT1TRD
Do you have a engine oil cooler? They can make a decent difference to coolant temp, especially on a turbo engine.
