  1. You may remember my (and beavers) old estate ....... I missed it like crazy Since then I built and sold this.... And after a lot of searching I got contacted about this last week. So today I payed for it, the base car is an original Triumph 2500 pi mk2 estate with 4 speed o/d. Was restored or tidied up in the early to mid 90's. Sadly a terrible aftermarket sunroof was added at this time, along with a modern roof rack which was screwed into the roof.... At least it is pretty much rust free Plans at this stage are to remove the sunroof and fill the holes in the roof along with a tidy up of the crazy cracking that has occurred at the rear of the roof and around the fuel cap. Rebuild the engine and tidy up engine bay.. Summer involves getting some coilovers made up and building some 15" 3 piece wheels to fit Future future involves new carpets, re trimming some retro fixed backs in the original leather from the spare front seats and re trimming the boot floor and back of rear seat in hardwood. Also has a tonne of spare parts including a full leather spare interior, a couple of Pi engines, a couple of o/d gearboxes, a few diffs and a nos tailgate and bottom valance I pick it up in 6 weeks time on the way back from uni will update then Heres a few more pictures... 2. Not much to report but any progress is good progress. Replacement gearbox is in, it probably would have taken longer but I had to move the car out of the shed I was renting cos the new owners wanted it empty. Once back in my own garage I had access to such luxuries as light and powerpoints and after much use of light and powerpoints I had my exhaust back together with extra clearance over the diff and a couple of flanges thrown in. I put some tyres on the rims and had a test fit, pretty good fit with the 8's, the 9's stick out an inch further due to offset so some work required. Incoming potato pics And because I can't stop fiddling with things I have plans to modify the cooling and charging areas. On the cooling side I am going to ditch the engine fan and fit a Volvo 2 speed unit. While at PaP I grabbed a dual thermo switch from a BMW which should have the temp settings I need to have it working properly with the thermostat. An inline housing for the switch is on its way, after a slight mod (tapping it to fit the BMW switch thread) it'll be usable. As far as the shroud, I'll probably fibreglass one up to suit. For charging I have an RB alternator to replace the stock externally regulated item. The wiring is pretty simple, may need a diode on the field circuit and the pulleys will need to be changed too. In less interesting news it also has a full complement of new balljoints in it, woooo

  3. Time to have a look at the booster and master cylinder. I found a crack in the Bakelite valve body but a mate in a local brake shop (thanks Kevin) donated some 2nd hand parts and a few new seals. Spent an evening turning this….. Into this…. And putting it back into the can’s…. To end up with this….

  4. Grinter: hey Dadums, funny thing happened to me today, I was mopping the bathroom floor, slipped over, and my ballsack and dick got stuck between my legs. I stood up, looked in the mirror, and it looked like I had a vagina! Dadums: whoa dude, that's seriously fucked! Same thing happened to me today as well... Snap! Grinter: Anyways, totally unrelated, but I can't make that cruise. Sad face. Dadums: me neither can't make it, for the same reason. Grinter: Dadums, have I told you that you rock? Dadums: Yes Grinter, you have.

  6. Here are my bicycles that I ride (or at least would like to) on a regular basis. Thought I'd post some pictures as some of you may be interested: The first is a Schwinn Fair Lady. The next is my trusty old Raleigh 20. Factory sport model with no luggage rack haha. I picked up a brand new old stock Brooks saddle for it in Napier during Hawkes Boes last year. I still need to give it a proper going over and improve the brakes, gets the gears working better and polish some parts again. I picked up another bicycle a few weeks ago. It's a Morrison something-or-rather (stickers say Mustang but that doesn't seem right to me) featuring a handy peep mirror, pennant flags (Kaikohe HardKore) and whitewall tyres. The rear hub seems to be seized but I will open it up and see what's going on in there. I'd like to be able to take it out for a spin. In the first picture of the yellow bicycle you can see another Raleigh 20 in purple. This belongs to another forum member who will be testing the frame strength at upcoming events.

  7. I think you're right. The front forks are definitely Raleigh and the headstock features a Raleigh ensign. Though the frame itself has what appears to be an original Morrison manufacturing logo. The tyres are 24 inches so it's surprisingly large.

  8. Knuckle progress, thanks to fletch here on old-school i have the loan of a tapered reamer so put it to work... I settled on 98rpm for the reaming speed. Then machined the outside taper and parted it off at the correct thickness. Knuckles now look like this, they have been on a bit of a diet..

