  2. Finished off the underlay and test fitted before gluing down, fitted really well so will get some adhesive spray and finish it off then work on some vinyl flooring. Got the radiator back in along with heater and radiator hoses, just waiting on a thermostat housing inlet which it looks like brdflu can sorce me one, then take her for a wof!

  5. Its all back together now, the girlfriend and I managed to put it in easy as, didnt take long at all. all brakes and clutch bleed. radiator filled and a fresh battery thrown in. Took a bit to get started but now she starts up mint first time everytime, just cold start idle seems to be a little iffy. Also had to put that gay pod filter on because misplaced the other filter and it runs a bit shitter with no filter. Other than that havent taken it for a drive yet but been up and down the drive a bit. Had trouble getting into second gear but that seems to be a linkage needing a little adjustment because if you pull a bit further back than where you want to go and then let it recenter you can select it but going straight from first to second its a bit of a maybe if its going to line up. Anyway tidied up all the sills which only had a bit of light surface face with is pretty sweet now I just have to weld a few patches of rust then take it for a wof. Heres some pick. Lovely air filter setup Put the carbs in to see how they fit. Looks like need to redesign heater box and put battery somewhere else.

  6. Instead of buying things like engines, diffs, things i actually need, I bought these instead. 15x8 -16 and 15x8.5 -23. They are 5x120 so will need to run adaptors, which will hopefully get them to sit where i want them to. Have decided to go NA 1j, then after its running/certed ill chuck some ITBs on.

  7. Picked this up today. Got it for a song, pretty stoked. Feels awesome to ride again, especially with my feet up compared to sport style bikes in my past. Its a roadster XLS which is basically a sportster with a bigger tank, this bike seems to have been fitted with a Dyna tank and rear guard though which the seat doesn't really fit. Super chromed out including swingarm etc. Its an old soldier but it's had a fair bit of money spent on it. New tyres, wheel bearings, brakes and clutch. Even has a WOF. Biggest let down is probably the rusty front wheel, other than that she's pretty tidy all around. Performance wise it's nothing flash but it starts easy and gets along quick enough. Gonna do maintenance work and maybe lower the rear at this point. Will probably paint it black as I've always owned black bikes. But really I just wanna ride the thing. Here it is in my 3 bedroom garage Chur,

  8. Thought i better start a project thread for my latest toy... Its a 1980 Series 1 RX7 SA22C Brought it off one of my mates who has owned for 6+ years, he had lost interest in the car scene Has barely seen the road in the 6 years that he has owned it..so i plan to changed that Brought the car on Saturday with a non working clutch, luckily we live right next door to each other so just pushed it over.. Washed of the thick layer of dust and gave it a vacuum to see what i was working, over all its in pretty good condition, few little pieces missing but the important parts are there... Found a little bit of rust in the doors and some surface rust in other places but nothing to major... Ended up fixing the clutch on the Sunday, charged the battery and went for a spin last night..reminds me of a hopped up 2 stroke dirt bike (Cars running a 12a J-port) Need to do a few things for a WOF Bleed Brakes Fix some rust Buy some bulbs Hope for the best Discussion //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/44345-d1rty6s-1980-rx7-rice-rocket/

  15. Check banjo bolts and fittings at the in pipe to the filter and at the pump. We get a lot of trucks that clog up with crap there from the bottom of the tank. Bug is caused by water in the fuel tank. Condensation in the fuel tank is one culprit. Near empty tanks overnight in the cold get condensation

  20. hmmm, my experience, internal regulated alts have a 2 pin, one for 12V ignition and other for dash light its in a T format connector you can actually see it on the back there in the picture then there is the battery wire which goes to the threaded stud with a nut on it, with the red plastic housing shame its polished, as there should be the mitsubishi part number on them, sometimes it engraved other times its a sticker if you could have found that, then with some research you could have found what cars/models it would be on there is usually 2 part numbers if mazda alt - mazda part number and the mitsubishi part number - which can easily tell you what it is off etc any part numers below the mitsubishi symbol on the round part on back of alternator ? check to see what numbers you can see even part of a part numbers etc if no numbers on it, only thing to do would be get against something until it looks the same sorry with out part numbers i cant be any more help you could try going to an auto electrical place that does alternators and starters etc, they maybe able to help you get the same, or something different that would do

  25. 2 nights of careful painfully slow welding and grinding and i have a warpfree panel in place. Welded it on the inside as its a flat surface compared to the channel on the outside, this made for easier grinding. Hit it with the flap disk, quite stoked with the result. Patience paid off. Will give it a coat of 2k primer and a skim of nuetech tomorrow welded from the inside Outside

