  1. Couple more photos My custom parcel tray cover, made by Flat Out Engineering in Balclutha - definitely a talking point of the car! Still possibly one of the hardest parts to find with this build was the RH fuel tank. When I bought the car it already had the hole, but the tank had been lost years ago. I had been getting a LH one converted but was proving to be more than what it was worth to do. The hunt was on to find either a genuine or repro one for a reasonable price, luckily Minibitz had this second hand original one that needs a minor repair done to it which I got for an absolute score. My motor that is in the car now has an interesting back story. The engine has been a bit of an urban legend in Dunedin, purely down to the fact that it was a 180bhp fuel injected turbo 1275. It was raced out at Beachlands Speedway where it dominated the races it was entered into. There is a video on Youtube of it on the dyno "Ewoks Turbo Mini" Coincidentally the motor was built and part owned by the guy who was to be building my motor anyway, so when it became available at a very good price I jumped at the chance to own it. He has told me I should expect to get around 150bhp with the SC12 on it. The photo is from the night I picked it up. Since putting the SC12 gear on, I've run into issues with bonnet clearance. The blower came off a mate's Mini, which was an 1100. The 1275 is slightly taller in the block than the 1100, hence why i would clear. The solution - made up a set of alloy bonnet lift brackets which are adjustable. Haven't metal finished them yet but they work perfectly

  3. Happy new year Wellington cobbers and cobbesses. Can't make this one as Steph and I will be away on a ten day van trip at that time. That trip was expertly planned so I'm back in time for Wagnats! Yeah, Wagnats!

  4. Removing the brakes: The brakes looked pretty neat, but I had to press the cylinders out with a grease gun. Totally jammed. In the meantime I am testing derusting objects with electrolysis. Derusting objects with electrolysis works above expectations must I say

Throttle bodys have had all the extra bits cut off and polished up hard out. Super stoked they look so good in person, will look good on the motor!! 6. A week ago I got the keys handed over from Colin, the dad of the previous owner of this Simca. Me and my son have checked the Simca, and we found out that some parts underneath are pretty rotted. On one side the sill is a large black hole with a view to the inside of the car (interesting though) Our goal at the moment is to get it back on the road. The second goal is doing the cosmetic upgrade. It looks like the car has been resprayed somewhere in the seventies. The original color is maroon. I haven't decided if I revert it back yet. Front side: The bumbers have been sprayed, but underneath the paint they are fairly rotten. The doors need a bit of welding The rear bumpers are rotten too. Under the bonnet: A engine with a name:

  9. LEGALITY! Today I booked the z in for a vin at Nostalgia Motors in Hamilton expecting to come back and find two or three non-compliances (not that I could find any, but they can be super picky) I got a call at half past three saying she's all good to go and she "flew through" the vin! I buzzed her over to VINZ to get rego and plates confirmed and we're legit. $140 odd for a year's rego sounds alright to me. Looking at carjam, the last time she had rego was August 1990! Obligatory sticker photo: That's 8 months from buy to fly. Only two months over schedule but the critical deadline was the Kumeu show so no problemo. Special thanks to OS'ers Cressy (Nick), Evan (Evan), 64valiant (Greg) and Miniman76 (Hayden) for their input. Pumped!

  10. Hey guys, Used to have a build thread for this car, seems to have been lost so I've started a new one up. Bought this car back in 2011 as a bare shell, which at the time was caged and set up for a Weber airbox. I'll get around at some stage to go through my old photos of the build, but at the moment here are a few up to date ones of the car. Hoping to have it complete mid this year. [/url] The DEAL$$$$$$: FREE Drink with Burger and Chips Purchase (From the COKE range , excluding mini burgers) FIRST MEET??If you are new to these meets here are a few points that may help,Most people usually show up between 730 and 8 ish,We roll down to get burgers sometime around 8 / 8:15 ish. Or whenever you feel like really. We sit around either at burgerfuel or back up top and continue the yarns.Remember its always a casual affair , a place to yarn to mates and make new ones.An oldschool car is not required at all, of course if youve got one on the road then bring it and show it off!! Doesnt need to be flash or special.SOME OF THESE ARE NEW, MOST OF THESE ARE COMMON SENSE. WE WILL PROVIDE A FEW GENTLE REMINDERS WITH THE NEW RULES BUT REPEAT OFFENDERS MAY BE ASKED TO LEAVE. RULES AND THE BORING STUFF!! Basically these are in place so we have a fun and friendly meet and leave the carpark clean and tidy like we were never there. Take your rubbish away with you or put it in a bin, (Use the public bins downstairs not the private ones belonging to the business up top Smokers please don't dispose of your butts on the ground! Please limit the ALCOHOL consumption. Its a public place and the Police/security regularly stop in and we don't want want anyone getting in trouble, We also don't want people leaving empties around. You are welcome to invite a few mates, but please note you are 100% responsible for their behaviour If you belong to other clubs and feel they might be keen to come check out our meet then that's cool but please see BDA780, Threeonthetree or 73crownwagon for permission before inviting them. NO Skids or Reckless/Dangerous driving Please leave a space near the fenced off area clear for the cleaners and don't block them in if they are there. Park in a proper carpark! If its full then just use a bit of common sense and try not to park to many people in. Newschool cars please park to one side and be prepared to move if we get short on space. If its raining and we have to park downstairs then new cars park upstairs or out of the way. The covered carpark is very small and needs to be OS only, If you have any suggestions or input for the meets then PM BDA780 , Threeonthetree or 73crownwagon Thanks!!

