  1. Discussion here and pic of rear seat https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/91418-mrt1trd-‘62-bluebird/
  2. https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/91387-mrt1trd-brought-a-new-vehicle-without-rust/ discussion for this
  3. The front seat base needs some repair, it’s not missing any vinyl so I think it’s possible to do a internal patch to hold it together if matching colours are not available, or does anyone have suggestions?
  4. So for the first outing I joined the local VCC for a run out to little river for a school fair/ pumpkin festival was quite the test for the car, it did OK, going up the steep hills in mt pleasant was difficult to keep momentum when doing a 1-2 shift. Also was a test that the cooling system is good as it’s a long way up for a 63yo 1.2L to go but it did it. pic stolen from os spotted..
  5. So then Looked into the gear shifting issue first was the play in the shift rods, the joints had a lot of play on the 1st - rev rod, so I replaced the bushings and washers, the split pins was half the problem, being soft so best I had lying around was some key rings. this improved the selection but still had play inside the box, so I was able to select 2nd while driving if I’m slow and almost grind reverse that is
  6. So before I picked it up I had already planned its first outing in two weeks but had a few things to fix (tho lockup rules state no working on vehicles) first was the LH Indicator not selecting. so after carefully removing the cracked bakerlight wheel I cleaned and played with the mechanism to get it working again.
  7. So I made went to check it out, looked it over, started it, drove it back and forth in the driveway and said I would pay asking price. went to pick it up a couple days later and drove out of the driveway went to select 2nd … nope it will not select any other gear while stuck in 1st??? Stopped tried it with engine stopped- no problem except for a bit of play in selectors eventually just drove it to my lockup with 2nd and 3rd gears #pooroldclutch
  8. For the Christchurch historians Cockram Datsun - Hansa - Porsche
  9. So I purchased this in march for a decent price compared to repairing rust on my other cars, It’s a 1962 Datsun Bluebird sold New in Chch and after two family owners I own it. needs a bit of mechanical refinement but came wof and reg
  10. But the sad news is I listed this for a I don’t really want to sell it price and someone decided they wanted it so it’s goodbye . The end
  11. So since jan 2020 I have moved house/town four times now living in Chch so this car just sat in my garage in the Hokianga doing nothing until Easter this year when I put it on my trailer and drove it to the South Island
  12. So many years ago and very little has been changed I had exchanged a’63 starter motor for some averagely folded sill repair panel from a ‘plaster and paint’ kind of panel beater a couple of years ago
  13. Is there any meeting for the end of march I have a road going car again and keen to drive it
  14. As for the spare car sadly I had to make a call
  15. 7 years later Two house shifts (only one for the car) Not much has been done apart from engine removal and it's own progression back to being rusty 😔 Now I have to move again, maybe not so close to the coast
  16. I have a Morris 1622 engine that I have had running on a pallet
  17. Ideally take it to the engine shop get them to do a clean and check for cracks, and once it's clean and the valves removed the seat can be checked. So these don't have seats originally but with different keepers it's had valve work before. On the pic of #4 combustion chamber between the valve and spark there's a line of rust dust that is possibly the valve seat moving but I can be wrong. If it is it's not much for a shop to cut/fit a larger seat. Block you can clean yourself but best results need to remove core plugs and water pump, and if was seized there maybe something else damaged that you have to disassemble the rest of the engine to find
  18. Nice car, but that engine needs a lot of work, #4 cylinder is a different generation valve spring and keepers and probably valves, there looks like one of the valve seats looks like it is possibly moving, and lastly there's probably more coolant flow in a dry drag racing engine, I'd hate to see how blocked the radiator is.
