  1. Tyres are now mounted (thanks to everyones favourite Christchurch Mag and turbo rep) and they will do for now. Took alot more cutting to make it fit.......

  2. The chassis is now fully welded. It is so much stronger now, hardly twists at all. This is the design I've come up with so far. I was thinking of using 1.25 inch round tubing and getting it all cut out on the tube laser we have at work. It will be double layer like the last image, so there's room for the exhaust etc to go through. In-between will be hoops for the drive shaft as well. Does it sound like a good idea?

  3. FUCK YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! got up early and went up to peters shop this morning to fold up some new drip rails. this went very well indeed and by about 10am i had two drip rails and two new roofy side bits. peter then instructed me on how to fit it all up without fucking it up so i went on my merry way. i followed what he told me and now one side of the roof is fixed and back to factory. its rust free, has heaps of primer in between the layers and its fairly straight. all these things make me very happy indeed. new drip rail. new drip rail, roof side thing and the trim that goes onto it. 2015-10-31_03-04-54 by sheepers, on Flickr checking the fit with the A pillar trim. 2015-10-31_03-04-14 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-10-31_03-04-06 by sheepers, on Flickr then plug weld it on. 2015-10-31_03-04-22 by sheepers, on Flickr and this is the inner all welded in and primed ready for the outer to go over it. 2015-10-31_03-03-41 by sheepers, on Flickr next fit the outer 2015-10-31_03-03-59 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-10-31_03-03-50 by sheepers, on Flickr tack in place and fuck around for ages getting it sitting right then weld. 2015-10-31_03-03-25 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-10-31_03-03-17 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-10-31_03-02-59 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-10-31_03-07-52 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-10-31_03-32-22 by sheepers, on Flickr 2015-10-31_03-32-30 by sheepers, on Flickr so i still have to finish the front and rear parts but thats minor. I'm super stoked that the roof now has drip rails and its all factory and right. you know when you worry about how your going to fix something for ages and it becomes bigger in your head than the actual? well anywho i had stressed about the roof for ages but its all coming together nicely. ill do the other side tomorrow an then I've just got a couple of patches in the corner and the sun roof and were done!!!!!!!! fuck and yes.

  4. Electric fan is all done. After trimming down the Volvo shroud I just had to make a couple brackets then wire it up. Initial tests showed I wasn't going to be able to use the dual speed unit as I originally intended, the ranges of the switches I had didn't match the Cedric cooling system which was always likely. The first switch opened low and high at 80 and 88 respectively and the second switch opened at 91 and 99. The second switch wasn't usable, got too hot on the gauge for my liking, even on the low side. First switch was better but the low side triggered at 80 whereas the thermostat opens at 82 so the fan was constantly switching on and off. The high switch (88c) was spot on and would keep the gauge steady in the centre so I ended up wiring both through that and added a switch to select between the high speed and low speed fan, for summer and winter I guess haha. Testing the switches Switch is on the left on top of the control unit Pretty happy with it now. I still have 1 80-88 switch and 2 91-99 switches if anyone wants them, I also have a spare M14x1.5 tap for modding the switch housing. I have this to make up one evening now

  5. Thought I'd make this into a topic as there will be cars and parts that many of us are interested in. The auction starts at 10am. Viewing opens that morning at 8:30am or the day before. I'll be heading down on Saturday morning to start viewing at 8:30am. I will be taking a ute and a tandem axle car trailer. I have space for up to four more people. I will be bidding on behalf of myself and Zebradude. If anybody else wants something but cannot attend, please PM me. I may be able to do some bidding while you are on the hone to me etc. Here's a link to the auction. Take a look through the pictures. Mainly English and European stuff but some Japanese cars too. http://www.abauctions.co.nz/auctions/2015/11/7/car-collectors-clearout/

  7. Spare module, coil, and wiring loom finished. Received word back from my regular parts guy that after two years of being on backorder Tridon finally has more TFS143 thermo fan switches in stock, so bought a pair of them for the coupe. One goes in the top of the radiator and controls the secondary A/C fan and low coolant warning system, and the other sits at the bottom of the radiator for the main cooling fan. Both of the switches in the coupe failed over time, so the fans stopped turning on automatically - I had to wire them to stay running permanently. Also in the photo is a Nissan genuine water thermo switch for the ECU, thanks Scott (brdflu) for sorting this out thru your work! Quite satisfying to finally have these parts after a few years of making do with workarounds. Once these are fitted and the alternator has been overhauled, the next thing on the list is to track down some replacement ASCD (cruise control) sensors to get that up and running again; typically, it was working up until "four years ago"... 8. Do not ever twist n tape. If you do I will know, and I will hunt you down and kick you in the balls. If you need somewhere to mount the thing you can get bolt up generic headunit mounting blocks that stick up under the dash, or just make your own, or mount in the glove box, or hack up your dash and put it there. Whatevs.

