  1. I've been doing a few bits and pieces that really don't add up to much but its all got to be done. so door latches are in and working, I'm missing a passengers door handle but its Mike to the rescue again there. what else? rear quarter window installed (only one because I'm missing a guide) and also i got the hood lining recovered and i picked that up yesterday so thats ready to go in. today i made the trim bits for the inside of the A pillar and glued them in, then i put the windscreen in. that was BY FAR the most difficult windscreen I've ever had to install, don't know why it was just a cunt. my fingers are destroyed but its in. now i can install the head lining (it sits on a secondary lip on the front windscreen rubber) and put the rear glass in too. hopefully thats not such a cunt to install…. 2016-02-10_06-26-10 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_06-26-41 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_06-26-55 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_06-26-27 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_06-27-10 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_08-41-45 by sheepers, on Flickr

  4. So, not a lot to report lately. Picked up a TE27 brake booster and accelerator pedal out of Japan. The landlord has decided to sell our house. We tried to buy it, but it's Auckland so unless I sell my organs, I can't afford it. So we have to move, which has put any work on the car on hold.......BUT I am moving back to the waikato, and I get a four car garage/workshop and a whole bunch of time off.........not too shabby. So this time next month I'll have a new workshop and the shell finally on the spit ready for some major progress Goodbye Auckland!!! Discussion thread here http://oldschool.co....4-ke25-corolla/

  7. Collected it from dyno tune today. No issues. Once it's legal I take it back for the "road tune". I'm pleased with the results. High and low boost. Try tried increasing the boost further, but it made less power, because heat. More power needs better or bigger turbo.

  8. So long time fuck all happening. Life/other car took all my money so not a lot has been happening to this. Buuuttttt It now moves. Haven't moved it far as it has no brakes but it does. Got my driveshaft lengthened and chucked it all in. There is a hell of a noise coming from the engine which i am praying is only lifters, I think the noise was amplified a bit by being inside the garage so will pull it out tomorrow and whip the cam covers off to have a look. Umm what else. Oh got another dash as my one wasn't coming up with the speedo, revs, fuel or temp as it is digital. I know the dash i got is good cause i saw it working but its still doing the same thing, so need to check some simple shit to see if its a fuse or earth, if not its off to a auto sparky. Painted the rear strips, only thing is they are really warped so they stick out but isn't a lot i can do about that, and all the other ones ive seen are rusted away so they will do for now. Am selling my Celica so will be using the BCs out of that in this, and have test fitted a 9j with tire on to see how much work i need to do to fit them, quite pleased to say not a lot. Am supposed to be taking this to Nats so am pushing it a bit haha Talk shit about my shit : //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/50314-beachlanders-mz12-discussion/

  10. A long overdue update. After many promises of the Holden will be next to be finished at the panel shop there has been big progress over the last couple of weeks. Trevor the owner of the shop has been doing most of the work and now 90% of the cutting and welding has been completed. Here is a couple of photos that really don't look that different from while ago. I guess the great thing is that when its finished I know that all the rust is gone and it will be fill with fish oil so it wont be coming back any time soon.

  12. Here are my bicycles that I ride (or at least would like to) on a regular basis. Thought I'd post some pictures as some of you may be interested: The first is a Schwinn Fair Lady. The next is my trusty old Raleigh 20. Factory sport model with no luggage rack haha. I picked up a brand new old stock Brooks saddle for it in Napier during Hawkes Boes last year. I still need to give it a proper going over and improve the brakes, gets the gears working better and polish some parts again. I picked up another bicycle a few weeks ago. It's a Morrison something-or-rather (stickers say Mustang but that doesn't seem right to me) featuring a handy peep mirror, pennant flags (Kaikohe HardKore) and whitewall tyres. The rear hub seems to be seized but I will open it up and see what's going on in there. I'd like to be able to take it out for a spin. In the first picture of the yellow bicycle you can see another Raleigh 20 in purple. This belongs to another forum member who will be testing the frame strength at upcoming events.

