  1. So the cars been coming along good, all the interior is back in and it passed a wof for the first time in a year and a half. I got all the lights fixed and working before it went in so it only failed for a front wheel bearing and the horn wasn't working. Just had to plug the horn in and grease up the wheel bearing. Easiest wof it's had and it's awesome being able to drive it fully legit. This was the light that caused the most problems I painted all the interior parts with this texture paint before after Carpet going in All the seats, original condition All of the windows are in now as well. They needed quite a bit of adjusting since its pillar less. There really good now as they close up nice and there's hardly no wind noise. Really happy with how it came up. Big thanks to our good mate Ben from Reel Flooring for installing the carpet and my dad for all the work he has put into it. Now that its back on the road i'll have to take some good pictures for the next update.

  2. So this thing is sold, I put it on the truck on friday morning. New owner is in CHCH, so you locals down there might see it at the track or on the road. A single tear ran down my cheek...

  3. Maaaaan have I waffled on about this piece.. I fixed the hard starting issue, I stripped and cleaned out the carb and removed the two blocked up plastic filter things jammed in the fuel pipes. Starts first pop now always. Electrical: still over charging (i think), but all lights work ect and it rides sweet so that will do for now. will do 45kmh on the flat! Been riding it to and from work. Goes good and carrier on the back works good at carrying my tool bag, Also been doing your nomal scooter things like: Going to coffee shops Going on 'gang' rides with mates. ( rode about 60km on this ride round trip) and running out of gas and pushing it to the gas station... Oh... also I got this..... a Honda NF'50' Its got something wrong/broken related to the kick start Im told... I dunno, I couldn't bear to see it end up scrapped and it was too good to pass up on, but mostly hopefully it will stop me modifying my FA50 while Im trying to daily it....

  4. Bit of sound deadening removal (not the preferred dry ice method, but the Bosch choppy tool did an ok job..) and some sanding... And result of the turbo coolant lines:

  8. As my build thread was chocka with dead links I thought a clean-up was kinda necessary - got rid of 3 pages of waffle and reinstated some dead links. I now present to you the edited up highlights in chronological order. Discussion Thread - K-Trips 1982 VH Holden Commodore Wagon

  10. plus you have a mismatch of disc/caliper thickness- 19mm disc vs a caliper designed for a 30mm thick disc may end up with a problem with pads falling out or jamming when they wear

  11. no nothing special required, just someone who can drive a mig competently

  12. Yea by trade I mean he puts it through his staff account, which makes shit mean cheaps. Hence the cash so there is no eftpos record of it, I have often thought he probably gets a epic discount and skims some of the cash off the top haha.

  13. Yup do that, I use protec and it is the perfect cheaper brand (but still good shit) for home DIY painting. Make that guy your friend so you can score some free mixing cups/filters/etc, mine gives me a trade price if I pay cash (think he chucks it through his own account). Hey Steeb write a FAQ for me as I have typed that out 5 times.

  20. last time i was in one of these it was pre- license days in a friend's one driving through flax to get on a school field for skids. terrible skids. tales of interest.. he treated it a bit rough, and had what looked like RWD offset minilites on it. then a wheel broke off while he was driving on the road. not sure what exact part failed. they can do jumps at the skatepark, refer to previous comment the dash 'bag' looked a lot like an almost-finished roll of wallpaper the mirrors have convoluted mountings, they look flexible but are the opposite. i had to pay for the one i broke off while trying to adjust the mirror, goddam he may still have a flap-top one of these in the shed in greytown but i havent seen this guy in years.

  22. The floor above the cab has been built but is yet to be fitted, it will hinge along the rear edge and will be lifted using a light weight block and tackle arrangement that will clip on to a flush ring set into the floor and a "screw in" eye bolt in the ceiling. If it all works properly the cab will have sufficient clearance to tilt in the usual manner. The mock up worked so I am confident.......i think!.

