cletus Posted January 27 Posted January 27 The worst part about all this is when you posted things about datsuns etc , I thought this tricky fellow has got a gtr! But then I didn't write it in the internet before you told us! Now I just look like an idiot don't I! Well I would if I mentioned it, if I don't say anything then nobody will know. Good Anyway, you should put a 2jz in it 7 2 Quote

Nominal Posted January 27 Posted January 27 Well I think my troll was the closest guess actually. Quote

I thought it looked familiar. Has it still got the rb30? I did some lush work on the exhaust to make it fit the taller engine Quote
sheepers Posted January 27 Author Posted January 27 Na, the 30 is going into his sons car, he's built an RB26 for this car that comes with the purchase. 4 1 Quote
yoeddynz Posted January 30 Posted January 30 This will be fun to follow. I have had a couple of these through my workshop, plus some of the lesser models, where I've done pre-vin welding work. They do love to rust it seems. Some of the chassis rail/sill/floor damage from forklifts is crazy given the value of them. Fella reckoned the prices sailed when they became eligible to be imported into the US as classics? Its funny working on them - just very typical nissan construction of the time. 1 Quote

Had to cut a piece of the floor out to get at the inner sil without taking the outer off Quote
yoeddynz Posted January 30 Posted January 30 That does ring a bell actually. I do remember how the rust on several just tracks along the inner sill above the floor and quite a lot has to be removed to get to the inner bits. Here's some pics from two different gtrs. The rust was just the tip of iceberg. @sidewaysickness does your sister still have her gtr? 2 Quote
sidewaysickness Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Nope, We sold it about 2 months ago with a blown engine for $35k. Sold to a young fella that got cartoon dreamy eyes when I handed him the GTR key so she's gone to a good home 9 Quote
Popular Post cletus Posted January 30 Popular Post Posted January 30 How good would it be to adapt a barra/turbo ls to the factory driveline and make a billion hp reliably , you could use the tears of upset gtr purists as coolant 6 10 1 Quote

Rhyscar Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Bloody awesome. Excited to see how you resurrect this one. I remember seeing this in NZPC drags coverage back in the day 2 Quote
sheepers Posted January 31 Author Posted January 31 Yea it's been on TV before. I think this car was the first road car in nz to make over a thousand hp but I could be wrong Quote

Like the sil isn't strong enough to lift off the all seem to be crumpled up too. I added extra suport to make the jacking point usable on his 1 Quote
yoeddynz Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Very thin steel too eh! With what seems to be a token this amount of grey primer I think its from leaking windscreens and the water runs along under that seam. I have had an Rx7 Fd in and that had faired not much better either in the same place. 1 Quote
Popular Post Roman Posted January 31 Popular Post Posted January 31 Well, need to keep in mind that they're not spring chickens anymore! An R32 GTR is now as old as a Mk 2 escort was, when this site first started. Any car of this vintage can be really nice if you're lucky, but is likely in need of some repairs and maintenance. It's funny though how your brain can still think that cars like this are new-ish though. Gone are the days of "Is my car oldschool if it has plastic bumpers" Now we're on to "Is my car oldschool if it has Advanced Total Traction Engineering System with Electronic Torque Split - But only the early version?" 10 3 7 Quote