  13. Found our old BMX in my sister's garage this weekend. I have a wee niece now and have been looking for a new bike project so here goes. These wheels are so pooozed. Some sweet stickers I'd like to get re-done. Definitely going to re-do the two frame pads, maybe have one which has my niece's name on it. Undecided if I want to keep the same style/graphic or think of something else. Gave some of the bits a wee scrub - comes up okayish but will probably just get them re-done. I'll never forget the guys face when I got my first bike sandblasted and I gave him a whole bike's worth of nuts, washers and my chrome bits on a big wire to get dipped. Or the guys at EDL when I took in a bag of mixed nuts to get new ones... I have the majority of it now dismantled, except the pedals - that can be tomorrow's job. Will try have a go at sandblasting it this weekend all things going well.

  16. Definitely download a cone program and make them out of sheet metal, I would use 1.6mm stainless, I had great success making spannys and my dry sump tank that way.

  17. Is the throttle body end round? It may be a 72 / 18 degree chamfer you need to do in just the top flange. Get someone smarter than me to double check my maths. It's late and I'm stupid. Alternatively, assuming the pipe is 1.2mm wall 38.1mm id plus 2.4mm wall is 40.5mm od. So only 2.5mm gap around each pipe to fill if you slide it inside the TB flange which is easily doable plus if you weld it inside and out then you can dremel a wee chamfer inside the pipe from the TB end.

  18. Here is some pics of what was underneath when the paint was stripped. There's a few old repairs which looks like they have been brazed in and the sorry state of the inner front guards and chassi rails can be seen. There is a couple of NOS inner guards on Fleabay at the moment so if they don't go for moon beams I'll score them. Have ordered the replacement panels for inside the boot and headlight rings from the MK 1 Cortina Owners Club so hopefully they will be here later next week. Greg reckons he can make everything else so all good!

  27. The cupboard in the bathroom has been finalized and undercoated, the cupboard has a false back for access to the shower plumbing and two shelves set above half height, the balance of the space will be used for hanging cloths jackets etc The balance of the bathroom has been undercoated, All set now for decorative floor. The stairway to the front loft has been made and fitted. Bottom section is removable to access what will become a technical space, it is likely I will fit the water pumps and hot water boiler within this area. View looking up to front loft, all lined, some insulation to ceiling fitted. Had to narrow up access in order to fit bed arrangement, bed will sit north south with the bed head across this bulkhead.

  29. Its 370mm from guard inner lip to the rail, because of the taper of the guard, that goes down to a bit narrower, should still have 320 mm up in the guard to allow for full suspension travel. So I should be able to run a 10" rim with a 275 tyre easily

  30. Another moment of stupidity and I'm now the owner of a 32 channel Calrec S analog mixing desk. I figured it's a winter project with the assumption that it's going to freeze over for the next decade and I'll then emerge with a 3ft beard and a completed desk. The unit came with tons of spares, reportedly cost upwards of $750k when purchased in the early 2000's and there won't be a person here that hasn't heard the results of this desk. Its both a bit of NZ broadcasting history and also an interesting project to add to the collection and help to kit out my retro analog sound room/studio when it's completed. In it's current naked state What it's supposed to look like. It takes a truckload of cards like this

  31. Finished the amp today and it works. Stoked. I have a metal enclosure that I'll put it in tomorrow and see where I can hide it. Might need a small pre amp for A ipod or similar as its a bit quiet. It gets plenty loud when plugged into the computer. I will see if I can trace the AM tuner output in the factory radio and tap into that and use this amp Edit: While doing the seat cover I felt what I thought was a tissue but it was worse

