  1. so after spending more hours on a radiator shroud than anyone in history i fixed it. what a fuck around, but the end result looks good and thats the aim of the game i suppose. in other news the "rego on hold" letter came in the post and it expires at the end of this month so i might try and get a warrant on it before the end of the month. that might be a bit optimistic. 2016-03-20_01-08-06 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-20_01-07-57 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-20_01-06-15 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-20_01-06-07 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-03-20_12-23-53 by sheepers, on Flickr

  4. Ha, 2 years since the above post I have once again dredged this thing up. Started a discussion thread here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/52292-dangers-rx4-discussion-fred/ Had some drama around this thing a while back. Some piece of shit stole the front bumper, grill, bonnet, valance, grill badge etc. I recovered all parts with the exception of the grill badge. Bonnet was far more rusted out by the time I recovered it but I will still be able to salvage it. So its in my new work shop now and I've started work with the intention of at least getting it rust free and primed to make it more saleable or potentially complete it. Roof was badly beaten up. This afternoon I've straightened it out, removed and straightened the roof supports before welding them back in and shrinking the roof skin.

  8. Wow what an awesome day. Thanks to all those that made the effort and came along. Everyone seemed to be having a good day and I will certainly go back. I was told just before I left that the season is pretty much finished now for most clubs except those with fake grass. Opens up again in September. Certainly sounds like the old folk there have right good benders through summer. I chuckled when one fella told me they will swap orientation so every second time you swap ends you can pop inside and grab another beer... Massive thanks to the Pohara bowling club for looking after us. When we rolled up they called us over and had laid out a wicked selection of proper good food and tea/coffee/beer at the bar. After the afternoons bowling, where it must be added the weather turned out so fine for..almost too hot, we rocked back in for tea and they had put out more scones/cakes etc! They were a good BOC and very chilled out. Cheers to them! So I took a few photos but as usual half had shitty light etc. But here's mine. Looking forward to seeing the ones Shane took. One the way over the Takaka hill.. was a bit greasy but dried out well for sweet fast drive home... I spotted this young tourist checking out the fine racing'rolla... Parked up at Pohara. Many of you might well recognise this park up from nats... Getting schooled up the fine art of bowling.. Then learning the ropes and seeing what teams we are in... they mixed us all up with some good bowlers so we all had a chance. Action shots... More food.. The prize giving... I left last and continued on towards Wainui bay because well.. the roads are just ace along there. I think I will have beaten my last record for most petrol used but well worth it for the fun day had. On the way home Takaka hill got a good trashing and to the Probe V6 driver who tried to keep up for the first 1km or so.. ha ha, yeah that shitty little old car that rolls over onto its door handles can still hustle along Wainui bay in the late afternoon sun.. And I'll leave you with this so you can all have a study and start learning for the future OS Bowling league - of which Nelson area are now the current masters at Cheers Nelson crew!

  9. Ha! photo proof that all anyone needs is a 4-AF powered Corolla. Maybe she spotted the custom tuned square exhaust and knew that I was serious. Really was a great day! I recommend bowls to anyone who hasn't tried it (even though I have poor ball handling skills) I've got a new camera and trying to get used to it so quite a few photos didn't quite come out right/missed cars or out of focus. Practice huh? Here is a couple of local cars some creepy guy in the bushes A visitor, and the crazy bowling green Thanks to all you fine folk.

  15. This week, - ive ordered some diff/axle seals from Italy, they should turn up soon - dropped of my handbrake pads to get rebonded + new diff hard lines for the brakes - searched but did not find a spring place to have the rear leaves reset 2" lower - better luck next time maybe - fitted the brand new KYB eye-eye shocks i picked up for cheaps from the Kumeu Hot Rod show - they are perfect except for being slightly longer (~20mm) at extension and compression than the factory ones, but at least they move and they pretty much bolted up (swapped the crush wasters for the Fiat ones) also continued with fixing rust. Lower valance all back together Boot seal plugged on Ground back slop some primer on So thats the boot area except for the chassis rail 'lid' which ill leave off for now - i want to install some sort of crush tube/gusset thing for the tow bar to stop it fucking out like the original set up did.

  17. Il look for the news headline Local man kidnaps, tattoos, and skins woman stainless or brass mesh will be fine over that hole, and might look good. Drill and cut out the front brake housing too and put some in there as well. I did that to one of my old Hondas. Pluss I'm sure you have some of that laying around, its commonly found in pipes and "flower vases"

  18. Been putting some hrs in commissioning at work so not a lot of progress, but today I was home and weather was great so I stripped a lot of the front grille area parts. These have suffered many years of exposure to the elements plus the odd immersion in rusty radiator water... Sanded the bits attached to the car, and began masking... And laid down some epoxy, looks much better already... Also got a lot of little bits painted, will try to get another couple of coats on tomorrow...

  19. Is there anyone interested in a meet in New Plymouth? Something like Burger King and a couple of laps through Devon St? I know I'm up for something and a couple of PM's to your area mod would indicate he's not interested in getting anything of the ground. So it's up to us to do something. Let me know your thoughts. On a side note I think we could do with a pedal powered crew in the Naki to. "Naki Crankers" has a nice ring oi it, again let me know your thoughts.

  20. Acquired some new 4WD-spec shocks (thanks CDL) and got them fitted - they definitely have more 'grunt' than the Nissan Urvan ones that I put on (new) last year, However, one side is now leaking after a short (but bumpy) test drive. These are specced for LJ70 Landcruiser front, so I thought would be strong enough not to blow a seal? Engine will only run on 7 cylinders right now, which needs investigation. PS is noisy, and the air bag compressor needs to be removed and checked. 9 days to Beach Hop departure..... Noticed this critter scaling the Nibbler. It was dead/crispy though, so maybe the leaking oil did something bad?