  26. left this outside in the rain over night. jumped in it the next day and my feet got wet. I found that there was water pooled in the ribs in the floor pans. and the rear compartment was quite wet too. Luckily it doesnt have carpet in it so I sponged that out. and went hunting for the cause of the leak. Picture so I remember what it looked like. I started removing parts of the dash to get a better look at the point of the leak, and it appears that the little bit of rust that I saw when i was looking at the van under the dash is leaking. So I pulled the rest of the dash out for access for repairs. As you can see Its pretty much all there and is relatively tidy, but still needs a bit of tlc as its all covered in a layer of dust. I dont think its been apart since 1979 due to the amount of dust and general yuckness behind all this. the top of the glove box for example was about a centimeter thick. Ive got a couple of spare bits stashed away that I was saving for the ute, but the vans priority right now as im thinking about flicking the ute to get some funds. (Mexican blanket is on seat because seat is split and worn out) Also, whats the point of a panel van with out showing off the 'entertainment' area It doesnt look very entertaining though does it? Dont worry, that will be changed. All the yuck carpet that is glued to the walls and roof will be removed. Same with the yuck headlining. Too much builders van SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES

  27. so just bought some trumpets from SQ Engineering in oz,a specialist in 4age gear.he also turns up trumpets,he custom made a set of 6 for me 100mm long with a bellmouth size of 87mm,they have shaved edges to make them fit like these -> his trumpets work out cheaper than trademe, even with the extra machining and shipping.heres a link to his site----> http://s-86.com/velocity_stacks.php will post pics when they turn up

  28. Bit fucked. Not fucked Then failed to bring home brake fluid so can't quite finish it. Got really quiet at work this afternoon so tidied up showroom and found these dandy spanners that do metric, imperial and star. Purchased! Wish I knew they existed 10 years ago when I started pissing around with cars..currently use budget bunnings spanners and freebies I've acquired so looking forward to trying them out and moving the old ones into the in-car toolkit.

  29. so replaced all front brake cylinders and adjusted + bled them. The mrs (Annika) found a good rug for the seats, suits it really well Removed and flushed water lines and radiator, replaced hoses as they were rock solid and cracking. The radiator was full of lime stone and crap, stained all the concrete at work, oops. all good now and got all the bits for engine service. need to find a thermostat housing or make one as the one on there is stuffed. oh also cut some under lay up and got Annika to sew it on the weekend.

  30. Time to dig this thread up from the dead, nothings been happening.. still sorting the wheels etc. Found a bit of motivation today.. cut out the spare tyre well to make way for the drop tank and make it easier to fabricate the new rear towers. Got it cut out.. IMG_1169 by postlematt, on Flickr but wouldnt it wouldnt drop. IMG_1175 by postlematt, on Flickr because of these suckers, this was welded to the front, the panhard rod mount bracing IMG_1172 by postlematt, on Flickr and this little bastard mount at the back behind the rear numberplate valance.. IMG_1180 by postlematt, on Flickr Couldnt get a grinder in there IMG_1181 by postlematt, on Flickr Finally got it out IMG_1183 by postlematt, on Flickr Oh harro hilux diff.. i also found a 4.1 ratio diff head.. finally.. IMG_1196 by postlematt, on Flickr Started working out the clearnces for the rear shocks. between the calipers, diff mounting brackets and chassis rails theres farrrk all room.. 32. Here is my highly efficient liquid fossil to carbon converter. 06 Wrangler Sport with a 6" long arm lift, 35"s and a 1" body lift, Detroit locker in the rear and a OX locker in the front, 4.11 gears and Rubicon "Rock Crawling" ratio transfer case. Doesn't have much speed/power but plenty of torque, there isn't much that I haven't made it through. But now that the kiddies are getting older I will probably look at moving it on after winter and getting something LWB so I can start sharing the fun with them.

  33. Then I found the brakes were shit so decided to do that before warrant. New disc, hoses, pistons, bendix pads, caliper kits, hard lines and fittings. Also had to cut the shocks out to get the springs out to cut a bit off as it was really high. Still locking up wildly when applying minimal brake pressure. Fuuuuuck! After much pissing around and bleeding and shit, decided to do the brake master cylinder. Broke the remaining hard lines so replaced them too. Same shit. But isolated the lockup to the right rear. Thought it might be because it was a diesel so wasn't getting vaccum for the booster? Turns out it has a vaccum pump so that wasn't it.. I know next to nothing about diesels and since this was a conversion didn't know what was supposed to be there and what wasn't. So it was to pull the drum apart. Couldn't get it apart because it was wildly grooved. Stole a puller from work and popped it off. Oh! Replaced the cylinder and bled it up again. Found that the spring clip on the front had failed and the hose had been turning and chewed off the flare on the line so dumped half a litre of fluid on the drive. Sourced a flaring tool and hit that, bled it up again. BRAKES! In between doing this I had a good sunny day so decided to scrape the old underseal outta the boot and hammerite it. Poked holes all through the floor aye. Zinc'd it in and out, hammerite on it too. My huge sub box fits in the area under the boot floor!! I also attached the boot garnish that's broken in 3 but it looks boss as even though the tailgate is rough as fuck but don't care. Replaced a bonnet hinge that wouldn't sit down and managed to get it sitting better but need aligned better. This is how it looks at the moment, ready to go for a wof check. I'll adjust the height later on. Lots left to do but i need it as a daily ASAP It's taken 2 months to get to this point working outside in a carport with a headlamp on between 6-9pm and Saturday after work and all Sunday!