  24. So its kind of obvious this is getting a 4 link. While I wasn't planing on a 4 link. One of the guys i go 3wding with, pointed out the diff was about too fly out of my truck. Then an even more scientific conclusion, while me and the bro were leaning on the back of the truck, parked up in the driveway. "hey that diff does move around a bit" when given a gentle nudge. The leaf spring mods above made it ride better, but springs were wrapping up like crazy. kinda expected it to do this but not quite so bad. Some guys add a link from top of diff back to the hanger bearing x-member to solve the problem. looked into it, but was more work than a simple link and more weight.. yeah nar 4 link time front bottom mounts tacked in place, hopefully can get it setup correct using the center or top hole. if so will chop the bottom one off as hangs down a bit All lining up pretty sweet so far. after tacking the mounts to chassis and diff. made up the bottom links, left link was only adjusted 1mm shorter than right, while still in the "jig" have sliced the jig off now. as diff needs to come up 140mm to ride height. so can work out the link angles properly. never thought i would build a triangulated setup, but is meant to be best compromise on 4wd stuff.

  26. Screw it. New goal: I'm flagging most of the modifications. This includes putting back all the panels etc. I cut out. I've just received a big cardboard box of new radiator support, crossmember, battery tray etc. panels from the UK. I'll return everything body wise as close to factory as I can. From this point on, only mods will be bolt on, period(isn) and easily reversible. Because of this, I can't fit the supercharger into the engine bay. So I won't do this anymore. I'll still fit the 2.2 pinto and 5-speed box, LSD axle, capri struts, HD + rear tramp bars (the only weld on mods I'll do), and some minor brake upgrades. I will keep the fishnets and some of the RS bits I picked up along the way such as the RS dashboard, clock cubby etc. I will keep the front rubber spoiler - as this seems to have been fitted originally to this one, and the rear spoiler. I may fit a low boost turbo and the EFI if I can make a turbo manifold that will clear the brake booster. I'll flag the 13x7 hot-wires that it came on and put it back on original steel sport wheels and skinny tires. The original Sport: gearbox, rear axle, engine, radiator, seats, struts, dash etc. Will be kept and cleaned up. I may also at some point throw my hands in the air during this and return it to original 1.6 powered kent goodness (with twin sidedafts). I don't know if I can be assed with LVV certification. Next, I need to take the wings off to sort a little rot in the front edges. Now a far less interesting project - but I want to preserve the period character of the car.

  29. The poor Brougham has been languishing at the back of the shed for some time now. Last night I threw a battery in her (actually placed it in very gently and lovingly) and it fired up after about ten minutes Zebra Dude was there too and we used it to tow another vehicle out. It drove well and left two black marks on the concrete. The old Banjo LSD still works. So now I have finally decided to get onto this project. It's my favourite car by far, followed by the Panelvan/Triumph Half PI. The HQ Holden has been a good old shitter to drive around in but I am ging to sell it and put the money towards the Brougham. Driving it last night made me realise just how much I love this car and parking it at the back of the shed is no way to show that. Felt a bit ashamed. So now the car is at the front of the shed and once I've serviced the transmission and replaced the leaking rocker cover gaskets it will be ready to drive to the panelbeaters for roof repairs.

  30. It does considering I bent all that by hand. I made some changes a couple of days ago, I can now bypass the filter so you are not heating the water in there/losing heat from the stainless. Also I will buy a solar panel so it can just chug away with the filter when not in use. Double also I have bought a peltier device http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermoelectric_effect and will use the temperature difference from the water to the fire to power the pump when the fire is lit.

  37. Just been to Nats - 1900Km, 270 litres of gas and 2.5 litres of oil after leaving home I'm back and the beast performed like an absolute world class champ. A picture from Markku - Cheers Absolutely wasted the Wagoneers plaque on a speed hump in Remuera and it's now pretty bent up but still holding together so on it shall stay. (felt like the whole weight of the rear slammed down on it HARD as it was momentarily standing vertical on the top of the speedbump)

  38. Took this for its first test run today. other than like driving a shopping trolley over boulders motivated by a kid with a.d.d (throttle bit touchy and suspension way to hard) and fuel pump relay having a mare. went pretty good we tried to find some mud, but just found bottomless swamps. lost the safari a couple of times
