  1. The next step was as simple as it was brutal; pull out the gas axe, the 9” and 4” grinders, the reciprocating saw, my treasured set of Whitworth/ AF sockets & spanners and show no mercy in the back yard. To be honest I’d been dreading this day for years; initially the plan was to put the new shell in storage but for some strange reason it was easier with it parked nearby in my driveway. I stuck the glasses and muffs on, looked Rigamortice squarely between the headlights, muttered “harden up you old tart this might hurt a bit’ and fired up my favourite big 9” grinder. (A small note here for any of the fairer sex that may be reading this thread; contrary to popular belief, yes size is everything!). “Skanky Sam” our cat however was giving me the evil eye, having bonded with Rigamortice for some years she knew what was coming. It was brutal and uncaring and I just did it, (and then drank the remaining the Wild Turkey).

  3. Alright so... I've pretty much stripped the whole thing out now. Yes there is areas that need attention but nothing that I didn't know about so she really is still a solid old whale. pics Pulled the engine and gearbox out. Wouldn't surprise me if its the first time the gearbox has seen daylight since being fitted! Good times!

  4. got new adaptor plate and this time it fits both the manifold and the superdupercharger at the same time. 2015-09-02_05-08-45 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-09-02_05-08-03 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-09-02_05-05-45 by sheepers, on Flickr so there you have it. all the mechanical parts are made and I've bought almost everything i need to do the conversion, just need a new clutch and to get my gearbox fixed when its out of the car. but, the end of the year is coming at me like fat woman approaches the buffet so i gotta get the other car done. this means this will be on hold until i get the TA23 a whole bunch further along. i dunno, January?

  6. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49929-pbaines-1985-ae86-corolla-levin/ Well, I have bought myself an AE86 in from Japan. Always wanted a Sprinter Trueno but ended up with a Levin as it costs a lot more for the Trueno (probably 4-5k NZD) but to be honest, after getting this Levin here I am over the moon. As an AE86 always does, there's a bit of rust here and there. It does need a repair cert but the fella i'm dealing with is very helpful so should be good to work with him to get it all sorted. Engine is built to N1 spec, and goes like the clappers! Needs a new CW & P though, as it is massively high strung at the moment and I sit at around 4200rpm at 100k so definitely not ideal at all. As it was in Japan at Stacked (best guys to deal with, highly recommended. Was shipped via AutoHub which was 100% hassle free) THEN It was time to get it on the boat. But not after removing the side skirts and raising the suspension, with the greatest method of adding nuts as spacement. It was on the top of the list to go 'remedy' from the VINZ inspection too Lastly Here is the VINZ inspection sheet.

  7. Today I set about fitting the German Sunmover solar panel. The idea is that the panel is controlled by magic so its always pointing at the sun, they claim to be 3 times more efficient than a fixed panel of the same output. The filthy roof before I started (note the tv aerial shoved out the hatch, I pick up the digital with that shit lol) You can hardly notice the clean spot Being a fiberglass roof I didn't think it was up to the challenge of supporting the weight of the panel and the controller, So after giving ladaspeed a quick dutch rudder he let me cut out a 800x800 square of 3mm sheet steel. This will sit between 2 of the internal framings so the weight shouldn't be an issue now. The sheet had a bit of surface rust so I killed the rust and painted it with leftover Hilux paint Brought some spendy and strong double sided tape and used that and alot of silicon sealer to fix it to the roof Attached the mounting plate using the same method as well as 6x 12g screws that go right through the fibreglass roof, add more silicon Mounted the panel and controller So now I need to run conduit and wiring to get that bitch online

  8. The lovely old guy selling the car looked me in the eye and summed me up. I gave him my best man up stare back, he told me the price, I nervously said yes, we shook hands and it was mine. The following week I picked up a car trailer and headed North with an old mate to bring it back. With it finally sitting in the driveway I couldn’t believe what I’d found, sometimes you just get lucky.

  9. Hey there guys and gals, My first car was a ke25 that I did a chicken wire and bog job on, and always wanted to restore it properly when I was all grown up. My dad sold it to a farmer who's kids trashed it and tipped out down a tomo I picked this up a few years ago (now that i'm all grown up) and the restoration began..... She's now fully stripped. And I've since collected a bunch of rare parts (ke25 and JDM TE27) and am waiting for the weather to improve so I can make a trip to Rototua and have the shell dipped. Plans are for a 20V Blacktop 7age with T50, Ae86 front shocks & brakes, Ae86 rear end with LSD and possibly repsol orange..... I'm pretty much a mechanical noob with limited experience so i'll do what I can and will have some pro's help along the way...... Any help from some seasoned Oldschool pro's would be much appreciated Discussion thread here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/49950-alasdairs-1974-ke25-corolla/

  13. Ryanfels old gx61 when it had a 1geu started running really shitty and from memory the cold start injector was flooding the engine. Another thing to check... I suspect you will end up having to swap everything efi/electrical sensor related from your 1GEU to the new motor. Start with the easy bits, hopefully it doesnt get too involved. GL.

  14. Yeah the fact that they didn't have a load rating or brand or anything that could be used to identify them was the problem. There were other issues with the hubs and axles that related to the different stud pattern Basically getting the new rims in the 4 x 108 stud pattern meant I could sort the other issues

  23. This pic was taken to show what happened to the gauge. This would have occurred sometime after the last pic was taken of it pegging the dial. When i was putting it away the next morning I noticed the needle could not be seen on the gauge ... plus the gauge looked a little faded and shit. I peered into it trying to see what happened to the needle ... couldn't see nothing so pulled it apart. It must have got hot. The needle got toasted and all of the 'black' left the gauge face and turned into this reddy color. Don't leave these things in your shed together ... because they breed like little fricken Daleks.

