  3. So I'm working on another Television show and they have a 'Beach Hop' scene coming up. Basically a bunch of sweet old cars and some bogans (including myself) standing around. Filming will take place all day on Tuesday the 14th of June which is next Tuesday. It will be on the North Shore at Long Bay. Myself, Zebra Dude and some friends are taking up about half a dozen cars on Monday night which will then be left there on location with onsite security. The production company are willing to accommodate more cars though and also people. If you are willing to display your car you will be paid for it. If you would like to be a car enthusiast extra then you will also be paid hourly for that, separately. So if you have something and want to put either the car or your car and yourself on TV then just let me know. I'm not making any money out of this, just trying to get some Oldschoolers on TV and put some money in their pockets.

  4. yea about 4 seconds. Im pretty happy with that, this was only my 4th event and hes been rallying (mostly escorts) for 30 odd years. The footage from the event was pretty shitty, shaky and foggy cos of the wet, but i made a split screen comparison of both of our second runs. You can see he makes his speed with later breaking, carrying a bit more momentum around corners which allowed him to stay in 3rd, where i dropped to 2nd in a couple of them. Pretty much just bigger nutsacks really. But i rub my nuts on his daughter, so i win at the end of the day.

  7. More not so exciting things, I got a super cheap deal on a terraphone professional intercom, 40 bucks mayyyyte. Lush thing about this is it has a audio output, so I can plug it into my go pro for max swearword crash antics. I'm going to mount the go pro on the bottom of the intercom. Got some aliexpress 12v -5v usb converters so I can hardwire the go pro in cos the batteries are super shit. So just for the purpose of form rather than function I replaced the wheel with a sweet little sportline one, makes the car look a bit more period than the rice wheel, again I can't go bigger than 320mm to fit my fat knees.

  8. After lifting the body off and on a few times i finally have the engine sitting almost where i want it. Front pulley sits more or less in the same place as the original TD27. I have used a Safari bellhousing bolted to a 300ZX TT auto box.

  9. I got a bit of time to mess around doing some landscaping in the weekend. I also managed to get the basement closed in. UJ are happy TBH And there was even time to waterblast all the mud off the floor. Please forgive the poor photo. It was taken tonight under the FUCKING AWESOME lights... but the generator is now playing up so I've hauled it down to the workshop. I'll take a look at it Thursday

  10. After 3 years of searching for a nice Datsun 1200 project I found this coupe that came up for sale down in chch. After seeing it on TM I quickly got hold of the owner through Facebook. Thankfully he didn't realise that he had set the listing as an auction, everyone interested in it had to email him, which he didn't realise until the morning after I contacted him when he saw the 40 odd emails from people wanting to buy it . After putting a deposit into the guys account, I brought some flights for 2 weeks time to chch. The car had been sitting for at-least 10 years and had no current WOF so I figured the owner would need a few weeks to sort out any issues. My friend and I flew down on a Saturday morning and meet the owner at the Airport with the coupe on his trailer. The car was better than what I expected, at this stage I had no idea that it had an A12 GX motor and a H165 ute diff so I was beyond stoked to find this out. Anyway here's some pics! \ \ \ \ \ Overall I'm pretty happy with it, the body has hardly any rust and is reasonably straight. It currently has an a12 GX motor with twin dellortos, 5 speed and a h165 ute diff. Discussion Thread

  11. Been dailying this thing for a while now, even with all it's issues I prefer to drive it over my Altezza for some reason. Tows well too, have had some damn heavy loads of green waste behind it several times now and it acts like there's nothing on the back. The list of issues grew a bit, fucked carb, vac secondary not opening, vacuum advance leaking to the point it didn't work, still intermittently backfiring, fuel pump leaking oil etc. The other night I found a couple L300 vans being parted out locally on TM, turned out it was a guy I know/knew well, I had kinda forgotten that he has opened a pick-a-part style wreckers yard 20 minutes out of town! Shot out there today for a nosy and also managed to buy a few bits One base spec Aisan carb with working vac secondary and next to no emissions crap Grabbed the complete inlet too as it doesn't have EGR and has several less vacuum ports and also only one temp sensor while mine currently has 3 sensors?? Fuel pump as well. Lol yeap, it's a Mitsi . Would have grabbed the mint looking carb off the Hyundai Stellar out there, but I CBF setting up the manual choke. Turns out the shitty bullbar mount is standard, looked under 3 Mitsi vans today and they were all like this! This hose went to a solenoid then to the carbon canister, I'm assuming it's where the fumes are sucked into the carb so as I'm ditching all 3 carbon canisters my van has I should be able to just plug it right? My mum lives a further 10 minutes out of town from the wreckers, so I shot out there to have a catch up, and while there I went through some of the old shit I have sitting in the car port, well would you believe I had a fucked Mitsi dizzy with a mint condition vacuum advance dashpot just sitting there? Swapped it over and I've now got too much timing at low RPM/high vacuum, but more importantly there's no backfiring at all!! Was caused by the vac leak from the dizzy! Grabbed a new fuel filter, some brake clean (which works fucking well on carbs haha) and ordered in an inlet manifold gasket for the morning so that's my mission for tomorrow! Any of you guys able to help me out with a decent priced carb kit? I get trade at BNT, but they stopped selling kits a while ago, Ripco has one in stock but it's got a ridiculous retail on it and SCA would have to order it from the US and it will take months or some shit?? I'm Raizer, and that was my pointless post. Now sing it with me "Don't you wish, you had a Mitsubishi?"

