  1. I bought a 5M-GX exhaust header kit. As it the style with this type of kit there is some assembly required.

  2. So I have been attempting to get the box back together, but it has taken 3 attempts so far; #1 - all the clusters back together, everything inserted and getting to put 5th gear on when I realised I was so intently following the written writup on Xweb that I had forgotten to put the actual gearshifting mech in because it wasnt part of the writup. Sigh, gently pull it apart and scrape off all the blue gasket poo. #2 - everything back together again but realising the there was some burring in one of the the detent ball holes and the now impossible to get out ball bearing was moving neither forwards nor backwards. Sigh, gently pull it apart, extract the ball and then scrape off all the blue gasket poo. #3 - slowly and methodically reassemble it all again, barely even referring to the writup cos there is now an element of familiarity with the process. I am still waiting for some axle seals, but apart from that its all done. Like the old box it has a tapered drain plug in a straight tapped hole, I think I will make a straight plug up so I dont split the case. Anyway there are very few pics of all this as it required much concentration.

  4. I was contacted yesterday and asked to call in and discuss a few things with the boat. The engine is now on. We have decided to go with tote tanks and put them in the bin seats behind the front seats. Originally it had a copper fuel tank which I have but it will be retired. Tote tanks are easy to use and you can just lift them out and use the fuel for something else if you are not using the boat for a while. Another advantage of a 4 stroke engine I would think. The biggest obstacle to getting it in the water by Christmas will be the trailer. The springs are not healthy and would need replacing I would think to get a Wof. I asked them to find a new trailer as even if I fix the original trailer I would still need to do a lot of maintenance on it every winter.

  5. KP progress has slightly stalled due to a certain German tank entering our lives.... Picked her up from Welly and drove back the next day in convoy with @mk2marty Didnt miss a beat! M117 and............. 5 speed manual! Huge list of stuff to sort, need a better diff ratio as the current one is far too tall, so something out of a 280SE would be ideal. Needs AC sorting ASAP as its the family car. So if anyone knows of or has any W126/C126 parts please message me! Have a lot of things to source.

  6. hey, also it should be made very clear that i have no idea what I'm doing. I'm literally just doing whatever looks good, there is no science in anything here, diameter of the throttle? - fuck knows, whatever will kind of match up with the head and still be big so it looks cool. length of the runner? - 80ish mm because that the number that i pulled out of my arse. angle of the throttles in relation to the motor? - 15 degrees because i have no idea why. if there's something that seems fucky please speak up, like i say these is no science in this at all it should also be noted that this engine isn't really destined for great horsepowers, its a fucking 5m, if i wanted max powerz i wouldn't have started out with such a turd. any input would be appreciated, unless your a shitposting dickhead, then its not.

  7. Trial fit on chain drive Looks like a half link is in order. Which I've ordered and will pray to the gods of speed for it to magically solve the tension issue without the need for an idler.

  10. Finally got this finished. All legal. Taken it for a few rips. Super fun. So small and light. Oh so narrow: For sale now. As I enjoy the journey more than the destination. Already neck deep in another build.

  12. She's alive! 100kms into bedding in the new rings and she is driving super nice. There's no tinny rattle coming from the loose turbo heat shield and there's even a rattle, that I thought was coming from the front suspension, that's gone so that's a win. WOF and Rego'd, aircon regassed and ready to cruise - but I do feel like a bit of a plonker having to rev it at intersections and not let it flat idle (engine rebuilders recommendation) but oh well. I should be able to get a good drive in this week and chew through some kms. Then when the oil and filter get done I'll put on a new crank pulley (squeaky and delaminating) and a few viscous fan clutch. The rest of the 'to tinker with' list is: Wheel alignment Cut and polish New radiator pipe bracket Fish oil rad support and refit front mudflaps and new bolts/clips for lower fender and inner fender liners Repair drivers seat Repair shrunken vinyl on T-Top trim and in back seat New clock Repair centre console lid Fix rattle from windows Tighten up door latch's - not perfectly flush Repair cracked boot plastic Secure sub When $$ Allows: New Wheels Closed door respray - fitting new windscreen, mouldings, quarter glass and door glass trim and Targa seals.

  13. Engine shop mans keen eye pointed this out On the lighter coloured cylinder too, so could well just be the head gasket. They are going to check it and give it a skim. There is a certain amount of scum that forms in the header tank, not much so I thought it was just clag from its long park up getting blown out, but maybe not..

