  1. Did some dorting yesterday. Slicks... Wow. After qualifying and have the pressures all wrong which resulted in me going 180 at turn one which was a first for me in the skyline and quite an experience haha. After a quick phone call to Rhyscar and got the pressures sorted these things are magic. I was up a whole gear through the infield over my semis and the car didn't feel unsteady, still think I can go quicker but I just need to catch up to the car. So last round did a 1.29.7 this round my fastest so far is 1.26.3 but I'm hoping they timed my last run as I'm pretty sure I would have broken into the 1.25's but they didn't post it yet. Next round I hope to get consistent 1.25s but I should have close ratio gearbox built next round also so 1.24s maybe? See how we go. Max chur to Rhys for slicks and Nick for rims, single biggest improvement so far! Picture, credit to YOWZER!!!

  2. Starting of fresh with the b1500 as I've ditched the rotary idea and b1600 for the older b1500. Plan is to pretty much just restore it and lower it with a couple of subtle mods. keeping the factory motor and use it as a daily driver. Here it is how i picked it up from a car yard over in motueka I've stripped it all down and removed cab from chassis Sent chassis off to be blasted repaired a couple of thin sections where the blaster went through and now its ready to go back to be powder coated looking forward to getting it back painted and start piecing it back together with all new gear, also going to oil the chassis to try and prevent any rust in the future anyone had experience with that Discussion thread //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44409-maxteds-1969-mazda-b1500/

  4. discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44424-hulses-1973-616rx2-discussion/ ended up swapping this for my 13bt starlet. always wanted an rx2 so this is the second best thing a 616 conversion. looks the part and its certed so not worried! old owner had owned it for 5ish years, brought it from wellington when it was lime green on modgies with a 12a. since then it has been sprayed matt black (primer) and had done a 13b turbo conversion on it. then motor blew up on dyno so I ended up with it rolling body.. plans are: 13bpp panel/paint - gloss black black racepros tidy black factory interior 14' mods with 195/45s suspension/brake upgrade diff/gearbox upgrade etc.. heres a couple pics when previous owner had it now comes the start of the build.. got it home, sold the rims, seats and have been slowly getting been getting little pieces together for it. stripped interior etc now started working slowly few pics will update within next few days.. pics give rough idea on whats been done in last 2 weeks

  9. so my tires arrived on thursday and i went and got them fitted today, 165/50R14's, they look tiny!!! pretty much the exact look i wanted, just going to have to put sorting out my exhaust a lot higher on the list because its pretty much on the ground now. tires on wheels and fitted, worst pics ever, i know. need some sunlight which is going to have to wait until tomorrow. oh, i also bought an 18RG. it was meant to have twin carbs, but the carbs ended up being owned by the brother of the engine owner, and he ended up deciding he didn't want to sell. its got brand new extractors though which is a big plus, and i'm doing some investigation into aftermarket quads to suit the 18rg, and a computer/fuel system to run it. pics of motor can wait until tomorrow too, its a fresh rebuild but was built years back and has been sitting around since then.

  11. ok, been a few days, disconected all the wiring and what not then removed the desk from the cab and of all its wiring, today all the pipe work was removed, she is now an empty shell, ready for some one to win the tender to repair the fibreglass front, (best tender so far is £25k ) have prepped most of the new cab ready for the desk, most of the airlines are in, but need to lift the cab in the air to cut out 2 x 200mm holes on the underside for the air con stuff (as if they need air-con in scotland) had to mod the floor and shit, but she is coming along, still hoping to get the desk back in by friday, but we'll see, kind of waiting on other shit to happen first, no one seems to be in a hurry, i need some earth points welded to the new floor, but the fuckers don't even have some one who can weld ali on site, so it has to be sent out to an engineering firm !!! ffs, useless no floor=no desk= no work to do but i drew a picture of a penis behind the light switch for future generations to find so yeah, might grafitti a random kiwi somewhere as well

  12. Hey, After finding out that its actually designed to be adjustable, i pulled out my excessively grabby cusco 2 way lsd. Rearranged the clutch plates to the 60% setting and removed 1 third of the springs which set the preload. The part thats caught me out though! The lsd can be two way or one way, dependin on which cam profile you put the end of the cross gear thing in. I want to set it to one way, but ive realised it can be set the wrong way around... so only giving lsd action under decel haha. Does anyone know if the flat face of the cam profile needs to be pointing towards, or away, from the direction of rotation for accelleration? Cant post a pic to explain at the moment, pc is fubar.

  17. So got a bit done today, didnt get to paint my door though as the weather wouldnt play ball. Got the NB Hubs in and put the MKIIIs on one side for fun. Also got the coilovers with new bushes in, what a difference the new bushes made! NB Hub NA Hub Hard to see in photos but left is NA and is wider but I think it may have reduced camber but Ill check that on the alignment machine. And If I had more MKIIIs

  18. I havn't updated much lately, but i have been chipping away on the mk1. So i thought it was about time i loaded a few pic's up. I should have taken more along the way,Man Imageshack sucks now, can't load decent size pic's Here's a pic of the cage coming together Motor siting in. Got the suspension in. I have used silvia front coilovers, silvia bottom arms, adjustable silvia radius arms. I have just welded a rosejoint into the factory bottom arms to make them adjustable I have used the escort steering rack that i had from previous set that i was going to use. We have decided to go left hand drive so have mounted the rack upside down and it all seem to be sweet. As it sit's a the moment, i am saving for a Powerglide, Looks like the best way to get a decent one is to buy one from the states.

