  5. I have my hilux diff getting the rx2 brackets welded on at the moment and then I will have the axles re splined and cut. I'm having to re drill the hub 4x110 as well as the new s5 rx7 brakes and have the hub centre turned down on a lathe so I can fit and locate my Simmons. Bosch 044 fuel pump purchased the other day too. Arches done inner and outer - just needs to be tidied up and painted in the similar colour to the body. Plates are all skimmed and now I have to have the rotating assembly balanced AGAIN due to the new rotors.... Struts ready in a couple of weeks and I hope to have it rolling as soon as I get the shell back.

  8. this thread is so racist, what about the jews? anyway, inspired by this thread, i did some experimentation. BF falcon with 285km on it. my usual figures according to the trip meter are 13l/100km if i dont touch it for a while, my average speed is 33kph. i did a run down the motorway from new lynn to papakura, 80-90kph driving with feather boots and putting it in neutral when coasting or going downhill. hit the reset button getting on and off the motorway, 7.3l/100km drove from papakura to pukekohe, normal motorway driving not paying any attention to economy, 105-110kph, 8.6l/100km drove from pukekohe- highbrook. tried pulse-glide thing, going between 95-110, got annoyed at that and followed a truck as close as safe, neutral down hill or when slowing, 90-95 behind the truck. that got down to 6.3l/100km.

  12. Something interesting about driving with a live axle that I've noticed over the last while. I start going into a corner and the car will roll a bit. But then as roll increases I think the shock on the inside reaches its limit of travel and you can feel it start to pull the diff up off the ground. Something like this It feels like the cars rear roll centre is at the centre of the car to start with, then moves to the outside wheel once the inside wheel starts getting pulled up off the ground. But it's two very noticeable characteristics before the car will lift and inside wheel or start oversteering. You can feel when the car gets to that "wheel lift" point (and try keep the car below that point) well before its lost traction or anything like that. IRS is for quitters

  13. This was a lot of fun the last time I went. Consider me interested. The temptation to take the hilux on track may get the better of me, which I will no doubt, quickly regret.

  18. Little bit of progress recently. Purchased an Arduino Mega 2560 so I can start building a Speeduino ECU to eventually run in this. Looking forward to the experience and the learning that will come along with it! It should arrive tomorrow, when it does I will be able to upload the Speeduino software to the board and have a little play (obviously without any actual inputs or outputs). For those interested in the ECU, you can find information here.

  20. I'm heading to a Taupo trackday, full track on Friday September 2nd... Only $150 for a full day of hooning around! Generally only 25-30 cars total, so the tracktime you get is HEAPS compared to any other event I've ever been to. Anyone else keen to come along? Would be cool to have some other OS peeps there. See link below for details, you just need a car with wof/reg, overalls, and a helmet. It's not a drift day though. If your car lacks wof/reg because it's a dedicated track car or whatever, not necessarily an issue but just need to discuss with the guy running the event. (It's generally fine) http://www.gpforums....s-all-booked-in My old man is gonna bring his JZX90 down for a hoon around as well. Get amongst it!

  24. The Speeduino forums are VERY active. I have already posted in there and have received a little bit of help. The arduino has arrived, I have uploaded the code to it and connected it to TunerStudio and had a nosy. It looks pretty straightforward and there is so much you can do, especially with the cost of the arduino itself!

  25. That is interdasting. Sounds similar to a de-Dion setup but with a watts linkage added?

  34. Useless update. As above, chucked springs in, have settled a bit bit still need a tweak, perhaps a job for the long weekend. Had also become difficult to start in the last month or so, to the point of draining the battery every other time. Is still somewhat difficult to start when jumped so I started with the glow plugs. New battery will follow. Oddly, but correct according to the internet, the front 3 cylinders use one type of plug, the back 3 use a different type. New plugs were all 6.5v, two different types. Made sense. Pulled old plugs, three were the same as the new ones, 3 were 11v plugs. Aha! I thought I had found the issue. Chucked full set of new plugs in. Wouldn't start. Hooked up to another batter, still no go. Hmmmmm. So, I did what I should have done first and look a closer look at the glow circuit. Back 3 plugs have a second power feed which I assume is an after glow circuit, and would make sense as to why the plugs are different. However, in a previous life someone had bypassed the factory glow system and wired up a push button manual glow. Warning bell No.1. This meant after glow circuit was useless so removed it from the plugs. Checked voltage at the plugs, 12v/battery voltage when pressing the glow button. Warning bell number 2. Did the math in my head, 12v into 6.5v does not go. Warning bell number 3. Chucked the 3 11v plugs back in the the car started. So it turns out that most likely only 3 of the plugs were actually working (the 11v ones), and other 3 (6v) were probably fried a long time ago. This makes sense as each time it starts it sounds like its running on a couple of cylinders and takes 5 secs or so for the others to catch on. So to fix I have ordered a full set of 12v plugs from a later model rd28. Fingers crossed this will do the trick, Then I should probably get a new battery, Should have stuck to just cutting the springs really. I am Andrew, aged 27, and that is my story.

  40. long time no thread.. had the inspector around today and he said this shit's legit, compliance cert on the way! so first things first, thanks to all you GCs who pitched in on this, some from OS and some not. you all flat out refused payment, so i owe ya bigtime. I was packing my undies this morning, being a house rookie. then the inspector walked up the driveway with his father christmas beard, introduced himself as Barry, and i thought sheeeeit haha and he was all good - comments included 'put the bloody smoke alarm up', 'its different', 'i did the one down the road', and 'waste of a good drill press for the letterbox' so here are some pics of how it stands today, complete with unfinished stuff, dirty dishes and whatever.

  45. And that's all for March. More to come in April, but this baby will take me until November or December to finish as I only have about half a day a week free, so it'll be a wee while between meaningful updates. I'd love to have the subfloor finished by May. Always May EDIT: Oh, I should probably share the view that'll be from the cabin's second deck. There will be two decks, one covered and hard up against the cabin (that'll have an outdoor kitchen), but there shall also be a second deck a few meters away with an outdoor dining table. This is what that dining table will look at. I quite like it (sorry about the horizon).

  46. Here is a before and after shot of the "banana" rx2 s3 cross member. These are desirable due to the fact they are for front mounted 12a engines. I'm running an old school 13b with a 12a front cover. After a wire wheel and rust etch. I will be painting it black along with the steering components soon. And a good mate gave me this K&N Carbon fibre intake to whack onto the quad throttle body intake we are working on. Think these are used on sprint cars.

  47. They see me rollin - they hatin... Tidied up the old 618 gas tank After Getting into my rust repair arch panels form a genuine rx2 coupe - spot weld eradication Now for the money shot.... I sent my Simmons FR17 x7 rears to Heads Racing and they re lipped them to 8.5" using 3.5" outlets. Let's just say that I am more than happy with the outcome Test fit...no diff of tyres I'm loving it New computer and loom for the injection And here is a sample of my buffing exploits You like that??? I have done the sill, front windscreen and rear windscreen chrome now. This should pop against the patina. I cleaned up and rust killed the s3 rx2 cross member. Sold my rx3 cross member set up for the original unit so I can have the motor set back a bit. I also took a punt on some Honda adjusties and it appears that the rears will slot in once I get new bushes. So that's about it for now. Ordering my last few seals and the engine is getting built the weekend of RE Union in Taupo mid Feb. To say that I'm pumped is an understatement.
