Evan Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 I think I saw a 1J something or another at Zebra manukau today, maybe. But anyway this is a shitter of a thing to have happen 1 Quote
xsspeed Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Yeah theres definitely something else jz powered there Quote
Dell'orto Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Thats gayer than cockmeat sandwiches. Are NA heads usable? Quote
ryanfels Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Nah the na heads have different bolt patterns for the exhaust and intake compared to the turbo heads. I didn't realise the vvti heads were different as well though but I guess that makes sense Quote
Roman Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Awww man sorry to hear about the motor... So close to epic dyno goodness!  On the bright side I guess it's good that a non VVTI 1JZ head is probably the easiest to source out of all the turbo heads. Quote
Popular Post BLIZZO Posted October 30, 2016 Popular Post Posted October 30, 2016 man that is gay. On a positive note i have a spare head laying around you may be interested in. Im sure a man of your engineering genius could modify it to fit. Â 14 Quote
sentra Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 for my bi-curiousity, how far off the mark was the tightness? Quote
sheepers Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 i can't remember the figure they gave me unfortunately. the bolts are M8 and when it came to undoing them with an average 3/8 drive ratchet they were very difficult to crack. i did them up with a half inch torque wrench that is pretty long so i wouldn't have felt how tight i was actually doing them if you know what i mean. Quote
M M Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Sorry to hear about that man, especially after all that's happened with this car. Quote
cletus Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Did you strip it to check for rubbish in the sump and bearings etc? Find much damage in there? Quote
sheepers Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 yep, took one cap of old motor and it was fucked. crank scored to fuck and main bearing full of shit. didn't bother going any further than that. old motor was fucked. Quote
cletus Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 stink. Â so thats another new short block? Quote
Seedy Al Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 Holy fucken fuck man. That is super gay. I am sorry for your feels. Fuck those caps must have been intensely tight. I would guess setting to be around 20nm? Sucks you got given the wrong info. Hopefully this is seen as a lesson to everyone reading this thread. Always double check your work. For instance once cam caps are torqued down, should always check to make sure you're cams rotate in the head. Which they would not have at a guess here. Guts. Mega mega guts. 2 Quote
Yowzer Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 How'd it all get past the filter? Blocked it up and bypassed? Quote
sheepers Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 it hurts to even type it but yes, thats a new short block assembly. hindsight is 20 20 as they say but i really should have checked the figures i was given before i torqued the cams. i didn't, everything got fucked.  no idea how shit got past the filter but id say that once a tiny bit of grinding paste got into the mains they began generating their own grinding fragments and really went to town. anywho, its done now.today i made a new water feed pipe for the heater tap and tidied up some hoses and whatnot. 2 Quote