  25. Took this to OS Hamner meat's. 300km trip. BC Coilovers are amazing. Had them on full hard with 3 people and a fully loaded car and it was good! Need to raise motor as it had a few hits, 1 overfull gearbox dumped its excess onto exhaust while overtaking and made some smoke and it needs a longer diff as 3800rpm is not fun for 1.5hours each way. 27. Suddenly our son is 19 years old; the latest race car (135I BMW) doesn’t need me working on it every night and Sharon’s dropping none too subtle hints about cleaning up the back yard. Could it be time for a Rigamortice resurrection! With some trepidation I pulled off the obligatory blue Warehouse tarpaulin and surveyed the remains of a car that I’d bought 43 years ago…. It was obvious that the ravages of time and damage from the last accident had reduced my old ride Rigamortice to the stage where she needed one big resto job…….

  28. Pulled the cab off the chassis today. Flipped the chassis upside down so I can finish welding the c-notch. Once that's done it can probably go to get sandblasted. Heaps of room under the bonnet for a supercharger

  29. Ended up going back to the wrecker and raiding the last of the supersallon bits off the car .i now have a full factory black interior and various bits of more chrome.also scored another diff and housing which i will convert to disc brake and a estima diff that bolts straight in.My short shifter from oz turned up and reduces the shift by up to 50% looks and works great on the newly reconditioned w57.motor is now in the hole.just need to fab up some engine and gearbox mounts.sump misses the cross member and steering linkage but the front damper pulley is touching the sway bar.Am i aloud to cut and add in a new section?. ITBs clear everything which was my main concern, and shell be tight up where the radiator goes. Cube short shifter

  30. I though I would post a few pics of the progress of my 1964 powered wheel barrow. I picked it up off a farm where it had been since the late 70s and decided it needed to be restored when I got it the engine was seized up really tight but I freed it up and put new rings in it now iv stripped it down and I'm painting all the parts for it. Here is a pic of it after I got it.

  31. Go tthe mrs to give me ahand to crank this over today, I got her to write down the compression tests (before it started) Not so good on 3 and 4! However ITS ALIVE! https://youtu.be/HCPhc2MetpI https://youtu.be/HCPhc2MetpI Mrs actually got it going first, shes stoked, lol, this my my first start. fresh fuel including filling the carb bowl got it running so guess the fuel pump is borked or has an air lock I forget to test the compression again afterwards but it started & revved well enough so im guessing it was a gummed up valve or something. Stocked as that mean i can get it built up with the existing running gear. Wont be going too far before the engine comes out, for a freshen up but at least it can theoertically move itself around till then! Once it has brakes and a working clutch...

  35. got the adaptor plate made. a mate of mine made it for me at his shop because we are so busy at work at the moment that i can't get on a machine to make anything. 20150807_162523 by sheepers, on Flickr only small problem is that some idiot modeled it with the superdupercharger flange upside down so its wrong. it fits the superdupercharger and it fits the manifold but not at the same time. idiot. now i have to ask my mate to make me another one because I'm a moran.

  36. I picked up some wheels from Jessie on here, I just couldn't say no! the tyres were the complete wrong size but I rocked them anyway for a few months, 14x7et8 Watanabes. I really liked the small wheels on the Z, just needed some fat meaty tyres for the 70's racecar vibe. Went out for a photoshoot with a good friend of mine, lucky we finished shooting before the fuel pump decided to stop pumping! The sagging 50 year old rear springs are greatly exaggerated by the small stretched front tyres. The whole car sits very nose up, will need to be sorted. Its a tough balance between wanting to keep the car original, vs wanting to slightly modify and make the car 'mine'

  37. Can't get my car certified for this reason. Spoken to Clint and Mark about it and LVVTA are adamant it's a no go even if completed by certified welders. Been involved with circuit/rally escorts for years and I've never seen a stub fail

  38. Alright, Iv been living in the old girl for a few months now and its awesome! No regrets whatsoever Iv pulled out the table and chairs to make room for a full sized fridge Iv replaced the 12" subwoofers that are mounted under the couch with some xplod's that I had kicking around the shed Does anyone know anything about this amp? Ripped out walls because they were dumb In goes the fridge, I will try to hide this or paint it or something to hide its uglyness. It may even end up on the other side of the bus then I moved onto my parents property. They will be getting their bus legal soon and hitting the road so there will be much more space then, I just hope we can get my bus into their spot! Its all been about the shower and water system lately, Brought a gas califont and mounted that in a locker (still need to make a flue for it). Run water pipes and drainage pipes, Dad chucked up some wood to attach the lining to and we after work today we started cutting up a old stainless shower cubicle to line my shower with. Heres a pic dump

  39. Exited the shed last night, first time since May 2014 (I need to work faster!) First test drive went 'ok' ish, until the compressor clutch locked up and the air line blew out with a big bang Cue slow drive back home on bump stops. So, need to sort that and fit a one-way valve to the compressor line. Had a beer after that episode, and left the car outside. Washed it today, need to clean up garage then get it back in to pick up the issues. Looks cool dumped though. Before wash And after.