  16. I think it's well past time I updated this thread. A lot has changed since so I'll try update this thread with the progress. One of the first things I did when I got my hands on this was to pop of the rocker cover. It was a nice surprise to see Nissan Japan on the head. This shows that it is a gx head which have bigger intake ports than a15 heads and they're pretty rare. From now on the upgrades began, the first being a 5 speed swap. Luckily I had brought a sunny with a 5 speed a few months before buying this so I switched the 4 speed that was in this with the sunny 5 speed. As this was originally an auto it has a bigger tunnel than the manual 1200s. The main benefit of this apart from the extra room is that you don't have any issues with the 5 speed reverse switch hitting the tunnel. Here you can see just how different they are, manual on the left auto on the right.

  17. Here are the photos of the rear wheels on the car. There is enough clearance to go lower. I'm going to use HQ Holden lowering blocks and take out the rubbers that go between the diff and the springs. This might make for a bit of extra harshness in the car but I think that having the diff located more firmly will help tame the power of the V8. I also found these that have been in the garage for 25 years. Must be well over due to use them. There has been a fair number of hours gone into making the chassis connectors. Here is part 1 Hopefully Clint, our resident certification genius will be happy. I think so.

  18. So had the last sprint of the DCC sprint series in this thing a few weeks ago, car was going well, wet greasy day. My father in law and I both dual drove the car so was good to see what it is capable of. Lots of sideways fun like this - Managed to win this for the series- deeeze are the results of the day, i was pretty bloody happy to only be a fraction of a second of Rhys, and dealt to a few 4age powered cars with my whopping 64hp. Father in law (chris lancaster) fucking cleaned up, finished mid pack, and almost won b class 1300-1600 also! shows what experience and big nungas can do so after i got home i decided i wanted more than 64hp and curiosity was killing me to find out what the cam specs were, as the dyno told me thats whats holding it back, so got home and pulled the cam out - reprofiled on the left, stock on the right turns out the cam spec is weak as Sparkle, almost stock cam lift (ignore valve lift, muppet fucked up the rocker ratio) and feck all duration. Trying to come up with a new profile for this now, but im currently broke for a while so dunno when the grind will happen. Cosworth A2 my asshole also did some recent mucking around with a navigators console for a couple of gauges, button switches for wipers and the horn, and space for a trip meter- have also decided when i do the cam im going to bin the fucking shit, unequal length, tiny primary, 4 into 1 and tuned for almost 9000rpm cobys and make a set of tuned 4-2-1 extractors. Played around with some potential cam specs and got some pipe diameter and length numbers here, hopefully this happens over the next couple of months. Will bang them together and get them HPC'd

  19. so the car has just come back from Greg's where it has had a full cut and polish. its pretty much done now. there are two things left to do, adjust the door glass so it seats in the rubber s better and paint the rear badge. thats it. its done. hard to believe really but it is. the new owner has joined OS and will be involved in OS events for the future so imi sure you'll see the car around. for what could be the last post by me in this thread here are some bad photos of trying to show how fucking amazing it looks after polishing. 2016-06-08_06-43-53 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-06-08_06-44-17 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-06-08_06-44-30 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-06-08_06-44-51 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-06-08_06-45-03 by sheepers, on Flickr

  27. 40 valves! imagine replacing the stem seals and setting clearance in that... depending on your budget and packaging requirements you could consider some second hand Fg xr6 turbo falcon ute mufflers these are twin in and out, and flow well on a boosted 4 litre. often these are removed for "performance" upgrades but these are fine at over 350 wheel KW, my ute runs 22+psi on the fatory rear half of the sytem (does have a bigger dump pipe and cat) http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/aberfoyle-park/engine-engine-parts-transmission/ford-falcon-fg-ute-turbo-2008-on/1084126623 not in NZ I know but gives you an idea of what they look like.