  9. Why does SU and Lucas points dizzy mean it'll never run properly? The distributors aren't really a big issue on these except for maybe waterproofing when it comes to a 4wding sense. Carbs aren't difficult to sort out either. If you can't get something running nice on points and SUs or Strommys then you need to rethink whether you should be twiddling spanners on old cars. for dizzy if you're hating the stock lucas item then a mallory HEI dizzy or a 123ignition dizzy = sorted. Stock disco electronic is an option too but if you're messing round in rivers then it doesn;t help the wet running issues (dem fans love chucking water alllll over the dizzy) don't need no trigger wheel horse shit on these things mang. if you wanted to go injection then Discovery inlet manifold and most of the bits would have you cheesing for bugger all outlay. there's plenty of rotten discoverys out there at the moment. the lucas injection systems on disco 1s aren't hard to seperate to an engine loom and aren't too bad in a reliability sense. I've followed a fair few series and deefer build using MS and it seems that they all have horrific issues running them offroad when it comes to changing altitudes and low speed running etc. Pretty needless for something like an old landy when you can get good results from the stock stuff.

  10. The countdown is on. In only 6 days the old tina is making the the trip to the paint shop and will return looking like new. I have only a few little tidy up jobs to do to get her ready but I really looking foward to fit up time. As like all my other posts I will indulge you all in a few pics of the journey leading up to paint day. enjoy. I also finally got inside the boot done. Another thing off the list. That is all till next week.

  11. Hi Neil, that's some nice bikes you have there. I think the gold one is a Raleigh, maybe a NZ Fireball? It has Raleigh forks anyway. What size wheels does it have?

  12. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49929-pbaines-1985-ae86-corolla-levin/ Well, I have bought myself an AE86 in from Japan. Always wanted a Sprinter Trueno but ended up with a Levin as it costs a lot more for the Trueno (probably 4-5k NZD) but to be honest, after getting this Levin here I am over the moon. As an AE86 always does, there's a bit of rust here and there. It does need a repair cert but the fella i'm dealing with is very helpful so should be good to work with him to get it all sorted. Engine is built to N1 spec, and goes like the clappers! Needs a new CW & P though, as it is massively high strung at the moment and I sit at around 4200rpm at 100k so definitely not ideal at all. As it was in Japan at Stacked (best guys to deal with, highly recommended. Was shipped via AutoHub which was 100% hassle free) THEN It was time to get it on the boat. But not after removing the side skirts and raising the suspension, with the greatest method of adding nuts as spacement. It was on the top of the list to go 'remedy' from the VINZ inspection too Lastly Here is the VINZ inspection sheet.

  13. Hi, Just got back from the States. Picked up a C10 Fleetside truck, Custom cab, big window, factory v8 engine, manual. Found it at Pomona swap meet, was one of the more realistic priced car/trucks there. Bought it off some nice Spanish low riders. Pilled heaps of stuff on the back and drove it 100 miles to the next hotel. Got hold of Lucky's towing and had it sent to the shippers to be packed with some other crap and sent back to NZ. Also while there visited a lot of rod shops and car places. Picked up a airbag kit for it, drop spindles and stud conversion. which I'll be installing when it arrives in NZ. Now its just a waiting game. Discuasion Thread

  15. Good score with the turbo Sigma, I've always had a soft spot for these things, God knows why, it's certainly worth swing based on rarity alone isn't it?

  16. Go FI and never look back! carbs are 50 fudges in a tiny mechanical box while FI is elegant and functional not to mention easy as to tune! I'm all for carbs but now i've learnt the way of efi i'm a changed man.

  18. OK .....steering time .need to sort this so the motor and box can go back in so I know where the turbo down pipe will go So in turn I can finish making the firewall/tunnel.. So i put the car back on the rotisserie and flipped it on the side. I have no intentions of fucking with the Ackerman geometry but I will be going rack and pinion so I'll be using all the factory cortina parts in the original place . Seeing as the engine is front sump as well as the steering arms facing backward I'm just going to mount the rack behind the cross member. So bolted shit back in and ran a string line from steering arm to steering arm. Once I get the rack where it should be I'll cut the temporary cross member brace out and tie the cross member and steering rack together.and then its just a matter of drill steering arms for mk2 escort tie rods and using some rod extenders

  26. It worked perfect for me, mine had 3.3l Nissan diesel in it so was screaming its tits off at 75k with stock box/diff. Conversion allowed to cruise at ~90k fine. For towing heavier loads the clutch did appreciate it if I had it in low box though

  28. Got a e-level accuair kit while in Los Vegas off a guy who was going to bag his GS300 thanks craigslist, bought back in my check in. got searched at every stop in USA, must have looked like a bomb in the x-ray. Truck is in a container with a 64 impala my mate bought and a mean as old Oldsmobile, they are on the water, hopefully here in around a month in Wellington.

