locost_bryan
The Colin Chapman mantra that a Lotus should only be strong enough to last until the end of the race, probably shouldn't apply to anything else. Lighten everything until it breaks, then make the replacement a little bit stronger, perhaps not the best design ethos. 1
tortron
Italian bicycles are the same tiny little non functional brakes, because why would you want to slow down in a race

We have a joke in the office that 1 + 1 = 4 but we call it 10 to give us a decent margin of safety. Magnesium extrusion container I designed has a safety factor of less than 2. Any more and it would have been unsafe to operate due to being too heavy. Had to use some pretty good tricks of engineering design to actually make it possible About 900 MPa on the liner wall

Bit of a coke and tin foil clean to remove the worst of the grot. Dismantled LED fishtank lamp. Boom! Plus, sheep skull, found the other weekend tiki touring around the Coromandel. Dismantled bicycle tail lamp (stupid mounts broke, so sitting around). Bit of tape and a cork. Boom/Hail Santa etc

I'm an aircraft mechanic so still deal in an industry where magnetos are considered state of the art! Unfortunately the sewing machine mag tester struggled to turn over impulse couplings so it was eventually superceded by a more powerful and slightly less silly polisher-based unit (that spins the wrong way for most mags hence the drive tapped off the back)
Lord Gruntfuttock
Yeah years ago there was an old bloke who was the go-to guy for old pre-war BSAs, vintage cars etc. He was renowned as a magneto expert and was flown to India to sort out Maharaja's old Rolls Royces etc. He'll be long gone now prob... Popular Post Muncie
Built this for an old workmate who absolutely is the epitome of "everything is a hammer" so much so all torque wrenches got referred to as torque hammers on site. It still functions and will dampen shock if you adjust it down , pretty cool kind of dont want to give it to him. 25 2
Muncie
Before anyone freaks out yes its a expensive norbar wrench but its been on production line for a few years and would no longer hold a calibration this was the perfect retirement for it.
Popular Post Valiant
My son has wanted a cubby house / tiny house for ages. According to him it needed a Mezzanine, to look old fashioned, and be good for hiding out in. This is as close to the design brief as I could manage.