  32. So. It seems I really only update this thread like once every year... Holy shit I am slack... Anyway, this update sucks. For the last year, the car has sat in the garage in Auckland. I was really hoping that due to the proximity (it's in the same fucking house as me!) that I would be able to crack into the bitch and get it all ready for assembly this summer. Well, summer has come and it's far from ready. I've finished off welding on the sills (need to trim off excess), and finished all the firewall fabrication - It just needs some sort of underseal or something to make it look less shit-house: I have tried and failed multiple methods of actually mounting the engine now, and just can't seem to get it right. It's a combination of having an utterly shit welder, BEING utterly shit at welding and not being strong enough to wrangle the engine into position for measuring and fabbing. The sad reason for this is that over the last few months I have had monumental health fuck ups. Initially some sort of infection, then essentially flu symptoms (all-over aching and weakness etc) that have lasted for weeks on end. At one point, also was hospitalised by the pain, which turned out to be kidney swelling and tissue damage from this mystery illness. The latest, is that I have something wrong with my head. Now we all already knew that based on my choice of engine and car, but jokes aside, I've been having some rather interesting experiences, including Hallucinations, Synesthesia, paralysing headaches and constant nausea/ dizziness, in addition to a whole bunch of odd mood swings and anxiety. This has all obviously meant that working on the car has been VERY difficult. I managed to get mounts welded up and the engine in the hole, but then for some reason, after a bout of tears and weird paranoia, I cut it all off!! (seriously, I kind of came to my senses, hacking up the hours of welding I'd just done and muttering to myself all sorts of weird shit.) Pic here: The latest development is that after multiple visits to the doctors, (one of them seriously just googled my symptoms!) I have been referred for a CAT scan, but my work-perk health insurance just changed due to me getting a promotion at work (yay) unfortunately meaning that the policy restarts from the 12th and I am unable to make claims etc until then. I will have to wait it out until then to find out if I am growing a second brain, or have that psychokinesis tumor thing that John Travolta got in that 90s movie. My suspicion and hope is that it has to do with some sort of fucked-up sinus shape in my skull. My little sister had similar but much more mild (and less fun, if you enjoy seeing people that aren't there!) symptoms and ended up needing surgery to shave some of the bone away in her sinus cavity as it was putting pressure on her brain. Anyway, it all sort of sucks, so I have contacted a few fabricators around the city to get quotes for mounting the engine and trans up and therefore not having to worry about this bullshit. Failing that, or if my head stuff turns out to be worse than I hope, then I will look at selling the car. It does still have a rego on hold and I imagine with a shit-ton of work, someone could reverse all the blasphemic butchery that I have done to the car (or be awesome and actually carry on with this engine conversion!) I will let you all know if it has to be sold - and of course you motherfuckers will have first option! Anyway, wish me luck!

  34. I've at last made the rear crossmember and got it into place. The channels welded into the top corners are for fuel, brake and wiring. The hoop is made from 3mm steel plate, seam welded and formed into a 40mm box. This arrived yesterday, and it's f*ck*ng huge! It's certainly going to fill the engine bay nicely....

  37. Waiting on black spokes and polished hubs to arrive. I won't be pursuing the disc brake option with this bike. Due to the leading link suspension, the disc would end up being more of a show piece than anything with my plans, the last thing i"ll need is more weight. So if anyone wants a nice disc, hub and caliper set up let me know. This set up here: Disc, hub, caliper and bolts. If anyone is keen here, send me a message and I'll sort something out.

  38. So i pulled the leaves out of the front. looked like they were around the wrong way. as drivers side had more curve in it. swapped them over, now it leans to the other side even worse haha. might swap them back. hub finally arrived. time to go out and test the new locker.. this is with front locker in and auto locker rear. so all 4 locked. did a couple after this with the front locker disengaged , was far more controllable. so im guessing thats a sign it should be a whole lot better doing 4wd stuff, as well as doing helis like a munta

  40. Diff case almost done. just need to sort out a bump stop setup and make some caliper brackets. Then i cut a hole in it Welded up hole.. Have gained just over 20mm ground clearance. Doesn't sound alot. but its pretty much the same difference as going from 33" tyres to 35's. should have done the same to front when i had it apart.but didnt want to cut that sweet chrome. . Also, Someone in another thread awhile back, was saying how triangulated 4 links bind up with rose joints. Yeh nar nar nar.. only thing its binding up on is the ground.

  41. Done a little bit more. Tube across diff is thin wall(light weight yo), is basically there to tie all the suspension mounting points together and add a bit of strength to the diff. Same deal tying the towers together. 500mm of spring so far, have some 125mm keepers on the way. so will be tipple rate with 625mm of spring all up. 225lb, 80lb and 20lb (keeper). When it gets close to full travel the soft 80lb spring will get locked out, leaving only the harder 225lb spring in action. keeper will be there so can run lowish ride height, with heaps of droop.