  29. Man, if you actually go ahead with the rv8 you have to put efi on it; the Lucas dizzy with SU carbs pretty much guarantee it'll never run properly. Do yourself a favour from the start. Something as simple as a microsquirt, 36-1 toothed wheel with a hall effect sensor, and a gm tbi throttle body would do you nicely. You would probably save the money in fuel savings along let alone as call outs haha

  31. haha this, because the difference is for sparkle to pay someone to do that fucking around, would cost a lot on pingas. I vote just disconnect the booster, lock out the back brakes, start this fucking thing up on doort some tyres into oblivion

  32. With a dual circuit system the OP would need to fit two remote hydrovacs. Not only would this be a big step backwards in braking technology it would result in an overly complicated, less reliable system with reduced feel and driveability that would be at best described as a “bloody plumbers nightmare”. (No offence intended but I have had far too much experience with such systems in the past). My guess would be to relocate the battery to the boot (or rear foot well if it’s a competition car) and relocate the existing mastervac/master-cylinder assembly offset to the left in front of the strut tower. Have a look at some of the early Escort extended booster setups for inspiration. What can I say; absolutely love the car, love the project. Shame you’re not closer to Auck., if I can have a good crawl over a car I can usually figure the brakes. (Worked for PBR in Aussi in the late 70’s, APPCO Brake and Clutch in NZ in the early 80’s and have been building/co-driving Targa cars for the last 20 years). Keep us all informed with your progress.

  33. I wasn’t happy with the condition of the lower wishbones…. I didn't realize how scarce on the ground HR Holden parts were getting but a quick call to Bernie at Horopito Wreckers (Smash Palace) and a replacement pair was on the way, you guys rock! The R&P looked so good that I just shouted it some new grease, a set of boots and a lick of paint. A box of new suspension joints had arrived from KC spares in Aussie and I couldn’t resist assembling some of the front end.

  35. got new adaptor plate and this time it fits both the manifold and the superdupercharger at the same time. 2015-09-02_05-08-45 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-09-02_05-08-03 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-09-02_05-05-45 by sheepers, on Flickr so there you have it. all the mechanical parts are made and I've bought almost everything i need to do the conversion, just need a new clutch and to get my gearbox fixed when its out of the car. but, the end of the year is coming at me like fat woman approaches the buffet so i gotta get the other car done. this means this will be on hold until i get the TA23 a whole bunch further along. i dunno, January?

  39. yup, exactly how i did it! the comic was paper and the rising sun was a sticker. i say unwanted attention as they weren't large as previous ones of mine were, i had 3 1/2 twin bozos that went up to the boot lid and cops hated them! so no, nothing to do with noise just shear size

  40. Boom, Also because I am not a mathematical genius the first cut i did was with the compound slide angle set to 7 and a bit degrees. It looked screwy until i figured i needed to set a smidge over 3.5 degrees to the the total angle.. Duh.

  42. So full rebuild time means you need a classic car ( chevette) to see you through while you do the repairs. That way you can cruise about in your old car (chevette) and go to some meets in your old car (chevette) while impressing the local Nelson ladies in your cool old car (chevette) I know just the car (chevette) you need..... Its a Chevette!

  43. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo some more rims turned up. I was looking for some 15x8 Streets to go with the 9's I already have but the only ones I had seen on Yahoo in the last 6 months were part of a set along with some 7's and were too pricey. Only option then was to go new. Moonlight Racing sussed it all out with Hayashi and after a couple weeks they were on their way. Yummy Other things that have happened; Gearbox is out so can be swapped with a better condition one. Exhaust is in pieces to tweak for clearance and add some flanges. Have also refitted my TS-X11's after painting them black (didn't like the silver and my black TS-X7's are too small), added a small amp and some 6" subwoofers under the parcel tray to add a bit of bass, seems to do the job without being silly.

  44. I've been busy so here is a long overdue Update. I've set my Igniton Idle Timing set the mixture replaced the rear Unijoint (socket and bench vice method, Thanks youtube) filled up the trans with fluid gone for a drive. yep thats it guys I'm finally back to where I started with a running driving vehicle and I'm pretty happy for now there are further tuning tweaks to make but for now it will do . I also had the oppurtunity to get to the North Otago Hotel Show and Shine on Feb 22nd. got mixed results, old dudes loved it and the young'uns said it was too "old man" cruising on HWY83 at the show and shine

  45. Stacks, heatshield and carb gaskets in, also repositioned the fuel unions as they would loosen slightly on long drives from harsh bumps. Big thanks to Manu for turning down two of my auxiliary venturis to allow the tubes to slide into the carb nicely. These turned up today A bit of oxidation but nothing too bad, in pretty damn good condition otherwise, I'm digging the gold so will leave it as is Currently elbow deep in dash wiring, hopefully I can get the new dash working soon, I have the loom for it as the pin-outs are different from my one but it also looks like the plugs are physically different, a pain in the bum but not the end of the world.