  9. How about the footy aye, Few more coats of primer on things in between coats I tidied up the gearbox on the outside, New guibo, and new gaskets. looked ok to me on the inside. but Im unsure if the speedo drive works, 124/125 type wont work the drive gear is reversed and a wee bit larger on the 2300. X1/9/lada clutch slave needed some modification to fit but it does, + new clutch line. I had to cut off the clutch return spring tab as well so gonna need to make a bracket or something for that on the outside Also spacers - i think it must mount on the opposite side of the engine on the cars lits listed for. I also seem to have mislaid the clutch ajdustment nut And finish up with the first coat of proper paint - its a very light cream/grey that matches the original engine bay/interior sheetmetal colour. TBH looks a bit crap and glossy over my poor prep (urhg i hate sanding, especially around all the fiddly tabs and bolts in an engine bay) but the ugliest lupiest runnyest bits will be hidden by stuff still to go back in to those same bolts and tabs, and it wont be bright, clean and shiney in there for very long!

  14. D-day/week, second week of January and the mission was on had a week to fit engine/box, get the car rolling, panels on and packed up with parts to roll into a 40ft container with the Mrs' ke20 for their journery to Auckland with all our other crap. Borrowed some ae85 struts off a mate as the coil overs still aren't finished and fitted them up with ke35 top hats to get the car rolling. Quickly primered the insides of the doors/boot/bonnet to fit up and painted up the block with engine paint as well as the rear half of the box. Reassembled gearbox and fitted some ta22 engine mounts to the motor (the shorter ones) that I had picked up a while back. Also finished brake/fuel lines under the car etc and fitted tidied up genuine toyota brake master and clutch master/slave. Engine went in like a dream, the ta22 mounts put the engine nice and low in the factory position on the te3# x member and the factory te3# gearbox x member lined up perfectly with the rear pair of the 2 lots of x member holes in the body, forward position shifter also came straight through the factory hole in the floor. Just had to dig some factory filler stuff out of them and it bolted straight inreally happy everything fitted together with factory sourced parts and I didn't have to hack anything up, I also have three T series drive shafts of different lengths, I haven't tried yet but hopefully one goes straight in and I don't have to worry about modifying one. Engine cleared the added rack and pinion perfectly too which was awesome because I really didn't have the time for big backwards steps. The only real set-back was I had originally fitted a larger 3t corona front sway bar which fitted together on the subframe sweet but fouled on the castor arms when I slammed the car back down so it was swapped out for a factory ke35 one for now, motor still clearances it fine but it looks a little funny as its tiny and offset for the lean over K motor. I'm hoping to find something to replace it at some stage but I'm not sure yet, either find and try an ta22/ra28 one and see if it fits or hunt out a te3# one from the states. Anyway most importantly plenty of room either side for dellorto's and high rise headers With that the car was ready to be packed with parts and loaded up, both cars made it safely to Auckland without any damage and it's good to have them up here! Still mucking around with my track car but that'll be out of the way soon so getting back into this in a big way. Aiming to finish the car this year, really have to stay motivated and get it done!

  15. I spotted this van about 10-15 years ago, driving down the motorway, and thought "ooohh, I am going to own that one day!" I tracked down the owner, and gave him a visit about 3-4 years ago, and have been in touch since. I told him if he ever wants to sell it, to let me know. Anyway, he spent the last 2-3 years getting it panelled and painted, and fitting lots of new parts on. He brought it over about 3-4 months ago to show me it, and said he would probably sell it next year. Anyway, he texted me last weekend saying he was ready to sell it, and to come over if I was interested. After another test drive, and some negotiation, a deal was agreed on. I have just paid a deposit to hold, and will probably pay for it end of November and collect it. Pretty stoked about it, unlike my other vans this one is not a project, I can use it straight away:) It has a 3.8 Holden/Buick V6 with 4 stage auto fitted. It is quite a harsh noisy engine, but my god does it go! It would give my Mk1 V8 a good run for its money I think. And being injected should be better on fuel too. Otherwise, it is fairly standard, not really any other mods done. discussion: //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/50625-browndogs-supervan-2-yet-another-one/

  17. Another busy day. Got a new rain drip rail for the left rear window, very happy with how it turned out. Was going to cost 180 to get one made by APC in Aussie and get it shipped over. This one was folded by me at a mates metal shop, then trimmed and bent to shape. I've finished the rust repairs on both doors and hung them and got them as square as i can given the play in the hinges (any sources in NZ for new ones?) Fitted guards and started to move them around to get them lined up, and then fitted the front valance and started to square it up and make it look pretty. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/43814-darryls-3rd-1200-coupe-discuss/

  18. After about four trips to Autolign the sway bar bushes are sorted. Many thanks to Tim who's the big man there, super helpful! Anywho have done a few bits: -Replaced a headlight -Cleaned and regapped the plugs -Valve clearances -Made up a new battery bracket -New shocks Valve clearances made a good difference, sounds much less like a tractor! Still need to mess around with the carb though, idles very low on cold starts. Have ordered some 14x6.5s in the same style for the front from YHJ auctions so eagerly awaiting those. Turns out there are two gearbox cross members for these Coronas, one to suit auto/W50 and one to suit W40. Bit of pain since I'm putting a W40 in so have to locate a new cross member. Also need a pedal box and a speedo cable so on the hunt for those now. Have been driving it around quite a bit, seems to turn a few heads despite being pretty rough with the primer patches. Just needs to be manual and I'll be stoked with it!