  25. So! Spent the last few months doing this: Little car nut joined the family. Super stoked, excuse crazy eyes. Back into this, got some jdm packaging again too: Which contained all my missing bits. Still less expensive than paying drift tax here! Also i just won these last night: SO STOKED!!!!!!!! 15x7.5 and 15x8 look suspiciously like a set of 7.5s though.... Which I'll still be ok with. Should be here in a few months depending on when mlracings next container arrives! Next up, engine out, sell some bits, strip, rotisserie, weldy weldy painty painty. Xoxo ELEVNS

  28. Those logos would look sweet with the sill chrome. Not sure what it means in relation to the spec but its got chrome door pillar trims too. Got a 13b full cut bridgey that only needs new bearings that I'll likely bang together if I get that far. Got a few S1 rx7 gearboxes still too.

  29. Haven't really done much to this lately, just general maintenance. Recently I replaced the plastic indicators with smaller smoked LED items. While I was at it I swapped the red tail light for a smoked one. Also put some heat wrap on the exhaust. Took some photos a couple of weeks back. Pretty happy with how this bike has turned out.

  31. I've had an annoyance for a while where my tacho and speedo are in accurate. As in, if they're accurate at 100kph they arent accurate at 60. I couldnt replace the tacho and speedo functions with a general purpose PWM because it only adjusts PWM (at a static frequency) rather than variable frequency which is how they both work. So asked Link to put that on the to-do list, and they've just sorted it with recent firmware. I've now calibrated them both super accurate at 500rpm intervals and 10 or 20kph intervals. Previously the problem was that once you get to 6000rpm or ~140kph, after that they would both zing right off the clock. Now they sweep through beautifully. Awesome! Will be a lot more useful at trackdays and a lot more interesting to watch for in car video. I've now been thinking that it would be cool to do similar for the factory oil pressure sensor / gauge. Instead of just having a dumb reading from the sensor straight to gauge. I could now have the sensor going into the ECU (more datalogging, yusss) and then output a 3D table to the gauge, so that it shows that "good" oil pressure is the same point on the gauge through the rpm range and also through engine temp. (oil temp would be better, but cbf plumbing in my temp sensor yet) Then from here I can have one my conditions on a warning light to be whenever the gauge goes into the "bad" area of the 3D table. Which is seems especially useful in my case because I'm always banging my sump into the ground. <3 EFI stuff

  35. The Auto Sparky is booked in for monday so now to get on to the nicety's seeing as this car is built for gumbootrally (1000km of driving in a weekend) cumfort is important to my old body. step one fitting Teroden sp300 - its like dynamat but has more of an OEM look and is around half the price. I had a little Dynamat left over so I used that too. I got this from Car Colors if anyone wants to use it you cut it to shape peal the backing off and use heat (a fair bit) to mold it down id suggest a two man job and allow a couple of hours but the results speak for them selves. good time to give the car a good hose out too.

  37. Yeap, twin cam bolts on. Buuuuut, I would need a heap of fab work. Intake, exhaust manifolds, possibly new turbo, power steering pump bracketry, miscellaneous little things that take forever. So, new single cam head (minus those pesky Jet Valves) and i'm back to doing skids.
    1 point
  38. you fool! it cracked because that poor lonesome cam had to do all the work by itself. your cam is an emo loner and started self harming because its lonely and misunderstood. if you had two cams they could work together to overcome the modern day pressures of bigger turbos. two cams don't turn emo and two cams don't self harm. this is knowledge gained by years of 4M ownership.

  42. Now gearing up for the next few weeks. Spoke to Marc at Marcs Auto Electrical he is the guy that will lead me on the re wiring of it and installing the hyper pack. he is coming around next week to get started.so I figured I might as well start making room for us to work and unwrap the silly amounts of wires that go every where. straight away found 2 wires that were about 2M long that were not connected at either end. I also hate working under dashes and seeing as taking one out of these is a minor job did that to help with the future.

  46. Today. I went into the shed and made a vow to get this old thing on it's wheels. Which was achieved! In pictures, it kinda went a little bit like this: So in order to negate the ever so annoying problem I encountered with the brake rotors mashing themselves against the lower control arms, I acquired (after some searching I must add) some early KP Starlet steering arms which have a different kingpin inclination basically. They needed some refinishing because like all old car parts they were oily and grotty. IMG_3492 by Richard Opie, on Flickr Boom! No more clearance issues, in fact, we now have millions of clearances! The added bonus here is a degree or so of free negative camber. IMG_3497 by Richard Opie, on Flickr With the struts and brakes properly offered up to the car, the end result is something akin to this below. You can also see the braided lines I've had made up for the front end. IMG_3501 by Richard Opie, on Flickr IMG_3511 by Richard Opie, on Flickr Strut tops fit like a glove - Cusco strut brace installed because I could right now. IMG_3522 by Richard Opie, on Flickr IMG_3530 by Richard Opie, on Flickr And lastly, this is a 13" Advan A3A bolted on over top of the brakes. Plenty of room in there, there's about 3mm to the caliper however. But it's enough. IMG_3537 by Richard Opie, on Flickr Actually that wasn't lastly at all. I threw something in the engine bay to simulate the weight of a 4AGE over the front axle and get an idea of ride height. I think these springs are going to be a little soft however.