  15. I bought this boat 10 years ago and have never put it in the water. It's still is on its original trailer and has the number 59 on it which I am thinking was when it was built, which seems about right. I bought it from Whitianga, and they had bought it from Gisborne. It had a reasonably new outboard fitted to it at the time which is what they were after. Then I picked up a second hand 75 Merc for it from Gisborne of all places. The exterior of the hull has fresh paint on but the interior was in need of a tidy up so I set about redoing the interior. I got most of the construction done but life got too busy so it sat until now. Anyway, we have decided since the engine has been sitting without use and will probably need a fair bit of work, we will buy a new engine. So, I went down to the local marine dealer who sells Honda outboards and have ordered a 4 stroke 75hp for it. They tell me it doesn't take that much to get these small ply boats to get up and go. I will post up more pics as I go.

  22. Cheers for that, I had since swapped the filters back on already. Plan is to chuck a 02 sensor in the pipe and monitor it and do some plug chops when I get some free time to do some testing. Hit up a guy to do some tuning on a dyno and it was $500-$700 and a week which isn't really that bad, just not in the budget. Yeah between the 17 inch set up and the 16 inch set up is 6mm difference of over all height with the 16 inch set up been taller. with the shocks been shorter I'd say I've lost height over all and created more rake. When @Kimjon was measuring the trail it seemed very similar to the og set up.

  23. That sounds like my brothers iron head owning experience. Every time he rode it something broke off or fell off or shit itself. I can still clearly recall a bunch of us making evasive maneuvers on a ride to avoid his gearlever bouncing down the road in front of us.

  27. Brakes bled on my lunch break, with some bottles of random DOT4. Both rear banjo bolts were only finger tight. And one of the lines at the rear t-piece needed tightening and loosening a few times before it stopped leaking under pressure. After bleeding, I held down the pedal hard as I could for about 30 seconds, still dry at all the joins. NFI what the brake balance is like. Handbrake works. Guess the next thing is to put the wheels on and take it off the tip-over jig. Then enquire at my local garage if I can put it on their wheel alignment machine to see if the subframe is anywhere near straight. It's Julian Cheers old place, he said there is an alignment machine.

  29. Spent some time getting the engine where it needed to be. Back corner of one head wanted to be in the same place as the footwell/bulkhead. The small amount of intrusion. Flipped the gearbox xmember backwards and it got close enough to work with a couple extra holes. I'll modify it a bit more to lift the box a little. As well as needing extra captive nuts in the chassis. Gear linkage didn't come with the box, they sell it separately, it also sits way too far back, so I need to make one. Or maybe adapt one from a K11 for the lolz

  30. Almost finished the rust around the front windows the last of it in the body yay!, bonnet is going to be a pita to fix as don't really have the gear to shape it nicely, just need to replace the edge's on guards and then they are finished too!

  40. Pull start mechanism underway. Over engineering 101. Much like the original ones. However because I'm using a vespa motor (not an Ape motor) it has e start. So the pull start is just a backup.

  41. I have the varnish work done now, the floor fitted and seats mounted. The wiring needs sorting so I will get them to sort it out when they fit the engine. I was hoping to fit the windows but ran out of steam. I had my first acquaintance with Covid so I had a couple of days of not being able to do anything. It goes in for it’s engine fit tomorrow.

  42. I spent the whole afternoon cleaning it. Started by waterblasting and scrubbing the outside, removed all the stickers and other shit from the glass. It actually looked pretty good when it was clean. The inside needed a decent vacuum and scrub of all the plastics. The door cards had spilled drinks, one side had something resembling dried tomato sauce which had dripped down it, the centre consoles, dash and glovebox were also filthy and all got a scrub inside or outside of the car. I really want to pull the seats and carpets out and give it a deep clean, but I'll leave that until it is running again. We pushed it into the shed so I could look into why it wasn't starting. Putting it inside next to my other 'small' car made me realise just how small these really are. If you are space constrained, buy a kei car instead. After all, that's why they exist.

  45. Long time since I’ve done anything Oldschool related, the Suzuki is tucked in the corner of the shed, so though I’d buy another project. So here is my 1956 Ford F100. My first V8 of my own. Plans are to tidy it up, get it re reg’d and putt around the country. It does need a lot of work, rust everywhere , no brakes amongst other things. It still retains its v8 y block, I believe it’s either a 256ci or 272ci power plant, matched with a 4 speed floor shift manual, and it’s rhd. Discussion thread