  20. gearbox rebuilt managed to rebuild the whole thing without a press. new bearings, syncro's, seals etc. above is my "special service tool" for getting 5th gear off the output shaft. Used some cheese chinese pullers and the one below, to get the rest apart. used to pull some of the gears/bearings back onto the shafts also, as below. seems to work on the bench. this is the "good condition w58" i brought off that shit kicker. still nothing too exciting happening so heres a skid. still looking for some blacktop throttles and a 2wd hilux driveshaft..

Still have to re-install the chrome and mudflaps. Will get new pics once the weather turns nice again. Mitch Edit Edit. fuck these pics got killed when put into Flickr, sorry boes.

  23. so i randomly came across a set of MS51 Crown coupe wheels, apparently they're the same as MS75 ones, but either way they're pretty hard to come by. i found them at a mag shop that was closing down, he had no idea what they were, scored them for $50 polished all the rust off and decided to try something different colour wise went to Canada somewhere around here for 6 months so everything went on hold and the Crown went into storage, i ended up with these wheels with a shit set of tires on my MS55, which ended up selling while i was overseas. sold them without the wheels, but they came back with a few scratches which is annoying. i bought some tires for them, but because i went for low profile skinny 14's i had to wait for them to be brought into the state, so i did a quick fuckaround job to fit a mates set of 16x8 watanabes, had to throw some bolt on 15mm spacers on the front to get them over the upper ball joint, then cut all the studs to suit the spacers, plus they're nissan thread which left me a bit lost for wheel nuts late saturday while i was finishing up, with the car meet i wanted to get it to on sunday morning. ended up just using the skinny nuts that came with the adapters. mistake, two of the fucking things are jammed on, and rounded off. pics of it on wats, at car meet i took it along to. it was Custom Cars n Coffee, a monthly meet in Perth. there were about 1000 cars there this month. very cool meet, nothing like it in NZ. every sort/style of car, from gemini's to corona's to lambo's, corvettes, aussie and yank muscle, civic's, vw's, everything!!! there was even another crown.

  24. Went to start the thing yesterday and it wouldn't go. Has been sitting outside under a tarp recently, but usually fires up fine. No noise from fuel pump so something wrong there, although pump relay is working. Hope it's wiring but likely to be a dead pump. In-tank of course (using the original wagon tank) so some dismantling required to get it out. Pffft. At least it's easy to work on - no bodywork FTW.

  26. badass! choice to see you're still having fun mucking round with stuff! if you're after a flash harry flywheel i might know a guy with a surplus trd lightweight chromoly one from an altezza (he replaced it when he did a clutch and thought he had a dual mass, so he bought a single mass exedy heavy duty kit and used the flywheel that came with that and instantly regretted it. reckons the trd one makes them heaps peppier). I shal enquire edit: he wants $120, is in palmy and is going to make sure he definitely still has it and will weigh it for ya. will keep you posted.

  27. Had a chat with Techno Toy Tuning last week. Ended up with these beautiful stainless spacers for the Corolla's 4-link rod ends. The idea was to try and get rid of some of the irritating rattles coming from my current aluminium spacers. Got them installed, back down on the ground and went for a drive. But she now had an epic squeak coming from somewhere underneath. ARRGH Turns out I had done them up to tight. Loosened them of, and it seems to be great now. In other news My Overalls have arrived. Ready for if i make it to a track day one day! Up next; Sound deadening? Lightweight single piece flywheel?? Locker???

  28. Magic number plate! So I've just about finished my rotisserie for the vw's shell, it's been a bigger job than I thought it would, but it's going to make working on the sills much easier. I started with these basic plan First job was sorting out the rust in the old stand, it had been sitting outside in the grass for age's, the wheels were rusted tight and one pretty much just fell off. feel free to stick this is the fab fuck up thread! lol. I haven't done alot of welding on thick metal like this, took a while to get the setting right. one down. I then had to add 200mm of 60x60 to the red stand, so they would both be the same height. better? I then welded up the front mount to the shell goe's here and the rear one. another fab fuck up. I left the brace and welded up the rest of the frame, I wasn't sure how high the shell would sit once I found a good centre of gravity. what I did find is with the rear mount being so long it flexed, heaps! it would like bounce. scary shit. so I made these braces to the rear bumper mounts. much better. I cut the brace of the rear stand and repositioned it so the frame clears it and it now rolls right on it's side. I'm going to add a couple more braces to the frames and once I'm happy with how it rolls over I'll weld the frame to the stands plate, just in case.

  33. So i haven't really done much on this lately, I got pulled over a while back and ticketed for 'operating a vechile not up to warrantable standards' In other words my rear tyres stuck out the guards excessively. So i got ticketed and told to fix it. So pretty much its been sitting in the garage since the start of april whilst i decided what to do. I had a set of 14x7 and 14x8 hotwires that Id bought for the kingswood and some good 195/70r14s on some crappy steel wheels so i gave the hotwires a quick clean and got tyres mounted and threw them on for the mean time. Since then ive also had to pull the interior out as my carpets were soaked from all the rain we have been having lately to find a bit of rust in the drivers and passengers footwells which is average and needs fixing. And well now those good tyres arent all that good anymore.... Starfire powered tyre slaying! http://oldschool.co....ms-84-vk-mayte/

  34. Productive night tonight. Engine Backplate Cut a piece out of the engine backplate so it slots in nicely with the starter motor adapter plate. Clutch and Flywheel Flywheel and clutch torqued and loctite'd. All very straight forward mating it up and aligning the clutch. Engine and Box Engine and box bolted together ready to go in. Engine In Jacked the car right up and just slid the whole drive train under the car, also pretty straight forward. Just need to sort out my gearbox crossmember and straighten up the engine now. Pretty sure all the paint will fall off as soon as it started but ah well. Cheers Matt