  12. Laced the new rims up, first ones I've done from scratch, just went methodically and it seemed to go ok once I worked out the pattern (seemed easiest to install all trailing spokes both sides then feed in leading spokes one at a time). I made some adapters for my motorbike stand and used a dial gauge, which made it real easy to true. The bog-roll stands and lump of wood with a hole in it are waiting a patent to be granted... Great practice for the motorbike wheels I have waiting to be done, I've always thought this was some dark art that only bearded pipe-smoking blokes in dim workshops could master, so a few projects have stalled until I had a crack. When I get some rim tape and have assembled the SA hub I'll fit these rims to the bike, and start looking at my antique shifter...

  16. Installed some SW20 MR2 Seats over the New Year, Definitely a good easy seat upgrade from Pick a part, few stains to clean but happy with them so far. Also took the car to Gisborne for the New Year, friend of mine took a couple of pics while I was down.

  18. Was really hoping the tank would fit onto the existing mounts - or the front ones at least. Definitely pushing my luck. Doesn't line up with anything & is significantly longer than the original tank. Nothing too major though, will need to move the front mounts back about 60mm and everything else will work out from there. Rough mock up of how the tank will look. Not really sitting straight, but gives a good idea. Really like the shape of this tank on the small frame.

  21. On new years day I picked up this donor and proceeded to spend the following few days practicing my drifting in the rain: A manual 535i with LSD. Before anyone gets upset, the car is far from as good as it looks in the photos. It has quite a few rough edges, paint is flaking everywhere and is generally not that great cosmetically. But mechanically it runs and drives so nice and has done around 170,000 kms. It is my favorite car to drive of all the cars I have at the moment, but let's be honest, the running gear will be far cooler in my e28. So that's the plan. I've also made some small changes to the e28 including e36 illuminated window switches and a gear knob emblem that I made by grinding down and polishing an old steering wheel badge.

  23. My wife and kids are still on holiday so I have a few days to myself, and even though it was REAL tempting to have a beer and porn day, I hit the shed to do a bit on the Zeta. Just stripping some undercarriage parts so I can paint them, and kid myself I am making progress. To be honest I had been putting this work off as it looked a bit hard... It was - a combination of grime, rust, and thick iron curtain paint made it bloody labour intensive to get back to metal. I used a combination of paint stripper, wire brushes and my asthmatic blasting cabinet (really need a bigger compressor). All methods were equally effective (i.e. not very) but I got there in the end, bought a new bag of grit which seemed to make a slight difference, the old stuff was probably pretty rounded off... Pretty pleased with the shiny steel, a little bit of panel beating and I should be able to chuck some paint around in the next day or so. have to make new bushes for front fork and repair a few bits and pieces, but nice to make some progress, no matter how feeble...

  28. Finally organised shipping at a reasonable price. Turned up today (over night delivery!!!) Was pretty stoked. Theres definitely a bit of damage from when we tried to bring it back on the trailer but oh well, shit happens. Also the shape isn't as nice as Sparkles, I was using that as a guide to go off of. The top of the tray doesn't flow in as nicely and the tailgate says Nissan which is a bummer. i am planning on getting another tailgate and either doing some sheetmetal magic and putting Datsun on there or shave it and get a decal made. Will see. My thoughts are its a cross between the 720 and 620. For now the plan is to remove the damage at the bottom, shape it/remove some small imperfections and then paint it. while the painting is going on i will do the drivers door properly and the driver front guard is ready for colour. Hopefully have the whole ute painted soonish. Also... quite obviously.. needs LOW. Look below and share opinions here Note tray is just sitting there

