  1. The dudes son dropped it off with the family tow truck this morning. I had the day off so right dug in. bleugh rust on the roof edge is actually not that bad put my finger through that spot above it tho engines all there, but sump has some big flatspots in it so may whip that off to check the oil pump is ok before trying to start it up. 1.5 sets of 'old' sparks from the 125 to replace the manky old champions that were just sitting in the holes. one has some gak (dried crc or some suck) in the thread so i need a tap to get a couple started - dont want to rush it and cross thread a spark plug. Filled the holes while i hosed it off anyway. Its both better and worse than i thought. Smells like rat piss tho, so ill pull the interior out tomorrow, It all needs to come out to fix the floor anyway and to get the wet sound deadening off. So I started on the boot, lots of wax oyl already there Still needs couple patches in the spare wheel well, and some work around the tail gate like any old wagon should. Gave the outside about 3 washes and its looking much cleaner. Front brakes are not seized and have what look like new pads (can see stamped writing on the backing and pad material, and unworn but surface rusty discs. Noice. Hope the rears are just as good. Also, some of the rear bumper is not rustly YAY

  3. Got the new window rubber in. No more wet floor! Bought some semi-sealed beam headlights from Olds Cool Autos and some H4 bulbs. Sooo much better and brighter. That's about all really. New wheels should be here next month, can't wait!

  4. So this is arriving in my hot little hands in an hour or two, assuming it doesnt blow up and/or my sister does not crash it on the road from picton. I am such a dick, I dont like British cars, and anything not a wagon is stupid, so obviously I have acquired a british saloon. Got it from a mate in AKL who has had it for many years. He only let me have it on the basis that I slam it, so me and sidewaysickness have been planning that out. There will be more pics when it has arrived, but here is a potato quality one from my sister as she left Picton just now. Discussion Thread

  5. This week i started applying some of the door signage. I had a friend sign writer make me up some stencils, and another buddy mix up some paint. I ended up brushing it on and will buff it in a week or two to get it thin and patchy in spots. Ill probably get someone to write either "salvage vehicle" or "recovery vehicle" in a semicircle underneath by hand, as my hands are shakier than Michael Fox eating jelly on a plane.

  6. Mate, 8 year old down syndrome kids take the piss out of my hand writing.... I better not I have been thinking about the plaque and I still love the idea but I also want to put a monza style fuel cap on the back. The fuel tank will be in the tail. Will it be too much having a plaque and the fuel cap? If I have both I would make them both the same colour. What do you guys think? The only thing worse than my hand writing is my welding.... So I found this next part very difficult. Luckily I managed to hide most of the welds. The 4 to 1 collector is just mocked up, not welded yet. I might get a mate to do it as my nick name should be Dr spatter. I don't think my shitty little gasless mig helps the cause.

  7. Did a bit of tunnel massage today. Usually it's the bellhousing but this R154 is pretty big in the guts. So up she went and bolted onto the factory gearbox mount. I then lifted the engine to clear the sump from the cross member by about 5 mm. This meant I needed a mount to go from the new engine mounts to the subframe that was 30mm. Made a few calls and looked at a few books and ordered from the mount shop a Land Rover engine mount. It's 65mm round with a stud on each side and is 36mm so I'm happy with that. I will now make a plate that makes the subframe mount nice and flat and will drill a hole right where I need it. Most likely slot it vertically as the engine mount is slotted horizontally. That will give me all the adjustment I need. Once that's done the auto sparky is coming around to start the new wiring. Might also have a play with the exhaust headers soon while I'm putting the engine in and out.

  8. Not really any other clues. But the guy has said it can stay there as long as I need. So that solves my issue (well the car storage issue, not the BMC Foamer issue, that's never going to go away )

  9. Easy enough to do that but where's the fun?

  10. towed it down to work to do the exhaust i had over adjusted the brakes, so adjusted them again today and backed them off a bit, sits at not a bad height id almost say it needs to go down slightly more in the rear just a touch? chucked the new dizzy bits together and checked the lead lengths, looks all good, need to suss the wiring for it next exhaust has been made and sitting in place, just needs the mounts welded on then pull it out to paint then back in and weld muffler in, stoked with the job they did need to get the carb back on, suss more wiring and grease every thing while its up on the hoist. also have the little brothers escort down the shed, t has a 12a and s1 box that needs the gearbox out, it crunches into 2nd and 3rd.

