  1. right have had some good progress latley, which was needed as its racing tomorrow. Got stuck in with the vinyl, and good old simon at quickstickers.co.nz made some lush custom decals. had the car on the dyno last night just quickly to make sure its safe. We have run 28mm chokes which is robbing a fair bit of top end but making it really driveable, i will run with these till i get the handling of the car then will go to 30s and hopefully a bigger cam is this one is mild as. it was wayyyy to super rich to start and now a bit rich but at a safe level. Token issues with trumpet clearances, cannot fit the socks at all, when they are on it runs super rich on the middle two cylinders so trying to solve that issue. Yeti at keith stewart dyno ( a couple of quick runs with the carbs still terribly unbalanced and it made 65hp at the wheels, which im happy with for now. He had a newly rebuilt ministock (so standard) 3k in the same day and that made 33hp at the wheels. With the 4.4:1 diff in it now it is peppy as fuck and should go pretty good this weekend hopefully. Only the driver will let it down. Pics cos of coolness dyno- and some glamour shots by sparkle, excuse the primer overspray on the tyres haha

  4. Oh yeh, this thing is the tits. Loaded it to the rafters (and beyond) and went for a hoon up, in and around your mums face/the coromandel. Didnt liek sitting int he rain for a week without moving (moisture in the dizzy cap), and some of my didgy wiring came back to haunt me. other than that no dramas at all.

  6. oh hi, follow up on this. Got a hold of Howat, except he was rather busy so was going to be a week before he could look at it. So I phoned up Wellington Automotive Gearbox Specialists (used to be Miles Udy) and the joker Dave who runs it said to take him for a spin. So I did that and he said it sounded more like an axle bearing rather than diff related. He did mention that a diff rebuild with new bearings would be $800.. So I whipped out the axles with the help of Ricks beefy slide hammer (i tried fucking everything and nothing worked, two smacks each with that and they were out!) and dropped them off to my mechanic who cut off the old bearings and pressed on the new. And now it is super sweet!! Thing to note tho, when I checked the bearings the drivers side was grumbly, however I always thought the noise was from the left hand side.

  7. So an offer has been extended from the old GC Graeme at my work who has a collection of vintage machinery tractors trucks stationary engines and general cool old stuff to come look round for a few hours if we are keen for a cruise to Tauranga. Highlights include a 70s mack v8 with a 5 inch straight pipe and a commer TS3 2 stroke supercharged engine both on stands which he will fire up for us.

  8. Cool, welding done hopefully no problems. Funny thing is that before welding I had an auto electrician looking at it because its not giving consistant spark, and he suspects the ECU. so its probably stuffed anyways hahaha. Its going to look a bit dodge though when I post up a "WTB ecu" thread directly after the "how to not blow up ECU when welding?" thread.

  9. I asked Gulf to sponsor me stickers for the Leadfoot Vintage racing festival. They said yes!!! So I got onto making a stripe and some numbers. Used string to make sure the stripe is straight. First time dealing with large decals. Was fun! Had to do the centre caps too Result It got a fair few comments. I love the look for now. Discussion: http://oldschool.co....00s-discussion/

  11. Do you want to build a snowman race car? Also a while back I also had an exhaust leak where the manifold met the exhaust, leaky seal. It was a bitch to get off and even more off a bitch to get back on, with me using a seal that doesn't actually belong on the car.

  13. Please make expressions of interest for a casual farm based sausage fest some time in the next few months. Date to be confirmed. Could be as soon as Feb, where the days are long and hot, or some other time. Come to the sunny Eastern Bay of Plenty, 15 mins out of lovely Whakatane. Flat clean grass if you like to camp, a few beds and floor space if you prefer indoors, a shipping container if you're Manu. So yeah, cook sausages, walk around, look at wildlife I suppose, touch a tractor or two. Let us know you're thoughts and ideas for this event. EDIT: AIMING FOR EASTER WEEKEND. Stay as little or as long as you like. 25-28th March.

  16. So the 4K is all reassembled thanks to Hartley's! Not 100% sure on the specs yet, but I believe it is bored out to 1400cc, new pistons, bigger cam, ported, skimmed head, valve springs, lightened flywheel, electronic distributor. Weber carby has been rebuilt, have also acquired a Primera radiator, MSD coil, new muffler and Ramflo filter. Basically just waiting for the Rush automotive headers to be made then it can go in! So excited for some power!! Need to tidy up that yuck fuel pump and dizzy vacuum advance(?) somehow.