  42. This will be max travel limited by my shock length. likely wont get quite this far with some springs in there though some double shear brackets to keep everyone happy probably should have ground that rust off..

  43. so been a while..... i went to os nats track day. had heaps of fun but on my 1st outing i had my tyre go flat :/ but i put more air in it and away it went so i done more of this and some of this after doing that i then re packed the valiant with all my camping gear looked kinda like this when we left my shop went threw to thames and brought a air bed and while leaving thames i spotted a few cars on the side off the road screamed at them. HEY ARE YOU GOING TO OS NATS. reply was yup do you know how to get there. reply was YUP FOLLOW ME!!!! so i got haunted all the way to nats camp site thinking i was on top gear episode followed by this proceeded to put my tent up in the rain next day drove to the coro and had a feed. valiants been going strong now. got told from the guys following me the day before i was loosing a bitta gas out the filler.... got to dirt tracks i was loosing HEAPS out the filler put a rag down the tube hoping it would kinda stop gas coming out.... (kinda worked) once everyone had left i done a skid got back just in time for some grub after this last day kinda bummed around took hundreds of photos and then headed home via the gravel road with chris r, shakatom and threeonthetree stopped in at thames so neal could buy some louvers. turns out they had these cool things as well make sure you read bottom line at this stage chris r had just brought a wagon and we were off to the tron to pick it up/look at it. so i took another photo all went well and made it home safe no major brakes or mishaps. a week later and i thought i better check why there was water under my car..... looks like i have a leak.... found it was at the bottom of the over flow so with the pressure building up in the radiator it was letting it out but not into my over flow bottle. so knowing that i kinda just went meh :/ and proceeded not to worry about it. mates asked me to help them out and use the valiant for a wedding car so done that. (cleaned all the mud of it) btw that chev is 500hp and he has owned it for 40 years. paid 800 dollars for it but back to the valiant beach hop was now near. thought i better fix a few things.... went and brought some rubber. and visited simon jaskon to cut me a hole in it (i was running really late and didnt want to go back to my work shop) with this now on i pulled the rag out all the gas has also taken all my paint off :/ after doing this i shot over to matamata to drop a job off and thought id try fix my radiator as well. so stopped in at my mates shop and i had a head pop over the fench saying "your off os right?" turned out this guy is Bigmatt4. he asked what i was doing and then ran around for 2 mins and then appeared with a blow torch and some soldering stuff. we ended up re soldering the over flow part back in and then he was on his way again. LEGEND DUDE I OW YOU A BEER with that done headed to beach hop where i had a good time and got really wet. (no i didnt go for a swim) also flushed the radiator with some flush stuff. man that crap is amazing i should have done it ages ago. today i went to vw nats in the valiant (cause the lemon doesnt go) and this happened. yea screw you too tyre! same tyre that went town at hampton downs and my spear tyre is bigger than my others so i carefully drove down the road to a little pub where i asked a elderly couple in there buss if they had a jack i could borrow so i could put my spare on the front. back on the road again. (thank you aucklanders in your buss) got to taupo and 1st stop was carters tyre shop. where i went it and asked if i could borrow there tyre machine and there little tyre valve screw driver. the dude was allll G about it, said he liked my gangster ride. top dude fully recommend the place. all i did was remove the little screw in valve and put a new one in as the air was coming direct out of the valve. ( dont ask me why it just was :/ ) um so yea changed that spare over and what not and went to turangi dropped some wheel bearings off, went back had a look at some vws at taupo, went to the race track see how miniman went with his racing and had a rum with markku. and the valiant is all locked up in the work shop with air in its tyre.

Took this for its first test run today. other than like driving a shopping trolley over boulders motivated by a kid with a.d.d (throttle bit touchy and suspension way to hard) and fuel pump relay having a mare. went pretty good we tried to find some mud, but just found bottomless swamps. lost the safari a couple of times