  23. Oh I joined the electronic speedo club a while back. Mine will be the same toyota unit as yours as I nicked it froma celica, using the toyota speedo. Mine reads exactly 10% too fast which I have to take into account when checking fuel usage. Jaycar used to sell a little box of electrickery that you could adjust the pip signal from the sender to the head. So I have everything I need.. just might order a MPGuino kit to build !

She's been wof'd for about a month now, sorry about the lack of updates but i'm crap with that, the missus takes all the pictures anyway. finished it the wed night, wof thurs, straight through, up to kaikoura for the hop on friday. close! since then i've serviced it thoroughly and have been fitting finishing touches took it to marlbrough last weekend for labour weekend and she flew. 100k all the way, only minor issue was she split a rad hose and was weeping coolant because i disturbed it to flush the rad i reckon.but it was close to the end and i just cut it and reattached to get me home with a slight kink. happy days. . Its still not done but its close. can't get the chrome trim on the new windscreen seal so i think i'll have to glue it on. the painter has gone radio silent on the visor and i got a heart stopping quote for some new minilite wheels, so i'm gonna look elsewhere for now. few pics. feedback appreciated on the finish, colour scheme etc, good or bad. its been dividing opinions for 3 weeks now. love it or hate it lol. 27. wow... been a while! Used the car as my daily for 6 months earlier in the year and went fine. Now it's time to actually EFI it though... before drag day (i hope). So i figured, the best way to do that is the hardest way, and thats by designing my own ECU... All i have to design is the hardware, i'll be using FreeEMS to actually run it all, but their current hardware leaves a lot to be desired in my eyes. so let me introduce MicroEMS! a play on words between MicroSquirt and FreeEMS because i made it use the same connector and pinout as the microsquirt, so that if FreeEMS software or my hardware all turns to custard, i can just buy a microsquirt and plug it in a 3D render from the board design program; So i have actually just ordered 10 boards, and am trying to get my digikey account un-frozen so i can order the components for it as well and start building it in a week and a bits time I've been wanting to design an ECU for a LONG time and never really pushed through, but over the last few weeks i've put a lot of hours into designing something and going to finally give it a go. I shall keep you all updated

  34. Not long after I got the ignition module upgrade running I received some info about an off-the-shelf kit being sold by DR30.jp - had a look in case it was easier to just order one, but it turned out slightly too pricey for my tastes. Went to Zebra over the long weekend and bought a couple more bits to wire up a second module and coil to keep as a spare. Hmmm... does this remind you of anything? Looks nearly identical to the KRS upgrade kit, except not quite as well presented and I still have a couple of plugs left to wire up. Nice to know I was on the right track all along. With a brand new battery I've managed to get the coupe started and running (it holds charge at 11.98-12.00V without going any lower) so it should be safe to drive around the neighbourhood for a couple of test runs after work all going well. 36. Sup guys. Sold my ute today with the intention of buying a comfy, reliable daily driver, and ended up with this. An 82 ex Lancer All round not a bad car. Has a 1200 in it with a 5 speed behind it. It does have a couple small rust spots and the interiors a bit shabby, but the body works fairly mint. Was for sale on modgies which I'm not a fan of, so I bought it without the wheels, and put the hoshinos off my silvia on it for the time being. Plans for it so far are -Compress the lowering springs for more lows -get tires fitted to my devil japan's to replace the hoshinos -tidy up interior -chrome fender mirrors Would also like to put a bigger engine in it. Although I'm in no rush to do this. Thinking just something like a 1600 or sohc 2l? That's it for now. I'm sure I will come up with more as I go! Soz for all the words. Here's a couple pics The devil japan's

  38. So I had a few mates come over and look at the ute. The further we dug the worse it got.. Multiple layers of bog all cracked through and rusting under. Such a bastard. Most people were like MAN UP....until they saw it in person and were like One of those guys suggested I pop to his uncle's place for a look at his hz oneton. I got all dreamy as I realised this tonner had a FAR more honest body and a deal was done. (I didn't get the wheels) From now on I'll refer to both vehicles by their respective colours. Yellow was stripped completely bare and its body lifted out of the shed (I didn't consider getting it out when I pulled it to bits) then its chassis.

  41. Was due to get my wheels widened but that will have to wait a couple weeks as I have these coming now. I picked up a 5spd box after Nats and almost have all the bits I need to swap it in so that'll be happening soon too Yay

  42. Haven't done much, got a wof, still waiting for some blocks Have bought a few things off Yahoo auctions via Ewan @ Hayatonka Picked up some stock radio and cassette units I think I have sussed all the wiring out but there is a spare DIN plug on the back of the radio, anyone got any ideas what it's for? Also got some fender mirrors, the stock 330 items seem to go for about $500 but I found some similar Nissan ones for a better price, they came with the leccy adjustment knobs too