  17. Nothing too exciting, I have started cleaning up the casings with needle files and sand paper, not going to take much more out but it's looking a bit better to me! Before: After rough shaping, still a few little bits to shape up and a bit of sanding to go: Stripped the gearbox, think one or 2 of the bearings could do with replacement, so I'll most likely just change the lot. Speaking of bearings, VG has hooked me up with a great deal on the crank bearings, seals and a nice 1/4" torque wrench to put the engine back together with, think I'll need to shout him a couple 3L juices in return Pulled the flywheel and stator off the UZ50 Let's 4 engine I've got here, the 8 pole stator has the same 2 wires as my stock 7 pole and fits right in my case, it's only one more pole but it all counts right? And I managed to get the small case half that clean yesterday it stood out like anything compared to the large case, so much to the Mrs's dismay I've got it soaking in a tub of hot water and cleaners in our washhouse haha Have gotten a lot deeper into this project than ever intended!! Edit: It's now 11pm and I have spent most of my Friday night scrubbing my engine with a toothbrush... Dawned on me after a while that it was clean and that Suzuki had painted/coated the engine in an alloy colour when it was made, the dirty spots I was trying to scrub off are clean raw alloy that looks dirty in comparison to the coating lol I see some high temp paint in this engines future!

  25. There was some wear there but fortunately I had a number of spare, similarly sized spring leafs so I cut some down to replace the worst worn. Some etch primer and they were ready for assembly. Out with the vice and G clamps again…….. A bit of heat in the right place…….. And another job is ticked off the list…..

  26. Another Wednesday boys night has seen more progress an a slight deviation from the original plan First up got these installed This is where the deviation came into play, what you can't see is that these pedals are a hydraulic set, the cable pedal box I had been planning on using, for one reason or another just would not go in the car. So the decision was made to bite the bullet, and go with a concentric slave setup. With the engine out and the pedal box in process, the VS plastic booster and VT master cylinder was fitted, just need to get a set of single to double flare adapters from Aussie now, no pics but they would be boring any way With that done, we waterblasted the engine bay, which meant it was time for this: Pretty stoked, need to get the car up now so I can put the gearbox in and work out the measurements for the slave setup. Am actually happy that my hand was forced as I had planned to do this eventually. It will come at the cost that I'll probably end up doing the wiring myself but at least when it's done I can take pride that I did everything myself at least!! Any way, cheers for reading

  27. I've been doing a few bits and pieces that really don't add up to much but its all got to be done. so door latches are in and working, I'm missing a passengers door handle but its Mike to the rescue again there. what else? rear quarter window installed (only one because I'm missing a guide) and also i got the hood lining recovered and i picked that up yesterday so thats ready to go in. today i made the trim bits for the inside of the A pillar and glued them in, then i put the windscreen in. that was BY FAR the most difficult windscreen I've ever had to install, don't know why it was just a cunt. my fingers are destroyed but its in. now i can install the head lining (it sits on a secondary lip on the front windscreen rubber) and put the rear glass in too. hopefully thats not such a cunt to install…. 2016-02-10_06-26-10 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_06-26-41 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_06-26-55 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_06-26-27 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_06-27-10 by sheepers, on Flickr 2016-02-10_08-41-45 by sheepers, on Flickr

  28. So long time fuck all happening. Life/other car took all my money so not a lot has been happening to this. Buuuttttt It now moves. Haven't moved it far as it has no brakes but it does. Got my driveshaft lengthened and chucked it all in. There is a hell of a noise coming from the engine which i am praying is only lifters, I think the noise was amplified a bit by being inside the garage so will pull it out tomorrow and whip the cam covers off to have a look. Umm what else. Oh got another dash as my one wasn't coming up with the speedo, revs, fuel or temp as it is digital. I know the dash i got is good cause i saw it working but its still doing the same thing, so need to check some simple shit to see if its a fuse or earth, if not its off to a auto sparky. Painted the rear strips, only thing is they are really warped so they stick out but isn't a lot i can do about that, and all the other ones ive seen are rusted away so they will do for now. Am selling my Celica so will be using the BCs out of that in this, and have test fitted a 9j with tire on to see how much work i need to do to fit them, quite pleased to say not a lot. Am supposed to be taking this to Nats so am pushing it a bit haha Talk shit about my shit : //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/50314-beachlanders-mz12-discussion/

  30. So, I hacked the guards up as I wasn't happy with the fit.. Used my original TF left front guard and that is fitting really quite nicely indeed now. Chevette guard on the drivers side, also the side that bore the brunt of the impact took me awhile longer however.. Properly bolted on this time, rather than just sitting on like last time. Bolted the halfs in place then welded slowly.. Discussion: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=15434

  32. So I has been very busy putting this thing back together over the last couple of weeks. She's getting very close now After a trip down south over this Wellington anniversary weended to see the parentals in law I picked up the English that the father in law had converted to KP spec for me, can probably say that this is the only piece of Quaife goodies I am going to own in a long time All fitted in like a dream and the wheels clear perfectly, it's only 15mm wider than the starlet diff. Driveshaft needs to have 47mm trimmed off it though so that's getting done at garmac engineering in Wanganui this week. I also ordered some cheap China spec vinyl wrap to have a crack at making the decals esqe of an inverse on Paul Adams old Toyota NZ car back in the 80s. Man this stuff is a bitch to put on, watch this space