  12. I had a productive day today, I was on call with work but didn't get called in so I was effectively paid to work on this thing I should have been in a rocking chair smoking a pipe while whitteling away at this. Only one more plank to put on then just sand the hell out of it. I wanted some better looking tyres and came across these bad boys on trade me, the price was right.... Free!!! I don't know that they will fit for sure as they are quite a bit wider but if they do I think they will look awesome! I started on the exhaust today, I am making 3 other dummy pipes along with the real one that run into a 4 to 1 collector then a wee muffler. I hope I can get it looking good, it sucks being such newb welder, my first weld was this projects first weld.... I started on the steering too, its a bit of a random set up as I want the body to be removable with out too much hasstle. Another picture of the tail just because im loving it at the moment. Cheers again Skinner for the wood!!!

  13. Discussion here - //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49350-brend0nzs-1969-ford-escort-mk1-coupe-discussion/ Hey Guys and Gals! Im a 21 year old Diesel mechanic apprentice. Originally from Nelson but now living in Wellington. So I finally got around to getting my esky off the road and can now begin working on it to get it mint! I bought this car 2 years ago off a guy in the Wairarapa. Im from Nelson so he drove it over the Rimitakas and i met him at the airport, then i ferried it back to Nelson.. I had only owned this car for around 5 hours and i already had a list of mechanical faults that needed mending. Over the hill it blew a huge hole in the headers and was making a hell of a racket. The points decided to seize shut after i turned it off to board the ferry. Half way home from Picton the alternator stopped charging which left me stranded in the dark at 12am in the morning in the midde of nowhere. Safe to say i was introduced to owning a old school car the hard way, anyways my faith in the esky lived on. 1600xflow Mild cam Unsure of carb size, its off a 2l pinto tho i have been told Good set of flows 0.002" oversize pistons Has had some head work, unsure exactly what 4 Speed box 4.4:1 diff First pic is the day morning after i got it back to Nelson, Below are the pics of its condition when i begun.

  19. Ordered some seat covers from the states and got Greg (64 Valiant) to fit and trim them to the seats. Before in not too bad condition considering. Vinyl was really brittle and hard. After! The lighting isn't great but you get the idea. Make-shift solutions are often the most comfortable... okay maybe not this one. I'm really happy with the colour match. Big ups to Greggles for his work.

  37. Engine is back in the hole... But a man smarter than me has pointed out I have the wrong type of pressure regulator, which will explain the over fueling I have after a period on boost... By happy co-incidence I found Weber Specialties stand and the speed show and had a chat to Murray who tells me they have a regulator designed specifically for blow through twin carb

  39. Testament went and checked it out back in 2009. Im pretty sure its not moved in that time, and 5 long years in that leaky car port hasnt done it any favours but its hopefully still savable and looks pretty much the same just mouldier. Photos shamelessly stolen from Toms thread on T124, unsure of the photographer: rust hole in floor - this is the only 'major' rust I saw - plenty of minor stuff to keep me busy for a while including the roof. room for a double DIN dvd player?

  43. new page, new happenings. mainly this. Untitled by sheepers, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers, on Flickr many thanks to Dan (ta63-1uzze) for the dummy engine. with it i have been able to see that the manifold i made actually fits the motor and also that i should be able to get the whole shebang under the bonnet. using science (taping a crown horn button to the front of the motor and closing the bonnet) i have calculated that i should have about 10mm gap between the bonnet and the pulley. pretty happy about this. Untitled by sheepers, on Flickr Untitled by sheepers, on Flickr other things that have come to light, i should be able to get the pulley forward enough by making a new one with a slightly different offset. i had previously thought that id have to make a new snout but a pulley should do the trick to get the belt drives to line up. gotta make an adaptor plate to bolt the superdupercharger to the manifold. I've done most of the work for this so that shouldn't take to long. excitement!!!!!

  47. Discuss here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/41386-speenos-fifty-chebby/ So finally today my new project was delivered! top effort from the guy I brought it off to deliver it. SO the deal with this chevy is that it is a 1950 Aussie new chev, built in Ontario Canada and shipped over here for some final assembly (mostly trim I am lead to believe). The guy I got it off owns a coach building business that now mostly does hotrods, his work is amazing. He had about 4 projects on the go was moving shed so this had to go, ended up getting it for 4K which considering all the stuff that is there is a good deal (any Chevy like this here that is driving is like 20k+). The guy got it off the previous owner who had done the chop work and the 2 door conversion, he was the original owner for 48 years or something silly! apparently had all the chop work done at a shop and spent like 8k, which is reasonable for how much work they have done, its all legit too. As I was saying in Spam you can see that the rear proportions are off, not enough slope at the back! guy I picked it up off would happily redo the chop for a reasonable price (he thinks maybe 2 days work ~1k) something to think about in the future. One thing I like about it was how solid the body was. Most of the nice examples you see around the net as projects are pretty fucked when they get into them. This thing has a few small holes in both front floor pans, sills are not so good and a little around the lower boot valance thingy, pretty good. Has soooo many leaves and shit in it from sitting at the old jokers place for years. More to come soon.