  28. Once I had both boxes out I had to have them a quick clean as they were both pretty filthy. Next step was to make a new crossmember for the new 5 speed. After a few measurements I drew this up in auto as and got my mate to laser cut it out of 10mm steel. I drilled the holes myself as I wasn't sure how clean it would laser cut out. Here's what it looks like mounted up without round spacers that I had machine up to space the bracket from the body. Finding a new 5 speed rubber mount to use on this without paying a fortune was a pain in the ass. In the end I got one from a ceff, I can't recall which model but it did have two studs hanging from the side which I had to cut off

  29. I had a very breif gander at the fucked tonight. Built up about 60 psi, and Shut the motor off. Then I cracked open the line from the cylinder head to the nrv. Air did leak out. The air line to the unloader Is teed into another discharge port off the head. I removed the nrv and stripped it. The nylon(?) Sealing disc looked a little used. But I.wouldn't say it looked fucked. So I cleaned tje Fuck.put of everything, and threw the valve back.together. then paced arpund the garage looking for my thread tape. Before I could find it, her indoors hollered out that we needed bread. So that was the end of shed time for tonight.

  31. Went and bought a timing light and learnt how to use it. Fuck what a difference! It's no rocket, but I did manage a little skid coming out of a roundabout and I'm not sure what made me grin the most between that and lack of twitching from the rear end! The 180B half shafts mod is a success Also had the exhaust fixed up today, it was all a bit of a mess but all good now so pretty much ready to go for a WOF

  33. Did some patches on this last night.. started by trying to pull the dent out of the rear pass guard.. since it was a crease and I can't get to the back of it I welded some threaded rod into the crease and other areas, when I discovered, *sigh, thanks to gasmith again that it had very thin steel around here hence blowouts.. should've just cut the whole lot out.. My mini slide hammer, This bit was particularly thin thanks to the seam sealer, so I cut it out. Pretty ugg, but I'll skim it with love Did the puncture as well.. I'll do some more tonight..

  34. Ripped into the trans too, unfortunately it's been so long I couldn't recall what bits went where (I really wanted to avoid that situation). Thank fuck for phone pics. Thought I'd lost some pan bolts till I found these brackets etc in a box, what went where was a head scratcher till I scrolled back through some images... I've never looked into an auto trans before, first thought here was shit look at all that crap... But after a wipe up I realised these bits had fallen out of the filter when I rolled it over, and it was actually pretty clean inside... And a new filter made it look pretty flash... I cleaned out the pan and gave the holes a tickle with a hammer to straighten out the dimples... And all together, also chucked some heat shrink over the tatty wiring, couldn't get it as tight as I'd like as had to slide it over the plug, but I'll tape up the join and should be all good... I also checked I had torqued the flywheel bolts and was contemplating mating the engine to the trans when a mate came round with beer, so that's pretty much where things stopped...

  37. got this old bus running again after buttoning up the cooling system, and fitting the tow bar Then backed it out in to the sun for the first time in aaages. leetle bit of rake! will hopefully come down with interior etc installed then proceeded to pull the parts car out of its spot (which is over a bit of a hump and slighlty down hill) with it. YO DAWG! I HEARD YOU LIKE 2300 WAGONS SO...etc I had to get Mrs Azzurro to drive the tow car while I 'steered' the parts wagon (by kicking he wheels, as it has no steering box or steering wheel!) and controlled its forwards momentum with wooden blocks. Seems a shame to put an exhaust on it, but in other news, she said she likes driving it So now its in reach of my air hose and extension cord its dismantling time Unfortunately when emptying the boot out (so i can remove the fuel tank - the one that came in the nautilus has a massive dent in it,) the pane of spare hatch glass smashed lucky i have two more i guess.

  40. Did a bit more on this.. Used a shit load of stripper on one door, shit just doesn't wanna come off.. Turns to sludge.. Got there in the end, sort of.. This hole randomly appeared in both sides, it's crazy, can look right through.. Did a bit more digging around ga smiths work.. It's ugly but it does the job and there's no rust, if the window was out I'd lead it, just have to settle for bog.. I remember this punch hole from when they fixed it, so much for welding a patch in, cunts.. When they put the window back in they just over filled everything with urethane, Which resulted in this, Just surface shit, but again, professionals. Anyway, I've dug out all the excess sealant from around the windows so I can clean it all up.. stripped the sills and took a peek inside and they're clean as a whistle which is good..
