Hello to all my name is Craig
My first dub was a 1962 a Blue Beetle quite a few years ago now, some how it hooked me on Dubs. I sold it for $400 dollars and regret that now.
We have a 1964 Splitty that I brought 9 years ago
Once I had the van home I drive it for literally 15 minutes then it stoped! We towed it up the driveway, then it was taken apart.
I had the van sodium blasted ready to restore at this stage.
A fellow I worked with in Timaru an ex panel beater was going to restore it for me whilst on my OE in the UK, but he pulled out on me . Luckily my brother ended up recovering my van and took it to his place and put it under cover for the next 7 years where a few chickens found it great to perch on!
This was a bit of a set back you might say but worked in my favour in In the long run.
While on my OE I went to the UK Van fest in Malvern (Kombi Heaven) and found all the parts I would ever need, I realised this project was do able.
7 years later after the big OE and settling in Christchurch my brother Gavin rocked up with my van from Timaru, this is when the true labour of love started.
The van has had most of the standard rust repairs.
This has truly been a leaning curve and often I asked myself what the hell am I doing.
Some how managing to drag myself back out to the shed and just getting on with it.
Since then the van has had a fully reconditioned motor, gear box and front end thanks to Richard Wormald from Southern Lakes Transmissions.
Richard has done an amazing job, I am very impressed and he has helped guide me with my project, I highly recommend him.
I look forward to meeting and talking to you all about your projects.
I also run a site for Vws in all the madness have a look if you like
