mjrstar
Used some Sika seam seal 227 on the mazda seemed to be legit.
Nominal
Visited an actual car painter and got some 3M 50740 for the Oxford. Bloke said it's all they use in their shop. Seems to work well for me, messy, but I'm an amateur.
flyingbrick
I use this stuff, it's pretty tenacious! http://www.rvshop.co.nz/catalog/rv-accessories/hardware/general-hardware/bostik-simson-isr-70-03-elastic-adhesive
RUNAMUCK
Vice question. which end of a bench should I mount my vise? Bench is about 2.7×800. Im going to make a move on getting the bench properly built this weekend. I've had it just sitting on the lefthand side. But I was thinking that being right handed I should put it on the right hand side so I can still work from the "right side" of the vise if I'm holding long things. any of you workshop gurus got any suggestions? tortron
i have mine on the LH corner, on a bit of an angle, so I can maximise length and not hit the wall/tool box although mines not even bolted down I just use some wood working sash clamps to hold it and my grinder so I can move them around
flyingbrick
Just put it anywhere. It's going to not suit some jobs regardless
tortron
multiple vices is the way
igor
Mine's in the middle of the bench but the bench only extends half way along the wall. Grandfather mounted his in the middle of a bench that extended all the way along a short wall of his garage and made a removable hatch so that if he needed to work on long stuff it could just hang out the hole in the wall. My pipe vice is semi outside for ease of use with long pipes.
kicker
Mine is on the right-hand end of my bench which is also next to a roller door, good for sending grinder sparks onto car windscreens
Steelies
^ ideal! i roll centre bench and drill more holes as needed. best thing has been using bolts that are easy to pull out, for swinging the vice in over the bench for added garage squeeze-room
SOHC
how much would a tube of three bond 1215 cost trade price?
RUNAMUCK
After bolting the boards to my bench tonight, I've decided I'm going to go dead center too. That places it directly over top of an upright. So less flex when I'm really leaning on it hard.
tortron
i have the firewall forward of a loom that i want to replace the hacked up firewall forward loom in my truck with theres maybe 20 or so individual wires, is there a better way to join them together than solder, heatshrink, and then wrap the lot together? something like this https://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/prf-40130/overview/ possibly? kyteler
I was going to suggest one of those but you already suggested it. Why you ask for when you know already bruddah?
tortron
I'm more after a suggestion of which one to get, at a not painful price, doesn't need to be marine spec
SOHC
Do they sell a bell housing adapter for a Chevrolet v8 into a to a Toyota FJ40?
RUNAMUCK
The proper way is the way you don't want to do it. But the secret of the pros is to twist and tape, err, I mean stagger the joins so you don't end up with a big fat spot in the loom.
M.H.
mk3 golfs use connectors like that, could get some from pick a part
h4nd
Good crimping should be better in an auto than soldering ( @governorsam ?). Solder is good for electrical, but goes brittle and breaks when there's vibration. Double ended crimps and a good tool?