  33. I spent the next few years learning all I could about Hakosuka's, finding as many dealers in Japan as I could using Google Translate, trying to work out the strange pricing that I found but more importantly saving up the pennies I would need. In about 2010 I felt I was ready to get one bought. My budget was up to 2,500,000 Yen at a push and there seemed to be cars available at that price. I then started a two pronged assault. In the UK I emailed and phoned all and any Importers I could find. The responses I got were varied but mostly gave me no confidence in their ability to actually find me a decent car. Saying things like " No problem" and "yeah, we can get one of them" was not going to make me part with my cash. One guy said "Why do you want one of them ? I can get you a nice R33 for that price and it will be faster" Thanks for that... All the ads on their sites had pics with the heading "Cars like this available in Japan". I knew that already. I've had old cars all my driving life, Rust, fatigue and wear are things you have to be aware of, most of the people I spoke to didn't have a clue. Started feeling a bit pissed off. Still, there's always Japan ! I had got quite a collection of Japanese dealer websites so I emailed them all in English and Google-Japanese asking if they would be happy to deal with me and if they had more pics of cars on their sites. Vintage, Takeeys, Bikoworks, etc all responded with complete silence. Happy days. At this point I nearly gave up and bought a mid 60's Plymouth Big-Block. JNC was about to come to my rescue...

  34. Sick of my good engine getting covered in so much crap. Filled the holes between chassis and body with some rubber and ali where the rubber would melt, by drop pipe etc. Along with the under tray, should stop most of the crap going on front half of engine at least. Made a heat shield. Goes here It heat soaked pretty bad when driving around slow/parked up, when 4wding/waiting for geezers having a chat and 12 lunch breaks. I had thought about mounting the radiator under the tray. but feeding it air and not mud was too much drama. plus half the problem is heat from manifold and turbo. heat wrap would turn into a big mess. so rather elaborate heat shield it is. seems to work pretty sweet so far. These things are pretty squishy at 4psi. have something on the way to sort that.

  40. Hey guys !! Seems to have been couple months since updated. Had a break down where my alternator / water pump belt snapped it had stretched lucky mrs parents werent far away n got the old man to pick up a belt from super cheap (csnt believe they had it in stock) n dropped it out to me which i replaced on the side of the road n carried on. Since then i had noticed a bearing noise which turned out to be alternator most likely the cause for the belt snap . Had my car taken into carb specalists to get the carbs looked at ... Ending up getting em rebuilt which took 3 weeks due to wrong parts . nothing available in nz etc etc etc.. After getting those rebuilt balanced n tuned car runs alot smoother Went on n replaced dizzy cap rotor and points next will be coil Got some ramflo off my mate which i cleaned up came up ok That aside ive jus been enjoying cruising around was def a long time coming !!! Heres some more pics

  46. The tube sticking out of the dashboard is a light, like a map light but can be turned to light up the instrument and switch on the dashboard. Supposed to look like this. Mine is made from a small piece of copper, a nitrous oxide canister of the kind that used to be found on every roadside, a disused trim clip spring and a piece of wire that was one of the tie wire / safety wire bits on one of my connecting rods. Waste nothing.

  47. Hey guys 2 weeks since I've updated this haha haven't been doing nothing . Been re assembling everything . Managed to sus out the loom so can turn over using key now . Picked up a nardi steering wheel off another os member . The muppet I got the bosskit of todsy which I was told "it'll def fit" doesn't . The horn bits don't line up will need another . Just put it on to check it out.. I'll be taking it to get polished to remove some light scratches in the chrome at some stage but ok foe now I no my dash is cracked n fucked .. I really wanna get it upholstered but some of the bottom of the dash has cracked so I won't be doing it until I get the missing bits I need and also a new lower dash section but that can wait. It's annoying me how it's cracked .. ohwell time will get me a better condition one . I'm after a w50 shifter if anyone has one lying around since mine is bent to fuck !! New toyo t1rs 225/40/r14 to replace the super stretched 185/50/r14s currently on the rears .. means I got 2 spares for the front now choooice Will get them taken off bead n re assemble when I can . Have borrowed a guard roller but need tyres on before I make a start on it. Even tho the clock is showing 420 n I'd love to keep it that way I will be removing that and replace with a 4" smiths rev tacho at some stage . Not a priority tho Used plastidip satin black for behind grill makes easy removal if ever needed . Also gave my headlight surrounds and bonnet hinges a lick of satin black to complete the look Panel beater coming to look tomorrow .. if anyone knows any panel beaters keen on some work PM me thanks. And finally I have a lot of spares . I will be keeping all panels and glass . I have pretty much full 2nd set of interior plastic . Rt100 dash . Couple cracks tho .. n shit loads of other rt100/104 stuff if you need anything pm me i may have it. Only parting with OS members as I no the troubles it can be sourcing it all. Made up a new radiator overflow out of 6 mm copper . I wouldn't mind making all my washer lines out of 6 mm copper aswell it would look pretty cool in my opinion . Need 2 grab some new 40 mm hose clamps for radiator hoses and a new battery for her n I can do some tests make sure my lights etc are working let car warm up to temp might even go for a drive up the road Thanks for looking
